Sugar Daddy

Liberty Jones had dreams of leaving, but when circumstances change her life is forever altered. Liberty does her best to do everything she could for her sister. Their lives will change when Liberty meets the Travises family but things will get complicated when her past shows up.

Sugar Daddy is the first book to the series Travises by Lisa Kleypas. I liked this book a lot. I found it dragging a little in the beginning but it was needed as you got to know Liberty’s character.

Liberty’s character was interesting. She was kind and tried her best especially with her sister. Where many would give up, she kept going. What drove me a little crazy was her obsession with Hardy. It was annoying as she kept comparing every man to one heated kiss she had received from Hardy years ago. I almost wanted them just to have sex so it would be over and done with. I figured once it was done they would figure out they wouldn’t last. Of course I was glad they didn’t as that would really end Liberty and Gage.

The Travises family were good people and very wealthy, but they were hiding something and that will connect them to Liberty. The hints are there and pretty easy to figure out. Within the family I really liked the father, Churchill. He was a kind older man who wanted friendship from Liberty. Gage, Churchill’s son, wanted more from Liberty. I liked Gage for the most part. He grew on me as he interacted with Carrington and Liberty.

Throughout the book I didn’t really like Hardy. He wasn’t a character I was rooting for. Yeah I am happy he helped Liberty in her childhood but he truly was ruthless and I think cared more about himself. Not sure how I am going to like him in the next book but I will try it out. I am reading Blue-Eyed Devil next.

A Match Made in Mistletoe

Serena Talbot has loved Paul since she could remember. She had been waiting for him to take notice and to know he wants to be with her as well. Serena will get her chance at happiness as it looked like Paul was going to propose but now Serena wasn’t as happy as she thought she’d be, as her mind was drifting towards Paul’s friend Giles.

A Match Made in Mistletoe is a novella by Anna Campbell. When I read novellas from Anna Campbell I usually almost always enjoy them and this one is no exception. I thought she did a good job on this novella and it was entertaining to read.

Now saying that I will say that I had a little problem with Serena. She was a little flighty with her feelings. I figure her feelings for Paul were because of a crush, a childhood crush. Paul was her fantasy and she was suck in that fantasy of him. She was not really seeing the man that he was. Then there was Giles who brought out lust with her. I wondered if she was really feeling things with Giles or it was just the lust. I believed that Giles did love Serena. I was cheering for him throughout the book especially as he had loved her from afar and was going to let her have her fairy tale with Paul. I thought Paul’s character was too perfect. He was the golden child and was loved by all. Though the moment things weren’t going his way he got all angry and was lashing out. He was still a good person but for me he was annoying.

Some Girls Don’t

Some Girls Don'tSelena Durrum was back in her hometown to give a speech. She was nervous, but not because of the speech. It was because she would see Jarrod who had been the love of her life. When she sees him for the first time in fifteen years she knew that there was the fire and love they shared but Selena did not want to be trapped.

Jarrod Weston was a firefighter and loved what he did. Though Jarrod was never complete since Selena had left him. With Selena back only for a couple of days Jarrod knew not to get reattached but it will be hard as he still loved her.

Some Girls Don’t is the second book to the series Outback Heat by Amy Andrews. I liked this novel. It was very fast paced and entertaining to read.

Selena’s character is a driven career woman, it was all she wanted. I liked that about Selena but that meant she had distance herself from others especially in the relationship department. I wanted her to realize that keeping a hold on Jarrod didn’t weaken her. She had lived her life and to be with him would truly make her happy, she could have it all if she gave it a chance. Jarrod’s character was also a driven man and I liked that he was stubborn which could be a problem. Although when he was around Selena he turned back into a seventeen year old who had been in love with her.

What made this very fast paced was the amount of sex that was in the book. It is explosive between Selena and Jarrod. They are full of fire that is great for chemistry but they tend to butt heads together and say things before thinking. Though even with all the bumps in the road I was definitely cheering for Selena and Jarrod being together.

I am reading the third book next.

The Bollywood Bride

The Bollywood BrideRia Parkar was known as the Ice Princess. Ria had made herself distant from everyone else but now she was coming home for her cousins wedding. She wanted to be there but that meant she would see Vikram, the boy whose heart she had broken.

Vikram Jathar had loved Ria but then she had betrayed him. When Vikram sees Ria he will be angry as all those feelings come back to the surface. He will try to keep his distance but it will be a losing battle.

The Bollywood Bride is the second book to the series Bollywood by Sonali Dev. Like the first, I loved this book. Sonali Dev really integrates the culture and traditions well throughout the book. I wanted to find out all that was hidden in the past and to find out the real reasons why the characters were a shell of themselves.

Ria’s character was a young woman who had gone through a big trauma at a young age. You don’t know everything until later one. At first I thought Ria truly was an ice princess from how she handled things ten years ago, but I had a feeling she was not that cruel. Ria’s true self is discovered and your heart breaks for her as she is just a shell of herself. Vikram’s character was intentionally cruel to Ria and its because he felt betrayed. There is logic to that but I wanted him to at least move on and make a fresh start. I get my wish but the future is complicated for these two characters that is until everything gets out onto the table and they take a chance.

