Death Angel

Death AngelDrea Rousseau was living a life she knew would end so she prepared herself. She took enough money that would keep her alive but she was not prepared for the assassin who Rafael Salinas put on her trail.

Death Angel is a novel by Linda Howard. This book was really good and it was more than it appeared to be. At first it was a survival book with Drea having to run for her life. Then a tragedy happens and a little supernatural comes into play. I thought the supernatural aspect was done well, it was just unexpected.

When I first started the book I was wondering who she would be with. I knew that this was a suspense romance so there was going to be someone Drea was going to be with. At first I thought maybe Rafael did love her but that was clearly not the case. I then thought maybe an FBI agent but instead her attention was with the assassin, well to a point. The assassin, Simon, was more than he appeared to be. You liked him but he was a bad man, then something inside him changes. I liked the change but he was still that ruthless killing machine.

I was pretty much on board throughout the entire book as it was engaging. I am on the lookout for more Linda Howard books and I am actually going to be reading another one next which is Shadow Woman.

Touch of a Thief

Touch of a ThiefLady Viola Preston carried the responsibility of taking care of her family as a jewel thief. She was good at her job but now will be stopped in a trap set by Greydon Quinn who needs the help of the jewel thief. He will give her little choice but to accept the task he thrust on to her.

Greydon Quinn has his sights set on the diamond for his friend but to retrieve it only the jewel thief, Viola would be up to that task. Quinn will find that the diamond is not the only thing he wants especially as he finds that Viola has a wanton passion to her. He will find pleasure in her arms but struggles to trust her as her history gives her no credit.

Immediately checking the back of Touch of a Thief  by Mia Marlowe I was intrigued with the concept of a thief who heard the diamonds speak to her or in this case she could feel things and if they had a past a vision would come to her. I found that Viola was a contradiction which made her fun to read about and I loved that she was a jewel thief. Then there was Quinn who carried a secret which shamed him. I had a feeling what it was and that it regarded his brother. I was right in my assumption but Marlowe does a great job at uncovering the truth with the help of Viola’s vision. Quinn was a strong character with his own self doubt which made him more human and relatable. The villain was not expected, well there was a couple villains and as a whole they were interesting to read about as the plot unfolded. I am excited to find out where this series will be going with this unique power and if it stays within the family of the Preston’s.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

I finished the movie and was in shock.  The movie was really great.  For a while there have not been too many great movies out there that interested me.  This movie did but I wasn’t sure, but after hearing a good review from those who saw the movie I went.

The movie was much better than I thought, which lead me to think what would the book be like.  I was finally able to get my hands on the book and as the last page was turned I was in awe.  The book was interesting, funny, clever, and entertaining to read.

“Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school…again.  And that’s the least of his troubles.  Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life.  And worse, he’s angered a few of them.  Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.  But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him: solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.”

“Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan is categorized as a fantasy genre and it was truly amazing to read.  The characters, plot and dialogue were well thought out and had drawn me in to find out more about the series.  So I searched my favorite site, Fantastic Fiction and looked up Rick Riordan.  I saw that there are a total of five books for Percy Jackson and will be only five in the series, which have all been written.

While I was reading I thought about the movie compared to the book but I stopped.  You can never compare the movie to the book because things are always cut out and should be thought as their own entity.  Reading the book reminded me of Harry Potter which is also the genre of Fantasy.  I guess it is because of how in each book the main character really doesn’t know where they belong in the world.  Each are different from other people.

As I read the book I loved the detail that was intertwined with the book.  The detail of the characters life; the gods, the heroes, Percy and Percy’s mom.

Some things I thought that were interesting was that Percy is only 12 years old and in the movie the kid looked 15 so I was thrown a little.  I didn’t remember the age that Percy was supposed to be in the movie.  Another interesting thing was the people from the camp didn’t exactly know who Percy’s father was.  I thought that was strange since all around him there were clues about what Percy could do with water.  Another interesting part of the book was the involvement with all the different types of mythical creators.  I liked the oracles and their mysterious messages.

This book was something very easy, fast pace thriller that is fantastic to read.  It is something different from the normal vampires and werewolves.  It was refreshing to read and I can’t wait to get the other four books.
