Dean Robillard stopped when he saw a woman in a giant beaver costume which lead to him giving her a ride. Though Dean will not be able to get rid of Blue and soon will discover that he might want her to hang around.
Blue Bailey has had a string of bad luck. She will find that maybe her luck is changing when she hitches a ride and lands in Tennessee. Blue will start over once again but will find that maybe she might want to settle down.
Natural Born Charmer is the seventh book to the series Chicago Stars by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. This book is the last book to the series and was another fantastic novel.
Blue’s character was a drifter thanks to her childhood. She shielded herself from those who loved her and from herself loving anyone. You wanted her to let her guard down so that she could love and receive love. Dean’s character was someone who had his own messed up background. I liked that he made something of himself and he became gentler on the ranch, not that he was mean but he also shielded himself. On the surface they looked like they never would be together but they will look beyond and find that there is more than meets the eye.
The other story is with Dean’s mother and estranged father, a groupie and rock and roll singer. I liked this other story as it brought something more to the story. The parents will learn to live with each other again and that will mend hearts but its an up hill journey for them and Dean. The added character of Riley was adorable, Dean’s half sister. I loved how she started out as the insecure girl but grew into a young woman who was becoming her true self.
Alright so I thought that Blue’s mom was good for the work she did for others but she could have been a little more thoughtful to her own daughter. I guess it didn’t matter as Blue finally made peace with it all but it would have been nice for the mother to be there for her daughter.
Well now that I am done with this series I am taking a break from Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but I know I will come back and read more of her books.
Gwendoline, Lady Muir, was a widow thanks to a freak accident taking away her husband. Feeling guilty Gwen will live her life with no one at her side as she vowed never to marry again.
Hugo, Lord Trentham, was a solider coming back to a life that is almost foreign to him. He will be instructed that it will be time to find a wife but has no real desire to do so. His thoughts though will turn towards a widow.
The Proposal is the first book to the series Survivor’s Club by Mary Balogh. Now I liked the book but I wasn’t blown away by it. It was something to read and it was good just didn’t get me overly involved with the plot.
What I did like was Hugo was persistent and both of these characters had some sort of tragedies that led them to a more solemn way in the world. They will both heal each others demons that had been plaguing them. Because of that part in the plot I thought the name of the series, Survivor’s Club, was very appropriate.
I will probably try the next book in the series but probably at a later date.
Poppy Hathaway was in love with one man but thanks to another that love would never blossom into marriage. She will not be forced into the decision of marriage to this villain but knows that it needs to happen as she has been compromised. Poppy hoped to make it work but the more she found out how she was manipulated she was hurt. She will have to forgive her husband in order to survive her marriage.
Harry Rutledge was a wealthy owner of a hotel but he would not be considered a hero. He knew secrets and used them to get what he wanted. He wanted Poppy the moment he saw her and was not put off by ruining her slim chances with the man she loved.
Tempt Me At Twilight is the third book from Lisa Kleypas series Hathaways. With the first and second book behind me I was looking forward to Poppy’s story as I am liking the series more and more with each book.
Poppy was young and in love but she still had a head on her shoulders. She will do what she had to, to deal with and try to find the best in her husband. Kleypas keeps them distant as she was in love with Michael but if it was a perfect love then Michael would have fought harder. Now Harry was to be considered the villain of the book without a doubt as he used secrets to get what he wanted. He did that with Poppy and Michael’s relationship because he wanted her, but as you find out more about him you soften towards him. He was a hero but in the shadows. With Poppy’s help he becomes more of the man he was meant to be but there was of course the ruthless side that would never go away.
I will be reading the fourth book next and I am excited to find out what will happen between Leo and Cat.
Nash Barron liked his life in his hometown but with his estranged brother back he had not been one to want his big brother back. Now that some time has passed Nash is learning to forgive after all these years with the help of Kelly. As this all happens Nash will find new facts about his life.
Kelly Moss settled into the town Serendipity to be close to her half sister. She will be finding herself getting closer to Nash and sparks will fly between them but she doesn’t want to lose her heart to him.
Destiny is the second book to the series Serendipity from Carly Phillips. From start to finish I liked the book. There were little surprises that revealed secrets of the characters, Nash and Kelly. I was intrigued by the book and found myself flying through the pages.
