‘Til Death Do Us Part

'Til Death Do Us PartCalista Langley operated a business that helped single men and women find someone they could possible be with. Her business was going well with the help of her brother but she was plagued with someone who was watching her. When she receives her third gift she will get help from an author who will help find her stalker.

Trent Hastings was an accomplished author and he had come to Calista’s to make sure she was not a fraud as his sister was Calista’s client. Trent will find himself intrigued by Calista and he will find himself helping with her stalker issue.

‘Til Death Do Us Part is a novel by Amanda Quick. I really liked this novel. I will say that at times I thought the transitions were a little abrupt. I wanted more details with the characters. I also found the romance between Trent and Calista was not a big part of the novel like it is with some of her other novels. Though I will say that didn’t really bother me, it was more of an observation. What I really liked was that they had formed a partnership to help each other with the case, that brought me back to an earlier series Lavinia Lake/Tobias March.

Calista’s character was a business woman. I liked Calista because she had endured and was resourceful. She was level headed and did not believe in romance, not as she did as a young girl. I liked that her character stayed true till the very end. Although she did soften up a little. Trent’s character was interesting as he was a writer. I liked that he took on the style of his character when trying to solve the case.

With the side characters I wanted to know more about them. I really liked Trent’s sister and Calista’s brother. With Trent’s sister it looks like her story is finished but I wonder about Andrew. It would be interesting if he got his own story as he started his own detective agency.

Now in Quick’s style of mystery she certainly had me guessing about who the villain was which I liked though it was short lived as I guessed who the villain was pretty quickly. Though there was a twist that had me rethinking my guess.

I am looking forward to reading the next novel by Amanda Quick which comes out in May of next year.

Garden of Lies

Garden of LiesUrsula Kern owns Kern Secretarial Agency with a couple of employees. When one of her employee ends up dead and Ursula knows it wasn’t suicide. She will go in search of answers from Anne’s last employment, she will find help from Slater Roxton her last employer. She will quickly learn that darker things were happening in the house.

Slater Roxton had been trapped on an island for one year which changed his life. Getting back to his normal routine was not going to happen so Slater changed his ways. Instead of fitting in with society he became an oddity. When Ursula comes into his life he knows that he doesn’t want to part from her, which leads him on a quest to help find her employees murderer.

Garden of Lies is a novel by Amanda Quick. I really loved this book. Amanda Quick aka Jayne Ann Krentz has been a favorite of mine for many years. The plot immediately intrigued me and I was pulled right into the story.

Ursula’s character was a woman who had a career and worked hard at it. I liked Ursula’s conviction to do the right thing. She was a strong woman who wanted to do the right thing but she was also someone who acted first, thought second. With Ursula’s character she is hiding something which of course will come out though more towards the middle. Slater’s character was an oddity but that was what I liked about him. He was quiet and thoughtful but could be ruthless if needed to be.

The villain was clear in my mind but then things got twisted. That usually happens in an Amanda Quick novel. I thought she wrote the twist well.

Otherwise Engaged

Otherwise EngagedMiss Amity Doncaster has dealt with scandal from six years ago as it still follows her but she will be in a different danger when she steps into the wrong carriage. The murderer named the Bridegroom will almost gets his hands on her but she will escape. The danger will not be over as now she had to find this killer before she is threatened again, she will find help from Benedict Stanbrige.

Benedict Stanbridge was a spy for the Crown and was almost killed but because of Amity Doncaster he was still breathing. He will feel gratitude but much more for this woman. Benedict will have to do all that he can to save this woman from the murderer.

Otherwise Engaged is a standalone novel by Amanda Quick a.k.a Jayne Ann Krentz. I had originally thought that this was going to be a continuation of the series Ladies of Lantern Street but I quickly figured out that it was not. I wasn’t too distraught as I love to read her books and it has been a while since I got a new book from this period so I was excited to read it. Her books are like a guilty pleasure for me. They’re the books that I can always reread over and over. This novel was one that I really enjoyed and reminded me of her other novels with the intrigue, murder, investigation and the connection between the two characters. Yes it is a formula as most authors have it, but I couldn’t put it down. I needed to know who was the villain and there were several to chose from so it was hard to make an accurate guess which made the book entertaining to read.

Amity was a world traveler and an accomplished one at that. She has dealt with scandal and deals with it again in the wake of this murderer. She is brave and expresses herself with no difficulty which I liked about her. Then there is Benedict who was clearly a man of mystery and was good at his job being a spy. Those abilities of investigation would come in handy to help Amity. I liked their teamwork as it was a give and take partnership.

The villain as I said above could have been a handful of people which left me guessing and trying to solve the plot as I read. This is something I like to do and when I can’t figure out the murderer before they are revealed I know that the author did a good job with writing the story.

The Mystery Woman

The Mystery WomanWith the Arcane Society new series have been branched off with the author Jayne Ann Krentz and her two other pen names. I have been reading Amanda Quick’s book since I found them and so far devoured everyone of them. She has a way with writing her novels that pull you into the situation and weaving that web of mystery. The Mystery Woman is no exception to that rule which is the second book to the Ladies of Lantern Street series.

