Bound to Submit is the first book to the series Blasphemy by Laura Kaye. I really enjoyed this book. I got my first look into this Blasphemy club with Hard to Serve which was a cross over story from Hard Ink series. I thought that Laura Kaye did a fantastic job on getting to that emotional drive in the characters. I am not always a fan of the dom/sub play but Laura Kaye really can write it well.
Throughout the story Kenna is battling with survivors guilt. I truly felt her struggles through the book and the triumph that happens towards the end. Kenna’s character was a strong woman who has lost who she was. She was brave enough to try and find that woman again. Her interaction with Griffin was intense and it helped break down a few barriers she was holding on to. Griffin’s character was a Master in the club and he knew that he had made a mistake five years ago. I liked that he owned up to that mistake and that he treated Kenna with the same care and love he had before. Of course his love was all about bondage but that was what Kenna wanted and needed.
Kyler Vance needed control in his life. He took that control and when he couldn’t he would visit the club he partially owned which would give him relief. Kyler liked his subs for one night and he moved on, but when he meets Mia he knows that one night is not going to be enough.
Mia Breslin wanted a dom to dominate her and she hoped this latest club would find her that someone. She will be thrilled when she meets Kyler but will quickly figure out that he will be wary of relationships. Mia knows she should walk away but can’t.
Hard to Serve is a novella in the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. When I heard the series was continuing with Kyler I was intrigued and definitely wanted to read the book. When I got it I didn’t even bother looking at the summary, I was just excited that Hard Ink series was continuing. So, basically when I started the book I was intrigued. This is in the realm of BSMD and as I am not really a fan of that I was thinking about putting it down but I am a fan of Laura Kaye. So, I decided to give the novella a chance and I am glad I did. I really liked the story. Yes it was a lot of sex and domination but it was an interesting look inside that world. Laura Kaye writes about the interactions between the dom and sub before they “play” together. It was interesting as you got to understand more of the rules that come with the territory. Not all stories that I have read do that so I thought that was interesting.
The character Kyler was a controlling man who did not do relationships but liked things in order. I liked Kyler from the first time he was introduced. Although getting to know him in this book he was a much darker character than I had thought. Though with his need of that lifestyle it would make sense. The character Mia knew what she wanted but it was hard to get for her. I liked that Mia tried and felt free to express what she needed, and that she was smart about it.
From how Laura Kaye wrote this novella it is clear that she is going to be writing more on this club especially with twelve “Masters” who bought the club. From how this novella was written I am definitely intrigued on the rest of the stories that Laura Kaye will be writing.
Decklan wanted no relationship which is what he found. Though he will be distracted by one woman that he wanted to have a night with. Decklan will force himself to stay away because he knew that he would want more, but he will go against his gut feeling and get Amanda.
Amanda had been looking for something at the club but she had little luck. Then she will see Decklan and know he would be the one to satisfy her. Amanda knew the moment she had him she would want more which made her wary. Though before Amanda knew it a relationship had started to form, but she knew it could not last.
Dare to Submit is the second book to the series NY Dare to Love by Carly Phillips. Well as I noted on the first book that the series would go towards dom and sub, and in this one it happened. I was happy to read that again it wasn’t to hurt each other. I guess its a lighter version of it and I was happy for that. I actually really did like the story. I thought the plot was more towards the characters which I liked. Phillips got into their past which I found interesting as the past shaped who they were. Well asides from the interesting characters there was a lot of sex, and I mean a lot. I was kind of wondering for a while if that was all there was going to be, but as I said Phillips creates an interesting plot with her characters.
So Decklan’s character is without a dom and he likes control. He doesn’t want a relationship which would leave to more. He doesn’t want to feel emotionally for any of the woman he has sex with. Though Decklan will take a chance when he goes after her. His past is tragic with his parents dying in a car accident which leaves him vulnerable as he is out of control. He takes control when he is a dom and it is intense. Amanda’s character is without doubt a sub. She is craving for someone to control her and she finds that with Decklan though her life is complicated. First of all she is a mess with insecurities that will make you very angry at her mother’s treatment of Amanda. That treatment really did a number on Amanda. For Amanda, she doesn’t want a relationship. Decklan and Amanda would be perfect for each other as neither want a relationship but as they are very compatible, they want more from each other. The reason for Amanda not being able to have a relationship made sense but it was an unfair situation.
For the couple to find happiness with each other there is a lot they have to work through, and it will happen. Of course there will be a big unexpected problem that happens that threw me at the end. Phillips throws in a little action and danger towards the end.
I am reading the third and I think final book from the New York Dare’s.
