Christian Duvall was determined to be the Lord of the South. All he needed to do was defeat any challengers as Anthony, the present lord, was stepping down. Although, Christian will find that Anthony will be a lot of trouble especially with the woman Christian wanted.
Natalie Vivant Gaudet was a forensic accountant who was working for Anthony but only because he had blackmailed her. She will be working at the office when Christian walks into the office. Natalie will instantly want Christian and she will do what she can to protect him.
Christian is the tenth book to the series Vampires in America by D.B. Reynolds. I really loved this book. I wasn’t sure how I would like Christian since his sire was Mathilda who was very evil. Christian for me was a character I could easily like. He was a warrior and had good intentions with wanting to be the Lord of the South. He was also very strong, much stronger than any other vampire had known. This helped with the fight scenes which were in the book and the challenges, and those fight scenes were intense. Natalie was a smart woman being a forensic account, which I loved. I thought that in the beginning she was a little too much with the desire for Christian but I of course wanted them together. I did like that she was a woman who could handle herself. She was by no means like Cyn but she could handle some of the bad things that had come her way.
Anthony was a very devious lord. I disliked him right away as he tried to cheat and used his vampire powers to do that. I was horrified that he wanted Natalie and would use his mind control to make her want him. Luckily Christian was a strong enough vampire to stop Anthony before Natalie’s fate was sealed.
Raphael and Cyn must face a dangerous situation when someone from Raphael’s past kidnaps him while he is in Hawaii. An enemy from Europe has descended and wants Raphael’s territory.
Deception is the ninth book to the series Vampires in Americas by D. B. Reynolds. I really loved this book. It was intense with Raphael’s kidnapping and how Cyn and the team find a way to save him.
Cyn’s character is once again a bad ass. With every book she is getting more and more blood thirsty. I don’t want her to appear so invincible but I do love the kick ass attitude. She is a woman who would do whatever she needed to protect her mate. I loved that Raphael and Cyn have a connection as that helps them talk to each other in their dreams, which was helpful.
The villain, Mathilda was pretty viscous but really only in the cunning way. She was a woman who liked to get her way and when she didn’t get her way she had a temper tantrum. Mathilda’s way of capturing Raphael was underhanded as she using a lot of vampires and magic. The magic aspect was interesting which it sounds like there will be more with Nick’s character. I had liked Nick in the first book because he was just a guy but I don’t want him causing problems. I just really hope that a love triangle doesn’t happen with Cyn, Raphael and Nick. It is not needed.
Paradise wanted to become more than to find a mate and have children. She wanted to find her real self and to do that she was going to join the Brotherhood. Though she will find herself being distracted when she starts to fall for one of her classmates.
Blood Kiss is the first book to the series Black Dagger Legacy by J.R. Ward. I really, really liked this book. One reason being the character of Paradise. I thought it was really great that there was another woman going to fight with the brotherhood. There are several but they are easily outnumbered by the guys. Paradise grew up with money but that did not have her become selfish or cruel to those around her. I liked that she was kind but she had a backbone.
The second reason I really liked this book was that Butch and Marissa were another big part of the book. I really liked Butch’s character. He was still very rough around the edges but you had to love him and how he cared. He just didn’t show it that well. I also liked he was training the new recruits with V.
So there was definitely romance within the book. For Butch and Marissa it was a rekindling of their romance. Then there was Paradise and Craeg. Craeg fought to keep his distance but that wouldn’t stop what was happening between them.
The next book will be out in December so I have a little of a wait but when it comes out I know I will be reading it.
Trez was destined to be mated with the Queens daughter thanks to his parents selling him to the Queen when he was a baby. Though Trez has no desire to be with the daughter especially when he has found a woman to love.
The Shadows is the thirteenth book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. I liked this novel but I will say that it took a little time to get into the story. One reason, and it is a reason that happens most times I read from this series, its the length of the book. I know that I should be used to the size as every book in the series is close to five hundred pages or over. Another fact is sometimes the detail. It can get a little too much, though that comes back to the size of the novel. Now don’t get me wrong I really do like the series, it can just get overwhelming with all the stories that are happening in the book.
So within this story the primary characters were Trez and his brother iAm. Although the rest of the brotherhood played a big part of the book, along with some of the enemies. Each of them have their own part in this story but it is all related to each other. I found that in the past couple books when the shadows were written in I wasn’t really all in to it. I liked just reading about the brotherhood and their enemies. I liked these shadows but I still prefer the brotherhood.
