Along Came a Rogue

Along Came a RogueMajor Nathaniel Grey is a man that does what he wants and when he wants, but when his best friend is injured he will drop everything and come to his side. Grey will be tasked to bring home Thomas’s sister, Emily, and Grey will stop at nothing until he accomplishes that task. Grey will be shocked by Emily as she was not the girl he had remembered.

Emily remembered a time when she was young and foolish, and helplessly in love with her brother’s best friend. With marriage Emily changed and had become harder especially with the accidents that kept happening around her. Emily will want to get away but Grey will make it difficult for her to leave his side.

Along Came a Rogue is the second book to the series The Secret Life of Scoundrels by Anna Harrington. I really liked this book.

Nathaniel is a womanizer but he was one you still liked because he drops everything to help a friend. I wanted Nathaniel to find that happiness and to trust another. I liked that he did drop down his guard to truly start to care. I liked how Nathaniel is persistent and does not give up. Emily’s character was a young woman who was in trouble but she was doing the best that she could in her situation. I liked that she was a fighter but that made her heart harden. Letting others in was harder for her. She will have a chance with Nathaniel but she has to let herself love again and to trust.

The person behind the accidents is pretty easy to guess but there will be a surprise regarding the person who is helping the villain.

I am reading the third book next.

Hard to Be Good

Hard to Be GoodJeremy Rixey was a fun loving guy but found himself overwhelmed with all that had been happening to his brother and his brother’s teammates. He will find that one person will give him some peace, Charlie, who had suffered his own tragedy.

Hard to Be Good is a novella in the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. First off as you can see from the cover this is a male on male suspense romance book. I will admit I was apprehensive about the book but as it was part of the series I wanted to read all of the books. There was also the fact that I really loved Jeremy’s  character from the very first book.

Well all I can say is wow. The sex scenes were intense and to be honest that was all there really was with the book, which was kind of disappointing. I wanted more with these characters, wanted more of a story not just a novella. Previously you had gotten to know the characters from the other books but I wanted more background, more of the build up with the romance. Now even with my wants of more detail I did truly like the novella and it was because of Jeremy and Charlie. I loved Jeremy who was so charismatic and bold while there was Charlie who was shy but a genius. Together they worked.

The mystery behind Nick and his men gets a little swept under the rug as the romance between Jeremy and Charlie take center stage. I have no doubt that the fourth book will bring more insight with this mystery that surrounds these men.

I am looking forward to reading the fourth book to the series.

Hard to Come By

Hard to Come ByDerek DiMarzio and his team are going after a lead which has them going after Garza. They know the best way to get to the ex-soldier is through the man’s sister, Emilie.

Emilie Garza was a therapist and good at her job but she had felt weak thanks to her ex-husband. She will feel alive again when a man, Derek, wants her. Though Emilie will soon find out that he doesn’t just want her but what information she can provide.

Hard to Come By is the third book to the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. I really liked this book. The story for me about the five soldiers is certainly moving along and looks like it will be over after two more books, unless more characters are introduced.

Derek is damaged like the rest of his team, he just had a bigger reminder with his leg missing. I liked Derek because he was a man that tried to make the best of things even in the worst of times. He will however make a mistake and lie to Emilie, which will be a problem done the line. Now Emilie is another strong woman that is in the book. Well she was fragile at times but overall a strong woman that was able to take all that was happening. I liked that there was not absolute trust after Derek screwed up as she had been burned before. If she trusted too easily it would not fit her character.

So the mystery of these soldiers betrayal starts to become clear with what had happened. They are getting more clues and a bigger break to find out what they need to know. There was a big reveal towards the end which I was not expecting but happy to read. I can’t wait to find out how that change of events will impact their investigation. I will hopefully find out something more when I read Hard to Be Good, which I will be reading next.

Hard to Hold on To

Hard to Hold on toEdward “Easy” Cantrell job was to protect Jenna Dean but wasn’t there when she truly needed him. Now he will make sure that he is there for her after her traumatic experience with the drug dealers.

Jenna Dean had survived her torture but was not sure if she would survive after the ordeal. She found herself terrified every moment. She will bond with the one who had helped rescue her that night, Easy. She will find that she is not the only one that needs to be healed.

Hard to Hold on To is a novella which is part of the series Hard Ink by Laura Kaye. This novella is number 2.5 to the series, it was a novella that was worth the read and fit right into the series. It had been a while since I read the first two books but I will say that I fell right back into the series. The novella starts right off where the second book ended. Jenna is being brought back to Hark Ink Studio, she had been hurt and drugged.

I was intrigued to read this novella because I had gotten to know her character from the previous book. I wanted to know what had happened in that room as she sounded broken, luckily she had not gotten the torture that her sister had received four years ago. Nevertheless Jenna was harmed and was traumatized over the event. She makes a bond with Easy. I liked Easy, he was quiet but there was a dangerous side and damaged. They were both in need of healing.

