Unlaced

UnlacedLucy Abbington did not want a season but to appease her father she went. Lucy though has no desire to wed as she knows that her husband would demand she stop her healing animals. She will be tempted to give up everything to be with one man.

Henry, Lord Mandeville, did not want to marry especially anyone his mother wanted him to marry. Henry would marry but only a woman who would elevate his position in parliament. When Henry meets Lucy he will immediately want her but knows he can’t marry her.

Unlaced is the first book to a series. I am not sure what the name of the series is called as there are two names for this book series. One is Undone by Love and the other is Ashton/Rosemoor. Well never mind about the title of the series I loved this book. The book left me smiling. I had read the second book five years ago. I had loved the second book but getting Kristina Cook’s books were hard to do from my library. So I gave up and moved on to another series by another author. Well I am back with Kristina Cook and I have more books of hers to read.

I loved Lucy’s character. She was a fun character who had a backbone and a drive to do what she loved, which was to heal animals. She had a passion for medicine but because of her gender getting a degree was impossible. I liked that she wasn’t like the other woman who wanted Henry for his title. She didn’t want him but she will be tempted because of the man and of course lust. So Henry’s character¬† was a love/hate one for me. I liked Henry for his drive to be better but he was too critical and power hunger. Not exactly like his mother but he was trying to marry a woman who would elevate his position in society. Though when you get to know his character more you will fall in love with Henry, its another side of Henry that was gentler. Now with him there are plenty of things that he does wrong, especially when it comes to Lucy. I will say that he does redeem himself in the end.

Now there were some villains in this book. Mostly they are “the mean girls” who are too stuck up. Well one person that I thought was the worst was Henry’s mother. She was a vile woman who was power hunger and was not a kind woman to her son.

I am re-reading Unveiled and then on to the third book Undressed.

Dearest Rogue

Dearest RogueLady Phoebe Batten needed to live her life but her brother the Duke of Wakefield kept her from the life she wanted because she was blind. Phoebe would not let her brother stop her from going out, though she would be followed by her ever present bodyguard, Captain James Trevillion.

Captain James Trevillion job was to protect Lady Phoebe from danger. Until recently it was just to make sure she did not get hurt from falling down, now she is in real danger from kidnappers. James will do anything to protect her from the danger.

Dearest Rogue is the eighth book to the series Maiden Lane by Elizabeth Hoyt. Absolutely loved this book, is definitely one of my favorites from Hoyt.

I had been hoping that Phoebe would get her story since she had first been mentioned in the second book. I wasn’t sure if she would since she was going blind but I am happy that Hoyt wrote the story. Phoebe’s character is full of longing. She wants to explore and be normal but her eyesight has faded. I like that she does not give up, though its hard with her brother who is keeping her too protected. Throughout the book Phoebe will get braver and learn to really fight for what she wanted. Now James has been around in the book for quite sometime as a man of law. He gets injured which has him going from the law to bodyguard of Phoebe’s. I didn’t really know if I liked James because you didn’t really know him but in this book you get to know the man and there is much more to him. I found his past interesting and liked that you got to read a different side to him.

The danger for Phoebe was the kidnapping, and there were several. It was James’s job to protect her from this danger. So the person behind Phoebe’s kidnapping was not acknowledged until close to the very end but there was a twist at the end with the danger that surrounded Phoebe.

Well I had previously said that the character Duke of Montgomery had intrigued me, he still does but he is definitely more villain than I had thought. I will be interested in reading his story, if he has one which I hope because I would wager he is not quite the villain that he portrays especially when you can see he loves his sister.

So mentioning his sister, Eve, she will be in the ninth book of the series which comes out later this year. In this book Eve was not a villain but she certainly played a part that put others in danger. Can’t wait to read her story.

A Creed in Stone Creek

A Creed in Stone CreekSteven Creed is an attorney who will find himself becoming a guardian of an orphaned five year old boy. He will move to Stone Creek to be near his family and to make a home for himself and Matt. While Steven was making a home Matt wanted to complete his new family with a new mom, the prosecutor Melissa O’Ballivan.

A Creed in Stone Creek is the first book to the series Creed Cowboys by Linda Lael Miller. So when I started this series I had read the second book then the third book and I am finally finishing the series with the first book.

Well as a whole I liked the series. Personally for me I liked the first book as it was a good book but I thought the other two were better. I guess I was just more intrigued with the twins in the other two books. Although Matt was pretty entertaining to read about and I thought the build of romance between Steven and Melissa was good.

I was happy to read the series because I don’t read a lot from Linda Lael Miller. I tend not to read tons of stories with cowboys, its usually ballrooms and rogues for me, but its always good to change things up.

Remember Me

remember meMargot Radcliffe had runaway from her home but will be back when tragedy strikes her family. Margot and her sisters will work together to try to save their family’s farm. The only problem was she had to try and hire back Travis who had rejected her all those years ago.

Travis Maher loved working with horses and was good at his job. He will be back working at Rosewood but will find that being that close to Margot was too tempting. He will succumb to his desire and show her that he had wanted her even back then.

