When Snow Falls

When Snow Falls (Whiskey Creek, #2)Cheyenne Christensen has lead a hard life and it only gets tougher as her moms, Anita, cancer is back and it looks like she will be dying very soon. Life for Chey will get a little easier as she starts to find love with the person she least expected but there will be obstacles that will get in her way.

Dylan Amos has liked and wanted Chey from afar and with one comment to her a chance with her could be possible. Dylan will find that being with her is not very easy with all that she has to handle. He is no stranger to complications as he has to deal with them in his own family.

When Snow Falls is the second book to the series Whiskey Creek by Brenda Novak. After reading this book I remembered why I love reading this author. She gets you to feel and tells a good story in the process. I am probably a little more for her suspense series, Last Stand, but I could not fault this book. It was a page turner and I can’t wait to read the next several books I have in the series.

So in my summary it doesn’t express all that is happening in this book. There is a mystery with Chey about this blonde woman she keeps dreaming of which is linked to a private investigator that is tracking down Anita. You knew what happened as Novak explained between conversations that were with Anita and Presley, Chey’s sister, and I really liked how she unfolded the story.

Chey was a strong woman but kept to herself for most of her life thanks to how her life had turned out. I liked her character right away in the book which is funny as in the novella I had read previously I didn’t get a great vibe from her or the friends as they had abandoned Olivia. Now with her own story I got to know her character which makes the difference and throughout the story she finds her voice. Now Dylan was the bad boy type but looks can be deceiving. He was a good man and had grown from his mistakes which were not as bad as most people thought. I liked Dylan and Chey together as they made sense, but there was competition for Chey. It was between Joe and Dylan and for a while I didn’t know who Chey would pick. For me I thought Dylan was more appropriate because they did make sense and anyways Joe was like a fantasy for Chey, and fantasy’s are never what they all that are cracked up too.

The villain for me was Anita and what she had done. She was not a good person or mother to either Presley or Chey. She was worst to Chey as she took her secret to the grave.

Presley’s character I just wanted to hug with all the things that have gone wrong. Sure she is the one who is doing them to herself but that doesn’t mean she can’t get a break. Although with what happened at the end with her I know that is going to cause a problem with her own book which will be the last book I have to read from the series. First I have to read Callie, Noah and Ted’s story before I reach Presley. Up next is When Summer Comes with Callie.

Breathless

BreathlessMiranda Rohan had wanted an adventure but will pick the wrong man for the task as she will have her innocence taken and her reputation ruined. Her life might have been over in society but her family stood by her. Miranda will find herself in trouble again when Lucien De Malheur sets his sights on her.

Lucien De Malheur otherwise known as the Scorpion wants revenge for his sister who killed herself thanks to the Rohan’s son. He will find revenge when he sets his sights on Miranda and will start to weave a plot that will keep her by his side forever and hurt her family all at the same time.

Breathless is the third book from the series House of Rohan from Anne Stuart. This story centers in on Adrian’s daughter Miranda. He had three other sons, Charles, Benedick and Brandon. This was once again a story that I loved. It was gripping and I could not put it down just like the other two. I think so far out of all the books this one was probably the harshest and with the most cruelty. It is a book that will draw you into to its story and keep you until the end because you hope that the characters are redeemable. That is the hopeless romantic in me and personally I was half wondering if another hero would be coming into play because Lucien was at times too cruel to be redeemable but he was still the main lead to the story. He had a need for revenge as his sister killed herself after a broken engagement. I understood the need for revenge but I wonder if there was more to the story. Now his abducting Miranda did not make him a hero but more like a villain and he does stay that way throughout most of the book. Miranda’s character had been naive in the beginning of the book with her spoiled ways but she learned that is not enough as she gets tangled up with Lucien. She does have backbone and fights this man at every turn. There will be passion but it starts out with cruelty for most of the times.

There are plenty of betrayals throughout the book especially at the end when Lucien wants his final revenge which does not go exactly the way that was intended. A happy ending does come into play for Lucien and Miranda but at the end they almost could be at odds. Though from their interaction it seemed that heated arguments was something that would be present in their lives.

There was once again another story being told with Jane and Jacob Donnelly. Their story was unlikely as she was a lady and Jacob was a thief, a rather known one but together they did find a way. I was happy they did and that she got away from her fiancee as it looked like he used his fist when angered.

I liked how Stuart keeps this series going with the offspring of the previous Rohan. It looks like Benedick will have his story next so it wouldn’t be Miranda’s child but a continuation of Adrian’s children. This is fine with me because I am interested in how Benedick’s past and what will change as he is married and already has a child and another on the way.

Against the Night

Against the NightJohnnie Riggs is on assignment when he finds a dancer he wants. Exotic dancers were never his thing but this woman pulled him in with begin confident on stage and almost shy on the floor. He will find that Amy is not all she seems to be and in way over her head.

Amy Brewer took her sisters job in hopes to find a way to locate her sister who disappeared. Amy will be out of her element when dancing and investigating but will find help with Johnnie. They will keep going with the clues they find even with danger breathing down their necks.

Against the Night is the fifth book to Kat Martin’s series Raines of Wind Canyon. I keep going with the series and with every book Martin keeps the action, romance and the adventure continuing with those tough guys you love to read about. Johnnie was no exception to the rule. He was a tough man who knew what he wanted and that included the woman Angel or really Amy. Now Amy’s character is a contradiction and really fun to read about. She has fire and naivete all in one.

Now for me I think this had a little more violence in this one but there was a good plot and good characters. There was also a good amount of sex but the action of the situation kicks up and the plot becomes intense. There are some very intense scenes that will have you biting your nails and wonder what will happen next. The scenes become gritter when it comes down to the sister, Rachel. You weren’t sure throughout the book what would happen and if she was alive. You find out half way through the book and what happened to the sister is horrific but there will be justice seen for the villain of the story. Against the Night will be next.
