Only With a Highlander

Only with a HighlanderWinter MacKeage was special according to the priest and had a destiny that would save everyone. Winter was unaware of this destiny and will be shocked to find out that the enemy that was after them was closer than she thought.

Only With a Highlander is the fifth book to the series Pine Creek Highlander by Janet Chapman. I have liked this series since the start but I really liked this book, more than Robbie’s story. I guess its because Winter was talked about since the first book and I was curious to read how her character would be.

I liked Winter. She had a peaceful way of her but very connected with nature. That kind of way about her is in reflection to her destiny and what she really is. I liked that Winter was special but I liked it more that there were choices. That came about towards the end by a loved one which gave Winter that chance and happy ending. Matt is the other main character in the book and he was more than he appeared to be. There is a struggle between villain and hero and he will choose one side.

The magic keeps growing more and more within the series. It takes a bigger part to this book since it is Winter who will be coming into her powers which had been proclaimed since the beginning of the series. I liked the increase of powers and the strange things that followed.

Well there are several surprises with how certain things turned out. Some of them I liked, some I didn’t at least right away. The one I liked the most was one character who was also not from this present day. They are a surprise at the end which shows that Matt and Winter can have what they want.

When I had read the sixth book of the series I had thought it was over. Well there are two more to the series which look to be finishing up the series. I will be first reread the sixth book and move on to the last two books of the series.

Charming the Highlander

Charming the highlanderGrace Sutter was coming home to spread her sisters ashes and to give her sisters baby to the baby’s father. She will come into trouble when the plane she rides in crashes. She will be saved by a stranger who was another passenger, Greylan.

Greylen MacKeage was adjusting to his new life for the last four years all the while searching for the woman that would be his destiny. He will find that woman in Grace Stutter. He will want her the moment they meet and he will have to fight hard to win her hand.

Charming the Highlander is the first book to Pine Creek Highlander series by Janet Chapman. I thought this was a good book. The plot to me felt light and when reading the book I flew through the pages. This series has eight book which I have checked out from my library. I have decided to try out this series which was a long time coming. I have already read one book from this series but it’s been a while. I don’t exactly remember the plot but do remember that it was a series I wanted to read from the beginning.

Grace was a brilliant scientist but will have a tragedy hit her and throw her on a new path. I liked that Grace did not stop, she fought to do what was right. When she meets Greylan there is an immediate response that she has towards him and it only grows and gets pretty lustful. Greylan is a highlander from another time. He is old fashioned as that was the time he had grown up in, which can get a little overbearing when he wants something.

The magic aspect was interesting as it took these great warriors from their land to a modern day world. The magic really didn’t surround the book as I thought it would which was not a problem. I liked that these warriors were in present day and learning how to deal with the twenty first century.

I will be reading Loving the Highlander next.

Destiny

DestinyNash Barron liked his life in his hometown but with his estranged brother back he had not been one to want his big brother back. Now that some time has passed Nash is learning to forgive after all these years with the help of Kelly. As this all happens Nash will find new facts about his life.

Kelly Moss settled into the town Serendipity to be close to her half sister. She will be finding herself getting closer to Nash and sparks will fly between them but she doesn’t want to lose her heart to him.

Destiny is the second book to the series Serendipity from Carly Phillips. From start to finish I liked the book. There were little surprises that revealed secrets of the characters, Nash and Kelly. I was intrigued by the book and found myself flying through the pages.

Nash was a hard man with a grudge but he does lighten up throughout the book. Kelly was hiding her own secrets that embarrassed her for her poor judgment, but in reality she did everything she could. She grew from that experience which hardened her a little, much like Nash. But both did find a way to be together, it helped with the steamy connection that happened between them. I had wondered for a little if his ex wife was going to be a problem but she wasn’t. In fact she had her own love story in the book with the bartender Joe. They were pretty quick to have their own happy ending. Kelly and Nash had a harder time finding that peace that would bring their own happiness.

I went and looked for more books from the author and saw some other books that are part of the series Serendipity with characters Kate and Lissa getting their own novellas. It also looks like there is a series called Serendipity’s Finest which I wouldn’t mind reading. Since she does have a lot of books out from other series I will have plenty of choices to pick from.

Dance Upon The Air by Nora Roberts

Dance Upon The Air will break your heart and have you cheering for Nell as she has to go through the struggles of finding her destiny on the Three Sister Island. Roberts starts off the story with the first woman Nell in the three book series.

Nell came to the island to runaway to change her fate. By escaping she was doing just that. With little time and friendly people Nell was able to do that. Ripley and Mia will be there to help along with the handsome Sheriff Zach when the trouble starts to come back to Nell.

I liked the subtle idea of witchcraft within this series by Nora Roberts. It was all about fate and destiny that is bringing these three women together. It was a clever plot to make these women the descendants of these powerful witches that were around in the 1600’s.

The very beginning of the story grabbed your attention immediately as a young woman is running away from her life to start again. I love how Roberts creates Nell’s persona and has Helen drift away.

This book was also all about witchcraft and I liked that there were no powers that were overwhelming. This story would seem out of place with a burst of magic. It is about Nell’s challenge of finding herself and Roberts does that well. But of course magic was not lost in the book. There were parts that is was used to make the story move along and come alive.

Dance Upon The Air is a great first book of the series Three Sister Island. Romance readers who love fire and magic in their characters will devour the pages.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

I finished the movie and was in shock.  The movie was really great.  For a while there have not been too many great movies out there that interested me.  This movie did but I wasn’t sure, but after hearing a good review from those who saw the movie I went.

The movie was much better than I thought, which lead me to think what would the book be like.  I was finally able to get my hands on the book and as the last page was turned I was in awe.  The book was interesting, funny, clever, and entertaining to read.

“Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school…again.  And that’s the least of his troubles.  Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life.  And worse, he’s angered a few of them.  Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.  But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him: solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.”

“Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan is categorized as a fantasy genre and it was truly amazing to read.  The characters, plot and dialogue were well thought out and had drawn me in to find out more about the series.  So I searched my favorite site, Fantastic Fiction and looked up Rick Riordan.  I saw that there are a total of five books for Percy Jackson and will be only five in the series, which have all been written.

While I was reading I thought about the movie compared to the book but I stopped.  You can never compare the movie to the book because things are always cut out and should be thought as their own entity.  Reading the book reminded me of Harry Potter which is also the genre of Fantasy.  I guess it is because of how in each book the main character really doesn’t know where they belong in the world.  Each are different from other people.

As I read the book I loved the detail that was intertwined with the book.  The detail of the characters life; the gods, the heroes, Percy and Percy’s mom.

Some things I thought that were interesting was that Percy is only 12 years old and in the movie the kid looked 15 so I was thrown a little.  I didn’t remember the age that Percy was supposed to be in the movie.  Another interesting thing was the people from the camp didn’t exactly know who Percy’s father was.  I thought that was strange since all around him there were clues about what Percy could do with water.  Another interesting part of the book was the involvement with all the different types of mythical creators.  I liked the oracles and their mysterious messages.

This book was something very easy, fast pace thriller that is fantastic to read.  It is something different from the normal vampires and werewolves.  It was refreshing to read and I can’t wait to get the other four books.
