Hard Justice

Justice Wallington was a hired bodyguard and was not looking forward to protecting a spoiled rich brat. Though when Justice meets Fallon he will discover that she is anything but spoiled or a brat. He will do whatever he can to let Fallon spread her wings but keep a very close eye on her especially when someone was after her.

Fallon Wade had been sheltered after a tragedy but she was ready to stretch her wings. She would get that chance with Justice at her side but quickly there will be a threat that would put her in danger.

Hard Justice is the second book to the series Body Armor by Lori Foster. I really liked this book. I thought it was very entertaining and I felt the connection I had been missing from the first book. It might have been fast paced but I was drawn in right away. I finished it easily in a few hours.

Justice’s character was intimidating to those around him but he was a softy especially when it came to Fallon. He was kind and sweet to her but if anyone looked at her wrongly (namely a guy) he would give them a glare that would send the men running. Justice was sort of adorable in the book. Every woman should have a Justice in their lives. Fallon’s character was quiet but she wanted a chance to live her life. She wanted to experience everything she had been hidden away from. I liked Fallon. At first she almost seemed childlike but that was not the case. She was mischievous and wanted to do more with her life.

The conflict was intriguing. First off something had happened to Fallon to make her family very protective. So right away I was trying to guess but my guesses was not correct. Then there were incidents that were happening around Justice and Fallon. Someone was out to get them which was the main mystery to this novel. The mystery was different but it definitely kept me invested in the story.

Close Contact is the third novel which is coming out in December 2017.

Some Guys Need a Lot of Lovin’

Some Guys Need a Lot of Lovin'Marcus Weston was a paramedic and beloved coach of the football team for young kids. He was happy with his life then a brush fire will change everything for Marcus when one of his players will die in the fire.

Juanita Slattery was moving to a small town for a couple months to work. She never expected to find her one night stand in the town or that he was a man who needed therapy. Juanita will know to stay away but with Marcus she will not be able to help herself.

Some Guys Need a Lot of Lovin’ is the third book to the series Outback Heat by Amy Andrews. I liked this book. This felt different than the others, it had a more emotional pull with how Marcus was feeling.

Juanita’s character was a strong driven woman who was very independent. I liked that she was like that but also that she was a woman to make her own decisions. She didn’t let the man dictate what she needed to do. Though I did like Marcus’s take charge attitude when he was with Juanita, although Juanita had that same take charge attitude. Marcus’s character was a happy go lucky guy and someone who was a bit of a player. Though it was interesting to read how it all changed with him. I thought Amy Andrews did a really good job writing about Marcus’s PTSD. I could believe that his character had it. The ending was heartbreaking but it was what was needed for Marcus.

I am reading the fourth book next. I am looking forward to Ethan’s and JJ’s story.

A Winter Wedding

A Winter WeddingKyle Houseman was constantly on guard from his ex wife who would not leave him alone. His solution was to just give her money to make her stop harassing him. That will soon stop when he meets a woman who shows him that it was possible to move on from the only woman he had loved.

Lourdes Bennett had come to Whiskey Creek for one reason which was to write her songs for her next album. The problem was that Lourdes was heartbroken and writing was not coming easy for her, then she meets Kyle and things will change.

A Winter Wedding is the ninth book in the series Whiskey Creek by Brenda Novak. I really liked this book. I liked that it was about two characters who had their heart broken and both needed to be mended. This was not a book where the characters jumped right into bed which I appreciated because you got to know them first, and the fact that they had become friends was very sweet. They helped balance things out in each others lives.

Lourdes character was one that I easily liked. She was a small town girl trying to make a career for herself and she was not a diva. She was a down to earth character and at this point she was pretty vulnerable but she had a strength inside. That strength was helped by Kyle. So Kyle’s character was I thought of a push over. Now don’t get me wrong he was a strong guy but when it came to his ex he just gave in. Before I read this book I had read When We Touch which was when Kyle cheated on Olivia with her sister, who had become his wife. Kyle was always doing the right thing. I liked that finally in this book he was getting more of a backbone when it came to his ex wife. He was living again especially with Lourdes in the picture. There was one part in the book that had me cheering because Kyle finally gets some justice with all that had happened to him because of his ex wife.

Noelle, Kyle’s ex wife, was a piece of work. Basically from the entire series she had been nothing but trouble. In this book it was like she went crazy. She will do a lot of harm to those around her and personally I was happy with her ending. There was one thing that bugged me with how Olivia forgave Noelle especially since she had stolen Kyle, but I guess that was how Olivia operated and it had been five years.

I have one more book left to read in my pile for Brenda Novak which will be the tenth book, Discovering You, and I am reading that one next.

Back to Buckhorn

Back to BuckhornZoey Hodge was back in her hometown to help her mother. Back when she was a teen Zoey’s ex boyfriend got into an accident and was killed, Zoey was blamed for the golden boy dying. When she comes back there will be those who still blame her but she could always count on the Hudson family to have her back, especially Garrett.

Garrett Hudson had a crush on Zoey when they were younger and he will find that his crush was not over. With Zoey back home he finds himself thinking of the possibility of spending more time with her. Garrett will find plenty of excuses to stay around especially when it looked like Zoey could be in danger.

