Dare to Surrender

Dare to SurrenderGabriel had wanted Isabella the moment he saw her but he did not take her because she was in a relationship. With her free Gabe will do what he can to entice Isabella to him.

Isabella had to get out of her relationship and she was able to but she soon found that she had no where to go. Isabella will be rescued by Gabe, the only man that had her feeling more. She wanted to take a chance with Gabe but she had to fix herself first.

Dare to Surrender is the first book to the NY Dare to Love series by Carly Phillips. I had finished the other series, well I finished all the books that were available to read, and decided I wanted more. So after reading several other books I am back with the author and I will have to say that this was really good. I think that this series will be more steamy than the other, although the others were very steamy. My thinking is because of the titles, Dare to Surrender, Dare to Submit, and Dare to Seduce. Well after reading this book I would say that the books will more than likely go into the route of dominant and submissive. I will be okay with that but I really don’t want to read about the characters really hurting each other because they feel pleasure in that.

Well like I said above this verges on the dom and sub but it wasn’t that bad. Gabe’s character liked control and it seemed that Isabella like to be submissive even if she didn’t really know it. What I liked about the book was Gabe did not force anything on Isabella. He made it all her decision, well he will be persuasive but ultimately it is her decision. Isabella’s character had lost herself in her previous relationship. I liked that she finds herself again which made her more confident. She gets her job back and little by little she is the person she had been before.

I am reading the second book next.

Shadows at Sunset

Shadows at SunsetJill Meyer and her siblings lived in the notorious house where a scandal happened years ago. They were all to live there otherwise their father would get the house, which was something they did not want to happen. Jill will come to her father to demand that her brother keeps his job but she will encounter his number two man in charge, Coltrane.

Coltrane was a man out for revenge against Jackson Meyer and that way was through the oldest daughter, Rachel Ann. Coltrane’s plan will change when certain truths will be revealed. His plan for revenge will continue though on a different path.

Shadows at Sunset is a novel by Anne Stuart. Without a doubt I loved this book. I was brought into the story and did not want to stop reading the book. It was dark and full of mystery. I find that most books I read from Stuart are not those cheerful romances. The hero is not always that hero you love. They are usually tainted but there is a some hope which makes you cheer for him. Coltrane was that kind of hero. There was a lot of darkness in him but it came from a place of revenge. I liked that very slowly he starts to reform in a way which is mostly due to Jilly, also due to a twist that changed everything in his plan. Though he really is a devious man still. So Jill was a caregiver. She worried about everyone and never herself as there was no time. I liked that she took a chance with Coltrane, it took a lot of convincing in her mind but she does. They are good for each other its just that Coltrane’s state of mind is not exactly in the right place to be starting a relationship.

The Meyer family is screwed up in their owns ways. There is Dean who doesn’t have any real backbone and is a little sneaky. Jilly who as I said above was the caregiver. Then there is Rachel Ann who is an alcoholic and really messed up. I kind of disliked Rachel Ann because of what she had done but her character surprised me. She had greater depths than she was really using. There was one more member of the family which was Jackson Meyer, their father, who was certainly the villain. He was a vile man but he was worse than I thought and I cringed at the thought of what he wanted from his oldest daughter.

Now what surprised me was that there was a supernatural element to this story which I thought added to the plot. You got to know these siblings better from the ghosts point of view and then to hear what the ghost had seen. There were some twists which happened that involved certain people and those truths would come out towards the very end. Those truths also involve what really happened to those ghosts all those years ago.

There is an ending which I thought was appropriate for the book and it left you happy after all that had happened within the story.

Bridgertons: Happily Ever After

The Bridgertons Happily Ever AfterThere is one series that I will always reference when talking about a family which are the Bridgertons. I was captivated with the series needing to read the entire series which also got me to buy the series.  Now I have found out that there is another book out with the Bridgertons which is The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After. When I saw the book at the bookstore I bought it knowing that I would love it before I even started to read it. This book gives us a second epilogue to all eight stories. The second epilogue for each story are around thirty pages.

I was pretty thrilled with each second epilogue as they followed through with how the Bridgerton’s acted and it gave us a little more detail at those characters happy ending. One that stuck with me was Francesca who finally got her baby, the one she longed for, but really all of the short endings were very enjoyable and brought a smile to my face. Then there is Violets story (the mother of all the Bridgerton children) which I liked but I knew that her happy ending with her husband would not go on forever so I wasn’t looking forward to that. I was happy with the outcome as it showed Violet to be that strong woman who was there for her children and her children were there for her.

For those who love the Bridgerton’s I would recommend that this book is a must to read.

The Birthday Scandal

The Birthday ScandalDuke of Weybridge knows that everyone loves a scandal and a surprise, he will be planning one for his birthday that will involve his family. He will make sure that Lucien, Emily and Isabel will be given what they need to find their own happiness.

