All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue

All the ways to ruin a rogueLady Aurelia loved Max when she was nine years old but was shattered and brokenhearted at fifteen when she found him to be a rogue. Because of that night Aurelia made it her mission never to get along with Max. For year they bickered back and fourth but thing will start to escalate from heated arguments to heated embraces.

Max, Viscount Camden, had been friends with Lady Aurelia since she was a young child. He was astonished when she ruined his reputation some years later. After that he made sure that rumor was gotten rid of. He made it his mission to fight verbally with Aurelia whenever she was around otherwise he might do something he would regret, like taking her for his own.

All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue is the second book to the Debutante Files by Sophie Jordan. I really enjoyed this book. It was hard at times because of all the fighting. I thought that they should be adults and really talk about the problem, but that was never going to happen. I did like how Sophie Jordan wrote the bickering between the two. It seemed real. There are times in books when enemies go to lovers and its a little too unbelievable. I thought that she did a good job because when they became lovers all was not forgiven, at least yet.

Aurelia’s character acted like a child at times but I still liked her.  Aurelia is also an artist and she is gusty for leaving her drawings for others to find. I also liked that she finally was doing something more for herself in the book. She was not necessarily a wallflower but she didn’t really go against the grain often. Then there is Max. Max was a scoundrel and he was good at it. I didn’t always like Max because I felt he was throwing his life away. I was happy to have Max finally be with Aurelia because then you knew the scoundrel would slowly disappear.

As I said above the romance between them starts but doesn’t heal all things between them. That will need time and for both characters to learn to trust one another, not just lust after each other and it does happen.

So to me this sounds like the end of the series but one never knows if another book will be written.

The Collector

The CollectorLila Emerson was house sitting when she looked across and saw in the window a couple fighting like they had been before. Lila will be shocked to witness a woman being pushed out of the window but she will not have clear view of the person who pushed the woman. She will do what she can to help solve the case with Aston, the brother of the deceased. She will not know that doing this will be putting her life in danger.

Artist Ashton Archer has just lost his brother who was thought to have murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself. Ash knew that was not the case and would enlist the help of the key eyewitness, Lila, to help prove it wasn’t his brother who murdered the woman. But by enlisting Lila’s help he will be putting her life and his own in danger.

The Collector is a novel by Nora Roberts. I am an avid reader of Nora Roberts and will most always try her books as she is a good author and her books are enjoyable. I am not going to her books as much but when a book comes out that sounds interesting I willingly read the book. Now this book had its good moments with intrigue of this murder/suicide and who was the real mastermind behind it all, but other than that I didn’t connect with the main characters.

Lila and Ashton were characters that came together in time of tragedy and confusion. I liked them for the most part but I couldn’t believe that they were together. I get that with tragedy you bond but for some reason with how they were created to be I couldn’t see it. How Roberts writes her stories you are pulled into the story but I felt that I grew a little bored with all that was happening. When the action and intrigue part was upon us the story for me grew interesting because I wanted to know the person behind it all and know the reason why they are doing it.

You are introduced to one of the villains in the book pretty quickly and they are vindictive but to know the person who is pulling the strings to this job that is what was driving me to continue the story.

I will still be back for more on Nora Roberts as there are plenty of novels to read from her that I have yet to try.

Destiny

DestinyNash Barron liked his life in his hometown but with his estranged brother back he had not been one to want his big brother back. Now that some time has passed Nash is learning to forgive after all these years with the help of Kelly. As this all happens Nash will find new facts about his life.

Kelly Moss settled into the town Serendipity to be close to her half sister. She will be finding herself getting closer to Nash and sparks will fly between them but she doesn’t want to lose her heart to him.

Destiny is the second book to the series Serendipity from Carly Phillips. From start to finish I liked the book. There were little surprises that revealed secrets of the characters, Nash and Kelly. I was intrigued by the book and found myself flying through the pages.

Nash was a hard man with a grudge but he does lighten up throughout the book. Kelly was hiding her own secrets that embarrassed her for her poor judgment, but in reality she did everything she could. She grew from that experience which hardened her a little, much like Nash. But both did find a way to be together, it helped with the steamy connection that happened between them. I had wondered for a little if his ex wife was going to be a problem but she wasn’t. In fact she had her own love story in the book with the bartender Joe. They were pretty quick to have their own happy ending. Kelly and Nash had a harder time finding that peace that would bring their own happiness.

I went and looked for more books from the author and saw some other books that are part of the series Serendipity with characters Kate and Lissa getting their own novellas. It also looks like there is a series called Serendipity’s Finest which I wouldn’t mind reading. Since she does have a lot of books out from other series I will have plenty of choices to pick from.

The Naked Viscount

With a couple of books of the series I have the idea of how Sally MacKenzie writes and I really only want more. Reading the series out of order does not matter because the series can be picked up from any order.

The Naked Viscount is the sixth book of the Naked Nobility series.

Lady Jane Parker-Roth is on the shelf according to everyone even to her but Jane doesn’t care as the man she wants doesn’t pay attention to her. For eight seasons she wanted Edmund Smyth to pay attention but now tables are turning. With catching an intruder she finds that Edmund is sneaking about and together they are going to be together in a mystery of Pan.

Edmund Smyth is trying to find the scandal and is gathering proof but Jane gets in the way and will be caught in the same trouble. Edmund doesn’t mind as he is seeing Jane a little differently. All he sees is the woman she has become and he wants to get to know her better. With the active search of the statues of the god Pan, Edmund and Jane will be thrust into a dangerous mystery.

