Hannah Wentworth McMurtry had gotten married to Mr. McMurtry out of need to free her two other sisters from the orphanage. She never thought her husband would die on the trial or that she would lose track of her sisters. She will find help from Flint Creed who saves her from death. She will agree to marry the man to protect her baby.
Flint Creed watched the woman he loved leave him and become his younger brothers fiance. She did not know that he loved her and Flint would keep it secret. Soon his mind will be on a woman he finds who is almost at deaths door. He will help save her and get her to marry him but life with this woman would not be easy especially when he loved another.
Wyoming Bride is the second book to the series Mail-Order Bride from Joan Johnston. She is a brand knew author to me and from the looks of it she stays in the topic of the Wild West for a couple of her series. I am not always the biggest fan of the Wild West which is because I read a very long series and there was the happy ending in the beginning only to be met with more betrayal and heartache. The people never got a break. I like happy endings so that series kind of tainted Wild West books for me. So I am happy to say that this book had me liking it again.
Now this wasn’t a book that I absolutely loved right away, it was one that I grew to like. The characters were hard and flawed but sweet at times. Johnston switches between the brothers and their wives for whose story was being told. I was at times annoyed with the characters because they weren’t being truthful and you know the truth will always come out, especially for Flint who thinks he loves his brothers wife. Well Flint’s wife is not too happy with that thought but she comes out of it alive and so does he.
It was interesting also to read about life back then. Thinking about how childbirth really could lead to death for the mother and the child. It can still today obviously but with hospitals we are much more equipped than back in those days.
Now the villain was clear as it was the rich man of those parts who was a not a very nice man to the people. He does get what was coming to him, Wild West justice.
I am looking forward to reading the third book that will be about Hetty which I have next to read. The first one I am on a waiting list so that could be some time before I get it. I suppose there will more than likely be a fourth book that will be with Josie unless she is in the third book which is unlikely as she is with a British lord. I am assuming that wouldn’t be out until much later this year or the next but I will definitely be checking it out.
Charlie Allington had been wronged and had come back home to scrap her life back together. She will find that her high school crush will be living next door and she wouldn’t be the shy girl anymore. Charlie just hopes that he wouldn’t think she is like the girl the news said she was like. Walker Pearce needed work now that his job was down the drain thanks to some moments of weakness. He will get a job but his thoughts will go straight to his friend who he is seeing in a completely new light.
So Tough to Tame is the third book in Jackson Hole series. Victoria Dahl is an author I like, she has good characters and it seems even more steamier scenes with this book which has scenes that will make you want to fan yourself as you read about them. I really liked the book with the secrets behind those closed doors with the main and side characters. There are some good small twists that come forward within the book as the secrets are revealed. At first I wasn’t sure I really liked Charlie or Walker. They had their faults that made them human but it was all about cheating that they had done not in the distant past. Charlie didn’t know but Walker was going in with his eyes wide open in his situation. You know they are not bad people but ones who just made bad choices. In the end justice is given for those who have done wrong and Charlie and Walker do have that happy ending that they deserve. I am on the look over for the novella where Eve will take center stage but until then I keep reading.
Sarah Allen had to leave LA and she had to do it fast. She packed up what she could and drove away with her daughter Holly. Sarah moved back to Wyoming to the only place she knew would be safe but trouble will be following her and she will have nowhere to turn until Jackson Raines offers to help them.
Jackson Raines saw Sarah and after getting over his hurt feelings from years ago he saw that she was running from her past. He wanted to help her and her daughter which meant staying close to them and protecting them from the men who were demanding information from Sarah.
Against the Wind is the first book to Kat Martin’s series Raines of Wind Canyon. I had already read one of the books just to see how the series sounded. It was a story that got me hooked. I wanted to start reading the rest of the series right away but I had a stack of books on my dresser that I needed to read first and I will say the first book was worth the wait. This book once again gives us suspense, romance, some action and a heartwarming story with rugged men. I instantly liked Jackson and Sarah as the story was being told. I liked that Sarah was a fighter and she was not the stuck up girl you thought her to be. Jackson is a thoughtful cowboy and just wants a chance with the girl he could never stopping thinking about. They have their moment and it gets sweet as they will be accompanied by Sarah’s daughter Holly.
There is a little twist with who killed Andrew and I figured out the murderer and the motive pretty quickly but it was still interesting to read and let the story unfold. Now the bad guys were the thugs that wanted the disk drive but personally the cop Mercer seemed like a villain as well.
The second book will be focusing in on Gabe. I liked that Martin focused in on three brothers and branched more from the people who are in the town of Wyoming. I am looking forward to finding out what will come next for Gabe Raines and Dev Raines.
Merry Kade was the girl next door, that is what everyone saw. Merry was more than that and she was going to prove that as she found a job that she was determined to do. She will be distracted by a cowboy who will have her heart beating faster but he is not being completely honest with her.
Shane Harcourt was in the middle of a lawsuit and wanted it done. Now he finds himself with more trouble with Merry Kade who wanted to change the ghost town that belonged to him and restore it. He will get close to her to find a way to stop it but feelings will soon get involved and the lies were building up.
