Close Contact

Miles Dartman was an ex-MMA fighter and was starting new work as a bodyguard. He will be blown away when the woman who he had a couple one night stands with will be asking for his help. Miles is a little suspicious but he will quickly find out that she was telling the truth.

Maxi Nevar was never going to look up her one night stand but she had no choice as someone was after her. Maxi had received a large inheritance and a farm house since her grandmother and mother’s passing. She will quickly find that having that money will not always be a good thing.

Close Contact is the third book to the series Body Armor by Lori Foster. I liked the book. The first couple pages were very intriguing and disturbing. Maxi wakes up disorientated near her property as she had been drugged. That will be her wake up call to get help. It was an opening that pulled me into the story.

Miles character was a strong man who had been burned by a woman, but he just wanted another chance with her, especially when he sees her again. Miles will be very protective of Maxi and will be suspicious of many but mainly her family and ex boyfriend. He will stop at nothing to get to the truth. Maxi’s character was a woman who had been through a lot and needed to find herself again. It was hard when she thought someone had been after her. So the intriguing thing was Maxi’s character had received an inheritance which usually brings out people from your past, but there will be a twist that I didn’t see coming which I thought was well done.

The next book to Body Armor series is coming out in March, Fast Burn.

Death, Taxes and Sweet Potato Fries

I don’t normally check out just any book. I usually like to do some research on what the book is about and if it is part of a series. Well I guess I am looking for a change because I had gone to my library and just browsed the new fiction. The book Death, Taxes and Sweet Potato Fries immediately caught my attention. I am an accountant so I was immediately intrigued with a book with the word taxes in the title.

IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway is given a new case with the coyotes which will lead her to her ex-boyfriend’s company, who could be part of the situation. Tara will have to find the missing girls before the coyotes could get away with human trafficking and she will get some help from her team and fiance, Nick.

Death, Taxes and Sweet Potato Fries is the eleventh book to the series by Diane Kelly. I knew immediately as I started the book that it was a story already in progress but it did not stop me from enjoying the book. This was quirky and a little out there but overall enjoyable.

Tara’s character is a woman who can do what she wanted. She didn’t need to be assisted by a man but she will give in every once in awhile to the man she loves. I liked that Tara was a take charge but that can often get someone in trouble. I liked the relationship she had with Nick. It was stable and you knew that Nick would be sticking around. He also balanced Tara’s character.

I am not sure that I will read the entire series even though I found this one to be entertaining. I will look into the series and see what other cases that Tara has to solve.

Ride Rough

Maverick Rylan was on a mission to protect the woman he loved even if she didn’t want him. He saw that Alexa was in a tough situation, though she had not connected the dots yet.

Alexa Harmon had everything she wanted or at least she thought. She will start to notice changes in her fiance which will start to scare her. She will find help with her ex and his motorcycle club.

Ride Rough is the second book to the series Raven Riders by Laura Kaye. I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first book. For me it started out a little slow and the battle between this other gang really didn’t add to the story, at least I thought. It wasn’t like the Churchgang which was in Hard Ink series. I think the best part of the book was Maverick’s character.

Maverick was a man who would do anything for those who he loved. He had made a mistake five years ago and didn’t fight for Alexa, well he is making up for that time missed. I loved the interaction he had with her cat, Lucy. It was adorable. Alexa’s character was a battered woman in an abusive relationship. She was using the classic lines that it wasn’t the man’s fault. She did this too herself. Now her relationship wasn’t really about physical abuse but verbal abuse was there and Grant was very intimidating. Though it will get to physical abuse but it is more subtle than a beat down. You wanted Alexa to fight and to step away from him and to believe in herself. She will make the decision on her own but with the help of Maverick.

The third book is coming out this October which I am looking forward to reading. The book will feature Cora and Slider.

Hard Justice

Justice Wallington was a hired bodyguard and was not looking forward to protecting a spoiled rich brat. Though when Justice meets Fallon he will discover that she is anything but spoiled or a brat. He will do whatever he can to let Fallon spread her wings but keep a very close eye on her especially when someone was after her.

Fallon Wade had been sheltered after a tragedy but she was ready to stretch her wings. She would get that chance with Justice at her side but quickly there will be a threat that would put her in danger.

Hard Justice is the second book to the series Body Armor by Lori Foster. I really liked this book. I thought it was very entertaining and I felt the connection I had been missing from the first book. It might have been fast paced but I was drawn in right away. I finished it easily in a few hours.

