Dane MacKenziew was back home after ten years. He will be surprised when he sees the woman he had loved was back home as well. Dane will immediately feel their connection that never disappeared, but he will quickly find out that Charlotte was hiding something.
Charlotte Munroe had left her home town at eighteen and it took her ten years to come back home. She thought she was safe there as she knew the man she loved was nowhere around, but that will not be the case. Her first and only love will be back and she is shocked that he wants her back.
Dane is the first book to the series The Mackenzie Family by Liliana Hart. Alright, so first off I really love series that involve a good size family because that lets the author write many stories and who wouldn’t love hunky men. Well I am sad to say that I wasn’t thrilled with the story. This was one of my first novella’s I read from Liliana Hart, and although she can write good sex scenes that is all there was to the story. I wanted more out of these characters.
Warning I am going to be giving away the plot in case you want to read this novella. So, it drove me crazy that Charlotte who had been in love with Dane at eighteen just welcomed him back after some really hot sex. In the book she was not wanting to give the man a second but she quickly let him back into her life. If this was a novel that would be okay because there would obstacles they would have to get threw to get to that happy ending. Now with Dane’s character you get that he wants her back but why did he wait ten years to do so? Then the big bombshell, which was pretty easy to guess, he finds out he has a nine year old son. He wants to be part of his son’s life. Now I would think he would be furious with Charlotte, she kept his son from him for nine years which was a long time. Well he was angry for about a second then he has sex with Charlotte again.
Alright, so from all of that I really don’t think I will be back to this series. I might try something else from the author, perhaps a novel instead. Only time will tell.
Victoria Slade is trying to find Mr. Right but so far things haven’t been going right especially when she has a break-in. Victoria will have to move which is where she will meet Ford. She will instantly think him a player but as they work together she will find that was not the case.
Ford Dixon is trying to help his sister find out the guy she had slept with and he will get help from a neighbor. He will want the neighbor immediately but will find her difficult. Ford will do what he can to win over Victoria and help his sister.
Suddenly One Summer is a novel by Julie James. This is not part of a series but it does have characters from the series FBI/US Attorney. I thought this was a good book to read.
I haven’t read anything from James for a while but I will say that she is a good storyteller. I kind of wish she embellished on the scene with the break-in that happened in the beginning. I liked where that was going, though how she created Victoria to have a panic disorder after that felt very real which I liked. Someone who goes through a break-in would not go unaffected. I liked Victoria’s character, she was a little hard but being a divorce lawyer probably made her more jaded. Though I did like that she was able to help out Ford’s sister. Ford’s character was the laid back kind of guy and kind of a player but not a serious one. I wanted Ford to break down the barriers and really get to know Victoria which he will, it just takes a while.
I thought the part with the sister was sweet and I was glad that everything worked out for the best.
Quick’s book will come at no surprise as two characters will find love in the mist of murder and blackmail.
Anthony Stalbridge is hunting for his fiancee murder. He knows that she did not kill herself jumping from the bridge. His suspect is Elwin Hastings. He will come closer to the truth with the help of Louisa Bryce. She has he own reasons for searching Hastings. Anthony will help Louisa with her search and they will find companionship within each other.
Amanda Quick writes very playful characters that are entertaining to read and interact well. Anthony’s family is a delight as they are not the usual set of society and Louisa is not the usual widow.
The plot keeps the reader involved as the blackmailer is slowly unmasked and those who were thought to be murdered by one was not who you thought.
The River Knows is a great mystery romance book that will take you back to the Victorian time.
