Rita Lucero was preparing for Halloween when she will get an offer to make the cakes for one of the biggest events that they would get. Rita will be determined to make things work but when she helps Bernice with a supposed ghost problem things will quickly get out of hand. Rita will also discover some secrets were better left unheard.
Rebel Without a Cake is the fifth book to the series A Piece of Cake Mystery by Jacklyn Brady. I liked the book but out of the series for me this just didn’t draw me in like the others.
Rita’s character is handling a lot and it seems she is crankier than ever in this book. At this point I hope that she gets a vacation so she can just relax. I also hope that she had an actual conversation with Miss Frankie about not just signing her up for task without asking. It was done in the book but not in the right way. I don’t dislike Miss Frankie but she can be a bulldozer in the conversation. I want them to have a true partnership in the business and a relationship where one is not dominating the other.
Within this series there has been Edie who was full of annoyance with Rita but they have gotten close and I now really love Edie. She is a pain in the butt but you now know that is just Edie. Though she does have a sweet side and concerns about the others in the shop. I hope that Jacklyn Brady continues with Edie keeping hold of River. She needs someone at her side to care about her as well.
I am reading the sixth book next which looks to be the last of the series.
Annabelle Tucker never wanted to go back to Endurance Island as they made her look like a bimbo who slept with a contestant. She had flirted and thought herself in love but she had found out it was all a game. Annabelle gets a chance to then change her image and get revenge on the contestant who ruined her reputation.
Jendan Abercrombie had been on House Guest and now was on Endurance Island. He was the nice guy on the show and he will do his best to help Annabelle who he was quickly falling for, even though she just wanted them to be friends.
Body Games is the fifth book to the series Games by Jessica Clare. I really liked this book. Jessica Clare takes us back to Endurance Island aka Survivor.
Annabelle’s character was a woman out for revenge and that revenge was to get out her old/present partner so he didn’t win the money. I was cheering for Annabelle even with every dirty move she made. Some made me laugh and cringe but she was playing the game. I liked that she stayed true to no romances on the show even though it had been difficult with Jendan on the show. Jendan’s character was from the fourth book and I had liked him. I was routing for him to find that romance in real life and Annabelle seemed like a good match for him.
Sir Charles had been courting Lady Norwood but she was oblivious to his attempts. Charles knew that he had to step up his attempts and he will get the chance with the help of Sally’s niece.
Lady Norwood, Sally, was escorting her niece Meg. Sally was happy with the season especially as Meg had a suitor, Sir Charles. Sally thought they would be a good match but she was conflicted as she wanted him, though she knew she could never have him.
Charming Sir Charles is the fifth novella to the series Dashing Widows by Anna Campbell. I was a little disappointed with this novella. It really didn’t have anything to do with the plot as I liked the idea of the plot. A younger man (only by four years) was wanting a mature woman instead of a school lady who would be eighteen. This plot had promise but for me it was slow going and not as fun as the other. The reason for me was Sally’s character. I thought Sally was a good woman and was trying to do what was right but she was so unsure. She drove me a little crazy with the switch of wanting Charles and then not wanting him. I just wanted her to make the decision. I also just wasn’t connecting with her character.
After reading this one from Anna Campbell I am hoping that the sixth novella from the Dashing Widows will be better. When the sixth story comes out I will give it a try and hope for the best.
Charlotte Highwood had no desire to marry at least not until she went on her trip with her best friend. Though Charlotte’s plan will quickly be in trouble when she will be found alone with Lord Granville. Charlotte’s only option is to find the couple who had really been having the tryst.
Piers Brandon, Lord Granville, was on a mission but he will be interrupted when Charlotte burst into the room. Things will quickly spiral out of control but instead of being angry Piers feels himself falling for Charlotte.
Do You Want to Start a Scandal is the fifth book to the series Spindle Cove by Tessa Dare. I really liked this book. I had been waiting for Charlotte’s story since I started reading Spindle Cove series.
Charlotte’s character I found silly but I was okay with that since that was how she was throughout the series. She had been young when this series started now she is a woman and she is trying to avoid marriage for a year. She doesn’t always go about it the correct way but it ends up funny. I really liked Piers. To society to he was a quiet and boring peer. Of course that is the opposite of Piers. I liked that Charlotte brought out a playful side of Piers that he had hidden away.
The mystery behind the real couple that was having the tryst was funny especially when you found out who it had been.
I don’t know if Tessa Dare will have any more from Spindle Cove but if she does I will definitely read it.
