Cecilia Harcourt was on her way to find her missing brother when she will find instead his friend Edward Rokesby. She will care for Edward and pretend to be his wife to do so. She hoped that he would be able to tell her more about her brother but then she found out Edward had lost his memory .
Edward Rokesby could not remember the last three months of his life which is why he didn’t question that he married Cecilia and could not remember. He will try his best to remember what he had lost which will bring questions about who was telling the truth.
The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband is the second book to the series Rokesby by Julia Quinn. I found this to be a sweet story especially towards the end, the romantic in me was cheering.
I liked Cecilia’s character. I thought she was brave to go to New York and look for her brother. There could have been many things that could have happened to her as a woman on her own. Edward’s character was a good man and what I loved about him was that he truly loved Cecilia through reading Thomas’s letters. You knew the lie would hurt Edward but it was not one that was done maliciously. She lied to everyone to help find her brother.
The ending left us with the knowledge of the next Rokesby to have his story, which will be Andrew Rokesby.
Amy, Lady Mowbray was not really ready for society but she made a pact with her two friends. Amy will do her best and will be surprised when the man she had a crush on since she was a teenager had taken an interest in her, and as a member of the Dashing Widows she was going to take a chance with Lord Pascal.
Gervaise Dacre, Lord Pascal needed to marry a wealthy heiress but none of them were interesting him. Then Pascal spots a woman he needed to know. Pascal will pursue Amy relentlessly and will find himself falling for her.
Pursuing Lord Pascal is the fourth book to the series Dashing Widows by Anna Campbell. I liked this novella. I thought it was a good continuation to a series that I thought was finished. In the third book Campbell finished with the three original friends but in the fourth one, three more friends are introduced and are determined to do the same as the the widows before them.
Amy was a sensible young woman in my opinion and was very smart. I liked that she was not afraid to explore her own interest which was with farming. Amy was also cautious with her heart which helps when there will be trouble coming her way. When that trouble comes I was happy to read that she wasn’t too scared to just talk about the problem. Pascal was a rake and in trouble financially. I liked him though he had to mature some which Amy will make sure that he does.
I am looking forward to reading about the other two friends.
After reading all of Jane Austen’s stories I wanted to read just a little more but as I couldn’t get any more from Austen I decided to try a book that was a continuation of Pride & Prejudice. I had gotten Mr. Darcy Presents His Bride years ago for Christmas from my parents. It has been awhile since I read the book. I was happy to read this book again because it is really well written and a great sequel to a book I love so much.
The book is simply a continuation of the story Pride & Prejudice. Helen Halstead writes about the lives of Elizabeth and Darcy. She also writes about the family and friends that know Elizabeth and Darcy, along with some new friends they make in their come out as husband and wife.
I liked how Halstead wrote the continuation because it really showed how the characters lives had altered into a new way of living. I loved how Elizabeth felt overwhelmed but because of her charm she was able to glide through society, though it was still a struggle. She had to make sure not to embarrass her husband and to make sure they don’t lose their love for each other. It was interesting that Halstead gave each character a chance to have their own thoughts told on the page. You were really able to get to know the characters from Halstead’s words.
There was definitely some sad news that I didn’t like towards the end but you knew it would happen. Though I think Halstead brings it together to give you that happy ending which many have dreamed for Elizabeth and Darcy.
Well that is it for me with reading stories all related towards Austen, at least for now. I am sure I will come up with some more adaptations or inspired Jane Austen stories through my search of other authors to read.
Mili Rathod was married to her groom when she was four years old. Mili has waited twenty years for her groom to claim her but she only waited. Mili will take a chance and to further her education by going to the United States. She will meet a man Samir and will start to feel things for him. She knows it is wrong since she is married but her heart was bonding towards Samir. Though Mili will find out that everything is not as it seems.
Samir Rathod was a big time director but that was not his concern at the moment. His concern was to make sure the wedding of his older brother never took place. Samir will meet Mili and instead of telling her what he wanted, he will lie to Mili and befriend her. Before Samir knows it he will start falling for this woman and Samir will have to figure out how to tell her everything before she finds out the truth.
A Bollywood Affair is the first book to the series Bollywood by Sonali Dev. I loved this book. You are immersed into the culture and life of these characters. The characters felt real thanks to Sonali Dev’s storytelling. I could not put this book down.
