Gabriel’s Gift

The holidays are upon the Prescott family and Gabriel is looking to spending that time with his family on Christmas day. Gabriel will quickly find that he wouldn’t be alone in the house on Christmas Eve. He will find a young girl hiding out in the attic and immediately begin to figure out where she is from, but he can only do that with the help of his family.

Gabriel’s Gift is a novella to the series Lost Hearts by Christina Dodd. This novella gives a little insight with how this extended family has grown over the years. The main character to the novella is obviously Gabriel. Gabriel’s character was a man who was still hurting due to his past but he was a good man. He loved his family with all his heart and his wife. When he interacted with the runaway girl he will have to talk about his past to help this girl heal, along with himself.

I have been a fan of this series, Lost Hearts, and Fortune Hunters which is linked through Gabriel’s character. This novella was very sweet and fun to read. It was actually very mushy with all the emotion but I thought that was just fine because this is a Christmas novella. It was supposed to be filled with love and hope and I think it delivers. The only criticism would be that it could be longer so you get more of this family.

Once Upon a Moonlit Night

Once Upon a Moonlit NightHippolyta Royle was having a very bad night as she was running away from a duke who was blackmailing her so he could marry her. Hippolyta will find help from a man in a carriage even though he doesn’t believe her story.

Matthew Mortimer was on his way to his family home when his carriage was stopped. He will find a young woman who claimed to be an heiress. Matthew doesn’t believe the woman but he will help her anyways, then he finds out she was telling the truth.

Once Upon a Moonlit Night is number 10.5 in the series Maiden Lane by Elizabeth Hoyt. I really loved this novella. I loved that Hoyt starts off Hippolyta’s story right where the tenth book ended her part in story.

Hippolyta’s character was privileged but she wasn’t stuck up. She was a kind girl who was just trying to survive in this new environment. I thought she was a little too soft spoken at times but that was just because she was shy. She became more talkative about her life with Matthew which was what she had been hiding from everyone. By being brave and talking about herself gives her the strength to stand up to those who would look down upon her. Matthew’s character was a man who worked and now he had inherited an earldom which he wasn’t looking forward to having. He was determined to make things work, he was also a kind man as well as passionate. I liked that he showed that compassionate side and helped Hippolyta even though he had no obligation.

I am really looking forward to the eleventh book which I will be reading next.

Ride Hard

Ride HardDare Kenyon lived for his motorcycle club, they were his family. He did his best to do right by them and to protect others. Dare will find it difficult to help his next client, Haven. He will immediately want her but before he can start thinking about forever he will have to stop the men after Haven.

Haven Randall had been a runaway with her best friend which was how had come to be kidnapped. They were rescued and brought to the Raven Riders for safety. For Haven it had been the first time that she had truly felt save and just as she was settling in her world will be rocked once again.

Ride Hard is the first book to the series Raven Riders by Laura Kaye. I have to say that I loved that Laura Kaye has written this series. I had loved Hard Ink series and with the introduction of the Raven Riders I was excited to read their story. So, yes, I really loved the story. How could you not with hot bikers whose mission was to save those who were in trouble.

I liked Haven. She was definitely timid and scared of her own shadow but you knew deep down she was stronger. I liked that she started to come out of her shell but she was very much the victim for most of the book. Though I wasn’t mad at that because that was how she grew up. Dare’s character was an alpha but he is very much a softy. Dare had a tragic past but he was doing everything he could to help others. I liked that his club was like a family and they protected each other at all costs. That will be proved when the bad guys come for Haven.

I can’t wait to read the next story though I have awhile to wait before the second book comes out as it will be coming out in April of 2017.

The Rogue Not Taken

The Rogue Not TakenSophie Talbot hated society while her family loved it. She just wanted to get out especially when she insults a duke. Sophie will runaway which will have her sticking close to Kingscote. She loathed him on sight. All she wanted was to be free to have her own life. Though things will not go as she hoped especially when she starts to feel things for Kingscote.

Kingscote, the Marquess of Eversley, never wanted to love. He was perfectly happy being a rogue. He will be instantly annoyed with Sophie and want to get rid of her as quickly as possible but he will not be able to keep her away. Though through their journey King will find himself wanting Sophie more than he should. He will have to stop himself from truly acting like the rogue his reputation stated.

The Rogue Not Taken is the first book to the series Scandal and Scoundrel by Sarah Maclean. I really liked this book.

When I first started I wasn’t really sure I would like Sophie. She first seemed too silly but really she was the most practical of the sisters, and the bravest. She was stubborn to do what she needed but she was also very caring. I hated that she was overlooked as she was not the prettiest or looked as the boring one. Well Sophie will change that when she leaves which will cause a scandal in itself. King was a surprise. His reputation was telling everyone that he was a rogue and a scoundrel but he was not all that everyone thought. King was hurt long ago and that stayed with him and it shaped the man he was today. I liked that he really was a good man, he wasn’t perfect but he was a good.

The banter between Sophie and King was very entertaining and it kept me invested within the story.

I loved how Maclean ended the book because for me as a romance reader it was the perfect ending for these characters.

The second book is coming out and I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Tempting Mr. Townsend

Tempting Mr. TownsendAnthony Townsend was in a panic as he raced to find his missing nephew. His search brought him to Lady Fenella Deerham. He will be shocked by this woman. She seemed quiet and fragile but she was stronger than she looked. Anthony will want her right away but will wonder if he could have her.

Lady Fenella Deerham has known the love of one man and for five years she had mourned his death. Now with the encouragement of her friends she is out to live again. But her heart will not be in it until she meets Anthony Townsend. Although she will have little time to think about it as she was searching for her son and Anthony’s nephew.

