Playing Games

Katy Short was only at the audition to help her brother but she will quickly be paired up with her brother for the reality tv show that was a race. Katy will be happy with the money that came with the show but things will get out of hand especially when her partner changes from brother to rock star.

Playing Games is the second book to the series Games by Jessica Clare. This series is clearly inspired by classical reality tv shows that are still very popular. This one was very much based on the Amazing Race and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a great follow up to the series.

Katy was a fantastic character. She was very genuine and I liked that as the race started she got that competitive edge. I also liked that she found something real in a reality tv show. The romance reader in me was cheering for Katy and Liam and hoping that they would find a happy ending. Liam’s character was a rock star that just wanted to write music. He was stuck on this show but he will be surprised by Katy and surprised that he found a connection with her.

The one thing that drove me was crazy was Brodie, Katy’s older brother. He pretty much betrayed his sister at every turn. Yet she tried to help her brother. If Brodie is in another story within the series I hope he isn’t such a villain, but more than likely he would be.

I am reading Ice Games next.

Pregnancy and Passion

So I decided I would venture on to another series by Maya Banks. Seeing that all four books of the series were available to check out I grabbed them. As they were all fairly short novels (under two hundred pages) they would be pretty quick to read.

Enticed By His Forgotten Lover

Amnesia was a hard thing to swallow for Bryony Morgan. The father of her child had walked away at least that’s what she thought. Then he gives her the story he was in a plane accident and lost those weeks. Bryony wanted to forgive him but there was a part of her that feared he wouldn’t remember or love her anymore. She was going to help him remember.

Rafael de Luca was a hard man and it killed him not to remember weeks of his life but he had to move on that was until he came upon a pregnant lover. He knew she was not his type but the passion they shared proved his body remembered her. Rafael will learn to love but then his memory will come back proving that he was not the knight in shinning armor Bryony painted him to be.

Wanted By His Lost Love

Ryan Beardsley knew betrayal as he looked into his fiance eyes hearing lies about his brother. Ryan felt hurt, lost to know she slept with his little brother. Dumping her quickly he cut the ties that held them together. Now months later Ryan is concerned that she had not cashed the check he gave her. He went in search only to find out that she was pregnant. Instead of throwing insults Ryan wanted a second chance no matter whose baby it was.

Kelly Christian felt the betrayal of her fiance not believing her. She needed his most when she was assaulted but he believed in the worst. Heartbroken Kelly ran. Now months later becoming bigger than a house with her pregnancy Kelly sees Ryan. He is controlling her life now giving her orders to keep healthy. Kelly wants to believe he wants another chance but as he still doesn’t believe her she can’t let him back in all the way.

Tempted By Her Innocent Kiss

Devon Carter was on a verge of a big deal there was only one catch. He had to marry the mans daughter to get the contract. Devon didn’t want too but he agreed. Sooner than later he found himself married to a very vibrant woman but that will crash when the truth will rear its ugly head. Devon will soon find himself missing her energy as it is replaced with a boring woman.

Ashley Copeland loves life. Loves chaos and now loves her husband but it all falls apart on her wedding night. She finds she was bought and paid for by her father. She was a business deal. She doesn’t want a divorce as she loves Devon. She wants his love in return. Her plan is to change to get him to love her. But the change destroys the person she was and leaves her heartbroken and pregnant.

Undone By Her Tender Touch

Pippa Laingley wanted sex for the night. She got and lots of it from Cameron but there was a problem. With the tear of a condom all her plans changed and not for the better. She soon finds out that having a baby is the last thing Cameron wanted. Pippa knows to cut him out of their lives but it is hard when you are in love with the man.

Cameron Hollingsworth had lost his family and didn’t want it to happen again. He thought pushing Pippa away would work but he couldn’t stay away. He kept helping her bringing her closer but he could not open up his heart to her. It was only when he thought he lost her did he realize what he let slip through his fingers. He had to fight back to gain her trust and love.

The series Pregnancy & Passion certainly holds up to the category of romance novels in the Harlequin family. All the stories had romance mixed with sex and of course betrayal that will tug at your heart strings. The series started with a bang in the first book and stayed that way all the way into the last book of the series.

I found that the themes through all of the books was find the right woman, screw up and figure it out hoping its not too late. That was the formula for all the stories but nevertheless I was engaged in each story as they were all a little different. I liked the amnesia mixed into the story of the first book. The assault on Kelly in the second story will break your heart but you will feel triumph with what Ryan does. While Banks gave us a marriage of convenience in the third book which is never a good idea but will find its way of working out. The last book I liked that Banks gave Cam the problems of trust. It was he who had to be healed.

Banks will make each of the woman strong in their own way. A woman who could leave the man they loved to safe themselves and their babies. They all had backbone and the men all had to pay for their behavior but not with money. They had to get on their knees to beg for forgiveness.

Pregnancy & Passion is a fun, engaging and fast paced series to read.

The Guilty Don’t Run

Why if you are innocent would you run? That is what Abby has been asking herself when she sees Hawk shoot their boss point blank. Hawk says he is innocent that it is Gaines who is behind all of this. Abby doesn’t know what to believe as Gaines was the one who saved her but soon a sick feeling in her gut tells her she might be wrong. Abby will have to learn to trust Hawk as he tries to prove his innocence and keep her safe.

Jill Shalvis creates a hit with Shadow Hawk. The book brings enough adventure, sabotage and steamy scenes to make your body melt. Shalvis creates another story alongside of Hawk and Abby which is Logan and Callan.

The villain you knew right away which was fine because you wanted to know how Hawk was going to prove his innocence.

Shadow Hawk was a book worth reading.

Partners in Crime or Partners in Love

Nora Roberts brings two dynamic reporters to the page in Partners where they must join forces to discover who committed the crime.

“He had wanted Laural Armand for years, through professionally she was his nemesis.  But once the two rival reporters headed down to steamy New Orleans to investigate a murder, Matt Bates  was determined to make his lovely adversary his willing partner in passion.”

Nora Roberts brings in the reader straight into the plot as the characters are already at each others throats professionally but as they continue down the path the sexual tension that has been blooming strikes hot.  Matt and Laural will be going down the path to bring in the murderer but they will also find what they have wanted out of each other.

Partners was entertaining to read and a fast book to complete.  The characters of the two reporters were interesting, intense with secrets of their own and had desire.  But the most outspoken character was the grandmother who was priceless.  She didn’t give a damn about what she said or did and had no qualms about letting you know.

Along Came a Spider by James Patterson

This is the first book of the series Alex Cross.  He is a detective trying to solving cases.  On TV two of James Patterson’s that I have seen were Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls.  Both movies were fantastic to watch.  They were interesting with a lot of drama and suspense.  So initially I was excited to pick up the book “Along Came a Spider” after reading James Patterson’s book “Honeymoon”.

The plot of the books is that Alex cross and his partner Samson are caught up in a kidnapping of two rich students from a private school.  And after they get on the case which is filled with sabotage, betrayal, mystery and suspense for Alex Cross.  He will find the clues to the whereabouts of the children but will it be too late?

So starting this book I was not thrilled.  I found it a little boring and slow in the beginning.  I kept puting the book down and not wanting to pick it up.  I don’t know why that was I guess even though the writer is James Patterson his writing was different from Honeymoon.  “Along Came a Spider” did not grasp me from the beginning.  Although once you got into the story it was better and suspenseful but still not my favorite book.  Though I will still try another series of his collection.
