Sophie Talbot hated society while her family loved it. She just wanted to get out especially when she insults a duke. Sophie will runaway which will have her sticking close to Kingscote. She loathed him on sight. All she wanted was to be free to have her own life. Though things will not go as she hoped especially when she starts to feel things for Kingscote.
Kingscote, the Marquess of Eversley, never wanted to love. He was perfectly happy being a rogue. He will be instantly annoyed with Sophie and want to get rid of her as quickly as possible but he will not be able to keep her away. Though through their journey King will find himself wanting Sophie more than he should. He will have to stop himself from truly acting like the rogue his reputation stated.
The Rogue Not Taken is the first book to the series Scandal and Scoundrel by Sarah Maclean. I really liked this book.
When I first started I wasn’t really sure I would like Sophie. She first seemed too silly but really she was the most practical of the sisters, and the bravest. She was stubborn to do what she needed but she was also very caring. I hated that she was overlooked as she was not the prettiest or looked as the boring one. Well Sophie will change that when she leaves which will cause a scandal in itself. King was a surprise. His reputation was telling everyone that he was a rogue and a scoundrel but he was not all that everyone thought. King was hurt long ago and that stayed with him and it shaped the man he was today. I liked that he really was a good man, he wasn’t perfect but he was a good.
The banter between Sophie and King was very entertaining and it kept me invested within the story.
I loved how Maclean ended the book because for me as a romance reader it was the perfect ending for these characters.
The second book is coming out and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
Edie liked cats better than people but for her friend she was going to be a bridesmaid. At the party Edie will meet the man she was going to walk down the isle with and is immediately disgusted with him, but when she starts to interact with him she will wonder if there could be more.
Magnus just wants to work on his game with his brother but his brother is the problem. Levi is in love and the woman he loves can not leave her sister, Edie. Magnus will have to pretend to like her so his brother can be with the younger sister. But then when Magnus starts to spend more time with Edie he will find himself falling for her.
The Taming of the Billionaire is the second book to the series Billionaires and Bridemaids. I really liked this book. The first book to this series was good but this one caught my attention and held on until the very end.
What I liked about the book was that it was an adaptation of the Taming of the Shrew. Edie played her part well as the shrew. But I found her really likeable. She was yes hard at times but nothing horrible. I liked that Edie was getting a chance a love again even though it started under false pretenses. Throughout the book I was waiting for the lies to stop and for Edie to find out the truth. You know it will happen but it unravels a lot more which had me disliking Bianca even more. So Magnus’s character was a video gamer programmer. He was pretty much a nerd which I loved. He got so wrapped up in his games that he was a little antisocial which matched him well with Edie. I didn’t like that he was lying but loved that true emotion was starting to bloom.
What I thought was adorable was when Magnus had adopted two cats. With the cats in the book my inner cat lady was being channeled. I only have one cat so I don’t know it that really qualifies me but I do love animals. My house was never empty of pets, we mostly had dogs, but I have always loved cats. I think the addition with these cats was a fun element to the story.
What I didn’t like about the book were two characters, Bianca and Levi. First off they were both very immature and cruel with how they were treating Edie. You will learn more on Bianca and I can only say is that is not a good person. She is a user. Levi is not too bad. For him its more on maturity. If he does get his own story I would hope that he matures a great deal. I really don’t want Bianca to have her own story because I think her character would never truly change.
It appears that the stories that have the characters from Gretchen’s bridal party is happening all at the same time because you found out about Sebastian and Asher within this book. Or at least their stories were already happening. I am reading the third book next.
Hunter Buchanan was a loner except for a few select people he let into his life. He kept himself sheltered because of the hideous scars that were on one side of his face to his chest. Hunter will find himself getting interested in one woman, Gretchen, who fascinated him. He lures her to his mansion but when he tries to get to know her he keeps screwing it up, until she helps take charge.
Gretchen Petty was miserable being a ghostwriter. It just wasn’t her passion but this new ghostwriting job will intrigue her. The job will have her going through hundreds of letter in a mansion. But the job is not the only thing that intrigues her, the owner of the mansion, Hunter, will have her curious and she will not stop until she truly knows Hunters’s story.
Beauty and the Billionaire is the second book to the series Billionaire Boys Club by Jessica Clare. I really, really loved this story. I know why, its because this book is loosely based off to the story Beauty and the Beast, and that story is one of my favorites from childhood.
So Hunter is considered the beast in this story who had a tragedy strike him when he was only ten years old. I was horrified with what had happened to Hunter at that age. It was even worse with his fathers betrayal. I hated that Hunter was so alone in his life but it was natural for him because of the scars that were embedded into his skin. I liked his character even though he was so quiet and angry. So then there was Gretchen who was vibrant and beautiful but she also had a temper. At times Gretchen annoyed me in the other book, she was so moody but that is just part of her character. I liked that she was a take charge type of woman especially when she wanted to help Hunter and get close to him.
It was predictable that problems would occur within the story but I liked how Jessica Clare wrote the situations and was able to find a way out of them for her characters.
I am so far loving this series and I am going to be reading the third book next.
Logan Hawkings was a billionaire and had been burned before with relationships. Though when he meets Bronte he will find himself falling hard. To make sure he wouldn’t be burned again he will test her while he keeps a distance, emotionally.
Bronte Dawson was on a free vacation but it wasn’t the paradise trip she had expected, especially when there was a hurricane. She will be rescued by a man who she found herself wanting to love but that will all change when she finds he had lied to her. Bronte will not stop loving the man but will be afraid to step into his world.