I liked Trez’s story, though it was hard to get to the end as you knew there would be a tragedy at the end. But because of that ending a happy ending occurred for another. I just hope that Ward will make sure those who sacrificed their happiness gets their own happy ending in another book.
I will follow up on the fourteenth book later on but I am switching to the spin off series Black Dagger Legacy. I will be reading Blood Kiss next.
Sherry Carne was a successful business woman but was unlucky in love. That will all change when a young girl runs into her shop and hides from four men who barged into the store. Sherry will find herself immersed into a world that was hidden from her and she will not be alone any longer.
Basileios “Basil” Argeneau is one of the oldest immortals. He had lost his mate right as Atlantis had fallen and has not found another life mate since then. That will change for Basil when he meets Sherry. Though before he can get her to agree to be changed he will have to protect her from danger.
The Immortal Who Loved Me is the twenty-first book to the Argeneau Family series by Lynsay Sands. Alright so I thought that this book was good, it wasn’t my favorite. Throughout this series there have been amazing books, great books, and good books. I guess I felt that Sherry and Basil went straight to having sex right away. I’m okay with that but I wanted a little more from the characters before they let the life mate passion overwhelm them. I found Sherry’s character a little strange at times but she was interesting being that she was very outspoken. Basil’s character was calm and collected. I found him interesting as he was Lucian’s brother. I can’t remember if he was in the previous books but overall I liked his character.
There was another character that I liked in the book which was Stephanie. Stephanie was a young girl that was changed to a non fanger by Leo as well as her sister Dani. I really can’t wait to read Stephanie’s story which I would assume Lynsay Sands will be writing. In this book she was playing matchmaker, she was like a mini Marguerite.
What kept me going was the mystery of the immortal that had been in Sherry’s life. It appeared that the mystery immortal had controlled Sherry as they programmed certain answers for her to respond when she was asked about a certain person. The answers are given and it was intriguing but at the same time not great with what the immortal did.
On a side note I loved reading about Lucian and Leigh. You got to know what was happening with them which made me happy especially with how they had a tragedy several books back.
I have About a Vampire, which is with Justin. Justin has been a character that has been in the series for quite awhile and I am looking forward to reading his story next.
Nick Jenner is the leader of the Blackpaw pack and takes protecting the pack seriously. He will stumble upon a new problem when a feral werewolf will leave his victim. Nick knows it is their responsibility to stop the feral werewolf but will be distracted by the new problem of Mia who was bit by the feral werewolf.
Mia D’Alessandro life suddenly changed from a romantic weekend with a man she liked to having him chase her in the woods and eventually bite her. Mia is terrified but the horror has yet to finish. She will learn that she will change into a feral werewolf and go insane unless she finds a werewolf to claim her, but Mia is hiding something else that she has been hiding since birth.
I had picked up The Wolf’s Surrender by Kendra Leigh Castle on a whim. I looked at the cover page and it sounded interesting, also the fact that I love paranormal book is another factor. The book is a novel and not part of a series but I can certainly see the promise of more books with these packs.
The characters were all about action in the book and how werewolf procedure was. I liked the insert of the magic and how Mia is not all she appears to be as it added more to the book. Overall I liked the book. I wasn’t enamored by it but it certainly held my attention to the very end. I will be interested in reading more from Castle.
Phineas McKinney has been a vampire, the good kind, for the last several years. He has helped in battle and become part of the team. His name the Love Doctor has earned him a reputation and one he now wants to forget. He wants to find actual love and not just one night stands. Phineas wants one woman from the first time he saw her but she is not one of them and she has no love for them.
Brynley Jones is a werewolf princess and was screaming to leave and now she is free, but her wolf is wanting something more. Brynley lust after Phineas even though he is a vampire and now she will get her chance when there is a problem near her home. She and Phineas will fight together and fight against each other until Brynley lets herself go, but all will not be well when she comes home as it will not be a happy reunion.
I have been following the Love at Stake series for some time now and have to saw I really love how Kerrelyn Sparks creates her characters to flow in and out of the stories. Wanted: Dead or Alive was fantastic for twelfth book in the series. I loved this book. Of course there were things that I hated like the father of Bryn. He is a horrible character that doesn’t really care for his daughter on the outside or at least shows little regard for her. If he is in the series anymore I hope that he gets put down a peg or two.
Sparks will keep the series interesting as there will be two big twist that I did not see coming which only adds to the ever growing series.
Try this book out if you like vampires, shapeshifters and werewolves. I do recommend that of course you start from the beginning to become drawn into the characters and immersed into the plot.
Below are the ones I have already read and loved every page. Check out the series and see if its one for you.