Justice’s character was intimidating to those around him but he was a softy especially when it came to Fallon. He was kind and sweet to her but if anyone looked at her wrongly (namely a guy) he would give them a glare that would send the men running. Justice was sort of adorable in the book. Every woman should have a Justice in their lives. Fallon’s character was quiet but she wanted a chance to live her life. She wanted to experience everything she had been hidden away from. I liked Fallon. At first she almost seemed childlike but that was not the case. She was mischievous and wanted to do more with her life.

The conflict was intriguing. First off something had happened to Fallon to make her family very protective. So right away I was trying to guess but my guesses was not correct. Then there were incidents that were happening around Justice and Fallon. Someone was out to get them which was the main mystery to this novel. The mystery was different but it definitely kept me invested in the story.

Close Contact is the third novel which is coming out in December 2017.

Connecting Rooms

connecting roomsAmy Comfort moved to the small town after a horrific incident in Seattle. She was looking for a quiet life so she could sell houses and write her romance novel. Then when her aunt becomes engaged and Amy is worried about the fiance. She will ask Owen to investigate him which will bring them a lot closer.

Owen Sweet wanted Amy from the moment he saw her. Owen will take the subtle approach when it comes to Amy but then things will get complicated when she needs his help as a private investigator. He will take the job and hope to get closer to Amy.

Connecting Rooms is a novel by Jayne Ann Krentz. I have read many books from Krentz and have liked them all, some more than others but they have all been enjoyable. It feels like its been a while since I picked up a book from Krentz and I will say it was fun coming back to the author. I thought this book was enjoyable and one that went very quick.

Amy’s character was a woman who was healing after a tragic event and moving on in her life. I thought she was funny with her imagination which came from her being a writer. Owen’s character was a private investigator and he really was a good guy but he wasn’t being assertiveness enough. That will change when he will show Amy that he does want her. The chemistry between the characters is subtle until Owen steps it up a notch and really shows Amy he wants her. I liked them together.

The mystery was good because I was thought I had the perfect suspect, but I was wrong. It is sometimes the most logical choice.

I don’t know what my next book from Jayne Ann Krentz will be but I will be on the lookout for one.

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes

Twenty-Eight and a Half WishesRose Gardner worked at the DMV in her hometown which found her an odd ball. It was not the way that she dressed but because she had visions. One morning at the DMV Rose will see a man and suddenly a vision will come to her which will show her death. Rose will be frantic especially when her world starts to spin apart with several murders and secrets being uncovered.

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes is the first book to the series Rose Gardner Mystery by Denise Grover Swank. I liked this book. It was a free book on amazon. I had to get it since I had really loved the Wedding Pact series. This book was strange but with how Denise Grover Swank writes you are drawn in. Granted there was a couple situations that were very predictable but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book.

Rose’s character was considered odd because she had visions. I liked that about Rose because that made her different, unique. I liked Rose also because she was naive and sheltered which meant she was eager to experience life. She went for it when creating the list. What I didn’t always like was that she was too naive especially when it came to her new neighbor Joe. She does get smart and starts to ask questions but she is not that assertive when it comes to walking away.

There was some secrets that are uncovered which explain a lot of the animosity that was between Rose and her mother. One character that drove me crazy was Joe. He was a predictable character and one that made me what to slap him. He was a good guy, then a annoying guy, and finally kind of villain like towards Rose. I looked ahead in the series and Joe sounds like he is going to be disappointing.

So I am torn. I want to read more but I don’t always like series that is written around one character. I am also not a lover of love triangles that are more than three books. The love triangle gets boring and I just want the character to make a decision, which is why I like them in romances because when the book ends its usually finished. At least this series is done. Of course that didn’t stop the author from continuing with Rose, just in another series. I will see if I’ll continue on in the series.

A Change of Heart

a-change-of-heartDr. Nikhil “Nic” Joshi had everything he ever wanted with his marriage and career but then it all stops. He will lose the woman he loves through a tragedy. His wife will have stumbled on a black market organ transplant ring and will die trying to expose it. After two years Nic was still grieving but then Jess Koirala comes into his life.

A Change of Heart is a novel by Sonali Dev. So I have really liked reading the other two novels from Sonali Dev and I was looking forward to reading another story by her. Then I heard it was about Nic and Jen, but Jen was dead. I was hesitant to read this but I tried anyways and when I finished I have to say I was disappointed. This novel is very different than what I had expected from Sonali Dev. Now I don’t want all the books from an author to be the same, that would be very boring and too predictable, but with how this story was written I just wasn’t into the plot and I couldn’t connect with the characters.

If she writes another story I will certainly try it as I liked two out or three of her books.
