Gideon Harrow needed to get a necklace which will lead him to Lady Susanna Derring. From there everything goes wrong. All he wanted was the necklace but will be blackmailed into taking Susanna on an adventure. The adventure will get interrupted as Gideon has enemies who are after him.
Lady Susanna Derring wanted to have an adventure, to know love and to be free. She will get a chance when she meets Gideon though it will be more than she had bargained for as she will find herself on the run from several bad guys.
The Rogue You Know is the second book to the Covent Garden Cubs by Shana Galen. I really liked this book. As I started the book I was immediately pulled into the story and before I knew it the story was over.
I really liked Gideon’s character. I liked him pretty much right from the start when I read the first book and I liked him more in the second book. He was a good man, it just happened that he had a lifetime of bad role models. Gideon wants more but he is too afraid to reach for what he wants. Susanna’s character was a quiet girl but that was because of her upbringing. I liked that she broke away and wanted that adventure. Of course that adventure will turn very bad as Gideon was running from men who wanted him dead and Susanna gets dragged into that mess. I liked that she didn’t back done or run away crying. She braved through the situation with Gideon.
The mother of Susanna was someone that I didn’t really like nor did I dislike. Well I thought she was a little hard on her daughter but she had her reasons. I had guessed the reason as it was predictable but I thought Galen wrote the mother’s scenes well.
I will be finishing off the series with the third book but I haven’t gotten it yet as it just came out. Though I will be getting it soon, at least I hope.
Ian Mackenzie and his family were first to arrive at Hart’s home for Christmas time. Ian will be woken abruptly from sleep. Quietly he will investigate only to find burglars in Hart’s home. Ian will be unable to stop the men but he would not rest until he found these men.
A Mackenzie Clan Gathering is a novella in the Mackenzie/Highland Pleaures by Jennifer Ashley. This novella is number 7.5 in the series. I really loved this novella.
I loved that Jennifer Ashely brings back the Mackenzie family for these gatherings. Of course the main focus was Ian and his family which I didn’t mind, as Ian is still one of my favorites. Now this story had some mystery to it with these burglars who had taken the items. You wonder who was the villain but that mystery will only be solved with Ian’s ability to solve problems.
So there was an added part to this story that was interesting. Ashely wrote in Beth’s brother in law who had come to help cure Ian from his madness. I thought it was interesting with how the brother in law was trying to help but I couldn’t help but feel that this was wrong. I loved Ian’s character because of how he was different, and anyways he had been getting better because of Beth and his children.
Well I am done with the series at least for now. There is only one more book to read in the series which will take you to the Mackenzie’s past with Malcolm Mackenzie. I will be reading this book but a little later.
Sinclair McBride was a skilled barrister and took his job seriously. He had little time for anything but his job, even his children. His children were known to run wild and go through governess’s. Sinclair will find a solution has fallen into his lap when Bertie agreed to be the governess.
Roberta “Bertie” Frasier was from the gutters of England and was a thief. She will quickly find herself going from thief to governess as she will be hired by Sinclair McBride, a man she had tried to steal from. Though Bertie will find that she wouldn’t just be a governess but also the woman for Sinclair.
Rules for a Proper Governess is the seventh book to the series Mackenzies/Highland Pleasures. I really loved this book. I was swept right into the story.
Bertie’s character was lovable. She had a goodness about her even though she was a thief. She wanted to be better, always tried to help and cared greatly. Sinclair was a man that was drifting through life but he will get an awakening when Bertie comes into his life. I liked that he started to loosen up and had become the man he used to be.
The lust between the two of them was steamy and very passionate, and there was a lot of sex. I don’t think those scenes overwhelmed the book but they were very present. It made sense with Sinclair as he had been a man that had run wild. He let himself live again with Bertie.
I loved the children, Andrew and Cat. They were adorable and starved for attention for their father. They will get along with Bertie because she takes the time to get to know them. If Jennifer Ashley keeps writing the series I hope she will will write some stories on the children of these McBrides and Mackenzies.
I have only one more to read which is The Mackenzie Clan Gathering.
Marlowe was one of the best thieves in London. Though Marlowe will soon discover that she might not be who she was, she might be a lady. A Bow Street Runner and an Earl will take her and prepare her to meet her possible parents. Marlowe will be scared to step into this strange new world of well dressed ladies and gentleman but more scared that she was not the little girl and she was to be sent back to the gutters.
Earls Just Want to Have Fun is the first book to the series Covent Gardens Cubs by Shana Galen. I have not read anything from Galen before and if her books are like this I will definitely be trying them. I really liked this book. It was very entertaining to read. A kidnapping story is in noway original but with how Galen wrote the story and her characters she made me want to continue the story.
