Gillian’s Island

Gillian's IslandGillian Marlboro is the maid of honor in her sisters wedding. Gillian loves her sister and wishes her the best but it was a lot of work. Gillian was looking forward to relaxing on the boat but things will get dangerous when a storm will have them stranded on the island. Gillian was scared but she had Jamie to help her get through the worst of it.

Jamie Foster was the best man in the wedding. He was envious of his best friend and wanted that happy ending. When he meets Gillian he hopes that there could be more but was insecure as he was very smart and not fun like his frat brothers. Jamie will be surprised when Gillian will want him but he will have other things on his mind, like how to survive.

Gillian’s Island is the second book to Sex, Lies & Wedding Cake series by Cat Johnson. I liked this novella and unlike the first story in the series this one had more detail and I felt that this was a complete story. Now did I love it, no, but it was a good quick read and very steamy.

Gillian’s character was the responsible one and I liked that she stepped out of her comfort zone and took a chance with Jamie. She was the opposite of the wedding party but she was like Jamie at least with being responsible. Jamie was very smart and not that frat boy like his friends. He would be the guy that you would want on a stranded island.

The scenes between Gillian and Jamie were pretty intense and very steamy. Though what else would happen when a group of people were stranded on an island.

I am reading the third and final story of the series next.

Mystical Warrior

Mystical WarriorTrace Hunstman was looking for peace that would not happen as Fiona was forced by her brothers to move into his empty apartment. He did not want to take care of Fiona but soon found that ignoring her would be impossible. She was rearranging his stuff and getting into his head. The more time he spent with her the more he started to care and when trouble comes he will stop at nothing to protect this woman.

Fiona Gregor was back in human form and not liking the change but it was something she had to deal with. She was starting to adjust to living in her own place but things were still too new and there was the fact that her landlord intimidated her. Fiona knew he would not hurt her but that did not mean she wanted things to happen between them. Of course now she was becoming a modern woman and would take charge of her own life even if she would be taking a leap into the unknown with Trace.

Out of all the books of the series Midnight Bay I have to say that I really liked Mystical Warrior. This looks to be like the last book of the series but Chapman already set up the next one which follows Mac in Spellbound Falls series. I will have to say I warmed up to Mac in this third book and look forward to finding out what will happen with his deadline. So back to Mystical Warrior I really liked the byplay that happened with Fiona and Trace. Even with a realm of supernatural surrounding the book it seemed real with how this woman was to feel. You feel bad for her and find triumph when she lets herself enjoy her new life. Trace was a bad ass and one with a temper but it fit well into the book. There was humor throughout the book especially with what a woman was supposed to do according to Fiona’s brothers. There was also the steady supply of magic throughout the book and I really liked that Trace already knew about magic which moved the story right along.

Chapman sets up the next series with Mac but I wonder what will happen with Gabriella and will her future involve Rick? There story might come a little later as she is only seventeen but I hope Chapman writes one for her. Maybe this will happen in Spellbound Falls series which I will definitely have to try.

Moonlight Warrior

Moonlight WarriorEve Anderson has been dumped by her ex husband and kicked out of her house now along with her mother, but things are starting to change as the man who bought her house is giving her a way to stay. Eve does not want to trust this man as she has been burned before. She will let him in but everything is not completely normal especially with the supposed existence of William the dragon who is making friends with her mother.

Kenzie Gregor has a second chance as a mortal man and he will not waste it. He will use his time to help others like him but he will soon find a new challenge with ignoring the woman who is living in his house. Kenzie will want to protect Eve and help her out along with her mother but things will get complicated as strange storms are starting and William is causing trouble as he makes appearances in the town.

For a couple of years I have ventured away from Janet Chapman as there are so many authors I want to try but with several books of hers to read on my book stand I am ready to read her stories. I started with a series Midnight Bay and the first book is Moonlight Warrior. I have to say when I started it I felt it was in mid story. It bugged me a while as Kenzie kept referencing this family that sounded familiar. I looked to her sight and then remembered reading the sixth book of the Pine Creek Highlander, which put everything into place. I know that I will now have to find the first book of that series as I was going to do a couple years ago. This will be my goal for 2013.

Going back to Moonlight Warrior I really loved the playful feel the characters had with each other. The story was lighthearted and had some quick wit sifting through the pages. There was a seriousness with the highlanders finding a way to break the curse but I felt I was more involved with the characters themselves. I found it comical with the way Kenzie thought woman should be and act which makes sense as he is from the very distant past. Eve was bitter yes from her divorce but she was a fighter which fitted well with all the other women in the book.

With magic at times it does get a little confusing at times but for the most part you are thoroughly entertained and enchanted by the highlanders and the series does not stop as William has the chance to live in Dragon Warrior.