Back to Buckhorn is the seventh book to the Buckhorn Brothers series by Lori Foster. I really liked this novella. Another great story from Lori Foster.

I really liked how Foster wrote Zoey’s character. Zoey was a free spirit and did not let things get to her. She accepted things and moved on. Well her attraction to Garrett was one thing she would never let go. I felt for Zoey when she came back to town and how there were some that still thought she was to blame for her ex’s death which it clearly wasn’t. The boy made the mistake and he faced the consequences which was sad for his family.

Amber is playing matchmaker throughout these books which is humorous. She is a force to be reckon with. I hope that Lori Foster will write a story with Amber and then another story but with Adam.

The last book that I am reading from the Buckhorn Brothers series is A Buckhorn Summer, which I will be reading next.

The Mediator-Twilight

The Mediator-TwilightSusannah knows that something is going on with Paul as he keeps dropping hints that he is going to do something to Jesse. She will find out he is going back in time to save him so Jesse didn’t die and become a ghost. Susannah didn’t want to live a life without Jesse and will find a way to stop Paul by going back.

Haunted is the sixth and final book from the series Mediator by Meg Cabot. I was so happy to start reading the book because I knew how it would end which would be the perfect happy ending to this series. Rereading it again I felt still the same way. It is something with these young adult books that make you feel like a teenager again and want to feel that love or that need for it as only teenagers do.

Of course love is not the only thing about this book even though it was a big part because for Susannah and Jesse love was forever, there was also some action and more on mediators. The action happens much later in the book when Cabot will take the characters back and one wants to right a wrong but not for purely unselfish reasons. This character is obviously Paul who I still can’t stand.

Then the mediator business gets a little dicey with time traveling. When rereading I remembered this part but it was interesting revisiting how Cabot was able to make them travel through time and all it needed was an object from that past and for you to image yourself at the location. I thought that was kind of cool feature in the book.

So with the final chapter of the Mediator series I am wanting more with Meg Cabot. I am now making it my mission to find the other series that I read as a teenager which was the 1-800-Where-R-You.

Texas Bride

Texas BrideMiranda Wentworth never thought she would be a mail ordered bride but it was needed to get out of the orphanage. She would make a better life for herself, her brothers and eventually her sisters. Miranda will learn that life is difficult in Texas and especially with a man like Jake Creed who was not the warmest man but things are not always what they seem.

Jake Creed needed a wife to take care of his child and his home. He was lucky with finding Miranda but she brought more than she advertised and he will find that his new wife was hiding more than she was letting on. Jake will find a way with her no matter what as they will have only each other to lean on.

Texas Bride is the first book to the series Mail-Order Brides from Joan Johnston. I have already read the second and third book to the series and liked them without a doubt.

Miranda was a strong willed girl and determined to rescue her family. It was sad that she could only save her brothers but as I have read about Hannah and Hetty, I know that they do have a happy ending even though it was a little hard to get to. She will make the best of the situation when going to Texas and settling in her life. Jake was a hard man who lost the woman he loved and will be conflicted as his new wife was making him fall in love with her. He does push away especially when he finds that things are not all that they seem to be with Miranda but they do get through their difficulties and some are a little more difficult than others.

I liked that the uncle was introduced to us in the book. He was towards the end of the story and he didn’t stay long thanks in big part because of Miranda. She understood all that her uncle wanted and she was not going to be manipulated into signing away her fortune.

I liked finding out more on the history of this feud between the family. Of course when you find out what Blackthorne does it does make sense that Jake is not Blackthorne’s favorite person. I wonder if Cricket, Jake’s mom, will ever find out the truth about her first husband. Since it did not happen in the second or third book I guess it should happen in the fourth book which should be the last book to the series. Or it might not happy at all. I don’t know when that one is coming out but I assume it will be in 2015 since each book of the series has a gap of a year in between them. I can’t wait to read Josie’s story but in the mean time I think I will be checking out more from Joan Johnston.

River Road

River RoadLucy Sheridan was dragged out of a party by the guy she had a crush on and was humiliated in front of all kids there. Now thirteen years later Lucy will find herself once again being rescued without being asked. She will learn the truth of that night and find that there is more to the story.

Mason Fletcher played knight in shinning armor for Lucy thirteen year ago because of what he heard was going to happen to her. Mason stopped the attack and saved Lucy that night. He will save her again thirteen years later only to find that they will be pulled into bigger danger.

River Road is a standalone novel from Jayne Ann Krentz. I really enjoyed the novel as it was a well written thriller. There were lots of twist and turns throughout the novel that kept you on your toes. I was with it the whole way wanting to find out what would have happened to Lucy if Mason didn’t step in and who was the other person helping Tristan at the time. It was hard to guess throughout the book as Krentz does a good job at making many look to be the bad guy but in reality all those people were afraid of that person or being blackmailed. The villain behind the scenes surprised me, well at least one of them.

I have to say that I really liked the characters of Lucy and Mason. They are at odds with each other but there is a passion that surrounds them especially in time of danger. Now I have to say that when the secret of what was in store for Lucy was revealed around the middle of the book it was pretty shocking. The villain was truly evil but he gets what was coming to him by an unsuspecting person.

Now this wasn’t my normal romance that I have been reading but there was certainly a lot of passion between the two characters that would keep you warm at night. Jayne Ann Krentz will always keep me reading.
