Divergent

DivergentBeatrice Prior has to chose where she belongs. She has five factions to chose from and Beatrice will leave her own to follow Dauntless. But Beatrice will not be safe as she will have to guard herself from those who would see her fail and find out her secret.

Divergent is the first book to the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth. I stayed away from the book for a while because I don’t always go into the fad books, at least right away. Divergent is right up there with Hunger Games and Twilight for popularity. I decided to read the book because I saw the movie. The movie for me caught my attention so I figured I would give the book a try.

First off I liked the book. The plot was very similar to the movie with the occasional detail added or deleted. So I did not get lost and the book flowed pretty nicely. I am not saying that this was the most amazing story but it was an entertaining one that was enjoyable.

There are many characters that are in the book but obviously the main one is Beatrice who was an interesting character. I liked the struggle that is given and the secrets that lie within these fractions. I am looking forward to finding out more on this divergence as the series goes on.

The romance is cute but sometimes with these books I feel that it doesn’t need it. That it shouldn’t be the main point of the book but rather the action and who they are trying to defeat. I don’t think that Roth overplays the romance but I will say at the end there is more and more interaction between them.

I liked the idea of these factions in society and this seems to be a big push I am seeing in other books. Although survivor books have always been popular but I guess I am seeing more because I am trying out these books. These are not my normal everyday books but they do grab you if  it is well written. There is another point that I want to ask which is, what is behind the fence? I am sure that will be told but I am betting in the last book.

I have put myself on the list for Insurgent as there is still quite a lot of people who are wanting to read the book, but my library has a lot of copies of the book. It shouldn’t be too long till I get the book.
