Close Contact

Miles Dartman was an ex-MMA fighter and was starting new work as a bodyguard. He will be blown away when the woman who he had a couple one night stands with will be asking for his help. Miles is a little suspicious but he will quickly find out that she was telling the truth.

Maxi Nevar was never going to look up her one night stand but she had no choice as someone was after her. Maxi had received a large inheritance and a farm house since her grandmother and mother’s passing. She will quickly find that having that money will not always be a good thing.

Close Contact is the third book to the series Body Armor by Lori Foster. I liked the book. The first couple pages were very intriguing and disturbing. Maxi wakes up disorientated near her property as she had been drugged. That will be her wake up call to get help. It was an opening that pulled me into the story.

Miles character was a strong man who had been burned by a woman, but he just wanted another chance with her, especially when he sees her again. Miles will be very protective of Maxi and will be suspicious of many but mainly her family and ex boyfriend. He will stop at nothing to get to the truth. Maxi’s character was a woman who had been through a lot and needed to find herself again. It was hard when she thought someone had been after her. So the intriguing thing was Maxi’s character had received an inheritance which usually brings out people from your past, but there will be a twist that I didn’t see coming which I thought was well done.

The next book to Body Armor series is coming out in March, Fast Burn.

Don’t Tempt Me

Don't Tempt MeHonor’s life was complicated and did not have time for any attachments. She will find that attachments will come quickly when her life will be invaded by helpful neighbors. Though the only one that really got under her skin was Jason.

Jason will meet his new neighbor and instantly will want her. Though as he gets to know her a protective side will emerge and Jason will find himself protecting her, at least once she lets him in.

Don’t Tempt Me is the latest novel by Lori Foster. The last one that I read was for me good but not my favorite. Don’t Tempt Me was a novel I got into right away. There was enough mystery to the story with Honor that lead to heartbreak but it wasn’t overplayed. Also, the romance was built up, they didn’t just jump into sleeping together within the first chapter.

Honor’s character was a woman who had been put through a lot in the past two years. She was exhausted but was determined to do everything she needed. I liked that Honor was independent and she did not just give into Jason’s help. Jason’s character was a man who did his work and helped his family. He was someone who did what they could for someone in trouble. Pretty much Jason was the perfect man, but it wasn’t so perfect that got annoying. I will say that Jason had alpha tendency’s, but to be fair it seemed all the guys in the story had that same trait.

So Honor’s extended family was pretty horrible. They were greedy and very insulting when it came to Honor. Her great aunt confused me. She was helping, at least that is what it seemed, but she was going about it a strange way. I liked that Jason and her neighbor and friend wanted to help. They stood by her so Honor would not feel alone anymore. Though Honor was not weak, she showed her strength at the right time.

There was a side story with Sullivan (one of Honor’s neighbors) and Lexie (Honor’s best friend). I liked their story but it definitely could have used more detail to really get to know the characters. My main focus was on Honor and Jason and how their story was being told.

Say Yes to the Marquess

Say Yes to the MarquessClio Whitmore was tired of waiting for her fiance, Piers Brandon, to get her to the alter. After eight years she was done waiting. She wanted out of her engagement and to do that she had to talk to Piers brother Rafe. But Rafe will not want her to get out of the engagement. She will be shocked when he will start to plan the wedding.

Say Yes to the Marquess is the second book to the series Castles Ever After by Tessa Dare. I really liked this novel. It was cute and charming.

Clio’s character is a woman who wants to now live life and it was only fair since she had waited over eight years for a man who had made a promise to her. Clio I think was strong for being able to finally walk away and for taking control of her life. I liked the idea that she had come up with to make a living. Then there is Rafe’s character who is a prizefighter and very rough around the edges. I liked Rafe but he was at times a little too controlling when it came to making sure he got his way. Although he was a good man as he was just trying to make sure that he did right by his brother. He was especially being a good man as the woman his brother was to marry was someone he wanted.

The ending was sweet and charming. I liked how Dare resolved some issues that were coming between the characters which gave the happy ending.

I am reading the third book next.

Three Proposals and a Scandal

Three Proposals and a ScandalLady Marianne Seaton had been jilted by a Duke but as the lady she was she made the most of it. She smiled towards society and moved on with her life. That life would soon change as her father had all but told her she would marry a man he picked out but the man that has Marianne wanting more was Elias Thorne.

Three Proposals and a Scandal looks to end the series Sons of Sin by Anna Campbell. Although, you never know if more will be written on this series. So I really liked this novella. I was wondering if Marianne would have her own story.

So the story is simple, Marianne is being courted by three men. Lord Desborough, the man her father wanted her to marry. Then there is Lord Tranter, who Marianne didn’t exactly trust. Lastly, was Elias Thorne who was the man Marianne didn’t want to want. He is of course the man that I was cheering for because he was not the fortune hunter everyone thought he was. Elias’s character was a man in love with Marianna. He loved her for the woman she was hiding, not for her fortune.  I liked Marianne’s character. She was a dutiful daughter but there was another side to her than the good society miss. I liked that Campbell had Marianne fighting an inner battle inside her. She did not just fall into Elias’s arms and pledge her undying love. Elias has to work for it and Marianne had to learn to trust.

