Jessie Pringle had survived a brutal attack and came out of the attack with scars on the outside of her body and inside. Jessie moved to Maine to start a new life where she was not the victim. She will meet a man, Ian MacKeage, who attracts her and has her taking the next step. Though before she starts a new life there are questions that Jessie will start to ask about her tragic night as her memory lapse started to clear up.
Highlander for the Holidays is the eighth book to the series Pine Creek Highlanders series by Janet Chapman. I really liked this book which has finished up the series. I thought there was a little more mystery to the book especially with the tragic past which Jessie survived.
Jessie’s character intrigued me when I found out that she had a rescue dog. I wanted to know what had happened and why the dog was there to help her. I also wanted to make sure that she found her happiness with Ian with her going through so much and for her find out what really happened that night. Now Ian’s character I was confused for just a moment. For one moment thought he was the original Ian that was introduced in the first book. Well obviously that didn’t make sense as he would be an older man. This Ian was the son of Sadie and Morgan which is written into the story. I really liked Ian. He was a little laid back but very protective of Jessie especially when he finds out about her past. I liked that Ian was like his father and telling Jessie that scars did not matter. His kindness will have you cheering for him and Jessie to be happy.
The villain I had to say was predictable for me. I only guessed one person and I was right. There were many clues about the person that had murdered Jessie’s husband and had injured Jessie in the process.
I thought that Chapman gave a great ending for Jessie and Ian that followed well for Pine Creek Highlanders series.
Wrath is a powerful vampire who has been alone for centuries consumed with his need for vengeance. He is part of a brotherhood that protects and Wrath will find himself saddled with a new person to protect, the daughter of one of his oldest friends. Unknowingly to Wrath this woman will mean much more to him than just a person to protect.
Beth Randall was a reporter and did her job well. She was liked by many but soon her life will change forever. After meeting a mysterious man she will find out exactly who she really was and what was destined to happen to her.
Dark Lover is the first book to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. I have to say that I have passed by this author numerous times as I walked down the aisles of my library. I never felt the need to grab one of the books that is until I was told repeatedly to try it, so I did.
First off I really loved this book, but this is the second time I started it. I had started the book too late the other night and I think speed reading way too fast. There is a lot of information that was getting lost, so I stopped for the night. I picked it up the next day and started again right from the beginning of the book. I don’t know what it was but I started to get into this book right away. Maybe it was because I wasn’t too tired and the fact I was not speed reading, I was taking my time. By taking my time I found myself falling right into the story of Wraith, Beth and the brotherhood. I also liked that Ward makes the rules different with vampires with how they can eat regular food. She also created her own glossary about this vampire world which was kind of cool as it brings you into this world.
Wrath is a kick ass kind of vampire who is lonesome. I found him surprising with what was under his sunglasses and how it is a weakness but he has overcome it and is still the strong warrior. I also found it interesting that becoming a vampire didn’t heal that ailment like some vampire books have described. Beth was a brave woman who is getting her world rocked with all that is happening to her. The romance is a factor in the book between Wrath and Beth within the first moment they officially meet as he scared her with his presence. The second meeting however is a little different and much more explosive. This story is definitely a paranormal romance novel as there are vampires running about the pages and I thought that Ward was creative with the turning process of Beth as she was half human/half vampires.
The enemy are called the Lessers and the guys who is being focused on being the enemy is Mr. X who is a sadistic man. Well at the end of the book the enemy is defeated but these Lessers are far from over as they will be a group that the brotherhood will have to keep fighting.
With all the brothers who are mentioned I know that each one of them will have their own book and more will follow as this is a pretty big series. I am excited that there are plenty of books to read. I have the second book which I will be reading next.
Carly Linton was back in her the home where she moved to when she was a little kid. With the help of her friend they were opening a bed and breakfast for the town but a burglar will make things difficult for them. Carly will soon find out that the burglar was after her.
Matt Converse was sheriff in the small town. He had many responsibilities which included protecting his town, his sisters and now the woman that he had known twelve years ago. Matt will make it his mission to protect Carly and find the person who was after her.
