A Lick of Frost

So I was wrong partly. A Lick of Frost did not really have Frost center stage in fact Frost plays a disappearing act.

Staying in a small conference room was bad enough without the pressure of defending themselves against the King of Light. Three of Merry’s guards have been accused of rape of a Seelie lady. They are lies all part of the King’s plot. Merry will now start fearing the king more as his attentions become clear that he is interested in her more as a woman. With a battle looming in the background Merry will not only fear the King but now mourn the loss of one of her beloved guards and for the safety of her children.

A Lick of Frost was not as quick as the fifth book but it was a quick read for me. You are pulled into the story quickly with the turn of the first page. I liked the addiction of lawyers in the first part especially the one that was more immune to them.

I was happy that Hamilton finally had Merry get pregnant but the surprise is who is the father to these twins. I liked the twist and not terribly surprised especially as this is supposed to be the fey and magic is all around them.

As far as the series goes I am liking it more and more as we are coming to more an a conclusion especially with the ending of this book. Of course the ending is really nothing much to be too happy with except wanting to see the King killed for his actions.

I am very interested in the next book to find out what will happen with Merry and her men.

A Stroke of Midnight

A Stroke of Midnight is the fourth book of the series Meredith Gentry. Laurell Hamilton is upping the anti with the amount of  threats that will be coming Merry’s way.

Getting pregnant can be stressful enough but with the added threats that were building it was almost impossible. Merry will come back to her Queen as the threats had gotten worse that even the police were called in to help. Merry will find little support of the sidhe until they find out that the ring has come back to life and children of the sidhe were not impossible.

Having the ring act as matchmaker for the sidhe was inventive on Hamilton’s part. I liked that Nicca was in this part with the matchmaking. You will meet the character Biddy who will be for Nicca. With more power the Queen is not happy. I like to think that maybe Merry will become stronger than the Queen even though she is still mortal. That would be a good twist at the end.

New powers are also coming back with tattoos being displayed on some of the guards bodies and Merry’s. These tattoos were a thing of the past.

Hamilton does a good job with keeping Cel in the book as well even as he is still being tortured. His followers are doing his bidding. Of course punishment will come swiftly as the Queen will deal with the traitors. She will punish the traitors but never the real traitor, her son.

More guards are introduced female and male. A healer will join Merry and the other guards. Along with Mistral who will be making his presence known.

The fifth book will be all about the storm guard, Mistral.

A Caress of Twilight

Finding the first book intriguing I went off to search for the second, A Caress of Twilight.

Merry is now surrounded by her guards and in America away from the queen. Her task is to get pregnant as fast as she can but something will interrupt their effort. Hollywood actress and exiled sidhe will come to ask for help. Maeve Reed wants a child with her husband who is about to die. Merry will help but more trouble is brewing beyond the horizon as the Nameless has been released.

I found the book fun and different to read. By now I am used to Hamilton’s way of sex in her books. There was a good amount but not tons, of course the series is still early. There will be more to come especially as the plot is all about Merry getting pregnant.

I liked the concept of the fey. I don’t read a lot of books with magical creators. The characters of Merry and her guards were fun to read. I of course like them all but my favorite is Doyle so far.

Maeve Reed was a piece of work. I liked that she still acts like a royal of the Seelie court. I think that the King of light will be a problem through the series. Looking forward to reading the next chapter with Merry and her guards.

The Vampire’s Bride by Gena Showalter

In the long battle between allies and enemies of Atlantis it is time for Layel, King of vampires to have his time in the spotlight in the fourth book.

He is Layel, king of the vampires, a master seducer no woman can deny.  But since a rogue horde of dragons killed his beloved over two centuries ago, Layel has existed only for vengence…until he meets Delilah.

Wary of love, the beautiful Amazon wants nothing to do with the tormented vampire.  Yet there’s no denying their consuming desire every time he nears her.

Neither trust the other-nor can they survive alone.  For in an impossible game of the gods’ devising, they’ve been trapped on an island, about to face the ultimate challenge: surrender to the passion that will bind them forever…or be doomed to an eternity apart.

The series of Atlantis intrigued me since picking up the first book and since then I have liked reading about the characters and their interactions they have through each book.

The love story is of Delilah and Layel but there is a few others that are fighting the attraction which is being felt.

I liked that there was the tension and the attraction right away but I found it more meaningful that Showalter doesn’t automatically throw them into bed.

The plot had some interesting twists and it was a real survivors game where the losers are killed and only one can be the victorious.

