Do you remember those amazing choose your own adventure books? I know I do and they were books which I loved when I was a kid. Well imagine my surprise years later I would read another choose your own adventure, yet this time its with a romance. My Lady’s Choosing by Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris which is an interactive romance story.
Alright, now its been a while since I posted because I have just not been inspired to write. I have read some great books but I just didn’t want to write. Personally I think I was just tired about writing about books and needed a break. But when I found out about this book, My Lady’s Choosing, by a librarian friend and the moment I heard about it I had to check it out and write about it. I was so excited about reading this book I made sure to follow each adventure the book presented.
So the concept of the book is that the reader is the heroine and you will get to choose you own adventure. You might travel to Egypt and find love and adventure. You could stay as a companion and solve a mystery that surrounded the man you loved. Perhaps you might find love in the arms of a Scotsman. Or love from a broken man. With each situation there are several opportunities to go a different route.
I will say these stories are not the most amazing things I have read as they are cliche but they are fun and I love the nostalgic feeling of this book. My Lady’s Choosing was very engaging and I really hope that there will be another written by these authors as I think they did a great job with this interactive story. If no others are written I might just have to find some choose your own adventures from my childhood.
For those who want to read a fun romance story try out My Lady’s Choosing.
John Mason did not like to be cheated and he swore he would find out where the money went, even if he was to go after his ex-betrothed. Though when John finds Mary he will see that she is not living like a woman who had gotten away with a large theft of money.
Miss Mary Chartley’s world fell apart when she found out what her father had done. Mary had to act fast to help her father one last time and to find a way out of trouble, which will only cause more hurt to those around her.
What Happened at Midnight is a novella by Courtney Milan. I liked this one a lot more than the previous novella, only because it was longer and I felt that I got to know the characters.
I liked John’s character. He was a man of conviction and wanted to do right by his sister and nephew. He believed the worst of Mary but I liked that he owned to his mistake and that he was able to move on. Mary’s character I liked but she was at times hard to like. Her character was almost too aloof at times. Though I suppose that was her upbringing. I did like that she loosened up and found who she really was.
Within the story there were plenty of problems that the characters face but Milan will give a good twist to make sure justice is served. This will help make sure Mary and John get their happy ending.
Nell Trim was on a mission to stop the vile seducer that had left her half sister pregnant, which ended her life. Her goal was to get close to him to find the diary which had all the women the Marquess had ruined. Though when she meets Leath she can’t help but wonder if her sister had been wrong about her seducer.
Marquess of Leath, James Fairbrother, was on the road to become prime minister. He was very wary of scandal as he knew that would ruin his political career. Though when he meets Nell he will instantly want her, but he will not trust her as he knew she was up to something.
A Scoundrel by Moonlight is the fourth book to the series Sons of Sin by Anna Campbell. I really liked this book. It was filled with lust, love, a little mystery and of course betrayal.
In the previous book the Marquess seemed like a hard man and he is but he was only doing what he needed to protect his family. I liked that he lightened up especially when Nell came into his life. He became more carefree. Although reputation was still a big factor in his life. Nell’s character was a woman scorned. She wanted revenge. You can’t blame Nell for wanting revenge for her sister. You will find out quickly that all is not what it seems to be and Nell’s need for revenge is misguided.
The love/lust that is between Nell and James was done really well. There is an instant attraction between them but they don’t trust each other. That will change and with that change turns to love which was sweet. Although the scenes between them will get rather steamy.
So, I was wondering if there would be something happening with Marianne and Elisa who were at the end of this book. Well Anna Campbell has one more story to this series which is a novella that I will be reading next.
Travis Jesson’s grandmother just passed away. It was his job to take care of the house and her pet. Travis will be startled that the pet is a pig named Gregory. This was too much to handle as Travis’s life was too chaotic. He will find help from Risa Moore who was his grandmothers companion. He will feel immediately lust for Risa and know that he wants more, though he will have to find the time in his life.
The Billionaire of Bluebonnet is a novella from the series Bluebonnet by Jessica Clare. This novella is 1.5 in the series. I liked this novella and it was a very fast read. There might not be a lot to the novella but I felt that it got the point across. I will admit it was a little cheesy with how they were acting and if it was a novel the romance could have been a slower build up, but overall I liked the story.
I liked Travis’s character. He was a good man whose life was all about work. He was very driven when it came to his job but there was a softer side to him, it was just buried deep within him. Risa’s character will pull that other side out of him. She was unsure about herself but she was confident at the same time. So when the two of them get together it will certainly get steamy. Now the book isn’t all about the sex between them as there is a humorous side with Gregory the pig. I thought it was a cute addition that helped Travis open up.
I have read some of the series already (book 1, 2, and 3) so all I have to read is 2.5, 4, and 4.5. I will be reading the 2.5 novella next.