This series is very addicting and you want to know more about the characters and what makes them tick. I liked how the shy Jane gets the courage to be more wanton. And of course the straight lace Edmund will fall under Jane’s spell once he now sees her for the woman she is.  The added effect with secret meetings where the woman are used was interesting to read as it lead to mystery and intrigue with danger lacing through the scenes.

The added characters of the aunts of Edmund and mother of Jane brought the story alive with their witty banter and their pets.

The Naked Viscount was a fun addition to the Naked Nobility series and I can’t wait to continue with MacKenzie’s series.

Blackmail is never good the second time around

Caleb Ventures is a man who prides himself in making the right decisions. He has avoided all trials of being a burden to his family and to stay above scandals which would haunt him like the past which follows him. But when it comes to Serenity he takes a step back while taking two steps forward. He is in over his head but something is telling him to believe in her and forgive his past. To stand up for the woman who gave birth to him.

Serenity Makepeace is her towns only child born directly in town. She has no real parents but many friends who had taught her through the years. Serenity wants to help her town and that means to get the business to grow. She finds help from Caleb but problems start happening when she is blackmailed.

Jayne Ann Krentz is a favorite of mine but I have to say Hidden Talents had me stuck at the beginning. I liked the plot and characters but it wasn’t flowing for me as well. Then you get into the story and the plot holds you and wouldn’t let go. I wanted to know who was the blackmailer and would our two characters find that happiness.

I liked that the blackmail came up again from the past to now a new person which kept it real for this family to get over with. The blackmailer is of course the same person which was another link but Krentz will try to mislead the reader.

The villain/blackmailer I had a feeling but until the end you know for sure. I liked the outcome as it was not easy love story. There were bumps and mystery that kept the book from an easy going novel and kept you involved.

Concannon Sister Trilogy by Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts brings Ireland back to the pages with the three novels, Born in Fire, Born in Ice, and Born in Shame in the series of the Concannon Sister Trilogy.

Born in Fire

Maggie was a loner, liked it that way unless she was with people she loved.  Like her father who she loved more than life it’s self.  Or her sister Brianna.  Maggie tolerated her mother to the best she could but there was no love lost on either side.  When Maggie started to sell a few items of her glass tragedy hit Brianna and Maggie.  Their father died while Maggie was with him.  But he left a small mystery behind him, who was Amanda?

Maggie and her sister continued to live their lives.  Brianna setting up a B and B and Maggie with her glass which was now making more interest as Rogan Sweeney came into the picture.

Rogan Sweeney, art dealer, already got hold of some of her pieces wanted to make Maggie famous.  He wanted her work, it intrigued him.  He comes to her with an offer but Maggie doesn’t agree at first.  She doesn’t trust him but she finally gives in.  Of course that is not the only thing that Rogan wants, he wants Maggie.

Maggie is overwhelmed with the new life that was being given to her but she didn’t want it all.  She liked certain aspects but wanted to be at home to do her art.  Maggie’s heart only had room for her art and family but now it was making room for other possibilities with Rogan.

Born in Ice

Brianna owns a small cottage that is a B and B.  She is loved by her sister Maggie and her brother-in-law Rogan who are now expecting their first child.  Brianna was not happy but content with her life because there was no other option.  She was at ends with her mother and now she had lost her beloved father.  Life had just been moving along until the Ireland storm brought in her expected guest Grayson Thane a few days earlier.

Grayson Thane “Gray” is a big time mystery writer, who is writing his next book set in Ireland.  The moment he gets to the cottage he is overwhelmed by Brianna.  For a while Gray doesn’t do anything to intimidate but then he can’t take it anymore, he goes after her.  He seduces her to his bed.  Brianna doesn’t except his pursuit at first but finally she gives into what she had been missing all this time.  Brianna knows Gray will not stay forever but that doesn’t stop her from loving him.

Through the book Brianna will live a new life but the past is creeping up behind her as she finds that her father lived a loveless marriage and fathered another child to a woman, Amanda, that was his true love.  Maggie and Brianna are determined to find their half sibling and the woman their father loved.

Born in Shame

A happy life was all Shannon knew, now her life was turned upside down when her mother told her the truth about her father.  Colin who was her father was not her true father.  Tom Concannon from Ireland was Shannon’s true father.  Her mother, Amanda, told all that happened between herself and the two men that she loved.  Hearing the news of her mothers lies Shannon was furious with her but couldn’t really express all her anger and hurt towards her dying mother.   As Amanda closed her eyes she never woke up.  Amanda slipped into a coma and died soon afterwards.

A few days after the funeral she meet a man who was commissioned to track her down.  Her sisters wanted to meet.  At first Shannon declined and pushed the man away then a letter came from Brianna.  Shannon decided to take the journey to Ireland to find this new family but more importantly to find herself.

Shannon gets to Ireland and is overwhelmed by everything there but especially this new family.  As she meets them and finds herself living with Brianna in the inn she doesn’t know what to do.  Brianna wants to befriend her, Maggie doesn’t trust her completely and but finds a way to understand.

Shannon seemed to come to some understanding with her sisters and their mother but the thing that was confusing was the amount of attention which Murphy would pay towards her.  Murphy saw her and knew that she was the one that he had been searching for now the only thing to do was to make her understand this.  Shannon was pulled  into the journey of finding family, love and herself.

Reading these books were fun and entertaining.  They were all very charming with the characters and the plots.  There was a nice flow to the books when each girl had her chance in the story but in each one they overlapped.  You never forgot about the characters.  Each sister was unforgettable and I loved how even though they were all different there was a relationship that couldn’t be broken even for their half-sister.

Nora Roberts showed a wonderful modern day style of romance set in Ireland.
