Kelly Murphy is a tulip farmer with her father who she is very close to since her mother had left thirteen years ago. Her sister had left them three years after their mom. Then after ten years away her sister Olivia will walk through the door hoping to reconnect with her family.
Secrets of the Tulip Sisters is a novel by Susan Mallery. I haven’t read anything from Susan Mallery in awhile but I was given a free copy of this book and thought to try it out. I was blown away with this book, I really loved it. I was hooked right away and felt for the characters as if they were old friends.
The life of these Murphy sisters is very complicated especially with the secrets they are holding from each other. I wouldn’t go into the secrets they are holding back from each other but they are secrets that will hurt each other. I loved that even though the sisters were at odds half the time they were still sisters, there was still love there. The other story that is being told other than Kelly and Olivia is Helen, who is Kelly’s friend. Her story was engaging as well and its all connected to the Murphy family.
What drove me crazy was the mom who flew back into their lives. I wouldn’t go too much into the situation but let it be said that she is a truly selfish person. Then there is the father. I really liked him but he frustrated me as he didn’t stand up to his ex-wife. Though by the end I was back to really liking his character again.
Brenna Marcelli passion was the winery but for the last ten years that life had died thanks to her ex husband. She wants to now prove herself that she is good enough to run a winery which will lead her to her family’s nemesis to ask for a loan.
Nic Giovanni was a direct competition to the Marcelli’s winery and his only goal was to claim it. His opportunity comes when the woman he loved ten years ago ask him for a loan. He will give it knowing that when he calls it in she will be ruined.
The Seductive One is the third book to the series Marcelli Sisters of Pleasure Road by Susan Mallery. With each book I love this crazy family even more. This one I will say had a little more of cruelty within the book as revenge was a focus. On a side note I had thought this was already published on my site as I was reading these books in order last week. I guess I just saved it instead of publishing it, so here’s the review.
I liked Brenna’s drive and courage to try the winery business on her own. I thought she was wrong ten years ago for not following her heart with Nic but life is messy. Alright now I liked Nic but he was too headstrong with the idea of revenge. I could understand Nic’s pain but he was taking it too far and when the truth came out he would be the one left with heartbreak. Now besides revenge there is a steamy chemistry that these two characters have with each other. It was something that they could build from.
One character that is still driving me crazy is the grandfather. He was so old school that you wanted to smack so sense back into him. Though there will be a little surprise at the end with this family that will show you they have a chance to move into the twenty first century.
So the new brother, Joe, was not what I expected which I liked. I am looking forward to reading his story and finding out how his life with the Marcelli family will change him.
A Marcelli Wedding is a collection of two books, The Marcellie Bride and The Marcelli Princess by Susan Mallery. These are the last two series from the series Marcelli Sisters of Pleasure Road. I have already read the last book so I know what will be happening in Mia’s life but I will be rereading it right after the fourth book which will complete the series for me.
The Marcelli Bride
Joe Marcelli was new to his family and kept his distance as they wanted him to take his rightful place in the family. Instead Joe stayed with the Navy as that was his first love which will lead him to another job. He will have to protect one of the President’s daughter from another kidnapping attempt.
Darcy Jensen was the President’s daughter that everyone forgot. She didn’t like the limelight and felt like the outcast of the family. She will find herself being taken to a winery where she will feel special and loved for just being herself.
I really loved this book just like the other three. This one had a little more action with the kidnapping which Darcy went through. There is also a secret that Darcy carries which has made herself distant between her family. You find out the secret pretty quickly and I don’t blame her from being distant as it was a big blow to her reality. As far as Darcy’s character I liked her. She was not the strong heroine type but a nervous and scared woman who felt out of place. I liked that she flourished under the care of the Marcelli family. Now Joe is like an outsider as well to his family as he only has known them for a couple years. I liked Joe pretty much right from the beginning. He was a tough guy and guarded. You wanted him to let his guard down and let himself be loved, and you wanted Darcy to be that person to love him.
As a side note I thought Mia still was a little immature but you couldn’t help but like her. She does grow up in the last book and you get to see a knew side of Mia which I liked.
I thought that Marcelli Sisters of Pleasure Road series was a one that was worth reading and I enjoyed every book to this series.
Francesca Marcelli had a goal to get her degree in psychology which had her doing a social experiment. One of her experiments will lead her to Sam Reese. Francesca decided to take a chance and have a fling with Sam but things will get completed when his daughter shows up.
Sam Reese was thrilled when Francesca said she wanted no strings but things will get completed. Sam will find himself face to face with a daughter he had no knowledge about. He was out of depth handling a twelve year but he will find help from Francesca.
The Sassy One is the second book to the series Marcelli Sisters of Pleasure Road by Susan Mallery. I really loved this book. I am taken in with the story primarily because it was a really entertaining story. The family is still around and sometimes impossible but you know they love each other.
Francesca is self conscious of what others think about her and is doing her best to prove that she can do what she needs. In walks the complication which is Sam. She wanted a fling but of course you know that will not last especially when something Francesca had not expected happened. Now Sam was a good man but he was out of his limit when it came to children. It was pretty much like that throughout the book, it was like he wanted to pull his hair out in frustration and that whatever he did he screwed up with Kelly. It was realistic and it made me like his character because I was cheering for him to get it right. But with Sam there are more downs than ups.
