Compelled

CompelledWhen Raphael was released from Mathilda’s magical cuffs, Cyn made a promise to Nick that she would help find them. Cyn will be confused about Nick as everything she knew about him had been a lie, but a promise was a promise. Cyn, Raphael and Nick will search together to find the magical cuffs which will lead them to a dangerous collector.

Compelled is a novella, number 10.5, to the series Vampires in America by D.B Reynolds. This one took a turn and was focused more on magic with Nick as a sorcerer, which was interesting. I liked this one, did not love it, but certainly liked it.

I suppose I am biased because I don’t want someone coming in between Cyn and Raphael. Nick was very flirty with Cyn and I was happy that she was in no way reciprocating those flirts. Cyn’s heart belongs to Raphael. I was happy to read that he really did not want to get back with Cyn since they were really never together but he was lonely. Nick’s character does get better towards the end of the novella. He is still sarcastic but he is changed as he was determined to change.  I will admit the story with his warriors was interesting, this also brings in four more stories that D.B. Reynolds will be writing. There are two of those stories already written for two of the warriors. I do hope that Nick will find his own person to love especially if he has been alone for thousands of years and I would like to know more about Nick and his powers. Also the war between sorcerers and vampires.

The collector was the dangerous element of the book. He was a interesting bad guy but it was a very short scene as it was a novella. What irked me was that Cyn has not learned to go into the dangerous places. She had caution a couple books ago but in this novella she was back to being reckless with no back up.

I am reading Lucifer next.

A Warrior’s Taking

A Warrior's TakingBrogan Mac Lochlainn has heard of the magical stone that holds great power and he now needs this as he is in charge of the protection of the clan. Brogan will travel far into the future to find that stone at Ravenfield and will find unexpected help.

Sarah Granger is the governess to her two charges and protector. On a chance walk of the beach she will find a man on the sand. Sarah will be weary of the stranger knowing there is more to his story, but will find herself melting whenever he is near.

I have tried the second book of this series Warrior by Margo Maguire and after been blown away with the plot and characters there was no doubt I would love this book, and I did. A Warrior’s Taking was a great first book to the series and started this quest of the stone out right.

Now once again it took me a moment to get into it because the magic is not something I always read about but it was well down by Maguire. I loved reading about Brogan and Sarah’s story because I already knew the outcome thanks to the ending of the second book. Brogan is the tough warrior, the older brother and has the task being put on himself. He doesn’t understand much of these people but he will find himself helping Sarah find a future. Sarah was a character that was strong to the fault and tried to protect her charges knowing that danger could fall on her doorstep.

The mystery of this magic and the enemies that follow Brogan will have an impact in the story and of course follow into the second one. I did like the idea of time traveling and how they go about finding what they need to save them.

A Warrior’s Taking is a love story that literally travels through time and a really great two part book series.

Temptation of the Warrior by Margo Maguire

From the first page of the book I wasn’t sure I would like it to be honest. Temptation of the Warrior looked to be a story in progress in the very early days. I felt like I was coming in as it was already in process and felt that I could not follow. This book is the second and final book of the series Warriors. But then you start to read more and you are traveling to the future to the nineteenth century. My interest started to peak and began to read.

Merrick Mac Lochlainn is the chieftain of his clan and must travel 1000 years in to the future to England to find the stone which would save his people. He arrives at England in the nineteenth century only to see a woman in need. He saves her only to have his head knocked. He looses his memory only to see flashes.

Jenny Keating is in trouble with these men attacking but a man comes to the rescue only to get hurt in the end. A pack of gypsy’s come and help them and Jenny lets them think that this man is her husband. She would explain to the man when he woke but she finds that he has no memory and instantly the man is tempted to lay with his wife. Jenny will have no idea what this man is after but she will be the key as they are looking for the same thing.

After getting into the story you are blown away by the characters. I loved how the plot unraveled and you got to understand the characters that much better as the story went along.

Margo Maguire creates a steamy plot and characters with Merrick and Jenny pretending to be husband and wife.  I liked that the strong warrior was at a cross roads as he did not know who he was but he knew what he felt for Jenny.

Readers will be cheering for Merrick and Jenny to stay together and to find the stone to save Merrick’s people.

Jewel of Atlantis by Gena Showalter

All Atlantis seeks the Jewel of Dunamis, which legend claims can overcome any enemy.  Grayson James, human agent of the utlrasecret Otherworld Bureau of Investigation, has orders to keep it from the wrong hands-or destroy it.  What he doesn’t know is that Jewel is a woman, not a stone!  But once he meets this precious gem, destroying her is the last thing on his mind…

Jewel, part goddess, part prophet, needs Gray’s help to win her freedom.  Gray needs her wisdom to navigate monster-ridden Atlantis. But need blossoms into passionate love as they battle demons, dragons and vampires-and fight for a future that seems impossible…

The second book to the series Atlantis is fantastic to read.  Reading the book I found it is a series but can be read out of sequence and will not get confusing.

Gray is amazing in the book with his character flaws and attributes.  Jewel is a gem, no pun meant, but she is a great character to read about.

The same sexual situations arrive and happen throughout the book for Gray and Jewel which is fun to read about.

The story line is fun and again imaginative with the world of Atlantis.  And there are some characters that are back and mentioned from the first one.  You hear about what is happening with them.

The second book, Jewel of Atlantis, was fun to read and entertaining.