The mystery of what had happened to these men was still up in the air. They are retrieving some information that is helping them decipher what had happened thanks to Sara from the previous book. What happened to these men to me was not the focal point of the book, it was Jenna and Easy. I didn’t mind that as I wanted to know more about Easy and Jenna. I’m sure that more information will come in the third book, which I will be reading next.

Before the Scandal

Society loves a scandal as long as it is not about them. Colonel Phineas Bromley ran away from his scandal. But now he is back thanks to his sisters pleading letter but all is not what she wrote it to be. Phin will find his brother is not on death’s door but their land is on the road to be destroyed, and he finds a certain girl who turned into a beautiful woman.

Alyse Donnelly has lead a dreadful life since her parents death. On her own would have been a kinder fate but she has to deal with her cousin and Aunt who despises her. Alyse is lonely and is then thrilled to see Phin. Hoping for some companionship Alyse will find much more. She will be caught up in sabotage and with a man who could easily break her heart.

After trying out one of  Suzanne Enoch’s books in the series Lessons of Love I wanted to immediately pick another book of that series. But of course I ventured away from the author for a little while. Now going back I went and found Enoch’s series the Notorious Gentlemen. Before the Scandal is the second book to the series and it will immediately bring you into the story. You will not have to read the first book to understand as there are reoccurring characters but each book is it’s own separate story.

This book was really just an entertaining book to read with all the sabotage which held the book together. The character’s of the Bromley and Donnelly family were all well written and had their own dynamics which were kept separate but balanced each other very well.

Phin and Alyse work well together as each are trying to cure their loneliness. I liked the fire which Alyse had and Phin’s ability to be sneaky to save those around him.

The villains in the story were predictable but I liked how Enoch was able to unravel why they were the villains.

I can’t wait to read more of her books.

Wild child is running back home

Pepper Prescott is running away. After witnessing a murder she ditched her fake name and went back to her original. She knew there would be little left for her at her old place but she had nowhere to go. Pepper did not expect to find Dan there or that the only person she loved had died on her but Pepper was determined to make best of a situation. She would get Dan to leave so she could hide out and hope the General wouldn’t find her, but those plans would not be easy with Dan kissing her all the time.

Dan Graham was on a mission and that was to lure the bad guys so they could get them, but he didn’t expect to see Pepper. Kissing her would be out of the question but there he was as like nothing had changed. But Dan had changed. He knew he couldn’t trust her and he had to get her out of there but the temptation was driving him crazy where he just wanted to give in.

I was excited to read the second book, Almost Like Being In Love, of the series Lost Texas Heart. I wanted to know more about the wild child Pepper. I liked on the side the story of Hope was being told within the pages of the book. Dodd let the reader know how close they were to finding Pepper.

Dodd brings in the past of how the two characters, Pepper and Dan, had ended up with their own past. I liked how Pepper was in control and strong but very weak when it came to following the heart and Dan was the same way. They parralled almost exactly and it was interesting to see who would come out on top.

The villain gave a good twist as you didn’t know who would be working for who and which character would they be after. Dodd kept you in suspense as you read through the book.

As a second book to the series I was thrilled by the story and the dynamic characters. I want to read more but can’t as I read all of the series. Lost Texas Heart series is one you want to check out from Christina Dodd’s collection.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth

Rick Riordan brings back Percy to the pages with his friends in the fourth book, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth.

“Percy Jackson isn’t expecting freshman orientation to be any fun.  But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears on campus, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse.

Time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near.  Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Krono’s army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders.  To sotp the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Layrinth-a sprawling underground world with stunning surprise at every turn.”

Every time I pick up the next book by Rick Riordan I know that I will be reading an amazing story of Percy.  The scenes and characters are well rounded.  You get attached.

Percy is on the next quest with Annabeth leading the show which makes them go into the labyrinth.  The labyrinth which is a place that not many find ways out and if they do they might not be in the same shape that they went in.

I was excited that Rachel makes her second appearance in the series.  I like her there as an unusual mortal who sees more than those around.  She will be a big help when Percy and the rest will take their quest into the labyrinth.  You will see old and new friends making an appearance in the book.

Annabeth is an intriguing character as she helps Percy but she still hopes to get Luke back, which I am afraid she will find is impossible for Luke is not himself anymore.  Luke is not the half-blood that he used to be.  Kronos found the use for him and could be their downfall.

I love that Percy will also find a family.  His mom being with Paul, soon to be husband.  But also Poseidon will also make an appearance and father him the best he can.  Of course that is not always possible for the gods.

The trip to the labyrinth will be a challenge for all those who enter.

I was astonished with the fourth installment of Percy Jackson.  There was wit, humor, adventure, saddness, destruction and hope all wrapped up in this book.  Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle of The Labyrinth is just another fantastic book in this creative series.