Remember Me is the first book to the Rosewood Trilogy by Laura Moore. I had read the third book, Trouble Me, and thought it was a pretty great book. I will say that this first book was also a great book to read. Laura Moore captured me with the story and I kept going until the very end hoping for that ending where Margot and Travis finally get to be happy.

Margot was a woman who was thought to be spoiled but she was not really. She grew up privileged and then broke free. She went on her own to become a model and she had made it big. I liked that she defied her father and did not conform to what he wanted her to have. When Margot comes back to the farm she had to balance her career and to save her family farm. She is a strong woman who was doing what needed to be done, which lead her to rehire Travis. Now Travis was a man with his own past but he had become more than that. I liked Travis for the most part even though he hurt Margot, it wasn’t the right time for them to be with each other. They will get together and sparks will fly between them.

I liked the sisters and how they interacted with each other. Jade’s story I have already read and I thought it was interesting to read more about her and her rebellion that she had as a teenager. Now Jordan I felt bad for when she finds out some bad news which will carryover into the second book which is Jordan’s story.

I just now have to read the second book and I will be done with the Rosewood Trilogy.

The Creed Legacy

the creed legacyBrody Creed was back in Lonesome Bend to settle down and to repair the rift that had torn apart his family. He will be building a house for himself but a woman to share it with was on his mind. There was only one woman, Carolyn. The only problem was that he had screwed up years ago with her.

Carolyn Simmons had her heart broken by Brody years ago and it still hurt to this day. With him back in town she had to see him often which had her wanting things she knew would be bad for her heart.

The Creed Legacy is the third and final book to the series Creed Cowboy by Linda Lael Miller. I thought this was a very engaging book that left you with a smile on your face as the Creed brothers found their happy ending.

When I read the previous book I had wondered about Brody’s story. Towards the end you got to hear what had happened to Brody which was tragic though it wasn’t the complete story. Miller will fill in the gaps with the third book and you will feel bad for Brody for losing the woman he loved but cheer him on since he was being a good man. Although there was part of me that thought he was being an idiot for not telling Carolyn what had happened sooner. I get that it was tragic and he was hurt but so was she. Well Brody will get a second chance with the woman he loves even though it is not an easy path that he will be taking. Carolyn doesn’t make it simple on him and I liked that but she had a big heart and will open it again for him. She is a vulnerable character thanks to her past but she is also strong.

Well I have now read the second and third book to the series and I only have the first book to read to finish off the series.

Paradise County

Paradise CountyAlexandra Haywood had come to her fathers house in Shelby county after his suicide. She had come to close up his house and sell off the horses. Alex will be distracted by the man she had tried to fire, Joe, and the strange noises she had heard in her house.

Paradise County is a novel by Karen Robards. I loved this book. The story flew by as I wanted to read it as quickly as I could so I would be able to find out the killer.

I really liked Alex as a character. She was not a snob but a girl who had lost her father and was trying to do the best she could. I liked the humor of it when she tired to fire Joe but he would not allow her fire him. There was a sinister part of this book which was that someone was watching Alex. Everyone thought that she was imagining things but the killer was watching her and waiting. I liked Joe. He was a strong character. He was a tough worker and a great father. I liked his teasing ways but he could be a very serious man, he was someone perfect for Alex.

Alright now Neely was the little sister and a hell raiser. She does not deserve what happens to her but she is a troubled kid. I liked that towards the end she is a stronger version of herself which redeems her character.

The killer was very evil and sadistic with his victims. One of his victims was a surprise to Joe. I cringed at the idea of him getting his hands on Alex or her sister Neely. With the identity of the killer I was surprised by the person but it made sense that he was the predator as the facts were revealed.

In the book there was a very small part which was paranormal. Alex and Neely both at one point during the book had seen their deceased father. I liked that with each time he appeared he was trying to help his daughters. His last scene was a nice send off for the book.

To Wed a Wild Lord

To Wed a Wild LordLord Gabe Sharpe is a daredevil when it came to racing and because of that a friend of his was killed. To make amends he will try and help out of the Waverly family by marrying Virginia Waverly. He will find it challenging when all the woman wanted to do was race him but thanks to a wager he wins the right to court her.

Miss Virginia Waverly wanted revenge against the man who had killed her brother. The problem is when she looses the race he gets the right to court her and she will learn that maybe Gabe was not totally to blame for her brothers death.

To Wed a Wild Lord is the fourth book to the series Hellions of Halstead Hall by Sabrina Jeffries. Another great book from the series. What had kept me invested was the relationship between Gabe and Virginia. They were at odds but there was more to the story. I wanted to know what had happened that day between the friends. Jeffries keeps you with questions right until the end of the book but there are hints that are written throughout the book with what had happened.

Gabe was a daredevil and a risk taker but was a good man as he tried to do the right thing. Virginia was a good woman who only wanted to know the truth and to right a wrong. Together they should not have worked since there was that animosity between them, well at least on Virginia’s side. Virginia was mentioned in the third book and she certainly showed her dislike towards Gabe. In the fourth book Gabe and Virginia make it work and there is definitely passion between them. I also liked that they shared a common like which were horses.

I felt that in this book the murder of the parents took a step back in the book. It was not mentioned as much the others were. Though the answers that are needed will be given in the fifth book which I will be re-reading next and then finish up the series with the sixth book.
