Collin “Cole” Talmage, Duke of Trewyth, had been through hell with the war and he had not come out that battle whole. Loosing his hand had harden Cole which made him not be able to see the one woman he had been looking for.
Imogen Pritchard was a nurse at the local hospital and it will be there that she sees the man she had once spent the night with. Imogen had never forgotten Cole but the man that she saw was not the same man she had loved back then.
The Duke is the fourth book to the series Victorian Rebels by Kerrigan Byrne. I liked this book but it was by no means my favorite. I loved the last three books and couldn’t put them down. This one however was at times a struggle. I only continued to read because of the main character Imogen.
Imogen’s character had been a nurse and barmaid at a brothel, and now a lady thanks to her marriage. I loved her character for her strength and her intelligence. After all she had been through she wanted to help those around her, to make the world a better place. Cole’s character I felt was the complete opposite. He was selfish and cruel. Now the other heroes from the previous books were broken men but there was a strength about them, and there was goodness inside them. With Cole’s character he kept just being cruel and insulting to Imogen. The romance reader in me still wanted Imogen to have that happy ending and in the end Cole showed he loved her but it was a struggle to really like his character.
Kerrigan Byrne is continuing the series with the fifth book which will come out this October.
Coral Smythe was known as the Aphrodite. She had stopped entertaining men but she will be won through gambling for seven nights. Coral will be scared as her job was one she hated especially when Captain Wargate was not like all the other men out there.
Captain Isaac Wargate disliked his men gambling away their earnings but there was little he could do. All he could do was make sure his men made it back to the ship. Though this time Isaac will stay behind to help the Aphrodite who was being sold for seven nights.
The Ice Princess is the fourth book to the series Prince Trilogy by Elizabeth Hoyt. I really liked this story right from the start. I was pulled into the story right away.
Coral’s character was a woman who led a hard life but she did what she had to do. You felt bad for Coral when her freedom was taken away but she was a clever woman. Then there was Isaac who was a stern but a fair man. He had a softer side which showed when he saved Coral from the other men. Now since this was only a novella the story was fact paced but I liked how with each night she wrote them getting closer, they were connecting with each other.
The ending had a twist but with a nice surprise that left the romance reader in me happy.
Daniel was on a mission to find Regan. He will be shocked to find her a fighter and will become fascinated with the woman. He will do anything to protect Regan and at the same time find the men who took his sister.
Regan was living in a hellhole for the last two months and knew that no one was coming to get her. But Regan would not give up and let the bastards win. Though Regan will be rescued by a man who had been sent by Daisy, and she will fight to get back home.
Last Breath is the second book to the series Hitman by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick. I liked the book. I think that since I just read the first one I knew what to expect and it flowed really well, even with all the horrible things that happened.
Well there was certainly a lot of bad things that happened in the book. The major was with what happened to Regan’s character. I really liked her character but I felt it was a little unbelievable that she would be raped repeatedly and then want to be with Daniel later on in the book. And that was only just a few days after meeting him. Although I did like her with Daniel because it gave her someone to be happy with again. What I liked was that Regan’s character wasn’t broken. She was on the verge of being broken but it had not happened. So then there is Daniel’s character. He was strong and skilled in warfare. I liked that he was easy going but he was very lethal at the same time. His story was interesting as he was looking for his sister who had also been taken.
So I was really happy that the authors gave a conclusion with Mike, Regan’s boyfriend before she was taken. I liked it because it gave closure to Regan.
I am continuing with the series and will be reading Last Kiss next. This one is with Naomi who was Daniel’s sister.
Catherine Marks is a governess for the Hawthaway family and for three years she has felt accepted and part of a family. She hides her true self from all those around her but her secrets will start to come out and she will not be alone when she has to face her past.
Leo Hathaway has lived through tragedy and fell far from grace but he will be back on his feet trying to do what is right for his family. He will find that he will need to marry in order to keep their home. He doesn’t really want to but knows he needs to and he will look towards Catherine who usually fuels him with all the fights he can handle. Though he will start to see Catherine in a new light.
