Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes

Twenty-Eight and a Half WishesRose Gardner worked at the DMV in her hometown which found her an odd ball. It was not the way that she dressed but because she had visions. One morning at the DMV Rose will see a man and suddenly a vision will come to her which will show her death. Rose will be frantic especially when her world starts to spin apart with several murders and secrets being uncovered.

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes is the first book to the series Rose Gardner Mystery by Denise Grover Swank. I liked this book. It was a free book on amazon. I had to get it since I had really loved the Wedding Pact series. This book was strange but with how Denise Grover Swank writes you are drawn in. Granted there was a couple situations that were very predictable but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book.

Rose’s character was considered odd because she had visions. I liked that about Rose because that made her different, unique. I liked Rose also because she was naive and sheltered which meant she was eager to experience life. She went for it when creating the list. What I didn’t always like was that she was too naive especially when it came to her new neighbor Joe. She does get smart and starts to ask questions but she is not that assertive when it comes to walking away.

There was some secrets that are uncovered which explain a lot of the animosity that was between Rose and her mother. One character that drove me crazy was Joe. He was a predictable character and one that made me what to slap him. He was a good guy, then a annoying guy, and finally kind of villain like towards Rose. I looked ahead in the series and Joe sounds like he is going to be disappointing.

So I am torn. I want to read more but I don’t always like series that is written around one character. I am also not a lover of love triangles that are more than three books. The love triangle gets boring and I just want the character to make a decision, which is why I like them in romances because when the book ends its usually finished. At least this series is done. Of course that didn’t stop the author from continuing with Rose, just in another series. I will see if I’ll continue on in the series.

Lover Unbound

Lover UnboundVishous, son of the Bloodletter, who will find himself stepping into a new job that didn’t involve the brotherhood thanks to his mother. Vishous will not want the job especially when he meets Jane.

Dr. Jane Whitcomb had lead a tough life. She worked hard and was determined. She will find herself in trouble when a man who she worked on in the ER will take her when his friends break him out of the hospital. She will find that these are not average men and that her future will be forever changed.

Lover Unbound is the fifth book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. So I have started my marathon with Ward and I thought that this book was another great one. I was excited to read about Vishous as I wanted to know more about him.

Well this story was not a happy one especially with the past events that had happened in Jane’s, Vishous’s and John’s life. Each of them had a sad past but that made them who they were. Jane’s past was full of neglect from her family when she was younger. Her parents ignored her when her sister was alive and then ignored her when her sister had died. You wanted to yell at the parents for doing that to her. Now Vishous’s past was horrifying with what his father had done to him all those years ago. Vishous though was able to survive and be part of the brotherhood. I found his character interesting as for most of the series he seemed attracted to Butch or at least their friendship, though when Jane comes into his life things change. He falls for Jane and falls for her hard. Their lives though are not full of happiness. There will be a tragic event that will happen which surprised me. I wasn’t sure how that was going to work for the couple but Ward will make sure that things worked out.

So John’s character as I said has a past full of tragedy and you can guess what happened to him when he was younger. I want to read his story especially now that he has made the transition to the Brotherhood. Though I will have to wait because first it will be Phury’s story.

Prince of Dreams

Prince of DreamsEmma Stokehurst was in love with one man but she could never have him which had her turning towards another. She does not claim to love Prince Nikolas but he allowed her the life she wanted. Emma soon starts to care for her husband when he turns distant. She will force herself to do the same but will be baffled when he changes once again.

Prince Nikolas had lived through abuse and saw what it had done to his brother. He wanted Emma since he had first meet her and he watched her bloom into a woman. He will get what he wanted but then he starts to truly care and even love. He will need to push her away before she understands that she was important to him but then every thing changes.

Prince of Dreams is the second book to the series Stokehurst by Lisa Kleypas. The second book finishes up the series and I have to say it was a really well written novel and I loved that this story was with Emma. I really loved her character. The story provoked a lot of emotion for the romance reader in me. I wanted Emma and Nikolas to have that chance and it seemed that they were doing well but then he becomes a cruel man towards his wife. I hated to read that side of him. I hated what it was doing to Emma. So there were definitely parts that I did not like in the book but it got you to feel and want that happy ending even more.

