My Lady’s Choosing

Do you remember those amazing choose your own adventure books? I know I do and they were books which I loved when I was a kid. Well imagine my surprise years later I would read another choose your own adventure, yet this time its with a romance. My Lady’s Choosing by Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris which is an interactive romance story.

Alright, now its been a while since I posted because I have just not been inspired to write. I have read some great books but I just didn’t want to write. Personally I think I was just tired about writing about books and needed a break. But when I found out about this book, My Lady’s Choosing, by a librarian friend and the moment I heard about it I had to check it out and write about it. I was so excited about reading this book I made sure to follow each adventure the book presented.

So the concept of the book is that the reader is the heroine and you will get to choose you own adventure. You might travel to Egypt and find love and adventure. You could stay as a companion and solve a mystery that surrounded the man you loved. Perhaps you might find love in the arms of a Scotsman. Or love from a broken man. With each situation there are several opportunities to go a different route.

I will say these stories are not the most amazing things I have read as they are cliche but they are fun and I love the nostalgic feeling of this book. My Lady’s Choosing was very engaging and I really hope that there will be another written by these authors as I think they did a great job with this interactive story. If no others are written I might just have to find some choose your own adventures from my childhood.

For those who want to read a fun romance story try out My Lady’s Choosing.

Montana Bride

Montana BrideKarl Norwood was looking for a wife with children of her own. He wanted a family and will get that when his mail order bride comes, but he will know that she is hiding something from him.

Hetty Wentworth needed to survive and the only way was to become a mail order bride. She will take the two orphaned children with her and keep up the charade but knows that it can only last so long.

Montana Bride is the third book to Joan Johnston’s series Mail-Order Brides. Reading the third book kept my interest much like the second. I did however come to the same conclusion that at times the characters were a little annoying, mainly Hetty. I was thinking that she was a little too ungrateful for wanting the handsomer man than the man who would be kind to her, Karl. It was like she did not learn any lesson she received with the duel that ended in tragedy. Now I was happy to read that she does become a better person and comes to love her husband, of course she is still being untruthful to him. The truth would come out as it was expected. Karl was a man who you would want for a husband back then. Johnston describes him as average but with his personality he was a prince to these kids and Hetty until he finds all that she had been lying to him. Karl will learn to love his wife again and I liked that Johnston had Hetty working for that trust again.

The addition of the brother and sister, Griffin and Grace, worked well into the story. I liked both their characters as they were yes children but they had to adapt to what was given to them. They didn’t trust easily but it was sweet how they finally excepted Hetty and Karl in the end.

What I didn’t expect was Denis. I figured he was a showoff but he was pretty vindictive when it came to what he wanted. I was hoping that Johnston would not have Denis and Hetty have an affair and they didn’t since Hetty was growing up and learned from her mistakes. Denis gets what is coming to him in the end, once again justice is served.

As I finished this book I found out that I was right in my earlier assumption that Josie was not in the picture but I am definitely looking forward to reading her story and the first book with Miranda.

The Naked Marquis

The Naked MarquisCharles Draysmith has become the newest Marquis of Knightsdale something he never expected or wanted to be. He would do his duty and take the title along with finding a wife which the process he is not looking forward to. He will find his luck turning when he meets up with Emma Peterson once again.

Emma Peterson has taken over for caring for these girls temporarily as the governess. She will soon come face to face with her childhood crush and find that she still loves him. The only problem is he wants to marry her but for practical reasons not love.

I am brought back to this series Naked Nobility by Sally MacKenzie and finishing the series with The Naked Marquis. As the rest of these novels there is wit, charm, a little humor and characters that you liked. Charles was not looking for responsibility but took it. It was humorous as he pursue Emma in all the wrong ways. I did chuckle as well when Emma would let her temper loose which usually meant throwing things at Charles because he would say the wrong thing.

Overall I liked this book it was a good addition and fun to revisit with all the characters that have been talked about or had their own story which I read.

Highland Avenger

The thirteenth book of the Murray Family series is Highland Avenger by Hannah Howell.

Arianna Murray Lucette has been married for several years in a lie with verbal abuse everyday of her marriage, but now she is free. Though freedom is not so easy for Arianna as she is soon on the run with her husbands illegitimate children to the outside world. She will find sanctuary in the arms of a man that will make her believe that love is possible.

Sir Brian MacFingal will find a woman he thinks is dead but soon finds out she is alive and not alone. He will rescue Arianna and her two wards from the danger that awaits her from her husbands clan. Brian will protect her body with his own and try to heal the wounds that are on the inside of Arianna while trying hard not to fall in love.

