Kiss At Midnight

Miss Kate Daltry is on a mission to become her stepsister and meet the prince who would become family. Kate knew it would not work but would do it for Victoria. Kate will come to the castle but her getup will not fool everyone especially the prince.

Prince Gabriel is waiting the arrival of his bride and meeting his nephews soon to be bride. He will be stunned to feel an attraction to this woman, but he will be even more stunned to find out this woman is not who she is pretending to be.

Kiss at MidnightKiss At Midnight is the first book to the Eloisa James series Happily Ever After. When I found these books I was instantly intrigued as I love when authors take the classic fairy tales and remake them in their own words. Grabbing several books to the series from the shelves I made this my project for the next several days.

Now Kiss At Midnight is clearly the fairy tale Cinderella as you can tell by the picture and the world midnight in the title. I have read many stories on the remake of Cinderella over the years but I have to say I really enjoyed Eloisa James remake. There are several little twist in the book that I did not see coming and it molds how the story is going to be told. Kate is a fiery woman who speaks her mind and has a sharp wit  She wants romance but she knows her limitations and a prince is certainly not in that equation. I liked she was not one to swoon or to cry at a mere problem but held back her feelings until they were unbearable (at the end). She also fought the attraction to the prince whenever she could. That was funny as Prince Gabriel is not one to have someone ignore him. Aside from the proud prince he was pretty fantastic as he cared more for his own people than his own happiness. Throughout the book I hoped that there would be a chance for love but as anyone knows true love in fairy tales always comes true so I wasn’t too worried.

I thought this book was a great start to this Happily Ever After series. I don’t know if James will continue with characters from the first book which it seems all had been given a happy ending. So my bet is this will be a whole new story with new characters. Nevertheless this is a series I think will be very enjoyable.

Lessons from a Scandalous Bride

Miss Cleopatra Hadley is on a mission to find a husband and she has her eye on an elderly gentleman reaching his eighties. He was the perfect person as he would not be able to sire any children which would keep Cleo from making her mothers same mistakes. As she is about to complete this mission a new man comes her way making her heart feel things she never experienced.

Lord Logan McKinney is in need of an heiress for him family and home. He had set his sights on one woman but another has his attention. She is about to become engaged but Logan will not have that happen as he believes she is the one that will be a perfect fit with him.

Lessons from a Scanalous BrideIt was only by chance that I had come across the book Lessons from a Scandalous Bride. This is the second book of the Forgotten Princesses series. As I like reading the series together I also grabbed Sophie Jordan’s first book again, Wicked in Your Arms, just to refresh myself with the story.

For me I love how Jordan keeps her characters well developed and intriguing throughout the story. The plot is simple but with the past that is driving these characters you are given a lot in the book. I loved how Cleo was determined to not become her mother but the ever persistent Logan was not giving her any room to flee. Throughout the book there is no real villain like in the first book. Cleo and Logan do though make it hard on themselves as to admitting their own feelings leaving it only to the very end. I thought the ending though was very touching and left you on a very happy note.

This was a charming story and I like that Jordan introduces another half sister making her most likely the next leading lady to have her own book.

Wicked in Your Arms

Grier Hadley is the illegitimate daughter of Jack Hadley and for three years she has now lived with her biological father. Jack wants her married along with her sister Cleo. Grier wants that as well. Marriage to a respectable gentleman would give her a home and a future. Grier though will find herself in the Prince’s eyesight. She finds him annoying but his eyes and his touch sends shivers down her spine. She knows that she can never be queen but to feel passion Grier will make a choice.

Prince Sevastian Maksimi is in need of a wife of good standing and a large dowry. There is no love required as he is only finding a bride to make his grandfather who is sick happy. Sevestain will find one who makes his blood boil but she is not one for marriage because of her illegitimate status. Sevestain though will try to convince her to become his mistress and will succeed but feelings will start to get in the way.

Loved this story. Wicked in Your Arms was a story that pulled me in at the very beginning and only got better. This is the first book to the series Forgotten Princesses from Sophie Jordan.

She engrosses you into the story until the very end. Now the plot of a Prince coming to love a woman of lower status is not the most likely thing to happen but that is why this is a romance novel. I really liked that Jordan made Grier to be strong in her own way and practical. She wasn’t going to throw caution to the wind with a man who offered to make her his mistress, at least not right away. Sevastian is your average prince but throughout the story he changes and his own feelings come to the forefront and you see a new prince altogether.

Jordan keeps the characters interesting as through the majority of the book there are nothing but kisses, teasing and fighting feelings to entice the reader to keep going. Also there is a hidden villain. You have the normal society who are cruel to those weaker or with a scandal attached to their name but there will be a villain you don’t see coming. Well if I thought about it yes you could have guessed but I was very much into the story.

Cleo Hadley will be next to marry to abide her fathers wishes in Lessons From a Scandalous Bride.

Simply Irresistible

Lucky Harbor series has so far four books that are to be part of the series. I ended up picking the only one available which was the first book, Simply Irresistible. If I was not already a fan of Jill Shalvis I would have been after reading this book. This was a book I didn’t want to put down. I had to which was annoying but definitely didn’t want to stop.

