Winter

WinterWinter is the fourth and final book to the series Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I liked this book. I thought that this was a very well done conclusion to the series but it was long, and I mean long. The book was over 800 pages.

So lets talk about the plot. Well to put it simply the plot is all about this small group of people trying to stop the Queen. That has been the plot throughout the series but this book will center on truly getting rid of the Queen.

Alright, now I said above that this book was 800 pages long and even though I liked the book it was a little much at times. Though I will admit that what was written was interesting. Each character had once again a good portion of the book. Now Winter would be the featured character but I felt that was not the case. I think it was still very much Cinder’s story which I didn’t mind as I like her above all the others. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t like Winter. She was a kindhearted and compassionate girl who happened to be unlucky when it came to stepmothers.

Now what can I saw without giving any spoilers away. Probably not too much. The one thing that I will say is that Marissa Meyer is a very good writer and I liked that she gave a concrete conclusion to the story for all characters involved, whether it was bad or good.

Cress

CressCress is the third book to the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. Another very entertaining book in the series. With series like these I don’t always like them but this one has captured my attention.

The third book is with Cinder, Wolf, Scarlet, and Thorne who had all banned together to get to Cress as a rescue. Though that plan will quickly go bad when they are split up into groups. Their plan to stop the Queen is slowed down but they are all determined to stop the Queen and to save Kai from a fate which will be his death.

Within this book there was more action happening which was because the group was separated. I liked that each group got their own part in the book. You were able to get to know the characters better. Cress, the new character, was very naive but she was smart, and did the best that she could. So other than the new character there were some big things happening in this book, like identities being revealed and big rescue attempts.

I am reading Fairest next which will be about the Queen Levana. Then I will be finishing up the series with Winter.

Scarlet

ScarletI am continuing with Scarlet which is the second book to Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. This book was fun to read. This strange world that Meyer’s has written is interesting and it will hold your attention.

So this story is continuing with Cinder’s quest to find out what happened to her in her past. She is teamed up with another inmate, Thorne. Though Cinder’s story is not the only one being told. There is also Scarlet whose grandmother had been kidnapped by a group of men. Scarlet will team up with a man called Wolf.

I liked reading about Scarlet, who is being portrayed as Little Red Riding Hood, and her quest to find her grandmother but I found that I missed reading more about Cinder. Especially with the new information that is discovered about Cinder. Though Scarlet was a good addition to the series. She is fiery and a determined woman. I also liked Wolf as well even though he isn’t exactly a hero.

It is interesting how these characters are connected, and they are all connected to the missing Princess Selena. Well she is not really missing any longer. I hope that Cinder in the next book will be taking some action against the Queen but it still might be too early for that in the series.

I am reading Cress next.

Cinder

CinderCinder is the first book to the series Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. This is a young adult series that I had heard about from a librarian. I had actually seen the cover when it first came out but I brushed it off because I don’t read a lot of young adult and it was dealing with cyborgs. I don’t read a lot of science fiction as it doesn’t really interest me but I was encouraged to try the book, so I gave it a shot, and I am glad that I did. I liked this novel. It was an adaptation of Cinderella but it was created in this fantasy type world. I will admit that at times I felt it was a little long but I got over those moments and continued to enjoy the book.

So the story Cinder is basically about this teenage girl who is a ward of this mother and her two daughters. Cinder is not just human but part cyborg. She does not remember her past but know that her parents had been killed and she survived a horrific accident. To make a living Cinder is a mechanic which is where she will meet Prince Kai. Though this is not a fairy tale where they immediately fall in love. This is a time of war and disease that is destroying the people.

I liked Cinder’s character. She was an interesting character being a cyborg and the mystery about her life beforehand intrigued me. I also liked Prince Kai and thought at times he could make a decision faster but then remembered he had all his people to think about, not just his feelings. The other main character is Queen Levana who is pure evil when it comes to getting what she wants.

There is a lot to this book and yes it can be predictable but I felt that Meyer’s wrote the story well. She leaves the book at a cliffhanger which I don’t really like. Its because I have to usually wait forever to read what happens next. Well I guess I was thinking ahead because I made sure to check out the rest of the series. I will be reading Scarlet next.

A Groom of One’s Own

A Groom of One's OwnSophie Harlow had been left at the alter which was heartbreaking. She moved on with her life and became a writer. She would write about all the society weddings but her recent job will be difficult when she starts to have feelings for the groom.

Duke of Hamilton and Brandon was getting married to the perfect girl. She was beautiful, undemanding and was not in love with him. Brandon will find himself in trouble when his eyes drift longingly towards the writer who is doing the exclusive on his wedding.

