Rose Thayer was the maid of honor for her best friend. She arrived in New Orleans expecting the usual wedding events but she will find herself being sent to the bachelor party as a stripper to find out if the groom will cheat.
New Orleans is the first book to the series Sex, Lies & Wedding Cake by Cat Johnson. Alright, I liked the novella for the most part but I felt that the author could have a lot done more. The transitions between the scenes were too quick, and it seemed that I was missing pieces. I wanted more to the story, for her to flush out the characters. I wanted to know more about Rose and Tim, but all we got was a strange situation and sex. Still there were funny moments, I just wanted more.
I am going to continue with the other two books of the series as I am curious about what will happen next.
Celia Vallerand was on a ship with her husband who will be killed by the pirates. She will be abducted by these pirates and will fight for her freedon, but there will be no stopping these pirates. She will be rescued by a man called Griffin who was a Captain and a pirate. She will be shocked when he tells her that he will take her to the Vallerand family, but she will be more shocked to find out the identity of her rescuer.
Only With Your Love is the second book to the series Vallerands by Lisa Kleypas. I thought this was a fantastic book to follow up the first book, When Strangers Marry.
I was happy to read that this story was about the twins or at least one of them. Philippe will be married to Celia but will be killed by the pirates. Celia’s rescuer will be Justin although he is unrecognizable with his long hair and beard. There were times that I did not like Justin throughout the book. He was sometimes too cruel to Celia with his teasing and reminding her that she succumbed to his charm. He was trying to push her away but then he wanted her at his side. His character from the previous book had not changed that much but towards the end I was happy to read that he truly accepted his family, that helped him change at least a little. Celia was a woman in a horrible situation. Her mind fought the attraction but her body wanted the pirate, Justin. I thought she was strong in the sense of her desire to do right. She did not need to nurse Justin back to health but she did because it was right. Now although their relationship was not anything romantic it did end up that way.
The bad pirates are pretty despicable in the book and there will be a betrayal which will have Justin fuming towards the end and very well could have killed more than one person.
In the book you will find out that Philippe was not the saint that everyone thought and there will be a twist towards the ending which I was wondering if Kleypas was going to go that route. I was wanting her to but at the same time didn’t because it would disrupt the happy ending that I wanted. Well even with the twist there was a happy ending for everyone which I loved.
Stephanie Grant was not used to selling herself or at least give the appearance of selling herself but she needed to. She needed to find her sister who had stopped calling after she let out her secret of becoming an escort. She will enlist the help of an ex-cop bartender to help find Tina.
Jake Broussard was an ex-cop who became a bartender when he lost his wife. Racked with guilt Jake keeps to himself but when he spots Stephanie in the club he is determined to help.
Wildest Dreams is a novel by Toni Blake. I have only tried the series Destiny by Toni Blake and have really liked it so I figured I would try another book of hers. I liked the book. It was a quick read and filled with some mystery and an atmosphere is very sexual especially as the night is filled with escorts.
Stephanie is a fish out of water in this world of escorts. She finds help with Jake who is attracted to her but can’t move on. I liked these two characters together but knew that until they found a way to move on they would never be able to find happiness together. Now between these two characters there is a lot of sexual tension that floats between them but when they find a way together they will sizzle. Though that sizzle might not last very long.
So as I said I liked the book as it gave a little mystery with where Tina was and who she was with. The person she is with is definitely a shady person but you don’t know how much until much later. There will be a twist that Blake writes which will wrap up everything for Jake to get closure towards the end giving him a chance at that happy ending with Stephanie.
Karen Whitlaw is no stranger to tragedy as her mother passed away three weeks ago. She will then hear about her fathers murder whom she hadn’t seen in fifteen years. She will go down towards New Orleans to claim the body where she will meet Marc Chastain who was assigned to her fathers case. Trouble will start to happen to Karen when she gets back home to find that someone is after her and now she wonders if it is because of the package her father had sent her mother.
Marc Chastain was assigned the case of a shooting. When he gets there something doesn’t feel right as it looked as if the scene had been compromised. He will investigate the truth which will lead him to the last remaining family Dex Whitlaw had, his daughter. He will have an instant connection to this woman and want her but trouble will interrupt their happy ending and Marc will have to protect her from someone who wants to kill her.
Kill and Tell is the first book to the series CIA’s Spies by Linda Howard. I only have read a couple books from this author and I have been very entertained by her plots and characters that she writes. This book got me from the very beginning with the mysterious package that Dexter was sending to his wife back in Ohio. I wanted to know what was in the package and found it interesting that so many people were after it. You do find out what it is, a kill book. It is how Dex kept track of the enemies he killed as a sniper but there was one that was done solely for murder. This is the reason for everyone trying to find him and the book.
Karen is a good daughter but only to the one parent who didn’t desert her. She took care of her mother and was horrified when she died which all started with a simple cold. She was strong and stubborn but she does do the right thing. She will claim her father’s body but that will lead her into so much more trouble. The trouble comes in two forms, the men chasing her and the man, Marc, whose attraction scares her. That is because she likes to control what is happening and Marc was upsetting that control. Now Marc’s character is a man who is very good at his job. He is dedicated to his work and is a lady’s man but when he meets Karen something changes. He wants this woman more than he has ever wanted. There is a very intense scene on the balcony which leads straight to the bedroom and everything about them sizzle. Aside from the sex that happens their relationship is very high strung because of the accidents which are happening to Karen. Marc will protect her at all cost by keeping her by his side and to help solve why these men would be after Karen’s father.
The bad guys are pretty clear as they take center stage at certain points of the book. The ultimate bad guy is clear as he is the one really running the show. He needs this package destroyed as it is evidence to a bigger crime that would incriminate and ruin him, and this time the bad guys wouldn’t get away with what has happened.
I know that I will want to finish up the series at least with the second book because that will have John Medina as the main character. I am interested in what will happen to him now that his father’s murder was avenged.
Nora Roberts brings two dynamic reporters to the page in Partners where they must join forces to discover who committed the crime.
“He had wanted Laural Armand for years, through professionally she was his nemesis. But once the two rival reporters headed down to steamy New Orleans to investigate a murder, Matt Bates was determined to make his lovely adversary his willing partner in passion.”
Nora Roberts brings in the reader straight into the plot as the characters are already at each others throats professionally but as they continue down the path the sexual tension that has been blooming strikes hot. Matt and Laural will be going down the path to bring in the murderer but they will also find what they have wanted out of each other.
Partners was entertaining to read and a fast book to complete. The characters of the two reporters were interesting, intense with secrets of their own and had desire. But the most outspoken character was the grandmother who was priceless. She didn’t give a damn about what she said or did and had no qualms about letting you know.
