Lady Iris Jordan had been taken mistakenly. She will be rescued but at the time she had not known that the Duke of Dyemore was trying to rescue her. She will have to stay with him until the Lords of Chaos stop looking for her.
Duke of Dyemore, Raphael, is a cynical man who was trying to help someone in danger, someone that had intrigued him. By saving Iris he set his life and hers in jeopardy.
Duke of Desire is the twelfth book to the series Maiden Lane by Elizabeth Hoyt. I liked the book as I always enjoy Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series but I will say this is not my favorite. The series is veering off from the Ghost which I really loved. Although the Lord of Chaos has been intriguing but with this book it is really going into the detail of these men and its a little disturbing.
The character of Iris was a little boring in the previous book but she came alive in this book. I liked that she was a fighter and brave. Raphael’s character is someone who has been damaged a long time ago. Iris will help try and heal him but it will be tough. Raphael will get a revenge of sorts to help stop the group that hurt him.
Now, I have two novellas to read next from the series.
Wrath is the King of his people. It has been a privilege and curse and it has only gotten worse. The kingdom is being taken from Wrath, which got Wrath thinking that maybe that would not be a bad thing especially if being King meant he would have to give up the woman he loved.
The King is the twelfth book to the series Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. I thought that this was a very good book. Normally in series the author doesn’t give the main characters another story but Ward did. Wrath and Beth will be the main characters in this book just like the first book.
As stated above Wrath’s kingdom is in danger. Though there is another situation that will have Wrath scared which is Beth’s need for a baby. Wrath doesn’t want a baby because that would endanger Beth who was more important to Wrath. I liked how Ward continued Wrath and Beth’s story. They were obviously happy but there were some problems that they had to work through. I liked that their story wasn’t just with them happy and everything is going great as that would be unrealistic in a marriage. There are definitely ups and downs in any marriage.
Now in the book I noted that Beth wanted a baby and she will get her wish, but with her being a half breed some things are a little different for her that I thought was interesting. What I also liked was the ending. Again it was a little corny and sappy but with everything that had changed within the book I wanted that type of happy ending.
So there is one more book that is ready to be checked out at my library but I am going to take a break from this Brotherhood. This series has been very good but I will say it can get overwhelming with all that is happening. I am going to take a break and come back to the thirteenth book which will be with Trez.
Callie was a wedding planner who moved back home to help her grandmother. She will be shocked to find Tanner, her high school crush, living there. She will be even more shocked when he finds her attractive.
Tanner was an ex-Navy Seal and businessman. He was also a father but had very litter interaction with his son, though not because he didn’t want to. He will get a chance to have that relationship but it will be trying. He be will tested by his sons attitude but also by Callie who moved back to town.
One in a Million is the twelfth book in Jill Shalvis’s Lucky Harbor series. I loved this book. I started the book early in the morning and since I had to work I had to put it down and actually work. Though on my lunch break I was back reading it. I finished the book later into the evening and when I go to the last page I was thrilled. The characters of Callie and Tanner were flawed but so perfect for each other, if they gave each other a chance.
I loved the fact that Callie was the granddaughter of Lucille. Lucille has been a fun character throughout the series. She has been a little pushy at times but you can’t help but like her character. Now Troy who is Tanner’s son was a great character. You needed to have Troy in the book because it gave some more depth to Tanner’s character and Troy’s character was well written.
The last book which I have to read is the 12.5 book which is actually a novella that is revisiting with Chloe and Sam.
Felicia Swift wanted a new start with Fool’s Gold. She wanted to be normal as she was considered a freak because she was very smart. Felicia will hear that Gideon was back and before she knew it they started back up but she knew he was not going to want a relationship. She still found herself staying with him.
Gideon Boylan was in Fool’s Gold to act like everyone else but he knew he was not like everyone else in the town. Gideon will be surprised to see Felicia showing up and the sparks that flew four years ago were still igniting. He knew she was looking for the forever kind of guy and as he was not that guy he should stay away but he could not take his own advice.
Two of a Kind is Susan Mallery’s twelfth book from the series Fool’s Gold which I can’t get enough of since I started. Mallery is on a role with these strong men from the Black Ops who have now come into town. Felicia is part of the team but for reasons that she is very smart on a genius level. I loved Felicia. She seemed so authentic with how she was written in the book like her dialogue or the actions she takes. Then there is Gideon who is a broken man from two years of torture. He was the hero that you wanted to hold and tell that everything would get better. You hoped from the start that Felicia and Gideon would be together but it was not an easy transition and it almost did not happen.