Whispers at Midnight is a novel by Karen Robards. First off loved this book. I was pulled into the plot and could not put it down. I started this book right after dinner and did not stop reading until I reached the last page. There was a desire to find out the person who was after Carly and who killed those other two woman.
Matt is an interesting character. He is the sheriff and a big brother so he is over protective but he is sometimes a little too obtuse. Carly was a girl in love with the bad boy and was heartbroken. She gets the chance at heartbreak again when she lets him in. Together they had a certain sarcasm which played out between them. It was their way of talking it seemed but it fit as they were both too afraid to take that next step. They will get it right, it just takes some danger, a little jealousy and some honesty.
Alright the mystery of the man was not obvious when I was reading it. At first I kept thinking who would be after Carly and how were they connected. Well you find out it was the institution where children lived when they had nowhere else to go. That was the obvious connection but the thought of what happened stayed with me. I kept thinking about what could have happened and I didn’t really have a clue that is until the mystery was solved. I was shocked with what happened, it was pretty disturbing. Robards writes out those surprises well and it will keep you on your toes throughout the story.
Nell Calder was an ordinary woman who was a wife and mother but she will find herself in a horrendous situation. Her family will be attacked and killed at a party. Nell will survive but barely. She holds on with the hope to get her revenge which is where a man named Tanek who will train her to fight their mutual enemy.
The Ugly Duckling is a novel written by Iris Johansen. This book was a really fantastic thriller that will keep you on your toes until the very end. I have read many books by Johansen and each book that I have read I have loved to read. She is a great storyteller when it comes to suspense thrillers. You get swept up into the story.
So the character of Nell was a loving yet shy and weak housewife. That all changes when she was cut up and left for dead. I liked Nell’s determination that came with this horrific change in her life. She struggles and fights to get stronger, to fight the man that destroyed her life. I liked how Tanek trained her, he did not sugar coat the training and made her fight harder if only to learn to protect herself. Now Tanek was a solider, a man who manipulated and fought for what he wanted. Though he really was a good guy, just hard around the edges. He wanted revenge against the same man which made Nell and Taneck perfect partners.
I thought the idea of her transformation was interesting. When her attack happened it was very damaging to her body and her face was destroyed. She became a beauty which was something she had been told would never happen. Her beauty helped opened doors which brought her closer to her revenge.
Within the book there were plenty of twists where you thought one thing another thing happened it completely changed the situation. Or the person you thought was good turned bad. Johansen kept you guessing, though one thing she made sure happened was for Nell and Tanek to get their revenge.
Sheridan Kohl was coming back home due to new evidence that was found about the shooting she survived while Jason Wyatt did not. Sheridan is guilt ridden over that night as she only went out with Jason to make Cain jealous. Coming back home she will be given a surprise with an attack that will leave her almost dead but she will survive thanks to Cain. Together they will try to find her attacker and ultimately who attacked her twelve years ago.
Cain Granger was the troubled kid, the unwanted kid once his mother had died. Then he got the chance with a popular girl and knew he the day after he made a mistake by not calling her. He knew they had something but he pushed it aside. Now twelve years later Cain will be playing protector for her as they try to find out what happened exactly twelve years ago.
Watch Me is the third book from the series Last Stand by Brenda Novak. Like the other two books this story was very captivating. It intrigued me with all the deceit and the hatred the characters shared for each other and who this murderer was. Needless to say I was on my couch reading each page with anticipation.
