Hippolyta Royle was having a very bad night as she was running away from a duke who was blackmailing her so he could marry her. Hippolyta will find help from a man in a carriage even though he doesn’t believe her story.
Matthew Mortimer was on his way to his family home when his carriage was stopped. He will find a young woman who claimed to be an heiress. Matthew doesn’t believe the woman but he will help her anyways, then he finds out she was telling the truth.
Once Upon a Moonlit Night is number 10.5 in the series Maiden Lane by Elizabeth Hoyt. I really loved this novella. I loved that Hoyt starts off Hippolyta’s story right where the tenth book ended her part in story.
Hippolyta’s character was privileged but she wasn’t stuck up. She was a kind girl who was just trying to survive in this new environment. I thought she was a little too soft spoken at times but that was just because she was shy. She became more talkative about her life with Matthew which was what she had been hiding from everyone. By being brave and talking about herself gives her the strength to stand up to those who would look down upon her. Matthew’s character was a man who worked and now he had inherited an earldom which he wasn’t looking forward to having. He was determined to make things work, he was also a kind man as well as passionate. I liked that he showed that compassionate side and helped Hippolyta even though he had no obligation.
I am really looking forward to the eleventh book which I will be reading next.
Mac wanted Delilah from the moment that he had seen her but he had to stay away. He did not want to repeat past mistakes, but then Mac will have to help Delilah and he will find himself in close proximity to her. For Mac it will be hard to concentrate but in order to keep Delilah and her uncle safe, Mac had to keep his head in the mission.
Delilah had fallen in love with Mac but she knew he was just not interested. Though when Delilah’s uncle is taken she goes to the Black Knights, specifically to Mac, for help. She will be grateful for the help especially when she finds out there is much more to her uncle’s kidnapping.
Hell for Leather is the sixth book to the series Black Knights Inc by Julie Ann Walker. Its been awhile since I picked up a book from the author and I found myself not having a problem following along. Though I will say it took me a little time to get back into the book. It was mostly because I was trying to remember the other characters that were being mentioned in the book. Once I let go of that notion I sat back and enjoyed the book, and it was very enjoyable.
I found Mac’s character likable and a badass, but was a little annoying with his need not to fall for Delilah especially when you find out the reason he needs to stay away. I can understand his reasoning especially when you get the whole story but every situation is different. Mac can’t see beyond what had happened to him in the past. Then there is Delilah who is a vibrant woman but she had gone through a lot within the past couple of years. I liked that she stays strong but inside she is an emotional mess. That made her feel real.
Well there is some definite action that comes to the Black Knights thanks to Delilah. Through the first half of the book I was wondering why would the bad guys had taken Delilah’s uncle. The truth will be revealed which made sense for why the bad guys were going after the uncle and Delilah.
Celia Vallerand was on a ship with her husband who will be killed by the pirates. She will be abducted by these pirates and will fight for her freedon, but there will be no stopping these pirates. She will be rescued by a man called Griffin who was a Captain and a pirate. She will be shocked when he tells her that he will take her to the Vallerand family, but she will be more shocked to find out the identity of her rescuer.
Only With Your Love is the second book to the series Vallerands by Lisa Kleypas. I thought this was a fantastic book to follow up the first book, When Strangers Marry.
I was happy to read that this story was about the twins or at least one of them. Philippe will be married to Celia but will be killed by the pirates. Celia’s rescuer will be Justin although he is unrecognizable with his long hair and beard. There were times that I did not like Justin throughout the book. He was sometimes too cruel to Celia with his teasing and reminding her that she succumbed to his charm. He was trying to push her away but then he wanted her at his side. His character from the previous book had not changed that much but towards the end I was happy to read that he truly accepted his family, that helped him change at least a little. Celia was a woman in a horrible situation. Her mind fought the attraction but her body wanted the pirate, Justin. I thought she was strong in the sense of her desire to do right. She did not need to nurse Justin back to health but she did because it was right. Now although their relationship was not anything romantic it did end up that way.
The bad pirates are pretty despicable in the book and there will be a betrayal which will have Justin fuming towards the end and very well could have killed more than one person.
In the book you will find out that Philippe was not the saint that everyone thought and there will be a twist towards the ending which I was wondering if Kleypas was going to go that route. I was wanting her to but at the same time didn’t because it would disrupt the happy ending that I wanted. Well even with the twist there was a happy ending for everyone which I loved.
Captain William Langley lost the woman he had loved eight years ago. He will be surprised when the woman he saves on the ocean will be none other than Meg, the woman he loved and still loved. William will do everything he can to save her from the trouble that she is in and try to win back her love.
Meg Donovan has been taken from her home for eight years and has no desire to return to her family because if she did danger could get to those she loved. She will not be able keep away from her family as the man she loves will bring her home but she will do all she can do to protect her family and Will.
Pleasure of a Tempted Lady is the third and final book to the Donovan series by Jennifer Haymore. As this was the last book I thought Haymore wrote the story well and wrapped up this series with a good ending as all the sisters being all suited with the men they loved.
I was waiting for Meg’s story wondering what had happened to her as she was gone for eight years. She was strong in her conviction not to put her family or anyone she loved in danger. She was good at that but trouble only came to her when she wasn’t protected. William I liked. Wasn’t a fan of him when you found out in the second book about how he had a child. It was a mistake and he can be forgiven but it is a blow to Meg. Though true love which is what William and Meg have will always win.
The villain was obviously the Captain Caversham who was an evil man for the treatment he gave to his son, his deceased wife, Meg and anyone who crossed him. But as the saying goes the Captain will go down with the ship and I wasn’t upset about that.
