Private Lies

Private LiesJax Monroe was pissed at her soon to be ex husband, the man she had thought loved her, but when she found him cheating she knew it was all lies. Jax will have to get her life in gear again. Her friends solution was to find someone knew. She had her eye on the bartender but she wasn’t that type of girl. Though there will be something about Shane that will have her wanting him and then wanting more.

Shane Reynolds was undercover as a bartender. He was disgusted by the way people acted at the country club but then he meets Jax. She is the only person that he wanted to get to know. Though it could be crossing a line as he was working for her father. Shane will take a risk when it comes to Jax.

Private Lies is the third book to the series Sex, Lies & Wedding Cake by Cat Johnson. I liked this story. It was pretty much fluff, not much going on, but it was still fun to read. I thought this of course could have been drawn out into a bigger novel which would let you know more about the characters.

Jax was wealthy due to her parents. She might not make the best decisions but she tries her hardest at whatever she does. I liked that Jax wasn’t like her friends or the majority of people at the country club. I also liked that she let herself go and be with Shane. Those scenes were again very steamy. Shane’s character is not necessarily the bad boy but he is certainly rough around the edges for the country club scene. I liked that he was a private investigator and that he was undercover. I was wondering if that would get him into trouble with Jax as he is lying to her but Johnson kind of just glosses over that part, its there but its not that big of deal. Maybe in a novel it would have been, though when you are writing a novella there is only so much that you can put in.

Wrong Number, Right Guy

Wrong Number Right GuyMay Wexler will find herself stepping into a biker bar thanks to some strange texts she got from her sister. May will soon find out that the texts were not from her sister but a man named Ozzie, who was undercover. Because of the wrong number May will find herself on the run and needing protection, Ozzie will provide that protection along with an opportunity that will change her life.

Wrong Number Right Guy is first book from Bourbon Street Guys by Elle Casey. I took a chance on this story as I have never read anything from this author. From the reviews I was optimistic about the story because the majority had said the story was funny and well done. I will have to agree with the statement as I thought that this was a funny story with strange but interesting characters. I can see all of these characters having their own story.

May’s character was such a surprise. She might have been scared  about the danger but when she needed to be strong. I really liked how she got the upper hand when it came to some combat skills. The problem with May I thought was with her feelings about Ozzie. I guess it was normal especially in such an extreme situation, it just got a little annoying at times. Now Ozzie’s character was a badass and almost like a mystery. He is quiet but his quiet is respected. Though there is another side to him which can be funny. He is playful when it comes to May and that helps her when they get together.

The bad guys that the team are after sell drugs and of course deal in murder. The team will be doing surveillance which is where May will come in. She will be taking pictures of the bad guys. There is not a lot of interaction with the bad guys but in the end I do like how Elle Casey has one of the bad guys being stopped.

I am looking forward to continuing the series when the second book comes out.

Run the Risk

Logan Riske is on a mission to find out about his friends murder. He has to first locate the witness which seems to be harder than he thought. Logan will go after the witnesses sister who appears to be be undercover as well.

Pepper Yates has a knack for looking over her shoulder as she has been running with her brother for years. Now the danger is higher and she has to be careful of everyone, especially the new tenant who can’t take a hint to leave her alone.

Run the Risk

Run the Risk is the first book to Lori Foster’s series Love Undercover. Pretty much whatever book Foster writes I will like. Run the Risk keeps with that tradition. The series reminded me of Edge of Honor but a little less intense. Love Undercover has a little more lightheartedness, lots of sex and sexual tension, but still with danger lurking at every step.

Within the series there are six people you get to know. The main ones are Logan and Pepper but I felt that Foster does a good job so you know who the others are. The other characters will be following this book with their own story in the series Love Undercover, which I am excited to read.

Within the story I really liked the cloak and dagger situations Logan and Pepper were in. They were both playing a false role but parts of them could never be hidden, especially how they go above and beyond in protecting those around them.

I loved how mousy Pepper had to play when in reality her character is anything but plain. She craves life and that does show especially during the steamy scenes between herself and Logan. Now Logan is the man you want watching over you. He is tough, attractive, and good with his hands.

Bare It All is the second book to the series Love Undercover and came out in April while the third book, Getting Rowdy will be coming out in September. I am taking a break from the series until the third book comes out so I can read the second and third right after each other. This way I wouldn’t have to wait.

Shiver

ShiverSamantha Jones works to survive. She has to as her four year old son depends on her. Sam will go to work as normal in her repo job of cars when the unexpected happens, in the trunk a man’s body is found. She thought him to be dead with all the blood but then he asks for help. She will have little time to think as she is quickly pulled into a dangerous situation.

Daniel Panterro or to his enemies Rick Marcos. Danny is undercover from his FBI job but something went wrong. Danny finds himself being beaten to death and left for dead only to have a woman come to his rescue, but the danger is long from over.

First off I have to say that I loved this book. I have never read anything from Karen Robards but I was blown away with the action and the quick moving plot from Shiver that had you wanting more. This is quick fast pace book that is purely an action adventure and suspense thriller, you will be racing to finish to the conclusion. I had a feeling I would like this book from the description so I made sure to read it in the morning so I could finish it in one sitting. It was a good thing as I couldn’t put down the book.