Stranded with a Billionaire is the first book to the series Billionaire Boys Club by Jessica Clare. Alright so I really liked this novel. Everything about this story is predictable but it doesn’t matter as I really liked the characters who kept the book going for me.
Logan was not a nice man and he had some trust and control issues. I didn’t really mind Logan and his control issues, frankly because it wasn’t that controlling. He needed to learn to trust that Bronte would not want his money but Logan goes about things very wrong and I liked that because it showed he wasn’t mister perfect. So then there is Bronte. She is someone who needed a break and she gets it but she doesn’t let this life consume her. It is partially because of her past with her father. I liked that she drew back from Logan but then didn’t like it at times. She was running because she was afraid of this new world she had stepped into with Logan.
The passion between them is well done and you can believe that Bronte would be swept up by Logan and his charm through the disaster. It would be hard not to form an attachment. Though I liked that Jessica Clare did not just make this into a fairy tale between the two characters. There were lies, some betrayal, still a lot of a passion, and both characters were scared to truly start something real between them.
After reading this one I am excited to read what will happen to the next set of characters. Well, I am off to read the second book to the series.
Dr. Jane Darlington wanted a baby desperately but most of all she wanted her child to be normal. That was why she was looking for a man who was not too smart. She set her sights on Cal Bonner but she will discover that Cal does not follow the typical cliche of jocks.
Nobody’s Baby But Mine is the third book to the series Chicago Stars by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I can’t get enough of this series. With each book I get lost in the plot and don’t want to stop reading until I reach that last page.
Alright so this book was all about Jane wanting a baby. She was a very smart woman who didn’t have a lot of common sense when it came to getting pregnant. When she tricked Cal I didn’t like it as you knew it wasn’t in her personality to be cruel. When Cal finds out he is furious and I thought he had every right to be mad. What I didn’t like was the amount of anger that was inside him because that led to a desire for revenge. The revenge you knew would not only hurt Jane but also hurt Cal. Now there were other times that I didn’t like Cal which was when he was just too superficial. He wanted the young women because he wanted others to believe he wasn’t getting older.
The relationship they had was troubled pretty much right from the start. There is no real love or even like between them. Jane is the one that will discover that true feelings start to unravel first which made it hard for her when Cal was so cruel to her, not physically but verbally. Again I felt that he was justified because she did trick him but after a while it gets overwhelming. I wanted Cal to get over his anger. Things will get better but there will be a twist that stops everything and has Cal realizing that he will lose Jane if he doesn’t understand what he needs to do.
There is again another story that is being told which is Cal’s parents, Jim and Lynn. They had grown apart without really knowing it and there was years of resentment that was between them, but there was love between them. They went through a journey that was similar to Jane and Cal. It took that journey for Jim and Lynn to find their happiness again. I also liked that Lynn didn’t back down.
Lady Madeline Matthews hatched a plan to get herself out of a marriage to a man who was older than her father. She was set out to ruin herself and knew the perfect man to do the job, Logan Scott.
Logan Scott did not trifle with young unmarried woman. He did not trust woman but there was something about Madeline that made him want to forget his rules.
Because You’re Mine is the second book to Capitol Theatre series by Lisa Kleypas. I really liked this book. Kleypas keeps you entertained with the couple eventually finding love and the little banter back and fourth. I liked that I got to read more with the actors that worked at the Capitol Theatre.
Kleypas writes the character of Madeline to be very entertaining. She is young and naive but she was also a very strong willed girl. Although when facing off with Logan she will find her courage and ache of love die as he does not reciprocate. Kleypas writes Logan sometimes to be a villain in a way. Though the reason for Logan’s anger is because he was betrayed by a woman, as I thought from the previous book, but there was more that was hidden about his life. Logan will be betrayed again and he will have to learn to forgive or ask for support. That support comes from Madeline even though he does not want it, he does but he wouldn’t admit it.
It’s hard to have the hero act like a villain sometimes because that will interfere with the happy ending. Although if there are not problems then the book can get very boring. For me Kleypas does not have that problem as all her heroes or heroines are flawed in someway but will always redeem themselves in the end. The romance reader in me cheers for those moments.
I am off to read another series from Lisa Kleyas which is Wallflowers.
Daisy Montgomery will do what she can to save her home. She will enlist the help of a Viscount who will come to help her. She will want more from this man but there will be problems along the way and half of them come from her step-family.
Charles Thorpe, Viscount Lumley, did not want to marry but he would help out a woman who was in need. He will come to Daisy’s aide when he comes to her home and finds that he will be enticed and want more with this woman.
If You Give a Girl a Viscount is fourth book to the Impossible Bachelors series by Kieran Kramer who is a new author I found.
Daisy is like the character Cinderella but has more of a backbone and had to put up with a lot more attitude. Daisy’s family was pretty cruel to her. Then there is Charles who was a playboy at times but he was a good man with a good heart. They worked well together and there was plenty of passion but that will get in the way with all the things they had to do.
There are plenty of twist going on in the story with how bad the step-family can be and all that Daisy had to put up with. I was surprised at some of the identities that were revealed and how much hatred there was towards Daisy. What kind of bugged me was how forgiving Daisy was to her family members, well not all of them. I guess I thought some of those things really shouldn’t be forgiven, but it was.
I was happy for the ending as it gave Daisy and Charles a way to be happy. Overall I liked the book as it was cute, it didn’t really thrill me. I will probably read the other books from the series but I am not racing to the shelves of my library.