Mrs. Vanessa Wynters was a companion to an elderly woman who had a love of photography and travel which was shared with Vanessa. She will be devastated when this woman dies. Vanessa knows that she will have to leave once the funeral is over but she will find herself with a new opportunity. Though danger will not be far from Vanessa and the family she was staying with.
Viscount Adrian Marrable had lost two wives and swore that he would never fall in love again. Adrian will find love with Vanessa but before he could he had to find out if his wife was truly dead and where were the rest of the family’s jewels which disappeared that night.
Shades of the Past is a novel by Kathleen Kirkwood. Really loved reading this book, it was one that I could not put down. After reading my first and only book from Kathleen Kirkwood I figured I would try another of her books but she really hasn’t written too many. I had found this book as a free book at amazon awhile ago and I quickly snatched it up. Now although it was initially the author that pulled me to get the book it was the title that intrigued me. I liked the sound of the title and it worked well with the book especially as it dealt with some paranormal aspects, mainly ghost within the story.
So with this book there are plenty of things that will happen and mostly there are twists, and there are several big ones that change everything you thought about some of the characters. I wouldn’t go into detail because I don’t want to ruin the surprise. Though I will say that Kirkwood really weaved a well balance story and incorporated the twists really well into the plot.
After saying that I thought about what else to write because I really don’t want to spoil any surprise. So instead of saying anything about the characters I will say that Kirkwoods description was really well done. She wrote about Vanessa’s work with the photography which I actually found interesting and informative. It might have seemed that Kirkwood didn’t need to put all that time in description of photography but it is a big part of the story.
Rafe Bowman was summoned to England to marry the woman that his father had chosen for him. Rafe will do his duty but then he will meet the companion of the woman he is supposed to marry. He will want Hannah as she was different from every other woman he had met.
Hannah’s sole job was to be her cousin’s companion. She will meet Rafe Bowman and know that he was not for her cousin because of he was a rake. She will be unnerved when she starts to feel things for Rafe and will want him.
A Wallflower Christmas is the last book to the series Wallflowers by Lisa Kleypas. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After finishing up Daisy’s story I wanted more books to the series and with luck on my side there was one more book to read which was all about Rafe Bowman. Now even though this was Rafe’s story the wallflowers are definitely around and will be helping out. You will also read a little about how their matches are fairing which I was happy to read since they was all still very much in love with their spouses.
Now back to the story with Rafe who was a character I really liked. He was a rake without a doubt but he wanted more and he only realized that when he was with Hannah. He wanted only to be like that with Hannah and as they grew closer it kept getting hotter between them. I liked Hannah who was smart and was one who wanted love, though she kept that to herself. I wanted her to go after what she wanted and not stay in the background. She does get the courage but heartbreak is close to her as she knows that Rafe could never be hers, though I knew that Kleypas would never let our hero and heroine be miserable. They would get their happy ending.
The character Natalie I didn’t really hate but didn’t really like. She was too spoiled at times which made her annoying. I didn’t want her to be with Rafe because they would be a disastrous together. I was happy with how Kleypas wrote the ending, so there were no complaints.
I have come to the end of the books which I have in my pile to read from Lisa Kleypas. There are only a few more that she had written which I haven’t read yet and I know that I will be back for more.
Pierce Waverly, the Earl of Devonmont, had been turned away from his own family when he was a little boy which left him estranged from his mother. He will receive a letter telling him that his mother was deathly ill and Pierce flees but will find out that was a lie by his mother’s companion. Pierce will be angry but will find himself staying to seduce the companion. By staying at his mothers home he will start to feel things again and will want his childhood he missed.
Mrs. Camilla Stuart was a widow with a young son and was companion to a countess. She will write a letter wanting the Earl home for the countess. Camilla had seen how sad the countess was and wanted to make her feel better. When Pierce does come home Camilla will find out that there is more to the story and neither mother or son were willing to discuss, at least not right away.
‘Twas the Night After Christmas is the sixth book to the series Hellions of Halstead Hall by Sabrina Jeffries. First off loved this book. I would say that my favorites of the series were with Oliver, Minerva and now Pierce who was an extension of the family. He was first introduced in the fourth book with Gabe. Pierce is the cousin of Virginia who made life a little difficult for Gabe in that book.
This last book is all about Pierce and his story which as I said above I loved it. This story is a heartbreaking tale of a son who loved his mother but was rejected by her and he was sent away to school and never to come back home for the holidays. You felt for Pierce, it was actually heartbreaking reading his thoughts about his mother. There was a strong sense of betrayal but in the back of my mind I thought that it did not make sense. The mother loved her son, so why did she turn her back on her son. Then you read what she said when he was twenty one and it further broke your heart for Pierce. Though once again it felt wrong with the mother. The mystery behind those years left me wondering and turning the pages.
Pierce was a cold man but that was thanks to his upbringing or lack there of. Though he had his good moments because he was a good man but it was under his exterior. He wanted to stay angry and to punish his mother. I like Jeffries writing for Pierce. With his thoughts you got to know the man much better. I liked Camilla who was the widow and companion of his mother. She was on the mothers side but she kept an open mind and soon becomes Pierce’s champion.