Nash was a hard man with a grudge but he does lighten up throughout the book. Kelly was hiding her own secrets that embarrassed her for her poor judgment, but in reality she did everything she could. She grew from that experience which hardened her a little, much like Nash. But both did find a way to be together, it helped with the steamy connection that happened between them. I had wondered for a little if his ex wife was going to be a problem but she wasn’t. In fact she had her own love story in the book with the bartender Joe. They were pretty quick to have their own happy ending. Kelly and Nash had a harder time finding that peace that would bring their own happiness.
I went and looked for more books from the author and saw some other books that are part of the series Serendipity with characters Kate and Lissa getting their own novellas. It also looks like there is a series called Serendipity’s Finest which I wouldn’t mind reading. Since she does have a lot of books out from other series I will have plenty of choices to pick from.
Faith Harrington knew coming back to her hometown would be hard but she had to start over. People were not overly friendly to her thanks to what her father had done but she was determined to make it work. She had not expected to encounter Ethan the bad boy that made her feel things still after ten years.
Ethan Barron was the bad boy in his youth and for the last ten years he had felt guilt over that time where he left his brothers on their own. He is back in his hometown hoping to start over with his family. He will be surprised with a half sister and find the one woman he had wanted for the last ten years.
Serendipity is the first book to the series Serendipity by Carly Phillips. I had read the third book of the series and liked it but I wasn’t completely into the story at first. For the first book I easily got into the story of Faith and Ethan.
This was a good intro to the series and about the brothers. You feel for Nash and Dare who were all but abandoned by Ethan when their parents were killed. Then again you feel for the eighteen year old Ethan who was carrying too much guilt and was considered a screw up. Faith had her own demons she had to face but she was able to get out of her situation alive mentally and have the determination to start over. Ethan and Faith were similar in the idea that they both needed a way to start over.
I really liked the addition of Tess. She was a handful for the brothers. I liked how Phillips made her exactly how a teenager with all that she went through would act. She also did a good job with the brothers and how they feel with their older brother, and how the town condemns Faith for what her father had done.
I am reading the second book next with Nash and Kelly. I am intrigued how their relationship will start as I have read the third book and already know the outcome of their story.
Juliana Fiori has lived with scandal since she set foot into London. She will find most are two faced with the exception of her brothers. She will be heart broken when the man, Duke of Leighton, is very much like the rest of London. She will be determined to show that the Duke of Disdain has passion whether he liked it or not.
Duke of Leighton, Simon Pearson, or the Duke of Disdain as he is called needs to marry to make sure his family’s reputation survives. He will find the perfect woman to marry but he keeps thinking about one that is not suitable for someone of his station. Simon will fight the attraction but he will be shown a new side of himself thanks to Juliana and its one he wasn’t too sure he wanted.
Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke’s Heart is the third and final book to the series Love by Numbers from Sarah MacLean. It was a book with up and downs with the characters who were fighting their attraction every step of the way.
So I really did like the book but Simon got under my skin. He was all about a good reputation and he looked down upon anyone who was not his equal. He was stuck up and very proud. He kept hurting Juliana even though he truly wanted her. I felt bad for Penelope who was engaged to Simon and how she did not get her happy ending but know that she has her own story in MacLean’s other series, Rules of Scoundrels, and a happy ending will be hers. Though it still takes years for Penelope to get to that point so it was heart breaking but I wouldn’t want her to be in a loveless marriage especially when Juliana and Simon were meant to be together. Juliana was a spitfire and determined to make her way into society even with all the cruel things people say behind her back and too her face. I liked that she was determined to make Simon to feel passion. Now the ending was perfect as Simon was not the perfect Duke but a man who was now flawed and loved a woman without caring about her status.
There is a little surprise with the St. John’s mother coming back to England and its kind of horrible at how bad of a mother she really is to her children. I liked that Juliana finally saw that she was nothing like her mother.
Now since I am finished with the series of Love by Numbers I am switching to the series Rules of Scoundrel. I am first going to re-read the first and second book then move onto the third book, No Good Duke Goes Unpunished, which is sitting in my pile of books.