Tempting Mr. Townsend is the second book to the series Dashing Widows by Anna Campbell. I really liked this story. I pretty much devoured it in one sitting which of course didn’t take long as its a novella.

I had wondered about Fenella in the previous book. I had hoped that she would get out and try to enjoy life. She was too serious and even though you understood she loved her husband it had been five years. Fenella was still young and should find another man to love. What I also liked was that Fenella was stronger than she let others see. Anthony was a man of the working class and he made a life for himself. He was a brute of a man but when it came to Fenella he was tender.

I liked the beginning with the missing child and nephew. Fenella and Anthony had to work together to find them and I liked that you got to get to know the characters before they immediately had sex. Anna Campbell then went into the scenes where of course they had steamy sex but I think the timing worked, especially with this story being a novella.

I can’t wait to read Helena and West’s story which is now available to buy.

When Lightning Strikes and Code Name Cassandra

Vanished 2I am back with Meg Cabot as I am re-reading the series 1-800-Where-R-You. I read this series as a teenager and it was one I loved. As I was reading the Mediator series I wanted more from Cabot so I went in search of these books and for me I still find the series pretty amazing. Meg Cabot writes this series with some flair, humor, sarcasm especially from Jess, and some pretty cool powers. At my library I was able to find all five books to the series so I can re-read the series all in a row. This first book which is titled Vanished is the first and second book to the series.

When Lightning Strikes

Jessica Mastriani or known as Jess was not having good luck with keeping out of detention but her luck will only get worse as she will find herself in a big storm under the school bleachers. When lightning strikes Jess will be hit. The next day she will know for sure that a kid who was missing will be found thanks to her dream she had the other night. Jess will find herself with powers to find people who were missing but that will come with its own consequences.

This was the first book to the series 1-800-Where-R-You and I loved it. Jess is a girl with a tough side who will stand up for those she cares for. She has spunk but she is not always as brave as she lets on. I liked that when she got her powers she in no way wanted that celebrity status, and that will get in her way when the government comes calling. I was reading this part and thinking don’t be stupid to agree to go with them but she has to do it to help her brother from having another episode.

With the government you knew they were using her and they didn’t see anything wrong with that. She does get her justice in the end with them which was pretty funny. I was kind of annoyed with her mom and sometimes her dad. Her mom was all excited about this celebrity status and getting rewards for what Jess was doing. I wondered why they weren’t more concerned that their daughter was hit by lightning. They were good parents though, I guess the mom was just caught up in it all.

Then there was the love interest which was Rob. I like his character as he looks like the bad boy, well acts like it at times, but he is a kid who made a mistake and was doing what he could. This book didn’t have him making too many appearances but he will be a character that will be in all the books of the series.

Code Name Cassandra

After claiming her powers disappeared Jess is taking it easy. For the summer she will be a counselor for gifted kids at a music camp. Jess thought everything was going fine when a desperate father will come to the camp asking for help. Jess will help reluctantly but this time she is going to investigate and make sure the kid wants to be found. But helping out will be getting Jess into more danger and have the Feds on her tail once again.

As a sequel goes I thought Cabot wrote this one well as she kept Jess with the defiant attitude and spunk she had in the first book. I liked that Jess was playing the game that she lost her powers when of course she didn’t. It was interesting that they will get stronger especially when she has to help find a kid fast.

Rob is back in the book as I knew he would be. I liked that he was doing everything he could to help Jess but he still wouldn’t go down that route to date her as she was too young, 2 years, but with him being 18 it can matter.  Well with these little adventures they take the two of them will get closer to becoming more.

I would say there is a little more danger with the threat of the man who will be after Jess in this book. Before it was the government, who didn’t want her killed just obtained and used. This man wanted to beat her and kill her for what Jess did. The Feds are still around and insisting that Jess is lying and they are going to keep watching and waiting to catch her in the act and these guys are persistent.

I am going to start the third and fourth books next as they are once again combined in one book. I pretty much remember all that will be happening in these next two books and can’t wait to re-read them.

Worth Any Price

worth any priceNick Gentry was born into a well standing family but it quickly was lost when his parents died. He became a rebellious child falling into the wrong crowd leading him to be one of the better thief takers of the area. Nick will find himself being turned to a new man as a Bow Street Runner thanks to his brother-in-law. The one thing that Nick will find missing is a woman he could call his own and he finds that with Charlotte.

Miss Charlotte “Lottie” Howard has runaway from her intended fiancee as she can not bear to have him touch her or order her around like she was his property. Lottie will think she is safe but will find herself being found by a Bow Street Runner who will have his own solution to her problem of her intended.

Worth Any Price is the third book to Bow Street Runners series from Lisa Kleypas. This is the last book to the series and wraps it up nicely giving Nick a second chance at a life.

I was fascinated with this man who was a thief but nobleman at the same time. He was not as cruel or vindictive as you might think, but that is because his past in the prison still haunts him at what he had seen. He was a character that I wanted to have a second chance at to finding love and moving on with his life. He is hesitant at returning to his old life with a title but with Charlotte he will have a good chance at succeeding. Now Charlotte’s character was not foolish or really naive instead she was a brave woman fleeing from a life she knows would eventually kill her spirit. She is a brave woman as well for pairing up with Nick who she will find appealing but dangerous at the same time.

The villain is the aged suitor who has been pursuing Charlotte for most of her life. He was a little perverse and demanding but I almost want to say that her parents were the true villain letting her be traded with this man for wealth.

As I have now finished this series I am going on to Lisa Kleypas series Hathaways.