Love blooms between Pierce and Camilla though he doesn’t realize that because he doesn’t want to. Camilla wants him but knows he cannot love which means her future would be uncertain. I liked that Pierce did not stay the cold man as he was and doesn’t give up. There was also a surprise with Camilla that gave her something more.
The mystery of why Pierce’s mother turned her back will be solved at the end which was not as bad as I thought it would be. You felt for the mother as well but Jeffries will make sure that this mother and son have a chance for a do over and get that relationship that they were denied for years. So in the end we got our happy ending all around.
Miss Sarah Moorehouse is her sisters companion and has come with her to a house party. She is not looking for a man, only to be with her sister and friends, and in the quiet hours of the night her friends will discuss scandalous books. Sarah’s active imagination will lead her to wonder about their host Matthew Devenport and what he was doing late at night.
Matthew Devenport, Marquess Langston, had a limited time to do his fathers bidding and his time was almost up. If he couldn’t find what he needed he would have to marry a wealthy heiress whom he didn’t love. It becomes difficult when his thoughts will be only surrounding Sarah.
Sleepless at Midnight is the first book to the series Mayhem in Mayfair by Jacquie D’Alessandro. I absolutely loved reading this book. It was fun with with characters that you wanted to read about. I wanted to know about Matthew and Sarah as they were characters that captivated my attention.
Sarah was a spinster and knew it. She didn’t dream of finding a man wanting her but low and behold she will find a man who will want her. The problem is the man needs an heiress. The good thing is there is an attraction that is on both sides. Sarah is an artist and has an active imagination but she is right that Matthew is up to something. I liked that D’Alessandro gave us only little hints to what Matthew was up too. That kept your attention on the book. Matthew was a good man in a bad situation. I loved how he wanted Sarah but he fought it knowing he could never have her. Well that good intention will go out the window when Matthew kisses her.
The villain you knew would be a member of the house party. It was just a matter of figuring out which one was the person. I liked the conclusion D’Alessandro gave to the villain which results in a very happy ending for this unlikely couple. I was really happy with how D’Alessandro ended the book with Sarah and Matthew, it was the perfect happy ending that had me smiling as I closed the book.
Elizabeth Hotchkiss needed to marry but her options were limited. Soon she finds a book at her employers house that looks to be like a guide to find a husband. She will be finding a person willing to let her practice on, the new estate manager James Sidwell.
James Sidwell, the Marquis of Riverdale, is playing the role of estate manager to help his Aunt find the blackmailer. James will be side tracked with Elizabeth determining if she was the blackmailer but soon finds that she is temptation, not a threat.
How to Marry a Marquis is the second book to the series Agents for the Crown. This was a fun second and last book to this series from Julia Quinn. James was what I expected. He had humor and was a good man for coming to the aid of his Aunt. There is a little deception that happens but it is not done maliciously towards Elizabeth. Now Elizabeth is someone who is doing her best for her siblings with very little means. Quinn weaves into the book with humor that will make you smile as you read the book.
I did like that all was not what it seemed. There was a little surprise at the end which helps give a conclusion to the blackmailer problem, so all worked out for the best. How to Marry a Marquis was another good book from Julia Quinn.
Jane Williams has lived in the gutter all her life begin passed around from foster family to the next. Now at 16 she has a chance to better her life at a boarding school. Jane didn’t think it would be easy to fit in but everyone was accommodating with few exceptions. Jane will start to wonder if all is not how it appears to be.
After reading the series Vampire Academy I thought I was done with the theme of vampires but I was wrong. Well they are not exactly vampires. Dark Companion is a young adult book by Marta Acosta, an author I had never read before. The book screams teen drama mixed with paranormal and as I mostly stay away from teen book, with the exception of Vampire Academy series, I was truly captivated by the book. First of all I love the cover of this book. Its very haunting and follows the theme of the Dark Companion. The tale is gripping and leads you down the rabbit hole with little information dropping hints every once in a while. I never truly understood what was happening until the characters started to spill the guarded secret.
Most of the time I knew there was something sinister going on and I liked the character Lucky but knew he was part of this sinister plot. Well then it went to the point of annoyance as the kid was a tad too selfish for my liking. Now the character Jake I was never sure about. He seemed like a good guy but gave very strange vibes every time he was with Jane. Then there was Jane who was the tough kid who thought with logic and someone who never belonged. It was too perfect with her and Lucky, then you find that she is getting hurt over and over because it seemed he didn’t care enough. Personally I wanted Jane and Jake together at the end as I didn’t think her and Lucky were the right match, but mostly I just wanted to know what was going on.
There is then the villain of the story who was behind the problems. Marta also included a more spiritual part to the story connecting to the woods which was an interesting turn of events. With the ending everything will clear up and have a defined conclusion that was written well and wraps up the story.
