In Rides Trouble

In Rides TroubleBecky “Rebel” Reichert was one of the best mechanics as she could create and build most anything. She will use this skill and her business as a cover for her brothers team of ex-military men. She was treated as one of the boys but desperately wanted to be noticed by the one man she had wanted for three years, Frank.

Frank “Boss” Knight had wanted Becky from the first moment that he saw her but he kept away because of the age difference. Now with three years near each other Frank will reach his boiling point and keep Becky at his side especially when she will be in danger.

In Rides Trouble is the second book to the series Black Knight Inc by Julie Ann Walker. I wanted more after reading the book which is good since that I have checked out all the books I could to continue the series. I had said the other day that I bet this series will be scorching and I was right. The second book is even steamier than the first thanks to the pent up sexual tension that is between Becky and Frank.

The characters of Frank and Becky are people who are in your face and determined to be the leaders which makes things frustrating for both of them. I really liked Frank’s character as he was a hard-ass but he was loyal to his men and wanted to be the good man. What drove me crazy was this deception he had going with this woman he went to visit who had a kid. I didn’t think this was a real love interest but I wasn’t completely sure. At one point I thought she was a widow of one of his men that he might have lost and she needed him. No matter who the woman was I didn’t want her to interfere with Becky’s pursuit of Frank. Now Becky was as tough as nails and a spitfire but even she had her breaking moments which I thought Walker wrote well. After the kidnapping you saw a softer side of Becky who was fighting back tears as she didn’t want to show a vulnerability to the men or Frank.

Throughout the book sparks flew between Frank and Becky which made this book very entertaining to read and filled with sexual tension and yes finally hot sex between them which was building for three years.

The bad guys were by far the men who took Becky and Eve from their boat. They were not very smart with the kidnapping but they should not be counted out because there will be some trouble later on in the book.

The third book is Rev It Up with Michele and Jake.

Austenland

AustenlandJane Hayes has lived for Pride and Prejudice and it has become a thing of dreams from the moment Colin Firth came into the picture. Thanks to an unexpected addition in her Great-Aunt’s “Will” Jane will have the chance to live the life she always wanted.

Austenland by Shannon Hale is exactly what I imagined, a little quirky and filled with women who want to life the Jane Austen experience. This was the perfect book to read for the Jane Austen fan. It was only 195 pages so I went through it pretty fast but enjoyed every page.

There are little surprises throughout the book especially with who some of these people really are in their own lives. I liked that Jane grew up through the book and knew she had to take charge and live her life. The part at the end with Mrs. Wattlesbrook’s and Jane was priceless and perfect. There were times that it got confusing who was good for Jane and who wasn’t. It was a tug between Martin and Nobley. I couldn’t make up my mind, secretly I was going for Mr. Nobley. The truth will come out in the end and the right man will be paired with Jane. The ending was what you wanted in a happy ending filled with romance and hope of a new beginning.

Any Way You Want It

Maggie Gallagher is on vacation from her work with her two friends. After a break up with her boyfriend her friends encouraged a fling with a musician who started to pay attention to her. Maggie will throw caution to the wind and follow the music.

Renauldo D’Antoni now goes as Ren Anthony for a modern take on his name. As a composer years ago music has been his passion and as a vampire he has had plenty time to work on his music. Now Ren will find a woman who is not like the others. He will find himself wanting her but is scared by keeping her would be unfair.

I really liked Any Way You Want It by Kathy Love. I had started the series a while ago with the fourth book. This book was fun in the sense that Love keeps it lighthearted with humor and an easy plot to follow. I liked the different take she did on vampires. In the book Ren was a vampire but he was also a lampir, a vampire that sucks the energy instead of biting the person. With most of the vampire books it is a bite on the neck. Its nice to read about vampires with a little twist, but still the classic vampires will always be wanted.

4th of July by James Patterson

The fourth book, 4th of July,  in the series of The Women’s Murder Club is another stellar book.  James Patterson brings back the now three women to the pages in this dynamic storyline where Lindsay is on the line.

“In a late-night showdown after a near-fatal car chase, San Francisco police lieutenant Lindsay Boxer has to make an instantaneous decision: in self-defense, she fires her weapon, and sets off a chain of events that leaves a police force disgraced, an etire city divided, and a family destroyed.  Now everything she worked for her entire life for hinges on the decision of twelve jurors.

To escape scrutiny during breaks from her trial, Lindsay retreats to the picturesque town of Half Moon Bay.  But soon after her arrival, a string of grisly murders punches through the peaceful community.  There are no witnesses and there is no discernible pattern.  But a key detail recalls a case Lindsay worked on as a rookie years before, an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since.  As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay and her friends in the Women’s Murder Club battle for her life on two fronts: before judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax, and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings-including killing again.”

This book, 4th of July, was amazing to read.  It was a nice change from other plots because this one was primarily in the court room around this one crime that Lindsay was involved in.  Of course there is another crime that is happening which Lindsay will involve herself in, even though she was not supposed to.

Reading the book I have to say James Patterson doesn’t give too many clues that you can pick up on for who the murderer is, which is great!  I love a mystery and how the characters appear one way then another.  But during this book I did end up suspecting one person which was part of the crime.  They were unlikely but I have learned to suspect the ones you don’t think.  But in his books you get caught up in them that you don’t really think about it, just read.

As the suspect comes forward you still didn’t know the true reasons for what was happening until that person told you in the book.

This book was dynamic with the characters.  Showed a new side of Lindsay with her being guilty and vulnerable.  And there is a new friend that is made for the women in the book.
