I am continuing the series, Roughneck Billionaires, and reading the third book Dirty Bastard by Jessica Clare, which was enjoyable.
Lexi is a struggling yoga instructor who doesn’t really like people and is very strange but likes it that way. When she meets Knox and his family she will be intrigued immediately by Knox. He alone was strange like her and she wanted to get to know him but was not sure she could let him in all the way into her life.
Knox is a billionaire along with his brothers. He is not the serious brother or the nice one. In a word he is cynical. He likes his pranks which is why he is instantly intrigued by Lexie. She is beyond sarcastic and he loves her strange behavior. She will be the first woman he actually wanted more, he just had to convince her of that.
In the second book you got to read little parts with Lexi and Knox but with their own book you really got to know the characters and they are both a piece of work. So Lexi is super sarcastic and that was shown in the second book but it is intense in the beginning of the book. At first it was a little much but I really came to love Lexi’s character and her sarcastic ways because she was more than that. Knox was a piece of work. He loved his brothers and he loved to torment them. He would steal and play pranks which was very juvenile but really worked out because it brought him closer to Lexi who was juvenile in her own ways.
The added twist with the stalker ex was interesting and it gave a little more danger in the mix.
I am waiting patiently for Gage’s story which I hope will be out soon!
Kyle Houseman was constantly on guard from his ex wife who would not leave him alone. His solution was to just give her money to make her stop harassing him. That will soon stop when he meets a woman who shows him that it was possible to move on from the only woman he had loved.
Lourdes Bennett had come to Whiskey Creek for one reason which was to write her songs for her next album. The problem was that Lourdes was heartbroken and writing was not coming easy for her, then she meets Kyle and things will change.
A Winter Wedding is the ninth book in the series Whiskey Creek by Brenda Novak. I really liked this book. I liked that it was about two characters who had their heart broken and both needed to be mended. This was not a book where the characters jumped right into bed which I appreciated because you got to know them first, and the fact that they had become friends was very sweet. They helped balance things out in each others lives.
Lourdes character was one that I easily liked. She was a small town girl trying to make a career for herself and she was not a diva. She was a down to earth character and at this point she was pretty vulnerable but she had a strength inside. That strength was helped by Kyle. So Kyle’s character was I thought of a push over. Now don’t get me wrong he was a strong guy but when it came to his ex he just gave in. Before I read this book I had read When We Touch which was when Kyle cheated on Olivia with her sister, who had become his wife. Kyle was always doing the right thing. I liked that finally in this book he was getting more of a backbone when it came to his ex wife. He was living again especially with Lourdes in the picture. There was one part in the book that had me cheering because Kyle finally gets some justice with all that had happened to him because of his ex wife.
Noelle, Kyle’s ex wife, was a piece of work. Basically from the entire series she had been nothing but trouble. In this book it was like she went crazy. She will do a lot of harm to those around her and personally I was happy with her ending. There was one thing that bugged me with how Olivia forgave Noelle especially since she had stolen Kyle, but I guess that was how Olivia operated and it had been five years.
I have one more book left to read in my pile for Brenda Novak which will be the tenth book, Discovering You, and I am reading that one next.
Ria Parkar was known as the Ice Princess. Ria had made herself distant from everyone else but now she was coming home for her cousins wedding. She wanted to be there but that meant she would see Vikram, the boy whose heart she had broken.
Vikram Jathar had loved Ria but then she had betrayed him. When Vikram sees Ria he will be angry as all those feelings come back to the surface. He will try to keep his distance but it will be a losing battle.
The Bollywood Bride is the second book to the series Bollywood by Sonali Dev. Like the first, I loved this book. Sonali Dev really integrates the culture and traditions well throughout the book. I wanted to find out all that was hidden in the past and to find out the real reasons why the characters were a shell of themselves.
Ria’s character was a young woman who had gone through a big trauma at a young age. You don’t know everything until later one. At first I thought Ria truly was an ice princess from how she handled things ten years ago, but I had a feeling she was not that cruel. Ria’s true self is discovered and your heart breaks for her as she is just a shell of herself. Vikram’s character was intentionally cruel to Ria and its because he felt betrayed. There is logic to that but I wanted him to at least move on and make a fresh start. I get my wish but the future is complicated for these two characters that is until everything gets out onto the table and they take a chance.
I really wanted something to be done about Vikram’s mother but I guess that would have put too much strain on the characters. I liked that he was standing up to her and taking a chance with Ria once again.
So Sonali Dev third book has come out in September and I will be reading that next but I am hesitant. It is with Nic and Jen who were in this book and are the ones that are getting married. It seems in the next book a tragedy will happen that break up the couple forever. Well I will find out more as I read the book next.
Grey Kingston had wanted fame and fortune and he got that but now he wanted more. He wanted the girl he had left behind. Grey knew that he had to prove to Avery that they could make it which was hard when his manager and a stalker were making trouble for them.
