Eve Harmon was dreading another birthday where she would once again be alone. Though this year she would take a chance on the wild side and have a one night stand with a very complicated man that will change her life.
The Heart of Christmas is the seventh book in the series Whiskey Creek by Brenda Novak. First off I did like this book. Now it has been a while since I picked up a book from Whiskey Creek which was only because I was very angry with the story line that happened with Chey. Now I think I was able to enjoy this book because its wasn’t focused on Chey, though she was there in the book. I do hope that the secret will come out with Chey and that she is the one to tell Dylan so Dylan doesn’t feel all the way betrayed.
Alright enough with my frustration with Chey, back to Eve and Rex. I liked Eve who was a good person and always did the right thing. Eve was not necessarily a perfect person but she made herself out to be like that. I wanted her to get angry especially with Ted who was trying to be nice but to me he was getting annoying. She does stand up and address her feelings which I was happy for. Now the character of Rex was certainly a different type of character from those in Whiskey Creek. Rex was on the run from his past who were some pretty dangerous men. At first I will say that Rex was not a character I really liked. I thought he was too closed off and too cold to Eve. Then you get to know the man and realize there is more to his character than you think. Rex is a pretty complicated character that had a lot to deal with in his life. For Rex it takes him a really long time in the book to finally get that he should have a chance at happiness with someone like Eve.
There is the threat of danger in the book which comes from Rex’s past and I thought it was interesting with how it was handled and especially who had helped.
I decided since this book for me was a success I am going to follow it up with the eighth book in the series which I will be reading next.
Makenna James and Caden Grayson had met in an unusual situation. They had been trapped in a dark elevator for several hours. Within those hours a bond had been formed and since then they had been inseparable for the last couple of months. They will be taking the next step with going home to Makenna family. Caden will be nervous but excited. It will be then that he will realize that there were things that needed to be worked out and he would have a decision to make.
Love in the Light is the second book to the series Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye. This books was amazing. I thought the first book was good, well the second book is even better. You get to know Makenna and Caden really well. Laura Kaye does an impressive job with writing the sequel.
I loved these characters and their story. I felt their emotion and was drawn into their lives. Makenna was a sweet heart and I loved that she was so caring with Caden. She knew what he needed and she was all in when it came to the relationship. Makenna was the perfect girlfriend and I have to say that she wasn’t so perfect that it was annoying. Now Caden’s character had a darker past and it was beyond tragic. Because of this tragedy Caden was more of a mess than you really knew.
Throughout the story I knew that a problem would happen and Kaye does a great job with the issues that come up between them. What she did even better was find a way to help Caden sort through his life and get it back on track. That was an uphill battle but one that was done really well.
All I can say is that I want more from the James’s family. I am hoping that Laura Kaye will write about Patrick and Ian. It seems that Colin has someone to be with but that might change. I don’t know if she will write anymore with the James’s family but I would certainly read their stories.
Holly was not having a good day when her car suddenly would not start. She will be stuck in the parking garage until her boss comes out and helps her get home. She will be surprised that Declan will start to notice her. His hungry stars will make her start thinking things that she could not have with her boss.
Dec the Holls is a standalone novel by Jasinda Wilder. Obviously this is a Christmas novel. I thought that this was a fun and sexy novel.
Lust and love begin to form quickly for Holly and Declan. Normally I would say that this went a little fast but it was that type of story where everything moved fast. There were sweet moments especially when Declan interacted with Holly’s children. I liked both characters of Declan and Holly. Holly was the overstressed mom down on her luck while Declan was the overstressed boss who was feeling unlucky in love.
Their love was a slow build, well it went fast, but it wasn’t them just jumping into bed and having sex. Declan seduced her but seduced her in a way that felt he cared for Holly and wanted something more.
Dec the Holls was a good sexy holiday story that can be enjoyed anytime of the year.