Married by Morning is the fourth book to the Hathaways series from Lisa Kleypas. For me the series keeps going well and I feel invested in these characters. Catherine and Leo were around in the beginning and it was interesting how you learned more about them throughout the books. Pieces to the puzzle were dropped in the paragraphs and you were left with more knowledge about who they were, this happened more with Catherine as her past was more of a mystery. I liked that Kleypas did not give the information away but kept dropping little subtle hints to let us know that it was not a past to be fond of or to remember. Catherine acted brave but she was still scared but it was more that she would become what she hated. Leo on the other hand had already turned into what he hated but survived. He was a good man and was certainly the hero of the story. He was protective of his family and that now included Catherine.
Their story was one that went up and down. They would fight at the beginning and it didn’t really matter what the subject was as they would argue no matter what. Then they found their rhythm as passion started to fill them when they encountered each other. Their love was sweet as it was something that was built and not instant.
The villain was definitely the man after Catherine but also the family of her past. They were a cruel as they didn’t think Catherine like a person but more like a thing that could be bought and sold. The villain no longer will be able to torment Catherine by the end of the book.
The last book is next with the youngest of the Hathaways.
Kate Taylor has been looking for where she belonged for years. Now she has a family coming to claim her and her world is turned upside down with what she finds out, but Thorne will be there to keep her from falling.
Corporal Thorne takes watching over Kate as his duty as it was many years ago. He has kept his distance in the last year but now with a family claiming her he will play the role of fiances to protect her.
The third book from Tessa Dare’s series Spindle Cove is A Lady By Midnight. This book was amazing to read. I am blown away each time I read a book from Tessa Dare who can write very well played out characters in a plot that you can’t get enough of. I tend to be a person who reads pretty fast. I slowed down with this novel enjoying and discovering what was Kate’s past, this mysteries family that showed up and how Thorne is connected to Kate’s past.
There are so many things i liked about this book. Firstly the character of Kate who has become a favorite character of mine. She was bold when she needed to be and not a shy miss but was still kind to those around her. Dare creates a good mystery involving her past and how Thorne collides with it. You knew that there was something between them right away from the other two books but until this one you weren’t really sure what was going on. Of course there was still a good wait to find out how Thorne and Kate’s past connected. Thorne’s character was a man of few words. I loved that he was protective but he kept his distance and explained little. He was a hero in the past when it came to Kate and that made you love him all the more.
The mystery of her family was one I wasn’t sure if it was real. Dare writes this family with many quirks and almost too good to be true which was hard to believe. Things do go in favor of Kate but it is still an uphill battle as secrets come out about the past and what is too be gained. A Lady By Midnight ends with a sweet epilogue giving a happy ending for all.
Lily St. Claire loves her family and will do what she needs to do to save them. Even when her past starts to show up but she will not be alone as unexpected help will emerge from a rogue whose family had destroyed the St. Claire’s long ago.
Lord Aidan Huntington knew he wanted her the moment he saw her. Aidan searched for the actress and then found her three years later. He will find himself getting closer and will find himself caring and wanting to help her when danger gets too close.
One Naughty Night by Laurel McKee is the first book to the series Scandalous St. Claire’s. I really liked this book. Not only were the characters ones I wanted to know more about, this was a very steamy book. The plot stays true to the title with how Aidan and Lily interact. As they are together whether they touch or not they are always about to burst with lust. They have instant attraction and lust and it is still there three years later. Now the book isn’t all about lust especially as our characters don’t trust each other completely, but there troubles surrounding them. The man in Lily’s past who can only be a vile villain that you want to see destroyed. I loved how there was justice at the end and how St. Claire’s and Huntington’s banned together for a greater purpose.
Scandalous St. Claire series is still new so there is only one other book out which I will want to read to find out what was going to happen with Dominic and Sophie as the grudge is still not over for St. Claire.
Lydia Slaughter plays a game of odds but with them on her side. Her goal is to win enough to win her freedom but a new obstacle will be in her way.
Will Blackshear is out of the war and comes out as a hero. He is coming back to London with an agenda at the gaming tables and will be consumed in a new wager.
After reading the first book of Cecilia Grant I wasn’t exactly jumping up from my seat to read the second book, A Gentleman Undone to the Blackshear Family series but as I had already picked it up from the library I went with it anyways. I will say that this book was better than the first. Still it didn’t grab me as I would like but it kept me reading nevertheless. In the book what did keep me reading was the intrigue and the matching of wits at the gambling tables. I found myself smiling at the thought of Lydia and her skills that were outside of the bedroom, counting cards. I also liked that Lydia and Will were equally paired when facing off.
So the series has been up and down but I will probably keep a look out for more of the series at a later point.
