Talk Sweetly to Me

Talk Sweetly to MeMiss Rose Sweetly was fascinated by astronomy and was very smart when it came to mathematics. What Rose is not smart about is when it comes to the flirting Mr. Stephen Shaughnessy

Stephen Shaughnessy had noticed Rose Sweetly right away and was charmed by her. He found himself falling in love with Rose little by little. He just had to convince her that his feelings were real.

Talk Sweet to Me is a novella in the series Brother Sinister. I liked this novella. I thought that this story was short, sweet and very much to the point.

In the previous book Stephen was introduced and you knew that he was a rogue but was a good man who had a sense of humor. I liked that he was very set in his desire to have Rose but not as his mistress, as his wife. Now Rose was very smart when it came to numbers and science. I liked how Milan wrote Rose to be that smart, to give her character a chance to explore her talent.

When I started this book I realized that it was going to be about an interracial relationship. I find that kind of relationship is a rarity in the historical books that I read. Milan wrote the relationship well. I thought the relationship fit well into this series as it was all about moving forward and changing how the world was.

Well I am at the end of the series with what Milan has written for Brother Sinister. I don’t know it there will be more, I will be happy to read more if she writes them, otherwise there will be other books to try of hers.

Seeking Celeste by Hayley Ann Solomon

Mistaken identity, penniless, alone and determined Miss Anne Derringer is on her own trying to find a way to survive in this world.  Trying her fortune at investing created Anne to be penniless as her investment sunk into the ocean.  On top of everything else Anne had been dubbed a bluestocking because of her continual interest in astronomy, but keeping those things out of her head she went seeking to find employment as a companion.  This was her only job until she is left on the side of the road and mistaken for the new governess for Lord Edgemere’s siblings.  Trying to explain Lord Edgemere “Robert” is not listening he is only concentrating on her appeal which is not a good idea.

Finally the next day Anne is able to explain as the actual governess comes into the house.  Robert takes it upon himself to keep Anne as the governess even if the appeal is great.  He made a promise that as long as she was in his employment she would be safe.  Anne accepted this but knew it was not a smart idea.

As the days passed things progressed nicely for everyone.  Some days Robert were in town which was more pleasant for Anne and her state of mind.  The children were growing more and more attached to Anne as she was to them.  When Robert was home Anne found him hard to resist and the same for Robert.  But then trouble came in the form of Lady Caroline who was too friendly with Robert and insisted that he marry her.  Robert did not want to and had to find a way out.  He would have to do his own planning to get the woman he wanted.

I really liked the characters in this story.  Anne was a strong woman trying to do her best in a world that dubbed her unworthy.  I liked Robert and his continual drive to help his family.  The banter between the two was funny as where the children’s antics .  Lady Caroline was one that you wanted to hate but she was clever with her own plotting even though it didn’t really work.  I liked Hayely Ann Solomon’s writing.  The characters and plot were interesting and thoughout.  This was a fun and quick romance to read that left you smiling.
