Miracle on 5th Avenue

Eva Jordan is a romantic who will always look on the bright side of things. She had lost her grandmother but she had the support of her friends to get through the loss. She will be given a job to help design Lucas Blade, the writer, apartment but she will be surprised that he was at home. Lucas Blade was supposed to be writing in Vermont but will be staying at his apartment trying to write through his writers block.

Miracle on 5th Avenue is the third book to the series From Manhattan with Love by Sarah Morgan. Alright I liked the book, it was cute and sweet and all about moving on but I guess I just wasn’t as invested in this book.

Now I liked Eva’s character but she was a little much at times with her positive behavior. I didn’t want her character to not be positive but it was a lot at times. Other than her enthusiasm I liked that she was kind and did what she could to help others. Lucas’s character was still brooding about his wife who had passed away several years ago. He also had writers block because of his mood. It was interesting that Eva helped solve the writers block. What happens to his story is predictable and a little comical but it helps bring them closer. I will say that even though I wasn’t that invested in the book I thought the ending was sweet and brought a smile to my face as I finished the book.

Love in the Light

Love in the LightMakenna James and Caden Grayson had met in an unusual situation. They had been trapped in a dark elevator for several hours. Within those hours a bond had been formed and since then they had been inseparable for the last couple of months. They will be taking the next step with going home to Makenna family. Caden will be nervous but excited. It will be then that he will realize that there were things that needed to be worked out and he would have a decision to make.

Love in the Light is the second book to the series Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye. This books was amazing. I thought the first book was good, well the second book is even better. You get to know Makenna and Caden really well. Laura Kaye does an impressive job with writing the sequel.

I loved these characters and their story. I felt their emotion and was drawn into their lives. Makenna was a sweet heart and I loved that she was so caring with Caden. She knew what he needed and she was all in when it came to the relationship. Makenna was the perfect girlfriend and I have to say that she wasn’t so perfect that it was annoying. Now Caden’s character had a darker past and it was beyond tragic. Because of this tragedy Caden was more of a mess than you really knew.

Throughout the story I knew that a problem would happen and Kaye does a great job with the issues that come up between them. What she did even better was find a way to help Caden sort through his life and get it back on track. That was an uphill battle but one that was done really well.

All I can say is that I want more from the James’s family. I am hoping that Laura Kaye will write about Patrick and Ian. It seems that Colin has someone to be with but that might change. I don’t know if she will write anymore with the James’s family but I would certainly read their stories.

Last Hit

Last HitNikolai was a trained assassin since he was a young boy. He has killed many. When Nikolai meets Daisy he will want her instantly but he has to be careful as he has enemies who will be after him, and Daisy.

Daisy needed freedom from the life she had lived and she takes that chance. She will move out and be on her own for the first time. It is then that she meets Nikolai and everything in her life will change.

Last Hit is the first book to the series Hitman by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick. First off I did like the book but it took some time to truly get into it. Don’t get me wrong, there was intrigue and I wanted to know what the heck was going on, but it took some time for me to really like the novel. A part of the reason I think was it was just so different from her other series. Though once I was into the story I was in it for the whole book.

Daisy’s character was a sweet, naive girl who was in way over her head. I liked her character for the most part but she was a little too trusting, and that was too unbelievable. Though I did like that she gave Nikolai a chance because you knew that she would find what she needed with him. Now Nikolai is a dangerous man. He has been a trained assassin for many years. He will be watching Daisy, which I will say is a little creepy. Although that is is job. I found myself liking Nikolai. He was a man stuck in a job that he was trained to do, not something he loved. I liked that he was starting to change thanks to Daisy.

So there is some definite danger that surrounds the book. You would think something would happen because this book was about an assassin. I was surprised with how the situation turned bad, but after thinking about it you knew something would happened.

I am going to be continuing the series and will be reading Last Breath next.

All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue

All the ways to ruin a rogueLady Aurelia loved Max when she was nine years old but was shattered and brokenhearted at fifteen when she found him to be a rogue. Because of that night Aurelia made it her mission never to get along with Max. For year they bickered back and fourth but thing will start to escalate from heated arguments to heated embraces.

Max, Viscount Camden, had been friends with Lady Aurelia since she was a young child. He was astonished when she ruined his reputation some years later. After that he made sure that rumor was gotten rid of. He made it his mission to fight verbally with Aurelia whenever she was around otherwise he might do something he would regret, like taking her for his own.

All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue is the second book to the Debutante Files by Sophie Jordan. I really enjoyed this book. It was hard at times because of all the fighting. I thought that they should be adults and really talk about the problem, but that was never going to happen. I did like how Sophie Jordan wrote the bickering between the two. It seemed real. There are times in books when enemies go to lovers and its a little too unbelievable. I thought that she did a good job because when they became lovers all was not forgiven, at least yet.

