Jennifer Ashley is back with the Mackenzies & McBrides series. A Rogue Meets a Scandalous Lady is the eleventh book to the series.
David Fleming is Hart Mackenzie’s right hand man. He was the one that got things done and did it in his own fashion. David was also always one for drinking but when he comes to his old tutors place plastered he will soon see a woman that will have him changing his ways. He wants to protect Sophie but also knows that he could never be with her.
Sophie, Lady Davenport was hiding at her Uncle’s place since her scandal was every where in London. She thought she would be alone with her Uncle but then David Fleming comes to their home. Sophie will be weary at first but as she spends time with David she will find that he hides the true man beneath the cynical words.
I love going back to this series. It has been one of my favorites. This book was really good. I enjoyed David getting his own story. At times I was annoyed with David in the past books because he was a threat between Eleanor and Hart, although that really would never happen. David was always and forever just a friend for Eleanor. I liked hearing more of David’s thoughts, he was thought to be very cynical man but he was much more and that made me like his character all the more. Now Sophie’s character was a vulnerable woman whose name was being dragged through the mud. I liked that she had backbone but she was also stuck and could not pull herself out of the scandal that was attached to her name. David and Sophie will help each other in their own ways and it is a sweet romance that builds between the two of them.
I had expected more of a retaliation from one character. A part of me wanted more with that conflict because it felt like the ending was rushed but the other part of me was happy to see how the author ended the story.
There is a novella that will be coming out which I know I will read. Can’t get enough of these Mackenzies.
Malcolm Mackenzie was the youngest of the Mackenzie brothers and the wildest but that will all change when he sees Lady Mary. Mal will want Mary and will change his ways but it will be difficult to be together in the time of war.
Lady Mary Lennox was being the dutiful daughter but when she sees the wild highlander something inside her changes. Mary will find herself helping secure her sisters future and changing the path of her own.
The Stolen Mackenzie Bride is the eighth book to the series Mackenzies/Highland Pleasures series by Jennifer Ashley. I really enjoyed this book. This series has been one that I have loved since the very first book with Lord Ian.
I thought this story was interesting with the history of the family that I had loved reading about. It was interesting to read that what the history was to believed over the years was not exactly as it was thought to be, especially when it came to the fate of the Mackenzies. Although, I will say that with all the brothers in the story it was a little distracting. I almost wanted to just focus on one brother which was Malcolm. Then again as the story progressed I became invested with the brothers.
Malcolm’s character was a man of honor even though he was a wild one. I liked that when he saw Mary, he knew that Mary was the only woman for him. Mal fought for his family and the ones he loved. Mary’s character was a proper daughter who did what she was told. I liked that even though she was that type of person she had a backbone, and that backbone grew with her interactions with Mal at her side.
I thought that this was a great finish to a series.
Ian Mackenzie and his family were first to arrive at Hart’s home for Christmas time. Ian will be woken abruptly from sleep. Quietly he will investigate only to find burglars in Hart’s home. Ian will be unable to stop the men but he would not rest until he found these men.
A Mackenzie Clan Gathering is a novella in the Mackenzie/Highland Pleaures by Jennifer Ashley. This novella is number 7.5 in the series. I really loved this novella.
I loved that Jennifer Ashely brings back the Mackenzie family for these gatherings. Of course the main focus was Ian and his family which I didn’t mind, as Ian is still one of my favorites. Now this story had some mystery to it with these burglars who had taken the items. You wonder who was the villain but that mystery will only be solved with Ian’s ability to solve problems.
So there was an added part to this story that was interesting. Ashely wrote in Beth’s brother in law who had come to help cure Ian from his madness. I thought it was interesting with how the brother in law was trying to help but I couldn’t help but feel that this was wrong. I loved Ian’s character because of how he was different, and anyways he had been getting better because of Beth and his children.
Well I am done with the series at least for now. There is only one more book to read in the series which will take you to the Mackenzie’s past with Malcolm Mackenzie. I will be reading this book but a little later.
Sinclair McBride was a skilled barrister and took his job seriously. He had little time for anything but his job, even his children. His children were known to run wild and go through governess’s. Sinclair will find a solution has fallen into his lap when Bertie agreed to be the governess.
Roberta “Bertie” Frasier was from the gutters of England and was a thief. She will quickly find herself going from thief to governess as she will be hired by Sinclair McBride, a man she had tried to steal from. Though Bertie will find that she wouldn’t just be a governess but also the woman for Sinclair.