Marlowe’s character was interesting. She was the perfect thief but due to some memories she wondered if her past was not how she was told. I liked that Marlowe will try to be more as she knows the life she leads will get her killed. Max’s character, who was the Earl, was a little stuck up but as you got to know him better throughout the book he is not that stuck up. After that I did like him and thought he was doing his best to help while trying not to be attracted to Marlowe which of course he found difficult.
The villain is clearly Satin who is the leader of thieves. He is ruthless and vindictive, and he was the reason Marlowe became who she was. I liked how Galen deals with Satin at the end.
So, there are two more book in the series which will feature Max’s siblings. One is already out while the other is coming in March.
Marcus Kane, Lord Chadwick, has been on many missions and wondered if it was time to give it up. Though he will accept the mission that his old friends offers him. Marcus doesn’t like the idea that he will have a partner, but this partner will intrigue him, and everyday he is close to Fantine he wants her more and more.
Fantine (Fanny) Delarive plays a role. Some days she will be known as Rat, a barmaid, or a servant. Her latest role will be playing the lady she should have become. She will help a lord who is trying to change England in a good way but she wouldn’t be alone in her mission. She will have Marcus right at her side.
No Place for a Lady is the first book to the series Regency Rags to Riches by Jade Lee. I really liked this novel.I don’t always like spy stories but this one intrigued me, especially the characters.
Fantine’s character intrigued me right away with her double identity. I liked that she had so many identities she used in order to survive on the streets. For all the hardship I wanted Fantine to give in and just ask for help but you knew that was not her. Her character was very strong when she was faced with hardship but when it came to matters of the heart she is vulnerable. Then there is Marcus who was a lord, but also a spy. He was a little stuck up but that was due to his upbringing. I liked that he changed to become less stressed and that happened because of Fantine.
The mission to save one of the lords was well done. There was some underhanded characters stopping them along with some betrayals and a couple of twists.
Asher Cordell has lived a life of crime to help support his family. He will be be ready to walk the straight and arrow but he will do one last theft which will have him finding Juliana in the same study searching Ormsby desk. He is intrigued with why Juliana was searching in the study and when asked to help he does not hesitate.
Juliana Greeley was desperate to find her sisters letters in Ormsby study. She will not get the chance as he had followed her into the room but Asher who had already been in there saved her by hiding her. She will enlist the help of Asher to find the letters which will lead them down a dangerous path.
Passion Becomes Her is the fourth book from the series Becomes Her by Shirlee Busbee. Another great book from the author.
I was right about the gentleman from the previous book who had abducted Isabel being the main character in this book. You know got to know his identity and more about this thief who was not a terrible man, he did what he had to do for his family. Juliana was very much the same way as she was doing what she could for her family who was being blackmailed, really her younger sister who was being blackmailed. She was brave to take upon the task but will find help from her old friend, Asher. Between these two characters there will be plenty of passion that is explosive with them and love will quickly blossom between as they band together to stop the blackmailer.
The villain is obliviously the blackmailer, who is Ormsby. He is a vile man who only wants what he wants and will do whatever he needs to get what he wants. There will be more to him but it is not to make him look good, in fact he will be viewed even worse if that was possible. I liked the twist that Busbee gives which will lead to another twist in the book that will bring forward a realization of a truth that had been hidden.
Laura Falkner is back in London after her fathers death. She is determined to find out who murdered him and find out the real thief of the diamond necklace that was thought to have been stolen by her father. She will disguise herself in order to find out the truth but will find herself face to face with the man she loved years ago who was also the one to turn her father in to the police.
Alexander Ross, Earl of Copley, never thought he would see Laura Falkner. He knew that she had no trust in him since he turned in her father but Alex still wanted her. He will find a way to keep her at his side and to keep those secrets he was holding from her hidden. But the more time he spends with her, he wonders if he could have been mistaken.
Stroke of Midnight is the second book to the series Cinderella Sisterhood by Olivia Drake. As a follow up book to the series I thought this was absolutely great. I really like this series so far and can’t wait to read more of the series.
Laura was strong for what she had to go through. I also liked that she was playing detective with finding out who was the real thief and there were certainly several prospects that she had thought could have been the culprits. Alex is a good man trying to do right by his godmother who wanted his help but it ruined his chance with the one that he could have easily loved. I liked that he gets his second chance but he still botches it. He botches it up with the secrets he was holding and I knew that would be a factor in the downfall. Though remember this is a romance book so our characters will prevail and get the bad guy in the end.
The book holds some twists and mystery to the story which I liked. The several culprits that were thought about by Laura were definitely who I thought were the bad guys but I was wrong. I was surprised by one of the secrets that was shared which immediately zeroed in on the true bad guy.
Lady Milford is back with the glass slippers. She arranges Laura to be in the home of Alex’s aunt which starts back the attraction and secrets that are bound to come out. Of course the slippers will once again be taken and now there will be no doubt that Lady Milford will be in the third book. I am going to wait to read the third book because I want to read the fourth book right after, which comes out in November of this year.