I really wanted something to be done about Vikram’s mother but I guess that would have put too much strain on the characters. I liked that he was standing up to her and taking a chance with Ria once again.

So Sonali Dev third book has come out in September and I will be reading that next but I am hesitant. It is with Nic and Jen who were in this book and are the ones that are getting married. It seems in the next book a tragedy will happen that break up the couple forever. Well I will find out more as I read the book next.

Dare to Rock

Dare to RockGrey Kingston had wanted fame and fortune and he got that but now he wanted more. He wanted the girl he had left behind. Grey knew that he had to prove to Avery that they could make it which was hard when his manager and a stalker were making trouble for them.

Avery Dare had loved Grey since high school but knew that she never wanted his lifestyle. With Grey back she has hope but she will be hesitant to trust him. Though Avery will have more to deal with especially when reporters are bringing up her father’s past.

Dare to Rock is the fifth book to Dare to Love series by Carly Phillips. I really loved this book.

Avery’s character was fantastic. She is a bubbly and confident woman when she does her job but on the inside she is still scared and a girl who has panic attacks. I thought how her attacks started was so sad and I hated that it was coming back because of the reporters. Though Avery is strong and she will get through the trouble. Grey’s character was not the cliche rocker which I liked. He cared about his work and wanted what was best for his band mates. I liked that Grey had to work hard to win back Avery.

The problem that occurs are the threats that Avery receives because of some crazy fan of Grey’s. The woman is psychotic and it shows in her behavior. I thought that James gives a good twist on how this woman was so successful with her threats.

Spoiler Alert: I have made mention that I really disliked the father and the way he doesn’t inquire about Avery especially when she is threatened really pissed me off. He tells her that he is annoyed that because of her antics his past is coming back out. Though Avery will finally get through to her father. She gives him a speech that I was hoping one of the kids would give, that let him know how hurtful he has been to them. From how the father was acting towards the end I think there is a chance he will be there for all of his kids.

I am taking a very quick break for the next book but will be back. I will also be reading about the New York Dare’s in the series NY Dare to Love.

Burned

BurnedRosie Miller had loved a man five years ago and felt her heart break when he had left. Now he is back and she is finding out that he wants her back.

Hunter Black never stopped wanting Rosie but their relationship needed space. After five years he will come back to find out if Rosie would take him back.

Burned is the second novella to this two book series Miller Sisters by Sarah Morgan. I really liked this book. It was sweet and steamy. I thought it was a good follow up to the first book which had first mentioned the man that Rosie had loved and who had broken her heart. As said this was a novella so it was pretty short but I felt that I got the important information, although at times it might have been a little rushed.

So Rosie was someone you wanted to hug, to tell her to let herself have that happy ending with Hunter. You wanted her to trust him again, to give him a second chance. I had a feeling that Hunter was not a bad guy for leaving. I knew that there had to be more to his side, and I was right. Hunter’s character was a man with an edge, a man who fought for what he wanted. You want to have someone like Hunter pursue you.

So I was getting annoyed, at least a little annoyed, with the book because I wanted to know more about Hunter. I wanted to know why he left Rosie five years ago. Well I get my answers, only it was pretty close to the end. The explanation let you get to know Hunter a lot better and you felt for him and his past.

I liked the ending of this book as what happened in the first book happened in the second book, only on a different holiday. The ending left me smiling.

Waiting on You

Waiting on youColleen O’Rourke had been in love only once in her life and he was back in town to say goodbye to his uncle who was dying. She did not want to see him knowing that she would fall back in love but that wasn’t a choice as he was keeping close to her.

Lucas Campbell was here to help his Uncle Joe and to say goodbye. He knew that seeing Colleen would stir up old feelings but he didn’t want to start anything. Staying away from her seemed impossible though in the small town and Lucas knew that with enough time by her side he would want her all over again.

Waiting On You is the third book to Blue Heron series by Kristan Higgins. Once again I really liked this book. Kristan Higgins is a writer that I want to come back for more.

So Colleen was a woman who was unlucky in love. She was a flirt and a very confident woman or so it appeared on the outside. She was fragile and in need of love. I liked that for Colleen does get a second chance at love even though it was a very bumpy ride. Lucas was a man of few words but was a good man who just wanted to have something of his own. Now I think that Lucas was a little on the weak side when he was in his twenties and didn’t fight for Colleen. He makes up for it but he is still hardheaded about how to show Colleen what he wants.

I thought the backgrounds of Colleen and Lucas were written well and placed thoughtfully in the book. They were heartwarming and heartbreaking as you got to know these characters.

Now I really did like these characters as they were dynamic and felt real with real problems, my problem was I was torn. I wanted the happy ending as the romance reader in me and I was thrilled with the ending, then the other side of me was kind of annoyed. I felt that Colleen gave in way too easily. Sure it was her personality but I was disappointed that she didn’t resist more as this was a man who didn’t say that he loved her for all four years of dating. But as I said the romantic in me was thrilled with the outcome because I wanted them to be happy.

I would really like more on this series as there are still characters out there that haven’t had their story told. The fourth book is out this month which I can’t wait to read. Though to keep myself occupied I will have to try one of Higgins many novels as getting the fourth book could take some time with people checking it out.