I liked the added surprise of Carter who showed up. Carter is Gideon’s son who gives his dad a surprise especially as Gideon did not know about him. Carter brings in a sense of normalcy for Felicia and Gideon. I liked that Mallery writes Carter to be similar to his dad with a sense of loss plus the nightmares he has.
With Fool’s Gold series Susan Mallery keeps bringing up the characters from past books which is nice. You also have a feeling that you know which character will be a couple just from the subtle clues, which I actually don’t mind because she creates the books to be well rounded and ones you want to curl up and just read. I have the next two books in my pile so Three Little Words is next to read.
Savannah Reid was always looking for work and her friend, Detective Dirk Coulter, and ex-partner on the force got her a bodyguard gig for a celebrity. Savannah figured it would be easy until dead bodies started to show up.
I haven’t found many mystery novels that I liked to read or wanted to read more after the book was done. I am always searching for something that peaks my interest with a who done it plot. I think I found something with the book Fat Free and Fatal. Picking up the book I did not know it was a continuing series from the author G A McKevett. The series is called Savannah Reid. I started the series at the twelfth book and even though it was a book in progress with the characters you are able to read it without feeling like you are missing everything.
So about the book, it was fun to read. The mystery had characters who were a little quirky. I liked the character of Savannah obviously. She was snappy with her comebacks especially with Dirk, had some wit, humor and was good at her job. I liked Dirk as well. He was the cliche of an overworked cop but was a good man. There wasn’t any romance between them but you can tell that there is something there and I look forward to reading about how it will progress.
The murder/mystery aspect kept you on your toes with misdirection and it wasn’t a doom and gloom type of mystery. There was humor and the mystery was kept lighthearted especially with the type of characters in the book.
I think that I found a mystery series that I like, now I just have to start from the beginning to see how Savannah Reid got her start. If the beginning is as good as the twelfth book then I will have a new series to read.
Caroline “Caro” Sutcliff had no desire to marry again. One political marriage was enough for her. She had to make sure her niece did not have the same fate. She will pull Michael’s attention from Elizabeth but he will turn toward her.
Michael Anstruther-Wetherby needed a wife to keep going in his career. He had a bride in mind even though she was on the younger side. He will get advice to find a more sophisticated woman and he will take that advice and look towards Caro for his ideal bride.
The Cynster series keeps going with the twelfth book from Stephanie Laurens. The title of the book, The Ideal Bride, describes the story perfect. An ideal bride is being looked for by Michael. I liked that Michael turned toward Caro but he was not one to push her into something she was fearing. He was a man who knew what he wanted but knew when to hold back. Caro was a woman who wanted to see her niece happy. I liked that Michael was the man that pulled out what she kept inside her. She was not an experienced woman and Michael became the teacher which let them learn about each other. She does not change her mind about marriage overnight which works with her character.
The Ideal Bride is another good book to the series. I am trying to read more of the series together which led me to find the remaining books from the Cynsters at my library. So now I have five more to go to finish up the series.
Phineas McKinney has been a vampire, the good kind, for the last several years. He has helped in battle and become part of the team. His name the Love Doctor has earned him a reputation and one he now wants to forget. He wants to find actual love and not just one night stands. Phineas wants one woman from the first time he saw her but she is not one of them and she has no love for them.
Brynley Jones is a werewolf princess and was screaming to leave and now she is free, but her wolf is wanting something more. Brynley lust after Phineas even though he is a vampire and now she will get her chance when there is a problem near her home. She and Phineas will fight together and fight against each other until Brynley lets herself go, but all will not be well when she comes home as it will not be a happy reunion.
I have been following the Love at Stake series for some time now and have to saw I really love how Kerrelyn Sparks creates her characters to flow in and out of the stories. Wanted: Dead or Alive was fantastic for twelfth book in the series. I loved this book. Of course there were things that I hated like the father of Bryn. He is a horrible character that doesn’t really care for his daughter on the outside or at least shows little regard for her. If he is in the series anymore I hope that he gets put down a peg or two.
Sparks will keep the series interesting as there will be two big twist that I did not see coming which only adds to the ever growing series.
Try this book out if you like vampires, shapeshifters and werewolves. I do recommend that of course you start from the beginning to become drawn into the characters and immersed into the plot.
Below are the ones I have already read and loved every page. Check out the series and see if its one for you.