I thought it pretty amazing how Hannah Howell created the series as this family could go on and on, and I have a feeling she is not going to stop anytime soon. I liked this story as it went back to an enemy the Murray’s had been fighting over time but its been a while since they were spoken.

The main characters were fun to read about and I like how Howell brings in Arianna’s family to be the protective type. Our main man Brian plays the same role as many of the men of Howell’s series where they don’t understand what they are throwing away. Of course a happy ending will find its way to the pages.

I wonder now which Murray will have their story told.

Eat Prey Love

Waiting for books from authors is sometimes hard to do. I had taken a break from Kerrelyn Sparks as I had finished all her books from the series after The Vampire and the Virgin. Now she has a few more out and I was excited to read all about Carlos in Eat Prey Love.

Carlos Panterra is a were-panther who is looking for his mate. His goal is to find one to help with the children he has acquired. A problem occurs when Carlos finds the woman he wants, she is perfect for him expect she doesn’t grow claws. Carlos will fight that attraction for the perfect mate but it will be hard as he can’t get her out of his mind and she is not taking any hints.

Caitlyn Whelan is human but unique. Animals come to her willing and any language she can pick up but what scares her most is seeing a sister who she thought forgot all about her. Caitlyn was ready to hold resentment for Shanna but soon finds out why they were separated. Anger for her dad comes quickly but soon her mind is taken over by a man she wants to get to know, Carlos. According to everyone he is forbidden but Caitlyn likes to live on the wild side.

Eat Prey Love is the ninth book of the series Love at Stake. I have to say this series is one you can just keep reading. I like how Sparks keeps adding in new characters either as guards, vampires or were-animals who will play a future role in the series.

Before reading the ninth book I went back and read the first eight books once again to get back into the series. When Carlos is introduced you love his spirit and I was excited now that he had his own book. Carlos’s character is sensual with a witty sense of humor. The banter between Caitlyn and Carlos was like an old married couple.

Caitlyn was a good addition to the book. I am interested if their brother will make an appearance in the series later on. Caitlyn was unique with her own powers which were fitting when it came to her being with Carlos.

The adventure in the book kept going from beginning to the end. I found it fun to read about the previous vampires and their love interest being happy and the children of Shanna’s and Roman’s were a nice addition to hear about.

I can’t wait to pick up Vampire Mine. Finally Connor will have his chance!

Lie By Moonlight by Amanda Quick

The last and fourth book of the Vanza series was an absolute delight to read.

Hired to tutor four orphan girls to remote, ramshackle Aldwick Castle, Miss Concordia Glade is pleased to find her pupils both eager and bright.  Indeed, they are bright enough to have noticed some oddities about their situation.  Provided for by an unseen benefactor, they are surrounded at all times by hard-eyed guards in the guise of gardners and their previous tutor, she learns, disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Stepping into this uncertain atmosphere, Concordia sees at once what must be done.  The plan is daring in scope and execution, but with the help of her four students, the great escape stands a good chance of success.  Of course, even the best laid plans can go awry…and even the most independent, strong-minded lady must occasionally accept an offer of help.

During an investigation into a woman’s death, private inquiry agent Ambrose Wells finds himself on the castle grounds  and in the middle of chaos.  The building is in flames.  People are dead.  And a woman and four girls are fleeing on horseback.  A confirmed loner, Ambrose nevertheless finds himself taking Concordia and her students under his wing.  His past has made him eminently suitable to protect them from the person behind the events at Aldwick Castle: a notorious London crime Lord who will stop at nothing to destroy those who know his secrets.

Their lives at risk, Concordia and the girls must remain safely in hiding until Ambrose is able to unravel the dark conspiracy.  But if the girls have learned anything from Miss Glade, it is the value of curiosity a quality their teacher possess in great abundance.  She has never been one to sit back quietly and let others take care of her.  As the danger circles ever closer, Ambrose adn Concordia must work together to discover a way out of the darkness.  In the process, they will learn a few lessons themselves about stubbornness, courage, and love.

The last book of the series was wonderful to read.  There was intrigue, excitement and entertainment.  I loved the plot of a teacher who takes four of the girls and manages an escape.

The characters were creative and enduring while the plot was entertaining.  I love each trait of the characters as they worked their way through the plot, each were unforgettable.

Quick leaves you with a smile at the end where everyone is moving toward the future.