I had read Strong Enough to Touch and loved it. It was a fantastic book and great beginning to Victoria Dahl’s series Jackson Hole. Too Hot to Handle was a great follow up to the series with passion and betrayal all wrapped up together.
I loved Merry’s character. She had many layers and was fascinating to find out the real person. She was stronger then the persona she gave off with those around her. She was still fragile and heartbroken but there was a certain toughness that she gained and confidence to face those who thought little of her like her cousin. Now Shane I wanted to like but lying to start a relationship was not the best way to start out with. Of course you liked him because he was sensual and gave something to Merry, her own confidence.
There was the normal fall that happens in novels and you knew it would be coming and it was heartbreaking as I imagined it would be. There is a happy ending that follows but not before some more heartbreaking scenes and surprises which follow.
Victoria Dahl introduces a new character named Walker who is another cowboy and will be featured in the next book, So Tough to Tame, from the series Jackson Hole.
Gail DeMarco was at her wits end with her business and it was all because of the big movie star, Simon O’Neal. In order to save her business and reputation she agreed to a marriage for show with Simon to rebuild his image along with her own. She just didn’t expect to find herself falling for him.
Simon O’Neal was in a bind as his image was in taters and it looked like his ex was going to get custody of his son. Simon wanted custody as he loved his son. He soon found that Gail his PR agent would be the only solution to his problem. He thought he was getting a marriage of convenience but it was much more.
When Lightning Strikes will have you curled up on your couch as you enjoy this heartwarming and heartbreaking story from Brenda Novak. When Lightning Strikes is the first book to Whisky Creek and shows promise. The characters were not ones who were in love, in fact they loathed each other as both of their reputations were going down the drain. I think I liked this book the best because of that. There was no romance to start out, only two characters who had to find a way to get along and to save their image.
Aside from the battle rounds that happened between Gail and Simon there is a romance that starts to build but it’s certainly not right away. I liked how much Novak makes you want to hate Simon’s ex, Belle. She is a horrible woman who you hoped gets what she deserves especially as she has some devious moves that end up ruining Simon’s reputation. There is a final betrayal at the end. In hindsight it makes perfect sense but I wasn’t sure until the end.
Novak sets up the story first in LA then a small town through most of the story. There are also plenty of characters mentioned in Whiskey Creek which gives this series plenty room to grow. Brenda Novak series Whiskey Creek will be one I will be coming back to.
Grace Barrett is down on her luck and is now in Wyoming, a complete change from LA. Grace will not take any crap or charity from people but her boundaries will be tested when she meets her neighbor Cole.
Cole Rawlins is healing from an injury only several months from ago. He will be staying at an apartment but when a new neighbor shows up Cole starts getting interested. Problems are in the making especially when Cole’s past and Grace’s past collide making old injuries hard to ignore.
Victoria Dahl is an author that can get your heart pounding with her characters and not just in that passionate way. You feel for the characters as she makes them real and with many depths making a well rounded character. Close Enough to Touch is one of her several novels she has written and its one that I couldn’t stop reading. You get to know Grace and Cole very well and know without a doubt these are two very damaged people. Both have boundaries that guard their emotions and wouldn’t let others in. Grace is more effective with it as she has learned many times to keep distant. Throughout the book I grasped it hoping that these two would have a chance to be together. I wanted them to find happiness with each other which is why when Cole’s old flame strolls into town I wanted to throw the book. Of course I kept reading. Dahl keeps true to her characters when she keeps them away from each other, well there is tons of passion when they are together but that’s not the future we all hope full for them. She does change the characters but in a subtle way as no one changes over night.
At the end we are left with a heartwarming ending that makes you smile as it leaves the characters in a good place. Now I checked out when she would have another book published and it looks like two characters from this book will have their own, Merry and Shane. Within this book they were more on the side so it will be interesting to read how they are to interact.
Trying a new series, Sons of Chance from Vicki Lewis Thompson will leave you wanting more after you finish the first book. Wanted! starts out steamy and ends the same way.
Dominique Jeffries is fed up with how life is going except for her career. But Dominique wants a vacation and to see if her old self is still around. And she finds out in Wyoming with a hot cowboy.
Nick Chance is a vet and also work horse for his brother and their ranch. Nick thinks its going to be just another day but when he gets proposition for a roll in the hay Nick jumps at the chance. Nick though doesn’t want it to end there he finds out. He wants more from Dominique but she is not exactly able to let herself get into another relationship.
Thompson starts out the story with a steamy scene from the two characters and doesn’t stop throughout the whole story. You’ll get wrapped up in the story as surprises reveal themselves which interrupt Nick’s life he thought he lived.
I was surprised how the events went and thought they were a little too perfectly wrapped up but this is a shorter novel. So having things wrapped up made sense.
Wanted! is a great steamy start to the series Sons of Chance. Can’t wait to read more on the brother and see where Thompson takes the series.
