Paige Walker had been the sick girl in her hometown. Paige wanted a fresh start in New York and she was making it but then her dreams will be crushed. She will rely on her friends for help to get her dream on her own. She will get help from her friends, Frankie and Eve as well from her brother Matt. The one that she will be hesitant to ask for help will be the man she loved since she was a teenager, Jake Romano.
Sleepless in Manhattan is the first book to the series From Manhattan with Love by Sarah Morgan. I had seen this book when this series started but I wanted to wait for several books to be finished. I thought this was a sweet story. Its a story of second chances and your heart will melt when Jake finally realizes what he was missing.
I liked Paige’s drive for organizing. I am completely the same with organizing the things in my life. I thought she was brave to try and not because she survived surgery but because starting a business is not an easy task. I liked that she was nervous, excited and scared as hell throughout the story. It felt real. The romance between Jake and Paige was not there but that is because Jake could not let himself be with Paige that way. Though things will change and Jake will finally let himself want Paige but it will still take a while for him to open his heart up all the way.
I am interested in reading about Frankie and Eve who are the best friends of Paige and who are part of the business.
At the end the book there was another story, Midnight at Tiffany’s. This was a prequel to the series From Manhattan with Love. This book is about Matilda who is an inspiring writer who is looking to get a chance to get her book published. She is working as a waitress to pay the bills which is when her life will get changed forever. She will meet Chase the man whose brother has a publishing house but she did not know the man was Chase.
This prequel which is a novella is a sweet and very short. You get everything you want all wrapped up in a bow. I of course want more detail but I was satisfied with how the story was written.
The second book is Sunset in Central Park which I will be reading next.
Calista Langley operated a business that helped single men and women find someone they could possible be with. Her business was going well with the help of her brother but she was plagued with someone who was watching her. When she receives her third gift she will get help from an author who will help find her stalker.
Trent Hastings was an accomplished author and he had come to Calista’s to make sure she was not a fraud as his sister was Calista’s client. Trent will find himself intrigued by Calista and he will find himself helping with her stalker issue.
‘Til Death Do Us Part is a novel by Amanda Quick. I really liked this novel. I will say that at times I thought the transitions were a little abrupt. I wanted more details with the characters. I also found the romance between Trent and Calista was not a big part of the novel like it is with some of her other novels. Though I will say that didn’t really bother me, it was more of an observation. What I really liked was that they had formed a partnership to help each other with the case, that brought me back to an earlier series Lavinia Lake/Tobias March.
Calista’s character was a business woman. I liked Calista because she had endured and was resourceful. She was level headed and did not believe in romance, not as she did as a young girl. I liked that her character stayed true till the very end. Although she did soften up a little. Trent’s character was interesting as he was a writer. I liked that he took on the style of his character when trying to solve the case.
With the side characters I wanted to know more about them. I really liked Trent’s sister and Calista’s brother. With Trent’s sister it looks like her story is finished but I wonder about Andrew. It would be interesting if he got his own story as he started his own detective agency.
Now in Quick’s style of mystery she certainly had me guessing about who the villain was which I liked though it was short lived as I guessed who the villain was pretty quickly. Though there was a twist that had me rethinking my guess.
I am looking forward to reading the next novel by Amanda Quick which comes out in May of next year.
Double the Pleasure is a collection of four stories by four different authors. My drive to read this book was because of Lori Foster’s novella Deuces Wild. This novella is part of the series Winston Brothers and Cousins. I loved this series especially the story that had Joe in it. I liked this novella. It was short but overall it was good. The story was about twin brothers and Hart had to leave but needed Dex to stay and pretend to be him. The problem happens when Dex’s meets and girl and she thinks that he is Hart, and Dex goes along with the lie. I felt that the girl forgave a little too easily but it had to be done quickly with the story being a novella. I liked the twin brothers. With reading Dex’s story I am intrigued with Hart and what was going on with the girl he had been with then left. It might be awhile before I find his story but I will be on the look out for it.
The other authors and their stories are The Lucy of the Irish by Deirdre Martin, which is about a carpenter who has the choice of going home to Ireland or sticking around in New York. With this one I wished that it was a book because then you would have gotten to really know the characters. You got to know them but it felt way to quick. The next book is Your Room or Mine? by Jacquie D’ Alessandro. This one is all about coworkers who judge each other to quickly but with a weekend to bond things will heat up. I liked the story. Once again I thought it was too short but it was enjoyable. The last book of the collection is Double the Danger by Penny McCall which is with an FBI agent and witness protection. Personally I wasn’t that into the book. I read it but it didn’t really thrill me.
Overall I will have to say that this collection was an enjoyable read.
Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld is an adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. My first reaction when I heard about this book was to jump for joy. I love Pride & Prejudice, have since I was seventeen years old. Well in this adaptation the Bennett family is in present day and all the sisters are adults, no young teenager insight. The story will follow all the sisters but of course will focus more on Liz.
Alright, my first thought after reading the book was that it was long. Second thought was I liked it. Was it my absolute favorite adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, no, but it was good. This book is very much the same and very different at the same time of Austen’s original story since it was being told in a modern world. What I noticed in Sittenfeld’s book was that the characters were very flawed and they were in the original story but their flaws are much more pronounced and up to date with issues that are dealt more commonly in today’s world. Though with these flaws also came some humor of the situation and I thought Sittenfeld wrote those parts well.
I think what threw me was Liz and what she does with Jasper. It made me think less of her but I was still waiting for her to realize her mistake. Also I will say that the romance between Darcy and Liz was something that almost happened out of thin air. Though Sittenfeld will make sure that a romance does happen because what would an adaptation of Pride & Prejudice without Liz and Darcy.
Miss Elinora “Nora” Browning had become an author the day the man she loved had cruelly crushed her dreams. Her pamphlet sold to many but now years later she will meet up with the man who was the inspiration and find that she still loved him, even though he still vexed her.
Lord Dashwood Missed Out is a book from the Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare. This novella is number 4.5 in the series. I have loved this series since I started it and I was so happy that Tessa Dare decided to write another story. There will be another story coming out which will be a novel.
I really liked this novella but I will say that I kind of wish it was a novel. I felt that the story was rushed and I wanted the characters to be drawn out more. I think it would help because Dash was someone I really couldn’t warm up to for most of the novel. Well I did like him but I couldn’t understand his intentions. I wondered if he was out for revenge or he wanted to win back Nora. I did like how Dash made up for his methods at the end. With Nora’s character I liked how she was strong enough to put her feelings down on paper and just write. She was still naive but that innocent trait was enduring with her character.
What I really liked was that Dare put in the other characters from the previous books. You got to read how things were going for them and it looks like everyone is happy, which was nice to read.
The next novel from Spindle Cove series will be coming out in September and it will be with Charlotte. I don’t have long to wait.
Hunter Buchanan was a loner except for a few select people he let into his life. He kept himself sheltered because of the hideous scars that were on one side of his face to his chest. Hunter will find himself getting interested in one woman, Gretchen, who fascinated him. He lures her to his mansion but when he tries to get to know her he keeps screwing it up, until she helps take charge.
Gretchen Petty was miserable being a ghostwriter. It just wasn’t her passion but this new ghostwriting job will intrigue her. The job will have her going through hundreds of letter in a mansion. But the job is not the only thing that intrigues her, the owner of the mansion, Hunter, will have her curious and she will not stop until she truly knows Hunters’s story.
Beauty and the Billionaire is the second book to the series Billionaire Boys Club by Jessica Clare. I really, really loved this story. I know why, its because this book is loosely based off to the story Beauty and the Beast, and that story is one of my favorites from childhood.
So Hunter is considered the beast in this story who had a tragedy strike him when he was only ten years old. I was horrified with what had happened to Hunter at that age. It was even worse with his fathers betrayal. I hated that Hunter was so alone in his life but it was natural for him because of the scars that were embedded into his skin. I liked his character even though he was so quiet and angry. So then there was Gretchen who was vibrant and beautiful but she also had a temper. At times Gretchen annoyed me in the other book, she was so moody but that is just part of her character. I liked that she was a take charge type of woman especially when she wanted to help Hunter and get close to him.
It was predictable that problems would occur within the story but I liked how Jessica Clare wrote the situations and was able to find a way out of them for her characters.
I am so far loving this series and I am going to be reading the third book next.
Abby Lewis didn’t want to go on a reality tv show but was forced to by her boss. She will not be equipped to handle all that would come her way, especially her partner Dean Woodall.
Dean Woodall was ready to play the game but he wasn’t ready for the woman that he would pick as his partner. Dean will want his partner and will find a way for them to work together while getting to know her.
Wicked Games is the first book to the series Games by Jessica Clare. I really liked this story. It was one I have heard before and have seen thanks to the show Survivor, but I thought it was well done.
I liked Abby’s character. She was an unwilling participant in the games but she gave it her all. I liked that she was not like everyone else, she wasn’t a schemer. So then there is Dean. I liked Dean’s character but I was a little confused if he was just playing Abby or really wanted to get to know the woman. I thought he was being real with her, at least I hoped.
So there was one character that I had a feeling would be the tricky villain, and when I say villain I mean they were playing the game. Though by their actions Abby is hurt which threatened the happy ending I wanted. Well I will get that happy ending regardless of the events that happened.
After reading this book I decided that I wanted to continue with Jessica Clare. Though I decided to switch to a new series Billionaire Boys Club.