The paranormal aspect is once again in the book. Nikolas will be having visions but his will go much further. Alright this is a SPOILER ALERT so beware. If you don’t want to read what is going to happen to Nikolas stop reading now! So Nikolas will be thrown into his past but will be his great great grandfather. He will find love and happiness with his wife who looked just like Emma. As I read this part of the book I worried that he would be staying in this time. I wanted him back to the present, to love Emma once again. Well he will get back and become a different man, a man who is not completely tormented.

I loved the change in him but felt that he would really have to work hard to get back in the good graces of his wife. That will happen and there will be a very happy ending but there will be other bumps in the road which will threaten their happiness and safety.

I am continuing on in the list of books from Lisa Kleypas with Somewhere I’ll Find You.

Midnight Angel

Midnight AngelTasia was able to escape her prison and flee from Russia to England. She will find help in her distant cousin who will get her a job as a governess. She needs to stay hidden from those who would take her back. As a governess she thought she would be safe but her employer, Lord Luke Stokehurst, tempts her and she finds that she will want more though she cannot reach for it.

Lord Luke Stokehurst loved his deceased wife and would never marry anyone else. He wanted it to be just himself and his daughter. When the new governess comes to them he knows that she is hiding more and Luke made it his mission to find out her secrets. Though as he spends more time with Tasia he finds that he wants the woman he was coming to know.

Midnight Angel is the first book to the series Stokehurst by Lisa Kleypas. So I really liked this book but I will say the beginning did not grab me right away. I kept going because I knew that I would find myself enjoying the book once I got further into it, and of course that was what happened.

Tasia was a very young woman of eighteen but she was very mature for her age. She was strong willed but there was definitely a softness about her that was very kind to others. Luke had stopped living when his wife had died. With Tasia in his life he started to live his life again. He wanted things and it helped that Tasia truly understood what he had gone through as she lived her own tragedy.

There was a mystery within the book which was what happened when Tasia blacked out. She remembers waking up and holding a bloody knife which is covered in her cousin’s blood. You wonder if Tasia did indeed kill the cousin but in reality you know that it is another person who did the deed. The question was who? Kleypas will give an answer and justice for these characters that will have you satisfied.

I thought that it was interesting that there was a little supernatural mixed into the book. Tasia had visions or dreams of things that will be happening in the future. There is a little vision that happens at the end which make you wonder if that will come true. I will find out in the second book which I will be reading next.

Highland Sinner

Sir Tormand Murray is a lover of woman and many women would fall at his feet. Now Tormand has a problem as a few lovers he had been with have now been grotesquely murdered. Tormand is suspected but will not go down for something he has not done. He will find help in an unlikely woman.

Morainn Ross has been named a witch for all her live and has been kicked out of her town. Morainn makes a living with helping others with medicine but what keeps her alive is her visions. Now her visions are clear on the man Tormand and she feels it is her duty to save this man from death as it beats down his door and hers.

Highland Sinner has certainly reached a different level from the rest. Hannah Howell has spread her writing into the world of supernatural with this one. Although healing and visions have been talked about in the books this book goes into further detail. In fact this book focused solely on this for the plot.

I thought Howell did a nice job on making the supernatural world come alive and really horrific in the intense crime scenes.

Intertwined by Gena Showalter

Going through some of her series I decided to try another one. I picked up the seires Intertwined which is also the name of the book. There are only two books in the series so far.

With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But not they’re causing him all kinds of trouble. Like, he’ll blink and suddenly he’s a younger Aden, reliving the pas. One wrong move, and he’ll change teh future. Or he’ll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she’s going to die.

He’s so over it. All he wants is peace. And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, as long as he’s near her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite. He’s a loner; she has friends. He doesn’t care what anyone think’s; she tries to make everyone happy. And while he attracts the paranormal, she repels it. For her sake, he should stay away. But it’s too late…

Honestly when I first started to the book I kept shaking my head.  This was not making any sense.  It seemed the book was going all over the place but I kept on reading hoping it would make sense.

I was glad I kept reading.  Still it is strange but it was intriguing and I needed to know what was going to happen.  The concept behind the book is strange but it is an entertaining young adult book.

Showalter seemed though to bring in all supernatural characters into play with the book.  In that sense it seemed a little busy within the book.

Now once everything is settled the book makes sense.  I like that Aden has the four souls in his head and is trying to find a way to release them.  The ending is very beneficial for one of the souls and a main character.

I liked the four main characters each were very different but all seemed to belong with each other.

Intertwined has a touching ending and leaves you wondering what will happen in the next book.