Rules for a Proper Governess is the seventh book to the series Mackenzies/Highland Pleasures. I really loved this book. I was swept right into the story.
Bertie’s character was lovable. She had a goodness about her even though she was a thief. She wanted to be better, always tried to help and cared greatly. Sinclair was a man that was drifting through life but he will get an awakening when Bertie comes into his life. I liked that he started to loosen up and had become the man he used to be.
The lust between the two of them was steamy and very passionate, and there was a lot of sex. I don’t think those scenes overwhelmed the book but they were very present. It made sense with Sinclair as he had been a man that had run wild. He let himself live again with Bertie.
I loved the children, Andrew and Cat. They were adorable and starved for attention for their father. They will get along with Bertie because she takes the time to get to know them. If Jennifer Ashley keeps writing the series I hope she will will write some stories on the children of these McBrides and Mackenzies.
I have only one more to read which is The Mackenzie Clan Gathering.
Rose Barclay was hounded by reporters where ever she went. She was not good at dealing with them always but then Steven McBride will be there to help as he will provide a fake engagement. With Steven so close Rose will find herself falling in love with him.
Steven McBride was home for a mission which would only bring sadness to him and the receiver. Steven will delay the news when he stumbles upon Rose and will find it necessary to help her. Steven will find that with every moment he spends with Rose the more he will want her.
Scandal and the Duchess is a novella in the series Mackenzies/Highland Pleasures. This novella is number 6.5 in the series. I really liked this novella. It was quick and fun. I liked that Jennifer Ashley is continuing on with the extension of the McBride brothers.
Steven McBride is mischievous but you know that he is a good man. He works hard and is a man who understands honor. Rose is a young woman who has been through enough but she still finds herself able to help others. Together they are on a mission and things will get heated. It is lustful but there is a sweetness between them, and it builds to a sweet romance.
I liked the mystery of the two pieces of furniture that Rose’s husband left in his Will. I was intrigued with what the Duke had left for his wife and when you found out the mystery it melted your heart. I loved the thoughtfulness of the Duke, it gave Rose something in the end.
Lady Louisa Scranton knows that she should marry a wealthy and respectable man as that was what she was brought up to do. Though Louisa was not attracted to those men, she wanted a stern but passionate detective Llyod Fellows.
Detective Inspector Lloyd Fellows worked hard at solving crimes. He never cut corners or lied about a report. That will all change when Louisa Scranton is accused of murder. Fellows knows that she was innocent but he knew that the system still found the innocent guilty. He would do anything he could to help Louisa.
The Untamed Mackenzie is from the series Mackenzies/Highland Pleasures by Jennifer Ashley. This novella is number 5.5 in the series. I really loved this novella. Like the others there is that intrigue and mystery but this was an actual case where you got to read about how Fellows worked as a detective. It was different and intrigued me from start to finish.
The character of Lloyd Fellows in the beginning of the series was a hard man and one who hated the Mackenzies. Well he is still that man but there is more trust with his half brothers and he is becoming part of the family. I liked that Fellows was a ruff man, he had to be in his line of work. There is not a lot of gentleness, although when he is with Louisa it can be seen. Louisa’s character was not a spoiled woman, but she had lived the life of privilege. I think that Louisa was a smart and vibrant woman who did what she needed to do. She also had passion flowing through her veins which only heated whenever Lloyd Fellows was around.
The Mackenize passion is alive and well as it flows through Fellows veins. The heat between Fellows and Louisa is passionate and it compels the characters to be together.
The mystery of the murder was interesting. There were a couple bad guys and the one that looked to be the villain was not the main villain, although that character was bad in what they were doing. So the true villain was a surprise and I liked how Fellows finally figured out the truth and all was explained.
I decided to go back to the Mackenzies/Highland Pleasures series by Jennifer Ashley. I have read a decent amount of the series but had skipped over some of the novellas as they were never available. I am starting off with Mackenzie Family Christmas which is 4.5 novella of the series.
So the story plot is very simple, the family is getting together for Christmas time and whenever this family gets together its never simple.
What I liked about the book was that Jennifer Ashley included the whole family along with some new members, the McBrides. They will be getting their own stories in the series. I only read about Elliot McBride and really liked it. I have no doubt that I will like these other brothers.
I thought that the book was charming and it gave you more insight with what was going on in the characters life. I will say that I really love all the brothers, but Ian has always been my favorite. I loved his interaction with his wife, Beth, and his children. The surprise that Ian does for his family is magical.
I am going to be reading The Untamed Mackenzie next.