Aurelia’s character acted like a child at times but I still liked her.  Aurelia is also an artist and she is gusty for leaving her drawings for others to find. I also liked that she finally was doing something more for herself in the book. She was not necessarily a wallflower but she didn’t really go against the grain often. Then there is Max. Max was a scoundrel and he was good at it. I didn’t always like Max because I felt he was throwing his life away. I was happy to have Max finally be with Aurelia because then you knew the scoundrel would slowly disappear.

As I said above the romance between them starts but doesn’t heal all things between them. That will need time and for both characters to learn to trust one another, not just lust after each other and it does happen.

So to me this sounds like the end of the series but one never knows if another book will be written.

A Slip in Time

A Slip in TimeJulia Hargrove was from England, the year was 1893. She was going with her family to Scotland to the Dunraven castle. She will not want to be at castle especially as her room seems to be haunted. Julia will find out that it is not haunted but that time shifts and she comes face to face with a warrior, Rae MacKinnon, back in 1390.

A Slip in Time is a book from Kathleen Kirkwood. I was impressed with this book.

So I don’t read many time travel books just because I am not always interested in them. It usually is that the writing is not that great or the style of how the book is written. Well I had no complaints when I read the book from Kathleen Kirkwood. I was immediately pulled into the story and did not want to stop reading.

Immediately I liked Julia’s character, I thought she was written well. I liked that was scared and heartbroken, but she had a backbone when it came to doing what she needed. Then there was Rae who was a man that was a laird of his clansmen. He was a warrior but not just all brawn, he was smart and cautious. He was also very sensual especially when it came to Julia. I loved the romance that bloomed between them but in the back of my mind I wondered how would it last when you knew that the slip in time would eventually close.

I thought that Kirkwood wrote the time traveling parts very well. I was intrigued with how she made the time traveling happened, how it progressed and that it had happened before. So for those who want a very well done time traveling book try A Slip in Time.

Dangerous by Amanda Quick

Only in the dead of night will she come to find her true love but can she make him hers forever…

Amanda Quick writes Dangerous which is an intriguing, mysterious love story through the Victorian period.

The Plot of Dangerous:

“At five and twenty, Prudence Merryweather knew very well the risks a woman took by visiting a gentlman in the dead of night.  But bearding teh notorious Earl of Angelstone in his den was the only way to stop him from engaging her hot-headed brother in a duel.  And that was why she found herself ushered into Sebastians forbidding presence at three in the morning-and thoroughly kissed before dawn.

She was a country-bred innocent and an intriguing experience for a man who dwelt more in the shadows than in the sunshine.  Yet as her boldness drew Prue into one dangerous episode after another, Sebastian found himself torn between a raging hunger to possess her and a driving need to protect her.  And the reckless beauty would soon need all the protection she could get…”

Amanda Quick really is one of my favorite romance authors.  I am always drawn into her books.  In this particular book Quick shows her wit with the characters as she pairs up Prue and Sebastian.  I love how Sebastian is an oddity and doesn’t care what others think.  Prue cares but wants to make everything okay along with Sebastian’s family.

Then as you are done with the character dynamic’s there is the plot which is another driving force of this novel.  I was blown away by how the plot of murder was swept into the plot without it being obvious and the same with the villain.  You thought you knew but wasn’t sure.

Dangerous was fantastic to read with the danger, paranormal activity, intrigue, wit, adventure and love underneath it all.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Titan’s Curse

“When Percy Jackson receives an urgent distress call from his friend Grover, he immediately prepares for battle.  He knows he’ll need his powerful demigod allies at his side: his trusty bronze sword, Riptide; and …a ride from his mom.

The demigods race to the rescue to find that Grover has made an important discovery: two new powerful half-bloods, whose parentage is unknown.  But that’s not all that awaits them.  The Titan lord, Kronos, has set up a devious trap, and the young heroes have just fallen prey.”

With each book that I read of Rick Riordan’s series with Percy Jackson it gets more interesting, intriguing and even funny.  I am blown away with each book of this series.

Rick Riordan’s third book of Percy Jackson’s series is Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Titan’s Curse, I loved.   I like the fact that each book Percy is getting that much closer to the age of sixteen when the prophecy will take place but who will that really be?  Percy is not the only hot ticket in town now.  Thalia, Zeus daughter was brought back and is very close to sixteen but now two more confidantes will be coming forward and will be a surprise to all.

I find it frustrating with the character of Luke.  You know that he has turned but secretly you want him to be really helping Percy and his friends but alas I do not think that is so.  Luke really is part of the villains and wants his revenge which he will be getting as Kronos becomes stronger.

I like the new character of Rachel who is a mortal but she can see through the mist.  She is not a main character but perhaps she will make herself known in the next book.

Poseidon is making himself known little by little which is making Percy feel a little better but he has his friends and his brother.  Percy’s mom is also dating a teacher who just might be good for her.

Artemis and Apollo will make themselves known as one will get tangled up in with the villains.  The huntresses who are only loyal to Artemis will get involved to find their priestess.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Titan’s Curse is nothing but action packed with tragedy as those who are close will meet their ends, and questions will be answered.
