The Shadows

The ShadowsTrez was destined to be mated with the Queens daughter thanks to his parents selling him to the Queen when he was a baby. Though Trez has no desire to be with the daughter especially when he has found a woman to love.

The Shadows is the thirteenth book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. I liked this novel but I will say that it took a little time to get into the story. One reason, and it is a reason that happens most times I read from this series, its the length of the book. I know that I should be used to the size as every book in the series is close to five hundred pages or over. Another fact is sometimes the detail. It can get a little too much, though that comes back to the size of the novel. Now don’t get me wrong I really do like the series, it can just get overwhelming with all the stories that are happening in the book.

So within this story the primary characters were Trez and his brother iAm. Although the rest of the brotherhood played a big part of the book, along with some of the enemies. Each of them have their own part in this story but it is all related to each other. I found that in the past couple books when the shadows were written in I wasn’t really all in to it. I liked just reading about the brotherhood and their enemies. I liked these shadows but I still prefer the brotherhood.

I liked Trez’s story, though it was hard to get to the end as you knew there would be a tragedy at the end. But because of that ending a happy ending occurred for another. I just hope that Ward will make sure those who sacrificed their happiness gets their own happy ending in another book.

I will follow up on the fourteenth book later on but I am switching to the spin off series Black Dagger Legacy. I will be reading Blood Kiss next.

Three Little Words

Three Little WordsIsabel Beebe was back in Fool’s Gold but only for a short time to help out in the store and get a little more money. She had plans to go back to New York and start a store. Isabel was not prepared for Ford to be living in the rental above her or having a chance to explore those feelings that had never left.

Ford Hendrix was back in his home town and not looking forward to his mother and her ways of trying to find him a date. Ford will ask Isabel for help on being his fake girlfriend. Soon things will start to heat up but when a relationship starts to form Ford wants to run as he is not ready.

Three Little Words is the thirteenth book from Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold series. I had been waiting to read this book as from the others Ford’s name had been mentioned. I was surprised as it was split up with his brother Kent who was another main character. Back to Ford he was one you wanted to have your back and one in your bed as he was no slouch. He was a dangerous man who was adjusting to civilian life and was not doing the best he could. I liked that it took Isabel to help him open up and have a relationship even if it was pretend. Now Isabel was the girl you wanted to have that happy ending with Ford. She kept getting stepped over for different possibilities. A happy ending does happen but it will take a person to nudge Ford into the right direction.

The other main characters were Kent and Consuelo. Kent was mentioned earlier in the series like his brother but it was now that we really got to know him. Consuelo we learned about in the last book but once again you learn more detail about her. They are complete opposites which works for them. Consuelo seemed very real with her intense background and trouble getting back to normal. Kent might not have been perfect with muscles but he was real.

So between the two couples written into this book there is a lot of steamy sex and lots of sexual tension. Ford is proficient with his strategy with Isabel in the bedroom. Kent and Consuelo are pretty much the same when written about.

There is a sappy but well meaning ending that wraps up everything perfectly. I am used to these endings since starting the series but I also like them. I want my hero and heroine to have a happy ending because throughout the book they punish themselves with all their own tragedies they have to conquer.

Christmas on 4th Street is next on my pile to read.

The Truth About Love

The Truth About LoveGerrard Debbington only wanted to paint the exclusive gardens of Lord Tregonning but could not unless he painted the mans daughter portrait. Gerrard did not want to but conceded and walked in on much more than a simple portrait.

Jacqueline Tregonning was told that she was to sit for a portrait. She knew that her father did not want the portrait for obvious reasons. He wanted the artist to paint her to show her innocence from the crime everyone thought she had done.

The Truth About Love is the thirteenth book to Stephanie Lauren’s Cynster series. I liked this book. There was more of a mystery going on that intrigued me to continue. I thought why would everyone assume a young woman would be able to lift up their own mother and toss her over the wall which she was killed. I liked reading about the revealing of the mystery and Laurens does it well with giving clues but keeping this mystery a mystery until close to the end.

Gerrard was not the average painter which I liked. He wasn’t self obsessed and was a good man. He was also a seducer but didn’t make that his job until it came to Jacqueline. His attraction to her is quick and intense but it is not all about that with Laurens. She writes a mystery of murder and a good who done it plot. I liked Jacqueline for the most part but wonder why she did not fight a little harder for people to believe she was not the murder.

I had wondered how in the beginning of the series Laurens would keep writing the series once the set of Cynster cousins were through. I do like that she continues the series with those related to the wives who married the Cynsters, like Gerrard who is the brother to Patience. Patience is the wife of Vane Cynster. Laurens keeps a family tree so far with every book that I have read which is useful since the family keeps branching off.