Grey Kingston had wanted fame and fortune and he got that but now he wanted more. He wanted the girl he had left behind. Grey knew that he had to prove to Avery that they could make it which was hard when his manager and a stalker were making trouble for them.
Avery Dare had loved Grey since high school but knew that she never wanted his lifestyle. With Grey back she has hope but she will be hesitant to trust him. Though Avery will have more to deal with especially when reporters are bringing up her father’s past.
Dare to Rock is the fifth book to Dare to Love series by Carly Phillips. I really loved this book.
Avery’s character was fantastic. She is a bubbly and confident woman when she does her job but on the inside she is still scared and a girl who has panic attacks. I thought how her attacks started was so sad and I hated that it was coming back because of the reporters. Though Avery is strong and she will get through the trouble. Grey’s character was not the cliche rocker which I liked. He cared about his work and wanted what was best for his band mates. I liked that Grey had to work hard to win back Avery.
The problem that occurs are the threats that Avery receives because of some crazy fan of Grey’s. The woman is psychotic and it shows in her behavior. I thought that James gives a good twist on how this woman was so successful with her threats.
Spoiler Alert: I have made mention that I really disliked the father and the way he doesn’t inquire about Avery especially when she is threatened really pissed me off. He tells her that he is annoyed that because of her antics his past is coming back out. Though Avery will finally get through to her father. She gives him a speech that I was hoping one of the kids would give, that let him know how hurtful he has been to them. From how the father was acting towards the end I think there is a chance he will be there for all of his kids.
I am taking a very quick break for the next book but will be back. I will also be reading about the New York Dare’s in the series NY Dare to Love.
Rafe was born poor and he raised himself up from the gutter. He had become a mercenary and with his latest job he was looking for something that a woman had clutched in her purse. Rafe will be torn. He will want what Ava is carrying but he will want her and want to save her.
Ava’s best friend is being held hostage and to make sure she survives Ava has to play the part of mule to these criminals. She will be in way over her head but she had no choice. But things just might get easier when she meets Rafe who will offer help.
Last Hope is the fifth book to the series Hitman by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick. I liked this book but at times I have it say it was a little over the top with one or two scenarios. Although that didn’t stop me from finishing the book.
So the character of Ava was someone who would do anything for a friend, which I liked. Though because of that loyalty it gets Ava into trouble. When Ava was first introduced she was timid and scared but you could tell she was tough. She shows ability to adapt when she teams up with Rafe. Now the character of Rafe. I liked Rafe’s character. He was a good man and a tough man. He was someone you wanted on your side. I liked that Rafe didn’t just drop everything for Ava. He had to keep going with his mission but he adjust what needed to be done.
Throughout the book you knew that there had to be a budding romance, and there certainly was one between Rafe and Ava. I don’t mind these scenes but sometimes you want a little more plot so you really get to know the characters. Though that is the theme with this series and Clare does a good job.
Jonathan Lyons loved the adventure of finding a new site and discovering new items that had been lost but his life was never fully satisfying without the woman he loved. Jonathan lost the woman he loved ten years ago but now that she was back in his life he would not let go.
Violet DeWitt was closed off and comfortable in her job as a school teacher. She had wanted nothing to do with Jonathan or the wild goose chase her father would be sending them on, but as she was forced to go Violet went. She was fearful that she would fall right back into love with Jonathan, and with everyday they spent together she was in danger of loving him all over again.
Romancing the Billionaire is the fifth book to the series Billionaire Boys Club by Jessica Clare. I thought this was a great book and a good addiction to the series.
The character of Violet was hardened and closed off because of her past relationship. I wanted to shake Violet to let go a little and trust but the problem when she did that she was always hurt in the end. It takes an effort on Jonathan’s side to show her that she could trust again. Though I will say that it takes Jonathan some time to figure out what he truly needed to do in order to win back Violet. So Jonathan’s character was no villain and was a good man but he liked adventure. Though that life for Jonathan was lonely. I had wondered why Jonathan never even looked up Violet even under the circumstances he was told. I liked that the characters will be back together after ten years as it gave them time to grow up but those ten years left them lonely and disappointed in relationships.
Alright so the ending was yes very predictable because, hey, this is a romance novel, and I know with these types of books I will get that happy ending. But what I loved about the ending was that it was very sweet with the last clue. It gave closure, which I knew it would, and it explained everything. It was what Violet needed at the end.
Well I am moving on to the last book of the series with Cade as the last man. I am interested how Daphne will be. Will she be changed for the better or still self destructive? Once Night with a Billionaire is next.