The Birthday Scandal is a novel from Leigh Michaels. At the start of the book I had a feeling how the story would be progressing and who was involved with manipulating the siblings to find that happiness that they never had. The one person was obvious and as the story went on the other was pretty clear, but it was a fun and a sweet story to read even as it was predictable.

The Duke was one that you liked and there was a funny surprise at the end that had me laughing. Now the actions of the siblings and the love interests were also engaging to read about. Most once again was predictable but you wanted to keep going with the story as it was enjoyable. Each sibling and love interest were intriguing to read about and the problems that were around them. I loved that each of them created a scandal at the party making the title relevant. The ending gives a new beginning for all the characters that leaves you smiling.

Highland Bride

Gillyanne Murray found herself liking the new land that she held onto. The problem was three suitors who wanted her land. They were persistent but one was more so and she found herself married to him in a blink of an eye.

Connor MacEnroy is ignorant of the ways of woman and Gillyanne is a prize to be won. He soon found out that all things his uncle said about wives were not all true.

Highland Bride is the sixth book to Hannah Howell’s series Murray Family. Reading the series so far has been a lot of fun. The books are engaging and you want to read them. This once was frustrating as the character Connor was less to be desired. His attitude of woman pissed me off as it was very male chauvinistic. Of course the character I hated even more was Meg who played mistress to all the men.

Howell redeems herself as she  switches Connor’s thinking of how to treat a wife and women.

Gillyanne was my favorite character in this particular book as she was a strong woman and would fight for what she wanted, it only took her a little time to find out what she wanted. You cheered her on and wanted her to win in the end. Howell will of course not disappoint the reader and give a happy ending.

Don’t Get Stuck at the Recital

Performing your musical talents is a Smythe-Smith tradition. Every year the sisters or cousins perform for all of the ton but it would help if any of them had any talent. Honoria is the youngest of the siblings and very much out of place with them but she finds her way in the world with trying to make the best at her situation but when fate drops in her brothers oldest friend. Honoria will think about a whole new possibility.

Marcus Holroyd is the only son and has been left on his own since the time of his mothers death. He had grown up a shy boy but had a great friend of Daniel Smythe-Smith. Growing up with Daniel’s family had felt like his own but never really his. But when he sees Honoria again he will start to see her in a whole new light especially after she saves him from fever.

Marcus and Honoria will set upon a romance that neither one admits until either can’t hold back to what they are feeling with the help of family.

Reading the series Bridgertons (which is a fantastic series) you will have already have heard of the famous Smythe-Smiths, and I love that Julia Quinn creates a series just for them. The novel, Just Like Heaven, is a sweet new series that follows just like the Bridgertons but Quinn gives Honoria her own voice and you fall for this completely sweet story.

The whole time I read it there was a smile that kept to my face as you read about her bantering to herself and to Marcus. Of course you can’t forget about the bad playing with the cousins which was comical and lightened the story even more.

Then when you came to Marcus you cheered when he found his own strength to show what he was feeling. I loved hearing his own words through the story and how Quinn expresses his thoughts progressing towards the act of love.

Now there is of course the unbridled lust in the story. This act though was tamed and towards the end giving the story a very sweet and cute plot with flirting and the possibility of more.

Just Like Heaven is the perfect start to the series Smythe-Smith Quartet and I can’t wait for the next one. Who will it be? My bet will be Sarah but I could be wrong.

The Prince and the ex- Agent

Susan Mallery brings a humorous group of characters together in the series The Marcelli Sisters of Pleasure Road. I took a chance and picked a random one which happened to be the last book of the series, The Marcelli Princess.

Mia Marcelli’s live was turned upside down watching her lover die. But that was five years ago and Mia is with family and her son she adores. Things change quickly though when Mia finds herself in bed with Diego who was dead and claims to be Raphael a Prince of his country.

Raphael has on mission and that is to see his son that he has now discovered. Seeing Mia brought back old feelings but he could not get side tracked. He will go up against the entire family to win their love and approval but he will shack their trust when his plan is out in the open.

You certainly will get caught up in the story. The characters specifically the Marcelli family will have you laughing and fighting for family. Mallery brings a sense of a strong family bond which does not get altered only stronger when one is threatened.

I loved Diego but really Raphael who happens to be a prince. He is really there under false pretense and has no remorse whatsoever which is horrible. You really end up hating him for trying to split a perfectly happy family and for lying. But of course everything changes and as the reader you will give Raphael the chance but it better be a good groveling.

Mia’s character is fantastic. I love the interaction of her with the family and especially with her son. She does not falter completely to Raphael but then gives in to get her heart broken again but this time anger is there instead of remorse. She acted just as any woman would.

I was pleasantly surprised with how Mallery ended it and after reading the last one and getting to know everyone in the family I definitely want to read how it all started from the beginning.