The other two suitors were the complete opposite of each other, one a villain and the other a good man. The villain was a horrible man and I liked how Campbell ended his story. There was then her father who almost was like a villain. He didn’t believe his daughter when she told him the truth. His pride was too strong but it wouldn’t be a line severed forever. So, I ended up really liking the good suitor and kind of hope that Anna Campbell writes a story where he will find the woman he can love. Though it that doesn’t happen I’m still very satisfied with how the story concluded.

No Limits

No LimitsCannon Colter’s goal was to go for the title but there will be a bump in the road that he will first have to get through. Cannon will find out he is part owner of a house and pawnshop with Yvette. Cannon will take this opportunity to get to know Yvette again and to protect her from danger that will surround her.

Yvette Sweeny did not want to come home to settle her grandfather’s estate but she has to. She will be shocked that Cannon was named as part owner, but will be even more shocked when Cannon wants to stay. She knows that he is being a hero again, but after a while she will start to wonder if he truly wants more.

No Limits is the first book to the Ultimate series by Lori Foster. I could not put this book down. It completely reminded me of the SBC fighters series which I have devoured over and over. When I read the prequel I knew already I would love this series and it was reinforced when I completed this book.

I think you can guess that I really did love this book, I am a big fan of Lori Foster. The thing that I liked about this book were how the characters were written. Yes the fact that Cannon was a fighter and extremely sexy was a big plus, but that was not the deciding factor. If an author can make me like the characters then I know that I will really enjoy the book. With Foster’s characters they are not just there, there are emotions and a very detailed backgrounds that for the most part are not pleasant. The tragedies that she gives these characters give them more depth.

Cannon’s character was a tough and caring guy. He made sure to back off when he needed and went all in when it was needed. I was excited to read his story especially when he was introduced back in Love Undercover series. Yvette’s character had been through hell three years ago and it haunted her still. That made Yvette very guarded, which led her to being closed off when it came to sexuality. Cannon will be able to help Yvette open up and feel things that she had been trying to stay buried. I also liked how Yvette’s character faced trouble. It was realistic, a little naive, but it felt real.

So there was a twist with who ever was after Yvette. There were a couple choices that I had thought were the bad guys, but Foster blindsided me with the person who ended up coming after her. Well the people I thought were guilty were still guilty, they had their own part in the twist.

I am looking forward to reading more about these fighters. I will be reading Denver next and then Stack. I will have to wait for Armie’s story but not for long as it comes out February.

To Wed a Wild Lord

To Wed a Wild LordLord Gabe Sharpe is a daredevil when it came to racing and because of that a friend of his was killed. To make amends he will try and help out of the Waverly family by marrying Virginia Waverly. He will find it challenging when all the woman wanted to do was race him but thanks to a wager he wins the right to court her.

Miss Virginia Waverly wanted revenge against the man who had killed her brother. The problem is when she looses the race he gets the right to court her and she will learn that maybe Gabe was not totally to blame for her brothers death.

To Wed a Wild Lord is the fourth book to the series Hellions of Halstead Hall by Sabrina Jeffries. Another great book from the series. What had kept me invested was the relationship between Gabe and Virginia. They were at odds but there was more to the story. I wanted to know what had happened that day between the friends. Jeffries keeps you with questions right until the end of the book but there are hints that are written throughout the book with what had happened.

Gabe was a daredevil and a risk taker but was a good man as he tried to do the right thing. Virginia was a good woman who only wanted to know the truth and to right a wrong. Together they should not have worked since there was that animosity between them, well at least on Virginia’s side. Virginia was mentioned in the third book and she certainly showed her dislike towards Gabe. In the fourth book Gabe and Virginia make it work and there is definitely passion between them. I also liked that they shared a common like which were horses.

I felt that in this book the murder of the parents took a step back in the book. It was not mentioned as much the others were. Though the answers that are needed will be given in the fifth book which I will be re-reading next and then finish up the series with the sixth book.

Married by Midnight

Married by MidnightLord Garrett Sinclair was back home after seven years due to a request by his family. He was to marry which would ensure his inheritance and he could then go back. Garrett did not want a marriage made out of love and that was what he was getting but as he spent time with Lady Anne he was becoming weakened by her. He wanted more from this woman.

Lady Anne Douglas looked at a marriage of convenience to be her way out of her Uncle’s home and to ensure her own freedom as she would receive an allowance to live on her own. With having a ruined reputation Anne would take what she was given and it will surprise her when she starts to feel things for the man she was going to marry.

Married by Midnight is the fourth book from the Pembroke Palace by Julianne MacLean. I liked the story. I was immediately swept up into the characters and plot that MacLean wrote for the series. This book was a novella so much shorter than the other books from the series but still very entertaining to read as MacLean captures her characters well.

Lady Anne was prepared for a loveless marriage due to her mistake which resulted in a ruined reputation. Then there was Garrett who wanted a loveless marriage as well due to a betrayal. All in all they should be perfect for each other. They would marry and keep away from each other but that rarely happens especially because they have to portray a happy couple around Garrett’s father who is quite crazy. Through this love starts to blossom there will still be Garrett roadblocking them from that path, but it wouldn’t be for long.

Within the story there are plenty ups and downs and I felt for the character of Garrett and the relationship he had with her father. It broke my heart but in the circumstances you could understand why things were said. I liked that those fences were being mended but it was only because the father literally went a little crazy.

So now that I have read the second and the fourth book I will have to find the rest to finish up the series.
