Stephen Crenshaw, Marquess of Dunwich, was back in England after several years away as a soldier. He had been a rake back then but he has changed. He knew what was important and that was getting the woman he had loved back.
Lady Faith Westover, daughter of the Duke of Strathmore, had loved Stephan. She was blinded to his rakish ways but when he had left her eyes had been open. Now with Stephan back Faith will try to keep away but he wouldn’t let her, not until she forgave him.
Once a Scoundrel is the fourth book from the series The Secret Life of Scoundrels by Anna Harrington. I really enjoyed this novella. It was short and straight to the point. The novella covered a lot, a betrayal, love, second chances, rumors, and friendship.
Faith’s character had been hurt by the man she loved and wasn’t ready to forgive and forget. Her betrayal was understandable. I think the betrayal might have been a little over dramatic, though nothing annoying. I thought Faith was a refreshing young lady with a good head on her shoulders and now was guarded with her heart. Stephan will find a way to her heart but it will be Faith to make the ultimate decision. Stephan’s character had changed, and changed for the better. I liked that he truly did change and it wasn’t a facade in order to get what he wanted. He was sincere and filled determined to do right in his life. I liked that he had to work to get what he wanted.
Christopher Argent was an assassin to higher but he would never kill children. He never misses but Christopher will miss this time. He will not kill Millie but save her from the man who had hired him. Christopher will have to find out the true person behind the contract while he keeps Millie and her son safe.
Millicent LeCour “Millie” was an actress and one who was very talented. She will be known to all the gentleman as unattainable but there will be one, Christopher, who will make her want more. Millie will have to think about her son but will quickly realize that she will need Christopher in order to keep her son alive.
The Hunter is the second book to the series Victorian Rebels by Kerrigan Byrne. I really liked this book. Like the first one it was darker, not the romantic story where the couple have no big issues. Byrne writes about assassins, actresses, and murder.
As said the story is darker and that is mainly because of Christopher’s character. He was severally traumatized which made him into a fighter then killer. Christopher is not so damaged that he can’t be saved even if he thinks it is too late. I liked Christopher because he spoke the truth, it might have been cruel but that was his way. I also liked that he struggled. When he was going to hurt Millie he had to stop because he knew it was wrong. Millie’s character was predictable with her story line but I didn’t mind it that much because I wanted to read about her. Millie had a mask of emotion that she wore and unless she was with her son or even Christopher it was always guarded. I liked that Christopher made her feel safe even though he was the assassin coming to end her life.
The bad guys were plenty and the ultimate one that was behind it all was a surprise but it made sense. The next story is with Mena, who is mentioned in this book, and that book came out this August which I will be reading next.
Josephine Carlisle is the adopted daughter a baron and because of that circumstance her suitors were limited. Josie cared little for that until she spots a man that has her stopping in her tracks.
Thomas Matteson, Marquess of Chesney, was a spy for the War Office but he had been forced to retire after an attack. Thomas wanted nothing more than to get back to being a spy, and he might get that chance by doing a job. Thomas will jump at the chance but he will find problems with the job especially when it leads him to Josie.
How I Married a Marquess is the third book to the series The Secret Life of Scoundrels by Anna Harrington. I really liked this book. For me I think this one was my favorite and it is mainly because of Josie.
Josie’s character was a surprise. First off she is the adopted daughter of a baron which is a situation I don’t read too much in historical romances. I liked Josie’s spirit. She was independent, knew her own mind, and was determined to do what needed to be done. Now Josie has a secret that leads her into trouble but she does what she needs to do so she can help others. Thomas’s character was broken. He was a spy but that was taken from him when he was injured. I liked that he felt a peace with Josie. Now Thomas is anything but perfect. He does a lot of wrong things before he does the right thing especially when it comes to Josie.
Harringotn will give an epilogue which for me ended the the story perfectly.
Major Nathaniel Grey is a man that does what he wants and when he wants, but when his best friend is injured he will drop everything and come to his side. Grey will be tasked to bring home Thomas’s sister, Emily, and Grey will stop at nothing until he accomplishes that task. Grey will be shocked by Emily as she was not the girl he had remembered.
Emily remembered a time when she was young and foolish, and helplessly in love with her brother’s best friend. With marriage Emily changed and had become harder especially with the accidents that kept happening around her. Emily will want to get away but Grey will make it difficult for her to leave his side.
Along Came a Rogue is the second book to the series The Secret Life of Scoundrels by Anna Harrington. I really liked this book.
Nathaniel is a womanizer but he was one you still liked because he drops everything to help a friend. I wanted Nathaniel to find that happiness and to trust another. I liked that he did drop down his guard to truly start to care. I liked how Nathaniel is persistent and does not give up. Emily’s character was a young woman who was in trouble but she was doing the best that she could in her situation. I liked that she was a fighter but that made her heart harden. Letting others in was harder for her. She will have a chance with Nathaniel but she has to let herself love again and to trust.
The person behind the accidents is pretty easy to guess but there will be a surprise regarding the person who is helping the villain.