Charlotte Fallon was considered a spinster and one with a reputation that could not be fixed thanks to her past. She will be thrust into a new scandal thanks to her sister who will flee her potential new lover for the man that wants to marry. Charlotte will be told to be the substitute mistress. Charlotte will not agree but before she can tell Sir Michael Bayard she will be swept up into a life of pleasure.
Sir Michael Bayard had lusted after his soon to be mistress and cannot wait to make her his own. Michael will find his lusty mistress but will be shocked to find that she is not the sister he paid for. Michael will be furious at the deceit but he cannot dismiss Charlotte from his life, that is until a part of his past comes to make trouble.
Mistress by Mistake is the first book to Maggie Robinson’s series Courtesan Court. Alright now she is still a very new author and from the last book I read I figured I would like this story. Now I really did like the book but for me it was a rough beginning as it was a little absurd with how they acted and the situation. The book gets better and I find myself turning each page to the end to find out what will happen to these two, the sister and this crazy ex wife.
I got to like the characters of Charlotte and Michael throughout the book and wanted them to find that happiness with each other. Now the romance between them is nothing but sex and they are very compatible in that aspect.
You saw the villain coming and I was kind of shocked at the scene towards the end where Michael is the one in trouble. I wasn’t so sure I was okay that the person involved wasn’t really punished but at least Robinson gave Michael and Charlotte a chance. Robinson wraps up Charlotte and Michael’s story and I can see myself going after more from the author.
Nick Gentry was born into a well standing family but it quickly was lost when his parents died. He became a rebellious child falling into the wrong crowd leading him to be one of the better thief takers of the area. Nick will find himself being turned to a new man as a Bow Street Runner thanks to his brother-in-law. The one thing that Nick will find missing is a woman he could call his own and he finds that with Charlotte.
Miss Charlotte “Lottie” Howard has runaway from her intended fiancee as she can not bear to have him touch her or order her around like she was his property. Lottie will think she is safe but will find herself being found by a Bow Street Runner who will have his own solution to her problem of her intended.
Worth Any Price is the third book to Bow Street Runners series from Lisa Kleypas. This is the last book to the series and wraps it up nicely giving Nick a second chance at a life.
I was fascinated with this man who was a thief but nobleman at the same time. He was not as cruel or vindictive as you might think, but that is because his past in the prison still haunts him at what he had seen. He was a character that I wanted to have a second chance at to finding love and moving on with his life. He is hesitant at returning to his old life with a title but with Charlotte he will have a good chance at succeeding. Now Charlotte’s character was not foolish or really naive instead she was a brave woman fleeing from a life she knows would eventually kill her spirit. She is a brave woman as well for pairing up with Nick who she will find appealing but dangerous at the same time.
The villain is the aged suitor who has been pursuing Charlotte for most of her life. He was a little perverse and demanding but I almost want to say that her parents were the true villain letting her be traded with this man for wealth.
As I have now finished this series I am going on to Lisa Kleypas series Hathaways.
Lady Sophia wanted to get close to the man, Sir Ross Cannon, as he was responsible for taking the last thing in her life she loved. Sophia would resort to seduction but will find herself falling in love.
Sir Ross Cannon was used to finding criminals and putting them away, and living a solitude life. That will all change when he hires Sophia as his assistant. He will fight the attraction but not hard as he will be leading her to his bed. Ross will however know that she is not being truthful and will be in search to find what she is hiding.
Lady Sophia’s Lover is the second book to Bow Street Runners series from Lisa Kleypas. I had to wait a day to read this book as my book clubs choice had to come first since I was going there to discuss but now I am back with Lisa Kleypas and this story like the first was a book I loved reading.
Sir Ross Cannon who is in charge of the runners will have his chance in the spotlight and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed his story. He was a man who followed by the rules and seemed cold almost voided of emotion. It was because of his first wives death but Sophia will awaken what had been sleeping inside him. He might have been a little rough around the edges at times but it never seemed that way with Sophia. He treated her with respect, lust and of course love. Though it was hard because she kept things from him. Sophia hid her revenge from Ross as she was out to get him, to hurt him. Now there will be that turning point that has Sophia changing her mind about all that she thought about her revenge and what was true. It will certainly help that between them a passion comes alive.
I enjoyed the twists that Kleypas placed in the book. Incidentally they both related to Sophia. One about her need for revenge which I didn’t really see coming until she uncovered her hatred. That comes forward pretty quickly in the book so it wasn’t a big twist but it certainly changed things. Now the other big one is someone who will be uncovered. They will come forward and reveal their identity that was surprising but secretly I was hoping this plot twist would happen.
I have one more book to get through for the Bow Street Runners series then I am off to another one of her series.