Maddie Moore is just one of the sisters of Phoebe but Maddie was the one that knew her mother the least. She was considered the mouse too quiet, but all that was going to change. With one third of the ownership of the inn Maddie will venture into restoring this inn and trying to change her life without men but that will be short lived as she meets Jax.

Jax Cullen is a man who has found what he had been missing five years ago. Jax is an ex lawyer who is now a contractor and mayor, and who happens to own a lot of property. But Jax is going to find something to distract himself with. Maddie and Jax will let the steam in but will it be too much to handle as their pasts get in the way.

I loved how Jill Shalvis sets up the next book. You know certain things but now you need to know especially about Tara the older sister. But I did like how Shalvis is separating the sisters with their own story. Each sister will have a chance to be the focal point but the others are not forgetten.

Shalvis does well with not being afraid to show that sexual desire which steams between the two main leads. And her continual use of secrets will lead the reader wanting to know more. Simply Irresistible was purely that, irresistible.

Sweetest Thing is the next book in the series and I can’t wait to find out about Tara and her secret past.

Concannon Sister Trilogy by Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts brings Ireland back to the pages with the three novels, Born in Fire, Born in Ice, and Born in Shame in the series of the Concannon Sister Trilogy.

Born in Fire

Maggie was a loner, liked it that way unless she was with people she loved.  Like her father who she loved more than life it’s self.  Or her sister Brianna.  Maggie tolerated her mother to the best she could but there was no love lost on either side.  When Maggie started to sell a few items of her glass tragedy hit Brianna and Maggie.  Their father died while Maggie was with him.  But he left a small mystery behind him, who was Amanda?

Maggie and her sister continued to live their lives.  Brianna setting up a B and B and Maggie with her glass which was now making more interest as Rogan Sweeney came into the picture.

Rogan Sweeney, art dealer, already got hold of some of her pieces wanted to make Maggie famous.  He wanted her work, it intrigued him.  He comes to her with an offer but Maggie doesn’t agree at first.  She doesn’t trust him but she finally gives in.  Of course that is not the only thing that Rogan wants, he wants Maggie.

Maggie is overwhelmed with the new life that was being given to her but she didn’t want it all.  She liked certain aspects but wanted to be at home to do her art.  Maggie’s heart only had room for her art and family but now it was making room for other possibilities with Rogan.

Born in Ice

Brianna owns a small cottage that is a B and B.  She is loved by her sister Maggie and her brother-in-law Rogan who are now expecting their first child.  Brianna was not happy but content with her life because there was no other option.  She was at ends with her mother and now she had lost her beloved father.  Life had just been moving along until the Ireland storm brought in her expected guest Grayson Thane a few days earlier.

Grayson Thane “Gray” is a big time mystery writer, who is writing his next book set in Ireland.  The moment he gets to the cottage he is overwhelmed by Brianna.  For a while Gray doesn’t do anything to intimidate but then he can’t take it anymore, he goes after her.  He seduces her to his bed.  Brianna doesn’t except his pursuit at first but finally she gives into what she had been missing all this time.  Brianna knows Gray will not stay forever but that doesn’t stop her from loving him.

Through the book Brianna will live a new life but the past is creeping up behind her as she finds that her father lived a loveless marriage and fathered another child to a woman, Amanda, that was his true love.  Maggie and Brianna are determined to find their half sibling and the woman their father loved.

Born in Shame

A happy life was all Shannon knew, now her life was turned upside down when her mother told her the truth about her father.  Colin who was her father was not her true father.  Tom Concannon from Ireland was Shannon’s true father.  Her mother, Amanda, told all that happened between herself and the two men that she loved.  Hearing the news of her mothers lies Shannon was furious with her but couldn’t really express all her anger and hurt towards her dying mother.   As Amanda closed her eyes she never woke up.  Amanda slipped into a coma and died soon afterwards.

A few days after the funeral she meet a man who was commissioned to track her down.  Her sisters wanted to meet.  At first Shannon declined and pushed the man away then a letter came from Brianna.  Shannon decided to take the journey to Ireland to find this new family but more importantly to find herself.

Shannon gets to Ireland and is overwhelmed by everything there but especially this new family.  As she meets them and finds herself living with Brianna in the inn she doesn’t know what to do.  Brianna wants to befriend her, Maggie doesn’t trust her completely and but finds a way to understand.

Shannon seemed to come to some understanding with her sisters and their mother but the thing that was confusing was the amount of attention which Murphy would pay towards her.  Murphy saw her and knew that she was the one that he had been searching for now the only thing to do was to make her understand this.  Shannon was pulled  into the journey of finding family, love and herself.

Reading these books were fun and entertaining.  They were all very charming with the characters and the plots.  There was a nice flow to the books when each girl had her chance in the story but in each one they overlapped.  You never forgot about the characters.  Each sister was unforgettable and I loved how even though they were all different there was a relationship that couldn’t be broken even for their half-sister.

Nora Roberts showed a wonderful modern day style of romance set in Ireland.