Well as all the sisters are paired up the series looks to be over and overall I really liked this series. Each sister had their own voice in the book and they were all entertaining to read.
Romain Fornier has lost everything he held dear in life and became a shell of a man. He will not be interested in looking back on his daughters murderer but he will find himself being pulled into the case by Jasmine Stratford. She claim the wrong man was killed and that his daughters murderer and her sisters kidnapper are the same person.
Jasmine Stratford has been searching for her sister for sixteen years and she will never stop until she finds a body to bring home. She will be lead to New Orleans and find that the case might not be dead and that her sisters abductor was now taunting her after all this time.
Stop Me is the second book to the series Last Stand by Brenda Novak. So from this series I have read the first, the fifth and sixth book. I will say I am captivated by this series because it is not simple. There is a lot of violence that goes through this book and a great deal of mystery and suspense where you will be wondering what will happen next.
I very much enjoyed the book with Jasmine’s character as she was a psychic you could say. Her gift will be used in this process of trying to find the man who is taunting her. I liked her feelings or her dreams she had as they were vivid but didn’t happen every time and she was even wrong some of the time. This gift was not an exact science. Romain was a man living in his own hell. He is brought back thanks to Jasmine who gives him a purpose to live again and to find the true murderer of his only daughter. Now there is that steamy connection that happens between Jasmine and Romain and it will get intense but because of their situation it is not very easy. I will say it was interesting when Jasmine was able to tap into Romain’s dream and that got very steamy.
The mystery of Kimberly and was she alive or not was the major question through the whole book. You really don’t know much but as the story goes along more clues on what happened to Kimberly were revealed little by little. I thought Novak does a good job with Kimberly and you will will find out for once and for all what happened at the end of the book.
The villains are pretty clear in the book as Novak lets us in on their parts in the book. They are some pretty horrible people and sick minded with what they were doing. You wanted justice for all those victims who could not find justice for themselves. Now what is unclear is this mystery person who is kind of like the guiding force of this group. There are several possibilities and I was shocked to find out the identity of this person because I was not expecting that person.
I am reading the third book, Watch Me, next which is with Sheridan.
Miss Sarah Clarke-Townsend was taking a walk with her very pregnant sister when several men started to follow them. Sarah heard that they were after her sister and there was no way she was going to let that happen. Sarah convinced the men that she was the Duchess that they were looking for. Now all she had to do was find a way out of their clutches which was looking to be very difficult.
Rob Carmichael was a disgrace to his family when he turned to become a Bow Street Runner. He was good at his job and that will come in handy when his good friends sister-in-law was taken. He will search for this woman and get her to safety but their adventure would not be over.
Sometimes A Rogue is the fifth book to the series Lost Lords by Mary Jo Putney. I liked this book, it was something cute to read and I went through it pretty fast.
The character Sarah was quiet and shy at times but in a time of crisis she became a different person. She was brave and determined to keep her sister safe no matter the cost. Rob was honorable even though he said he wasn’t. He was a smart man and got the job done, whatever his case may be. The two of them traveling through Ireland does spark something between them and a fire is lit that brings passion. Their kind of love were not their first as they had loved and lost before. I kind of liked that. They both shared that loss which made them realize how precious love could be.
Annie O’Sullivan was closing up her tour when a man will ask to view the house. She will give him the tour but soon will find herself at gunpoint. She will be taken to a cabin and will find out she wouldn’t be coming home for a very long time. Annie will survive a year in this man’s cabin where she was beaten, raped and ordered around. When she finds her escape she will find that coming back to her old life will not be possible as she will never be the same woman.
Still Missing is a novel by Chevy Stevens. This book was read for my book club and it looks like we are back to the psychological thrillers. Personally I don’t mind as I like these stories with their twists that you don’t see coming and yes they are at times very uncomfortable but they make you think. There is also a lot to discuss with these kind of books which is ideal for a book club.
So first thoughts on this book was that it was a gripping intense thriller. It made me nervous and I literally got up and made sure my front door was locked.
Annie was a fighter and what I liked about her character was that she felt real. The things she had to do in the book were unbelievable horrible and I couldn’t believe how brave she was to fight him and then give in to save another. I cringed each time Stevens talked about what was going on to Annie. I cheered for her the entire time to survive and find a way out. Also you know that she escaped as the book goes back and fourth from past to present and in the present she is telling her psychologist the story of what happened to her. So you know she did escape which helped me when reading the book.
Now there were characters I liked and disliked throughout the book. Obviously the man who kidnapped Annie was one I hated but there was another person who I didn’t like. That was Annie’s mom. She was way to selfish and made Annie feel like crap for not caring when it should be the mom caring for her daughter. The mom will show signs of caring but then be selfish again. It is always about the mom and never anyone else. One person I liked a lot was the cop, Gray. He was tough but caring and he did the job right. I liked that he didn’t treat Annie like a permanent victim especially when they met the first time.
So the villain is obviously this mystery man who kidnapped and raped Annie for over a year. He was scum and a sick sadist. I was thrilled with how in the end Annie dealt with him and escaped. She was a true fighter, but it seemed that she was not done fighting. I was wondering how the story would be continuing as she escaped around half way through the book. So what was going to happen now? It could have been all about Annie and how she had to cope with it all. Now it was that but it looked like trouble was not over for Annie as another attempt to kidnap her happened. I was shocked. The question then becomes what is going on? I found it interesting that it went towards the route that someone had this all planned, someone possible close to Annie. So I wouldn’t say who was doing this to Annie but there is someone behind it all. You will find out and be disgusted by this person, at least I was.
The ending, well I really wasn’t sure how it was going to end but I thought Chevy Stevens ended the book appropriately. There was enough there to let us know that Annie would be alright or at least on the way to being alright.