The next book is What Price Love?

Wild About You

Wild About YouHoward Barr has some trouble ahead from the newly matchmaking vampire, Shanna when she learns who his celebrity crush is, but there is more. Howard will find out the man he thought was dead is very much alive. He will find a new way to seek his revenge on the man that destroyed his life.

Elsa Bjornberg and her crew travel the world fixing up houses for their tv show. She loves her work but at times hates her nickname. She wants to be cherished and not just be with one of the guys. She will soon meet a man that makes her feel small in Howard but there will be more to this man.

Kerrelyn Sparks newest book, Wild About You, in number thirteen to the Love at Stake series. With every book you are brought back into this world of vampires and were-animals. These books can be read on their own but its best to start at the beginning as you will get to know the character much better, like Howard. He was there since the beginning and over time in the books he was more or less overlooked until the twelfth book. In Wild About You Sparks brings in something new with guardians and magic which have not been really talked about. I thought it was a great add and gave something more for Howard and Elsa. Now Elsa was an fantastic character. I loved her description by Sparks. She is the ultimate amazon woman but with unknown power. Sparks does a good job at explaining about the guardians and the legend. There is also a twist involved which ties the whole story and legend together. Now lets not forget about the bad guys which is really Rhett and his minions. After the last book I had a feeling he wasn’t done. Sparks explains the feud for Howard and Rhett well never explaining the whole thing at once, she breaks it down slowly.

Wild About You was another well done, fun, quirky and passion filled novel from Kerrelyn Sparks leaving me to wonder who is going to be next in the series?

Highland Avenger

The thirteenth book of the Murray Family series is Highland Avenger by Hannah Howell.

Arianna Murray Lucette has been married for several years in a lie with verbal abuse everyday of her marriage, but now she is free. Though freedom is not so easy for Arianna as she is soon on the run with her husbands illegitimate children to the outside world. She will find sanctuary in the arms of a man that will make her believe that love is possible.

Sir Brian MacFingal will find a woman he thinks is dead but soon finds out she is alive and not alone. He will rescue Arianna and her two wards from the danger that awaits her from her husbands clan. Brian will protect her body with his own and try to heal the wounds that are on the inside of Arianna while trying hard not to fall in love.

I thought it pretty amazing how Hannah Howell created the series as this family could go on and on, and I have a feeling she is not going to stop anytime soon. I liked this story as it went back to an enemy the Murray’s had been fighting over time but its been a while since they were spoken.

The main characters were fun to read about and I like how Howell brings in Arianna’s family to be the protective type. Our main man Brian plays the same role as many of the men of Howell’s series where they don’t understand what they are throwing away. Of course a happy ending will find its way to the pages.

I wonder now which Murray will have their story told.

Born To Bite

Lucky thirteen book goes to Armand the man who has had the worst luck when it comes to wives.

Armand Argeneau has loved one woman but unfortuantly she met an untimely death after their son was born. Armand had not been lucky to find another lifemate but married two more times as a pregnancy occurred and soon after another untimely death. Armand has kept himself locked up away from his family to avoid anymore deaths. Now he is faced with another lifemate and accidents start up again as the investigation if brought forward.

Eshe d’Aureus is an enforcer and is good at her job. She had the chance at a lifemate and spent many years with each other. Now he is gone and Eshe was surprised to find herself connecting with another. The problem was he was someone she was investigating. Eshe made it her duty to prove that Armand had nothing to do with the murders. She will search for her answer but the closer she gets the closer she is to her own death as accidents keep coming her way.

I found myself really liking the characters of Eshe and Armand in Born To Bite. It seemed simple how they connected as they each already had a lifemate. I loved Eshe’s brazen and carefree attitude but wouldn’t take any b.s. Then Armand with his simple ways and his quiet passion until of course it is released by his lifemate.

Lynsay Sands wrote this story well when it came time for suspense in the book. I had a feeling I knew the person doing the attacking but it did not make sense with the rest of the woman who were killed. Of course nothing is ever as easy as it seems. Sands will weave in several twists within the story only to give a conclusion to the person behind the murders, Nicholas his freedom and Armand some peace.

I found that after this book I am drawing closer to the end of the series well at least the end of what Sands has written and available for the public. But I wonder when Justin Bricker will have his shoot at a lifemate. I like his character and can’t help but want him to find that happiness that is surrounding everyone else.

Now the next book, Hungry For You, will star Alexandra Willan who is  Sam’s sister and maybe we will have Sam making the decision to change once her sisters have now found their lifemates.