Mili was a young woman who lived her cultures tradition. I liked that she was so devoted on her tradition but I thought she was a little naive. Though I was happy to read that she did want more especially as her husband was dragging his feet to claim her. Mili was also unbelievably kind and sweet to everyone which gets her into trouble because she happenes to trust the wrong man. Though I was happy that she showed a backbone but it was at a heartbreaking scene. Samir or Sam was a good man but he didn’t always handle things the best way. Like how he was lying to Mili about who he really was. I wanted him to come clean right away as I knew that would be a defining moment in the book. Though it was interesting to read how Samir was falling in love. He was trying to stop it from happening but it was something he could not stop.
The downfall is obviously when Mili will find out the truth and Sonali Dev does a good job at writing the scene. The emotions that were skillfully written, I felt all the emotions as I read the book.
I am looking forward to reading the second book to the series which I am reading next.
Ben McDaniel is back in his hometown, Lucky Harbor, where he needed to rest. He had been through his own tragedies and needed a place that was safe. He wondered if coming back home was where he needed to be but he will find something to intrigue him, Aubrey Wellington.
Aubrey Wellington has a lot to be sorry for and she has made a list of those people she had done wrong. One by one she will cross them off her list as she made amends to what she had done. Aubrey will do what she can with her list and the hardest one will be with Ben as she is falling in love with him.
Once in a Lifetime is the ninth book to the Lucky Harbor series. I thought that this was a another cute book from Jill Shlavis series that was fun to read with a very sentimental value. Now as like a lot of her characters in this series they are flawed which makes them realistic and that is something I love. I want my characters to be realistic as you can relate to them more. There is part of me that wants something different from these books as they are all kind of the same but that is the style of the series.
So the character of Aubrey was really fantastic. She had a reputation for trouble but that did not mean she was a bad person. She was righting her wrong and it seemed that all the things she had done were provoked because the other person was lying or being too strict on her. Of course that is not always right but I wouldn’t say that she was a horrible person. I liked that she was making amends with her list and that list will turn things around for her at least towards the end. Now there is Ben who was a little broken and he is finding himself back in Lucky Harbor. I liked Ben for the most part, he was a little persistent when it came to Aubrey and her list which might not have been the best tactic. He was curious about what was going on and you kind of wanted him to mind his own business, but overall he was really a good guy and got it right at the end.
Merryn Fenner had revenge on her mind since Garrick Northesk killed her brother in a duel. She will be getting her chance but a problem will occur when her thoughts start to drift romantically towards Garrick.
Garrick Northesk wanted to make amends for the past for the sisters who he ruined by killing their brother. Garrick will though have a secret he must hold on to as too many people would be hurt over the news.
Mistress of Midnight was more than I had thought when I first started reading, but it seems that all the books from the series Scandalous Women of the Ton have that element. Nicola Cornick does a good job writing Merryn’s and Garrick’s character and how their past and present are connected without them knowing all the details.
First of all I loved this book. There was anguish and guilt from both characters that had driven them to do penance for years. You don’t understand for what reasons right away but Cornick will slowly give us clues until the very end when you will know everything.
The love story within the story is not an easy thing. There are certainly steamy scenes in the story but the path is not an easy one. Of course once you get to that point Cornick romances Merryn and Garrick’s relationship.
What I have found out throughout the series is that Mr. Churchward, the lawyer, has always been there in the background helping someway. He does the same with Merryn to help her find the truth without telling her.
Now that I am done with the series leaving me now to go on a search for another series from Nicola Cornick.
Emma Hallaway has been married for twelve years but it is a marriage of convenience. Now her husband is back and right in time for a secret she has held from him to possible come out and ruin her.
Richard Mansfield, Earl of Asbury, is on the run from someone who wants him dead, it leads him back home to his wife. He had not seen his wife since the wedding night and now she has him speechless with her looks and how she has turned from shy to bold.
Going into the book The Seduction of His Wife I remember reading Tiffany Clare early last year. I had found to like her with her surprise writing. This book has the similar element to it along with the other two Hallaway sisters that are sisters to Abby who was in The Secret Desires to a Governess. I was excited to read about the other two sisters as I had only read about the aftermath of Abby in her own story.
In the book Tiffany Clare is really telling several stories. The main one of course is of Emma and Richard who were always at ends with each other except in the bedroom. The other story is with Grace, the other sister, and her own love affair. I enjoyed the different stories as it kept you going, there were no slow parts and many steamy scenes. There were at times when I felt once again the story was in the process of being told, like with the relationship between Waverly and the two Hallaway sisters or the Duke and Emma. There were things missing but it was very enjoyable and you could follow the story nevertheless.