Avery Dare had loved Grey since high school but knew that she never wanted his lifestyle. With Grey back she has hope but she will be hesitant to trust him. Though Avery will have more to deal with especially when reporters are bringing up her father’s past.
Dare to Rock is the fifth book to Dare to Love series by Carly Phillips. I really loved this book.
Avery’s character was fantastic. She is a bubbly and confident woman when she does her job but on the inside she is still scared and a girl who has panic attacks. I thought how her attacks started was so sad and I hated that it was coming back because of the reporters. Though Avery is strong and she will get through the trouble. Grey’s character was not the cliche rocker which I liked. He cared about his work and wanted what was best for his band mates. I liked that Grey had to work hard to win back Avery.
The problem that occurs are the threats that Avery receives because of some crazy fan of Grey’s. The woman is psychotic and it shows in her behavior. I thought that James gives a good twist on how this woman was so successful with her threats.
Spoiler Alert: I have made mention that I really disliked the father and the way he doesn’t inquire about Avery especially when she is threatened really pissed me off. He tells her that he is annoyed that because of her antics his past is coming back out. Though Avery will finally get through to her father. She gives him a speech that I was hoping one of the kids would give, that let him know how hurtful he has been to them. From how the father was acting towards the end I think there is a chance he will be there for all of his kids.
I am taking a very quick break for the next book but will be back. I will also be reading about the New York Dare’s in the series NY Dare to Love.
Armie Jacobson has wanted his best friends sister for many years but he has kept away. He didn’t think that he was good enough, then he will find himself playing protector to Merissa and things will start to change. He will find out that the woman he has wanted for years, wanted him as well. But there will be a problem and Armie will have to protect Merissa from being hurt when his past comes out.
Merissa “Rissy” Colter has loved Armie for years but she was always seen as a little sister. Then something changes. They will kiss and Merissa will become aware that Armie wants her, but he is still distant. Merissa will not let Armie go which means she has to pursue. Though Merissa will have a problem when accidents are happening around her and Armie’s past comes back.
Fighting Dirty is the fourth book to the series Ultimate by Lori Foster. I loved this book. So far, I’ve loved this series. Though as always I am a Lori Foster fan and I really loved that she went back to the stories with fighters, like the ones in SBC Fighters series. In this one she even brings back several of the main characters from the SBC Fighters series and Jude from the book Jude’s Law.
Alright, so Armie’s character is fantastic. He was not your typical hero. He was loud and known for his sexual exploits. But then he worked for kids and was sympathetic towards them. He was someone you could count on. Merissa was a woman who did the right thing and was just living her life. I liked Merissa but I wanted her to either take the chance and get closer to Armie or step away. Well she does take that step with Armie which I loved. Together they were perfect for each other because they completed each other. Armie was not that outrageous and Merissa was not that shy.
The problems that occurred were due to Armie’s past and Merissa’s. Armie’s past I had wondered about since the beginning of the series. I had a couple guesses and one of them turned out right. I liked that Foster will resolve the issue which helps Armie move on. Merissa’s problems weren’t from that long ago in the past, more towards the present. I thought that the problems they faced were well developed and it made me want to know more.
Lori Foster is continuing with the series but the next book comes out in January of 2017. So I have a bit of a wait but I have no doubt I will enjoy it.
Manda Munroe was privileged and had been a spoiled young woman but she had changed when the man she loved was killed in a car accident. Tragedy will follow her until her brother hires a bodyguard who will marry Manda to draw out the stalker.
Hunter Whitelaw had been friends with the Munroe’s for years. He will receive a call from his friend Perry who was asking for help. Hunter will readily agree to act as bodyguard and husband to Manda so he can stop her stalker.
Whitelaw’s Wedding is the fourteenth book from the series Protectors by Beverly Barton. I was surprised by this book. There was more to this book than it appeared to be. First thoughts were that it was going to be a romance between a spoiled girl and seriously gorgeous man. Well Hunter is described as big and gorgeous but he was also filled with mistrust. Not so much that he would not be able to be with another woman but I would say that his ego was bruised. Now Manda had grown up from her spoiled ways. She had learn hardship and heartbreak and there was a fear that followed her.
Thoughts on who the person could be were several people. I was actually nearing down the suspect and thought that I had guessed right but I was wrong. I should’ve realized that my guess was too obvious. You had to look a little more closer to discover the person that did not want Manda to have any happiness.
I would be definitely up to reading more from Beverly Barton, either from this series or her other novels.
Eve Edens knew that her accidents weren’t just accidents but no one believed her at the police station. She will go to the one group that she knew could help her even though seeing Billy always breaks her heart. She still loves him even with twelve years between the last time they had been together.
Billy “Wild Bill” Reichert could not help be angry with the woman who had broken his heart but to see her in danger he could not just stand by. He will help her find out who is the person harassing Eve and get closer to her than he had in twelve years which will make him realize how much he still wants her.
Born Wild is the fifth book to the Black Knights Inc series by Julie Ann Walker. I was waiting for their story because I knew it was coming and although this story was predictable with certain parts of the, especially with how Eve and Billy were separated, I enjoyed the book.