A Groom of One’s Own is the first book to Maya Rodale by Writing Girls. I really enjoyed this book. Having already read the third book of the series I knew that I liked these woman and Rodale’s style of writing. Her writing is fun and she brings some humor to these characters with the situation they were getting themselves into, especially at the end.

So Brandon was engaged to Clarissa but he wanted another, Sophie, and she wanted him as well. Then Clarissa wanted her prince but was stuck being engaged to Brandon. It sounded like a play but these characters are clever enough and driven by love so they will find a way. Now there will be a problem with some secrets which are on Clarissa side. These secrets are a problem which threatened everyone from finding happiness. I will say I was a little surprised by the secret but it made sense.

I thought all characters had a place in the book and liked them all, well except for Lady Richmond. She was a piece of work and you wanted her to back off and let Clarissa find her own happiness.

Now the romance was something I loved in this book. It was a forbidden romance but I liked that even though the romance was forbidden no one was being really hurt because Brandon loved Sophie and Clarissa loved the prince.

I am reading the second book next.

Prince of Dreams

Prince of DreamsEmma Stokehurst was in love with one man but she could never have him which had her turning towards another. She does not claim to love Prince Nikolas but he allowed her the life she wanted. Emma soon starts to care for her husband when he turns distant. She will force herself to do the same but will be baffled when he changes once again.

Prince Nikolas had lived through abuse and saw what it had done to his brother. He wanted Emma since he had first meet her and he watched her bloom into a woman. He will get what he wanted but then he starts to truly care and even love. He will need to push her away before she understands that she was important to him but then every thing changes.

Prince of Dreams is the second book to the series Stokehurst by Lisa Kleypas. The second book finishes up the series and I have to say it was a really well written novel and I loved that this story was with Emma. I really loved her character. The story provoked a lot of emotion for the romance reader in me. I wanted Emma and Nikolas to have that chance and it seemed that they were doing well but then he becomes a cruel man towards his wife. I hated to read that side of him. I hated what it was doing to Emma. So there were definitely parts that I did not like in the book but it got you to feel and want that happy ending even more.

The paranormal aspect is once again in the book. Nikolas will be having visions but his will go much further. Alright this is a SPOILER ALERT so beware. If you don’t want to read what is going to happen to Nikolas stop reading now! So Nikolas will be thrown into his past but will be his great great grandfather. He will find love and happiness with his wife who looked just like Emma. As I read this part of the book I worried that he would be staying in this time. I wanted him back to the present, to love Emma once again. Well he will get back and become a different man, a man who is not completely tormented.

I loved the change in him but felt that he would really have to work hard to get back in the good graces of his wife. That will happen and there will be a very happy ending but there will be other bumps in the road which will threaten their happiness and safety.

I am continuing on in the list of books from Lisa Kleypas with Somewhere I’ll Find You.

How to Purse a Princess

How to Purse a PrincessLily Balfour needs to marry a wealthy suitor to help her father out of debt and to help her sister not marry a man that she thought was too old. Lily will accept an invitation by her godmother who will lead her to a suitor but Lily will look to another man who will make her heart beat faster.

Prince Wulfinski or known as Wulf wanted a woman to love him for him, not his title or for his wealth. He will make up a lie and tell them he is poor. He will quickly fall for Lily but getting her to admit her feelings for him was a difficult task.

How to Pursue a Princess is the second book to Duchess Diaries series by Karen Hawkins. The first book was one I couldn’t get enough of and the second is the same way. I liked how the whole story flowed and I easily finished it from start to finish, not wanting to put the book down. When it comes down to it I really enjoyed reading about these characters. It was a book you could curl up and just read.

Lily is a straight forward kind of person but when she gets her first taste of passion she is torn between duty and love. I was cheering for her to chose love as you knew that Wulf was wealthy and would help but Lily would do what he had to do. Prince Wulf was all charm but not in a horrible rakish kind of way. He was a decent man who actually believed in love and wanted to marry for love. He does use seduction as a technique and is good at it but Lily will not quite give in. There is a happy ending for four people that is once all things are cleared up and the secret Wulf has been hiding is revealed.

I liked the godmother who interferes but in the nicest kind of way. What I also liked was reading her thoughts in the diary she wrote, which gave you more insight with what was going on inside the Duchesses mind. The diary placement was done like this in the first and more than likely will be in the third book.

I am reading the third book next and can’t wait to read Dahlia’s story.