The fourth book was entertaining to read and enjoyable but I am curious about the next one.  I believe it will follow up with Nola and Zane and see where their destiny lies.

Jewel of Atlantis by Gena Showalter

All Atlantis seeks the Jewel of Dunamis, which legend claims can overcome any enemy.  Grayson James, human agent of the utlrasecret Otherworld Bureau of Investigation, has orders to keep it from the wrong hands-or destroy it.  What he doesn’t know is that Jewel is a woman, not a stone!  But once he meets this precious gem, destroying her is the last thing on his mind…

Jewel, part goddess, part prophet, needs Gray’s help to win her freedom.  Gray needs her wisdom to navigate monster-ridden Atlantis. But need blossoms into passionate love as they battle demons, dragons and vampires-and fight for a future that seems impossible…

The second book to the series Atlantis is fantastic to read.  Reading the book I found it is a series but can be read out of sequence and will not get confusing.

Gray is amazing in the book with his character flaws and attributes.  Jewel is a gem, no pun meant, but she is a great character to read about.

The same sexual situations arrive and happen throughout the book for Gray and Jewel which is fun to read about.

The story line is fun and again imaginative with the world of Atlantis.  And there are some characters that are back and mentioned from the first one.  You hear about what is happening with them.

The second book, Jewel of Atlantis, was fun to read and entertaining.

Secret Life of A Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks

The series Love At Stake is a hit.  Kerrelyn Sparks brings creative characters and a dynamic plot to the pages with each book.  Her sixth book,  Secret Life of A Vampire brings those characters back to the pages but this time Jack has the floor and will be assisted by Lara a police officer.

The Plot of Secret Life of A Vampire:

“A typical bachelor party is all about beers and beautiful women.  A vampire bachelor party is no different-except the men are drinking Blissky (whiskey-flavored synthetic blood).  And no one can throw a party quite like Jack, the illegitimate son of the legendary Casanova.  But when the party gets out of hand the cops show up, Jack has some explaining to do…if only he wasn’t stuck speechless by the beauty of officer Lara Boucher.

Lara is sure there’s something more than a bachelor party going on.  What is Jack hiding?  And why is he so interested in the recent disappearance of young women all over town?  Her investigation uncovers more than she wants to know, especially about this modern-day Casanova.  But if she’s ever to make detective, she’ll need to expose all his secrets…if only her heart wasn’t on the line.”

Jack and Lara are a perfect pair.  They are able to combine forces while getting their hearts tangled.  I liked this story for the fact that Lara is another strong women but she is immune to Jack’s control, to any vampire mind control.  That gives her a great advantage and will let Jack know that his heart is on the line as well.

Having the son of the Casanova is a nice touch.  I liked the use of historical characters mixed in with fiction and the use of gods and goddesses even if they were the bad vamps.

Finally the story brings the were-animals more into the light and Phil will be coming center stage in the next book with Vanda.

Kerrelyn Sparks is a clever writer bringing the very traditional vampires into a new light.  A fantastic series to devour over.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth

Rick Riordan brings back Percy to the pages with his friends in the fourth book, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth.

“Percy Jackson isn’t expecting freshman orientation to be any fun.  But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears on campus, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse.

Time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near.  Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Krono’s army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders.  To sotp the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Layrinth-a sprawling underground world with stunning surprise at every turn.”

Every time I pick up the next book by Rick Riordan I know that I will be reading an amazing story of Percy.  The scenes and characters are well rounded.  You get attached.

Percy is on the next quest with Annabeth leading the show which makes them go into the labyrinth.  The labyrinth which is a place that not many find ways out and if they do they might not be in the same shape that they went in.

I was excited that Rachel makes her second appearance in the series.  I like her there as an unusual mortal who sees more than those around.  She will be a big help when Percy and the rest will take their quest into the labyrinth.  You will see old and new friends making an appearance in the book.

Annabeth is an intriguing character as she helps Percy but she still hopes to get Luke back, which I am afraid she will find is impossible for Luke is not himself anymore.  Luke is not the half-blood that he used to be.  Kronos found the use for him and could be their downfall.

I love that Percy will also find a family.  His mom being with Paul, soon to be husband.  But also Poseidon will also make an appearance and father him the best he can.  Of course that is not always possible for the gods.

The trip to the labyrinth will be a challenge for all those who enter.

I was astonished with the fourth installment of Percy Jackson.  There was wit, humor, adventure, saddness, destruction and hope all wrapped up in this book.  Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth is just another fantastic book in this creative series.