Eve has been a character in the series but mostly on the side as Becky’s friend and something else when it came to Billy. I liked that Eve had progressed throughout the series and she became stronger and could stand up to those who were manipulating her. Billy was a wild card but a good guy and one who could hold a grudge. I liked that he was someone you could count on and was good at his job. Now in the midst of it all there is that sexual tension which had been there all along will explode as danger comes closer. There will be fireworks when Eve and Billy finally get to be together again after twelve years.
As I said above it was predictable with who was doing the manipulation to keep Eve and Billy apart but I was surprised with who the person was behind the attack on Eve. Walker does a good job at keeping us focused on the most likely suspect while the actual one was able to be undetected until the very end.
Well as I have now gone through five books from Julie Ann Walker I am going to take a break from the author let the books build up.
Beckett Montgomery along with his brothers and mother are restoring the historical inn that has seen plenty over the years. Beckett is the architect of the project and all he does is work on the Inn that is until he starts hanging out with the woman he has wanted since he was fifteen years old.
Clare Brewster has known love and has survived her own tragedy when her husband was killed overseas. With three little boys there was not much time for anything. She will start a relationship with Beckett all thanks to her curiosity with how the facelift of the inn was going.
The Next Always is the first book from Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy by Nora Roberts. I can rely on Roberts to give me a book that tells a story. This is a prime example as she goes into detail of the town, the Inn, then of the characters who all are described with their own flaws and background story so it feels like you know them and that they are realistic.
Beckett is kind and a loving man who has his urges which all seemed to be pointed toward Clare who was starting to accept his attention. I loved his interaction with the kids which was done perfectly. He was knight in shinning armor for Clare who needed it even though she didn’t want to admit it. Clare was a good woman and mother who was trying to get by. She gets swept up by Beckett. Of course having three kids gets difficult having a life which gives the book humor as the kids are interrupting things.
I had liked the book from the start as it was a good story then Roberts throws in a small supernatural twist with a ghost that inhabits the Inn which plays a part later in the book to help Clare. I figure the mystery of the ghost will be something that will be kept up through all three books. I am intrigued with who the woman is and why can only some see her or at least sense her thanks to the scent of honeysuckle. Then the story gets a little more meat to it with a problem that will be happening to Clare, and Beckett will be helping her along with his brothers and her friends. The intensity of the dilemma escalates rapidly once the person was identify as a problem.
I have the second and third book of the series which I will be reading next.
Traci Evans did not trust men thanks to her husband who died while cheating on her. Things will start to change when her neighbors adult son start to change her mind.
Ryan Gilmore wanted his mothers neighbor but she kept rejecting him. He will start getting her attention and sparks will fly but he will have to convince her that they are good together.
Not Even If You Begged was a book I picked up from Francis Ray. This is the fourth book to the series Invincible Women which of course I didn’t know at the time of reading the book. There are some characters like Justine and Brianna and I wonder if their story was before in the series but really this could have been read as a stand alone novel. This was a good book to read with some humor of the women from the club and there were certainly plenty of steamy scenes with the two couples that were part of the book.
What I liked about the book was that it was uplifting for these women to find love. For Traci it was to find love in the first place and for Maureen who finds it again. I liked that both these women were the focal point, Traci perhaps a little more. It could have been told with just one of the characters but with the two of them it gave a little more.
I liked Traci’s spitfire attitude but she leaves her heart out of relationships after being with Dante. It takes Ryan, a younger man, to get her to love again and to trust a man again. The story turns when a stalker is brought into the situation which is a little scary with how crazy she appears in the book. Maureen was a women who had loved but was finding it again with a man, Simon, who was ten years younger. The book was written realistically I thought with the problems these women felt who had loved and lost, and how they started to try again by living their lives.
Maggie O’Connell had a problem with a stalker who kept leaving her notes. The police did not believe her because of what she did when she was sixteen years old. She will find help from Trace Rawlins who will go on the case and find the stalker who started to become even more persistent.
Trace Rawlins knew that Maggie O’Connell would be trouble especially because she was a red head, but he took the chance anyways. Trace will find that Maggie was not lying and a stalker was finding their way to her. He would do everything he could to stop that from happening.
Against the Storm is the fourth book of Kat Martin’s Raines of Wind Canyon. This is the first book where the Raines brothers are not being featured, they are mentioned of course but are given the backseat with this novel. I really loved finding out more on Trace. Before he was a character you knew a little about but Martin goes further into his character and I loved that he had a problem with red heads except when it came to Maggie. I really liked Maggie’s character as well. She was tough on the outside but crumbling almost as the stress of this stalker was getting to her. Trace truly was the knight in shinning armor to help her.
The side story which was being told by Martin was of Ashley and Jason. Their story was cute to read as it was completely young love. I liked how their story blended well into Maggie and Trace’s.
Now the stalker was interesting as there were little surprises and you didn’t exactly know who it was going to be. Martin gives a little misdirection on who the person could be with a couple suspects.