Sheridan is ridden with guilt and a broken heart from twelve years ago. It was not easy for Sheridan coming back but she was determined. I liked her bravery with coming back to the place where she almost died. That shows how strong her character was and I liked that about her. It was pretty horrific with what happened to Sheridan when she comes back home, almost beaten too death. She will stay to find the murderer. She still plays the good daughter but I am happy to read that she was becoming more than just her parents daughter and wanting something or someone for herself like Cain. Now Cain is considered the outsider of the family and really only works with his dogs, away from people. He was more comfortable with animals than with people. I liked Cain as he was flawed thinking he was worthless and he had some bumps in the road. When it comes to Sheridan he still that scared kid thinking they couldn’t make it work. They get it together but it will be far from perfect as there needs to be trust that is to built. There is also his ex wife of 3 months, divorced 10 years ago, was still obsessed with him and it was not healthy. I didn’t like Amy and she caused a lot of problems and was the instigator for Cain’s problems. She will be having her own problems later on in the book.
So bad guys are overwhelming in this book. Maybe they are not true villain but they are mean spirited people with lost of hatred or followed the hate that was attached to Cain. With all of that hatred it was hard to guess who would be the person who attacked Sheridan, both times. I had a guess of the attacker but then I decided to change my mind. I guessed again but after that time I stopped trying because even though Novak was giving clues it wasn’t conclusive as it had you guessing from one to another. When the villain is revealed I am not shocked as that person was my first guess but what is shocking is the amount of hatred they had for both Cain and Sheridan.
I am reading The Perfect Couple which is the fourth book to the series.
Caroline “Caro” Sutcliff had no desire to marry again. One political marriage was enough for her. She had to make sure her niece did not have the same fate. She will pull Michael’s attention from Elizabeth but he will turn toward her.
Michael Anstruther-Wetherby needed a wife to keep going in his career. He had a bride in mind even though she was on the younger side. He will get advice to find a more sophisticated woman and he will take that advice and look towards Caro for his ideal bride.
The Cynster series keeps going with the twelfth book from Stephanie Laurens. The title of the book, The Ideal Bride, describes the story perfect. An ideal bride is being looked for by Michael. I liked that Michael turned toward Caro but he was not one to push her into something she was fearing. He was a man who knew what he wanted but knew when to hold back. Caro was a woman who wanted to see her niece happy. I liked that Michael was the man that pulled out what she kept inside her. She was not an experienced woman and Michael became the teacher which let them learn about each other. She does not change her mind about marriage overnight which works with her character.
The Ideal Bride is another good book to the series. I am trying to read more of the series together which led me to find the remaining books from the Cynsters at my library. So now I have five more to go to finish up the series.
Sophia is on a mission to find her Sire who has gone missing and trouble will not be far away as several vampires and their mates have been attacked or killed. Sophia will find help in Raphael’s group but will be stunned to find a man in the group she had left ten years ago.
Colin Murphy lives peacefully in the small town but now several attacks have been done to vampires and their mates. Colin will join the vampires to find out who is murdering them but he will be distracted as Sophia will be part of the group.
The fourth book of D B Reynolds Vampires in America series is Sophia. So when I started this book and met the character Sophia I wasn’t really liking her especially as she tried using her wiles on Raphael with Cyn by his side. As Raphael and Cyn are my favorite I don’t like anyone who threatens to break them up, but I figured as she is the main person in the book I would warm up to her character and did. Sophia in her own right is a strong character as she has a lot of depth to her but its hidden and secret from those around her. I loved that she had a past with the tough Colin Murphy. Colin is an ex Navy Seals and is hard as nails especially as he closed up his heart ten years ago when the woman he loved died. Lust was driving the two characters which made the book spicier with those two heating up the pages once they got over the shock of seeing each other again. Of course lust wasn’t the only driving force as love swept in or that it never left them.
Sophia to me was bloodier than Reynolds other books. I guess as the plot dealt with death it was to be expected, but Reynolds does a very good job at the description along with the bad guys. The group of men who were doing the killing were lethal and deceitful. She does especially good job at describing the tragedy that hits close to Raphael. It does not end fatal but certainly a close call which had my fingers tightening at the sides of the pages. Now Luicen’s character left me annoyed. He was a weak character to begin with and I was not unhappy with what happened at the end.
The fifth book to the series is going to be Duncan’s story which I can’t wait to read as he has been by Raphael’s side for more than two hundred years. It will be interesting to read where Reynolds will take Duncan’s story.