There were a lot of things that happened within the book that were not just about Francesca and Sam. There was the introduction of Kelly, who is Sam’s daughter, who showed up out of the blue. I liked Kelly. I think Mallery wrote the character well because she certainly acted like a hurt teenager. Then there was the surprise brother. I was thrown with this but knew there was going to be a story with a male Marcelli as there are five stories and four of them are with the sisters. I am looking forward for the newest Marcelli’s story but first I have to read Brenna’s story who will be interacting with her first love. I will be reading her story next.
Katie Marcelli is a party planner and is landing a big job. The problem was the man who hired her, Zach Stryker, was too good looking and looked liked he was going to become her sisters Father-in-law, and he wanted nothing more to stop the wedding.
Zach Stryker knew that his son was marrying too young at eighteen. He just had to prove that his son was making a mistake but Zach will be distracted by the older sister of his son’s fiance.
The Sparkling One is the first book to the series Marcellie Sisters of Pleasure Road by Susan Mallery. I have to say that I really liked this book. It flew by as I wanted to know how Katie and Zach would find a way to be with each other.
I liked Katie’s character. She was a strong, independent woman but she was still timid when standing up to her family. Katie will have her moment which will have me cheering for her. Zach’s character I thought would be ruthless with this family but he really wasn’t. He was just a worried father. Now when Katie and Zach do find that they have chemistry the pages will sizzle. I really liked them together as they were perfect for each other, they just had to figure it out for themselves.
Alright now Mia I had already read about in the last book of the series, but it has been a while. I will be rereading that book as I go through the series. I liked Mia’s character, she was much more mature than David. Now David wasn’t a bad kid but that is what he was, a kid. I didn’t like how immature David got with what he did but it all turned out for the best.
Susan Mallery sets up the series by giving us insights to these sisters and this crazy family. The grandfather is a piece of work but you know they all love each other. I am going to be reading the second book next which will be all about Francesca.
Jesse Keyes had been away for five years. She had changed a lot but she turned back to that scared girl when facing the man she once loved and to the sister who hates her. Jesse will take the chance to reconnect and will find feelings for Matt were still there and not leaving anytime.
Matt Fenner had grown a lot in the last five years. He was colder and avoided any attachments. Now he will find he had a son all this time and his need for revenge against the mother will know no bounds. Matt will be consumed with revenge only to find that he will find out love for her was still there.
Sweet Trouble is the third and last book to Keyes Sisters series by Susan Mallery. After reading the two previous book I was waiting to find out how Jesse will fair. Mallery gives a back story with her and Matt which was interesting how they had evolved into a couple. It was heartbreaking to know what was going to happen to them. I was happy that Nicole finally does forgive and there is clarity with the sisters. It was nice to see that Jesse had grown up and had done something with her life. She wasn’t that scared kid anymore and was determined at least when she wasn’t facing down her sister or her ex. Now Matt was a sweet man who was now scorned with rage and wanted revenge. You wanted him to take the chance to really connect and be with Jesse and Gabe but life is never that easy. It was interesting to read how he progressed from his revenge to acceptance.
All the side characters were great. I liked Matt’s mom who gave acceptance to Jesse right away. She was a person to stand in Jesse’s corner when the time was needed. Gabe, the four year old, was precious and gave Matt and Jesse the chance to even open up to the possibility to have a relationship once again.
Now the book had its up and downs throughout most of the pages. It was predictable because you knew exactly what would happen when Matt got a conscious. It would be too late but I liked that he did not give up. I sat there wondering if Jesse was being overly harsh but from her point of view he was trying to take away her son so she had a right to be furious. A happy ending does happen but it was one to be earned. Matt had to grovel and Jesse had to forgive. They both had to let go of the past.
After reading the Keyes Sisters series I wanted to read more from Susan Mallery but for right now I am taking a break from her and moving onto Donna Kauffman whom I have read before.
Nicole Keyes has had her world turned upside down with her divorce thanks to her sister Jesse while her other sister, Claire, has returned home. Nicole wants to change and live her life. She will meet Hawk and starts a sexual relationship but life is never that easy. Nicole soon finds herself saddled with a teenager and all the things that come with it.
Hawk saw Nicole in the bakery and knew he wanted her. Hawk was good at getting women to notice him but he never went into relationships. With Nicole it will be different but he will keep her from reaching that point especially when he has his daughter and star quarterback to worry about.
Sweet Spot is the second book to Keyes Sisters series by Susan Mallery. The first one was an onslaught of emotion at least in the first half but it was really enjoyable. The second book had the emotional onslaught in the second half when things started to unravel for Nicole and Hawk as well as Brittney and Raoul. I liked that Nicole and Hawk walked into this sort of relationship with their eyes wide opened. What changes is when Nicole finds herself seeing that she wants more. She changes more and more thanks to her kind of foster kid, Raoul. The kid Raoul I really liked. The parts where he interacted with Drew was comical and very sweet. I thought he was a great character who was thoughtful and was too good for Brittney but I guess it was young love. I hope that Brittney changes and becomes mature.
Back to Hawk and Nicole I did really like their dynamic together as they are both hard headed people but love those around them at least most of the time in Nicole’s case. Mallery does a good job at the ending when all the spoiling Hawk did for his daughter will come back to bite him in the ass. Brittney is not a bad daughter just spoiled. I like that Nicole doesn’t fall for his apologize the first time around. Hawk has to work at it which he was not used to.
I have to say that this is a very enjoyable series to read so far and I am itching to read the third and final book. I was happy that Nicole did not hate Jesse as much but I was unsure if she knew her ex husband and her sister did not sleep together. I guess I will find out in the third book with Jesse’s story which I am reading next.