This is a story that is already in the process of being told with the situation Danny is in but it is easy to follow. I thought that Danny’s character of the FBI agent was believable. He would not give up his name no matter what throughout the mission. He gave away little to help Sam and Tyler cope. Now Sam was a strong woman that was determined and clever. She did what she needed to survive which I loved about her. I think that both of these characters for me seemed real.

The villain was of course was a twist like any good thriller. This was probably a more violent book I have read but it is done without over doing it, so you know exactly what is going on. Robards keeps the plot simple and fast paced, and gives us an ending which wraps up the whole story. I often read more books from series so its nice at times to read a book and know that you just read the conclusion of the story. Shiver will not be the last book I will read from Karen Robards especially with the long list of novels she has written.

Forbidden Fantasies

Reading already a little on Forbidden Fantasies series, a series which is a collection of various authors, I knew what to expect from Cara Summers, especially since this is part of Harlequin Romance. Since I had started with the last last and friend of family I went to the first two with Naomi and Jillian which had me intrigued to find out how things had started.

The first one of the stories that started with the Haworth House is Led Into Temptation.

Naomi Brightman is the oldest sister and one that needs to protect them but now she is in need of someone protecting her. With her ex-fiances in trouble with the law people start looking at her. Naomi leaves only to be followed around by a priest. Of course Dane MacFarland is anything but a priest and thanks to a little help from a ghost he and Naomi will fulfill a fantasy and keep away from danger.

Taken Beyond Temptation is the second book which stars Jillian as the next sister to take the challenge of the fantasy box.

Jillian is now ready to make a big real estate deal but will find out it is not everything she dreamed it would be. She will be out of luck but soon that will change. She will find herself bumping into the same mysterious man. Jillian starts to want him as he would be the perfect man to fulfill the fantasy as all she wants is to be swept away.

The first two stories kept me wanting more and pulling me to read their stories which I liked. The addition of the ghosts was a little something different especially as it was a matchmaking ghost, so I kept going with the series. I picked up Sexy Silent Nights thinking that it was a continuation. Of course this story is a continuation but from the series as a whole.

A one night stand was supposed to be one night but now Cilla Michael’s must help out Jonah Stone. Cilla is a security specialist and does her job well and will not get distracted by Jonah, but that is a lie she tells herself. Protecting Jonah will be her task but it will get clouded by the sight of him and how feelings are still very much present.

The last story didn’t not keep me as invested as the other two did. Sexy Silent Nights was still steamy and interesting but after reading the other two with the ghost I guess I felt there was something missing. Then you get a little more into the story and you find yourself liking both characters and hoping for a happy ending.

With all three stories Summers delivers romance and steamy scenes from her funny and intriguing characters. Forbidden Fantasies series has me interested in searching out beyond Cara Summers to others who contributed to the series, to find out what other types of fantasies other authors have in store for the reader.

Don’t Get Wrongfully Accused

At first I saw Lethal on the rack and wondered if I would want to pick it up. After Tough Customer I was hesitant and not because it was a bad book which is far from the truth, but I wasn’t sure if it would be a roller coaster. Lethal had its ups and downs but there was not so much betrayal on the main characters which I liked.

Honor Gillette and her daughter Emily lived alone after her husband was killed in a fatal car accident. Her world will get turned upside down though when she encounters a man who just killed seven people.

Lee Corban is wanted for murder but he wouldn’t go down without a fight. He is looking for something which will tie everything together and he hopes that Eddie Gillette’s widow, Honor, will provide him with the answers.

With cops and FBI agents looking everywhere, Corban must make a decision and that is to take Honor and Emily with him before anyone else has to die.

This novel was fantastic. I loved it and did not want to put it down. Sandra Brown delivers books which are sometimes tough to read because they are not always romance but mystery or action adventure where the characters are not always at a happy ending.

Her characters were well written and intriguing to read about. I loved the twist and the betrayal as you were not sure who did what and who the person really was. The ending I thought wasn’t going to go how you wanted but it left it open and to a happy ending a reader can imagine which I liked.

I can’t wait for the next novel by Sandra Brown.

Doing It Right

MaryJanice Davidson writes quirky material which will make you laugh. In this one book holds two novellas which are very funny.

Thief of Hearts

Dr. Jared Dean is a great doctor and believes he would help out anyone which he was going to do for this woman. That is of course until he saw she needed no help. This woman was a one man ass kicking machine. She is is the Avenging Angel her job is to stop mobsters right now and the doctor is now in the way. Her job will now also be to protect him which would not be hard to handle.

Wild Hearts

Kat doesn’t back down especially when a man is trying to steal her car. She is thrown to say the least that the man is gorgeous. With an intense kiss Kat takes the opportunity to throw the car thief in her truck and drive to her brother who is the D.A. Kat doesn’t know that the man in her trunk is actually an undercover cop and knows Kat’s brother. The two will embark on a mission which will prove dangerous to say the least.

Both stories are short and too the point. It’s always funny to read about the woman being the ones to kick butt. The Avenging Angel will also make an appearance in the second story. MaryJanice Davidson will have you laughing at her quirky characters and strange plots.