Beatrice Lockwood is under disguise as a paid companion working on a secret mission for her employers. She will soon find herself tangled up with a mysterious man who leaves in the shadows of the night, Joshua Gage. He will not be an easy man especially as he is after Beatrice for more than he lets on.

Before reading the book I went back to Crystal Gardens and reminded myself of the series. I then read about Evangeline’s friends Beatrice and Claire, so I figured the third book whenever it comes out will be on Claire which is great as I was intrigued by Evangeline’s two friends. So back to The Mystery Woman with Beatrice and Joshua. I have found that this story was more on the mystery which was not a bad thing. It was a little darker and pulled you into the story immediately and what kept you going was the mystery behind the characters. On their own Beatrice and Joshua were great especially with their own secrets that they held from each other, but together they were fantastic and you wanted more.

I can’t wait to read Claire’s story.

Crystal Gardens

Not knowing that Amanda Quick aka Jayne Ann Krentz had a new release I happily took the book from my grab and go section in my library. Crystal Gardens is the latest paranormal romance book and the first book of the new series Flint & Marsh.

Evangeline Ames is a paid companion but that is not all she does. She  is a writer and secret investigator in high society, but now she is on break. Two attempted murders in the same year is tough on a person. Evangeline manged to avoid the second attempt by going into her nearest neighbor, the Crystal Gardens.

Lucas Sebastian owns the Crystal Gardens and takes intruders seriously especially with the recent passing of his Uncle. Lucas helps the damsel but the danger doesn’t stop when the intruder drops dead. Lucas will help protect Evangeline but he will soon find out the villain might want something of his as well.

With passion, the Crystal Gardens and their paranormal abilities in high gear Evangeline and Lucas will come together. But there will not be a moments peace as treasure hunters are around at every corner and would be murders.

Reading and loving most of Amanda Quick’s books I knew that Crystal Gardens would be enjoyable before I flipped to the first page. Now saying all that I am torn as I went to read I found myself thinking of the other arcane society books and how this feels familiar. That was a little disappointing until I went further into the story and you are swept into the story.

The story line yes is similar to the others with a mysterious item or powers and the two main characters are both powerful with their abilities, but Quick brings in twists or little surprises to keep you invested.

With Quick she gets you in with the intrigue the plot and characters generate through the pages. You want to know more of the danger and the villain. Or will the two characters ever find that love they were not looking for.

Quick also brings humor and wit to the pages with Lucas’s family and Evangeline’s friends. Without those side characters Crystal Gardens would be a good story but I feel incomplete.

I look forward to how Quick will continue this new series and what other problem will occur in the paranormal way.

Quicksilver

I have been looking at the book, Quicksilver, on the shelves for a month wondering if I was going to pick up the book. Anything by Amanda Quick I will read but with series I hate the waiting process especially if there is a inclusive ending. Fortunately with Quick’s books there are always endings which will leave you satisfied but even with no cliff hanger it is sometimes torture to wait for those books to arrive.

But with Amanda Quick she is worth the wait. Quicksilver is the second book to the Looking Glass Trilogy and it is riveting to read.

Virginia Dean is in a dilmena when she wakes up next to a dead body but trouble does not end there as she can’t remember how she got to be in the bed. Virginia will be saved the a man she met once but would never forget.

Owen Sweetwater hunts down killers and he is hunting one now only to find Virginia Dean in the mist of a very big problem. Owen helps out Virginia and asks for her assistance. He knows she has true power and he needs that help with finding a killer.

The arcane society took more of a step back and let those who still have paranormal powers take the stage. I liked the characters of Virginia Dean and Owen Sweetwater. They are written well and intriguing as they use their powers and how their lives are intertwined. Virginia’s powers seeing through the mirrors is haunting and you want to know more. I liked also Owen and how his family is explored through the story. There is wit that is hinted through the story.

The plot is like many of the arcane society but there is something about the characters that makes you want to read and see how their fates with end.

I like how Amanda Quick (really Jayne Ann Krentz) has several identities and how they are cross refrenced through the series she writes. It was clever of Krentz to create series that travels through the past, present and future. I have yet to really get into the future series but I guess at times I am still stuck in the past as the Victorian Period is just where I love to read.

Quicksilver was fast and thrilling to read and a great addition to the arcane society books.

Seduction by Amanda Quick

Seduction was the last thing Sophy wanted but that is what she will be getting when she is arranged to marry Julian the Earl of Ravenwood. She had been in love with him since she was eighteen but her motives are to first find her sisters lover who abandon her after ruining her but Julian will have a lot to say about the fact that his wife will not do anything dangerous.

The playfulness of Seduction was fun to read. Julian’s character gave the book edge with his own roughness which lead the reader to want him to find a happy ending with his wife this time.

Sophy was an absolute delight to read. She was not your average female. She read and wanted her own rights in the marriage which she demands and gets to a point. But her bravery is what drives Sophy as she is looking for her sisters lover and trying to have Julian find love with her. Her strength has the reader cheering for her.

Seduction is wonderful to read with blackmail, murder, ex-mistress, the ton, a wives duty and love.
