Melissa Oxford is a widow and a rancher, with a ten year old daughter. She gets by and is trying to make a profit with her farm. Melissa does not like to ask for help but she will get it with her neighbor and friend Cary. He was strictly in the friend zone but when he kisses her, everything changes.
Cary Nakamura has loved Melissa from afar. He has been patient and helping out when he could but he knew that he had to make his move. He wanted to have Melissa in his life as more than a friend.
Grit is the third book to the series 7th and Main by Elizabeth Hunter. Since reading Ink and Hooked I have been anticipating Cary and Melissa’s story. I am absolutely in love with this friends to lovers book. Everything about this book was charming, sweet and steamy. If you have not tried Elizabeth Hunter’s series 7th and Main check it out.
Melissa is a hard working woman who does not take handouts from nobody. She is stubborn and prideful but a good person. She makes sure that her daughter is provided for, even though her in-laws keep trying to make it seem that she could be doing more, that they could be giving more if she lived with them. Melissa was not going to do that. I was happy that she was fighting them, she should not be under their thumbs, but I was frustrated with Melissa since she kept Cary out. She does let Cary help some but only a little at a time, though it did make sense because of Melissa’s fear when it comes to relationships. She does not want to be alone again. Cary was amazing. He is a man who knows what he wants but is patient and gentle, and playful when he needs to be. It was also so sweet that he never gave up on Melissa, he kept going because he knew that she was worth it.
Abby, Melissa’s daughter, was too precious for words. She is ten years old and has a head for business and a love of goats. Her obsession with goats was pretty darn cute. There was one part that Abby had that was a major part in and it made me cheer for the little girl. She was brave to say the words that were needed, which also let some of the healing begin.
I hope that the series continues but will have to wait and see. If it doesn’t this was a great finish to the series. If the series does continue I would like to see Adrian, who is the lawyer in the story, to be the next main character in the book.
Clay Price has everything he could ever want but what kept him up at nights was the girl who betrayed him seven years ago. He made a plan to get Natalie Weston back and finally into his bed.
Natalie Weston has stopped living her life seven years ago when the love of her life walked away from her. Now he is back and Natalie will be shocked by what he is proposing.
Dirty Scoundrel is the second book to Jessica Clare’s series Roughneck Billionaires. I wondered about this story after I had read the summary. I did not want to read about Clay tricking Natalie into something that would end up hurting both of them. Luckily that was not the case, it started out like that but it turned into more when you got to know Clay’s character. I really enjoyed this story. Clay, like his brother Boone, is crude but there really is a sensitive side to him which comes out when he is around Natalie. She is the only girl he has ever loved. Natalie’s character is a woman who has been working herself to the bone and she keeps giving more. I liked that Natalie did not fall at Clay’s feet when he came back into her life with his ridicules contract.
The father was frustrating. He was a big deal back in Hollywood but now with his dementia he would forget many things and then go back into the past. It wasn’t like he was using his daughter but he did manipulate when he was having a good day. The father got what he wanted in the end which was good for Natalie as he was taken care of in the end.
Summer Michelle’s dream is to become a singer and she is getting a big break. It is down to two singers who will be the opening act for a big pop star, but then threats start to happen. Summer will be told that she will be given a bodyguard and it is none other than her old bodyguard, the man that she had an affair with four years ago. She hopes that they can get a second chance but will have to get Ben’s trust again.
Ben Hollander had been fired from his last job because he had been caught having an affair with a contestant. Now four years later he will be guarding her once again but he will not let it get physical. He doesn’t want to be like his father, though Ben will have to fight hard to resist as Summer will pursue him.
Rock Me is the first book to the series Bodyguard Bad Boys by Carly Phillips. Carly Phillips is an author I can rely on to write a fun and quick novel that has elements of love/lust and some danger in them. This was a great first book to the series. I have a definite soft spot for bodyguard books.
I was apprehensive because I thought Summer was going to be a diva and was the one to turn in Ben but quickly found out that was wrong. Summer was a young woman who just wanted to be a singer. She fell for Ben but things got in their way. I liked that they got a second chance to try again. Ben was definitely guarded but when you find out about his past it was understandable. I thought Ben should have put up a little more of a fight to resist Summer but he didn’t.
The threat was interesting because I had guessed right away the person but then I wasn’t sure as Carly Phillips wasn’t giving away too many hints.
Worth Fighting For is a novella from the series Warrior Fight Club by Laura Kaye. I have only read one of the book from the series but liked it. This book focuses on Tara and Jesse.
Tara is a commercial diving instructor who had nearly lost everything when she was in the Navy. After her accident she was honorably discharged. She survived with the help of the Warrior Fight Club but she is still not over everything. Then she will meet Jesse who will be a one night stand but will turn out to be much more.
Jesse was a Navy deep sea diver and was drifting through life. He believed that he always let everyone down which led him to be without attachments. Then he will meet Tara. He wants more but knows that he is not ready until he gets his head on straight.
I liked this book as it was all about second chances for Tara and Jesse. Since this was a novella it was on the short side which I didn’t really feel an issue until the end. I loved how the ending happened but it would’ve been better with some more detail. More detail would have the book a little longer which would not have hurt the story.
Laura Kaye writes her characters to have grit and who have tragic pasts that have shaped them to be the people they are now, which makes the story more interesting especially with it being a novella. I thought she did a really good job on showing her characters having PSTD which is common for those men and women in the military service.
Worth Fighting For was a solid story in the series.
Kady Kasper is the local weather girl for her small town and has loved Tucker for as long as she can remember. She could not get through to him that he was the man for her. It will take a dangerous storm for Kady to get Tucker to realize what they could become.
Tucker Turley has wanted Kady but was conflicted. He didn’t know if she wanted him because she was always flirting with everyone else. He will soon realize that all her flirting was saved just for him.
Tucker is a novella that is part of the Buckhorn Brothers, its number 9.5 in the series by Lori Foster. I always look forward to reading more from Lori Foster’s Buckhorn series but this one was okay. It wasn’t up to the same level as the original books in the series. I want the series to continue with the offspring but this one needed a little more substance to the story and it felt too rushed even for a novella. I hope that the next one gives a little more to the story.
Ian and Riley are back in this quick short story! A Very Dare Christmas is a novella, number 6.5, in the series Dare to Love by Carly Phillips.
Its Christmas time and Riley is feeling overwhelmed with everything she has to do and her husband sees her exhaustion. Ian will do what any good husband would do, he will whisk his wife away for a romantic getaway to reconnect.
I really loved reading this story because it gave an insight into Ian and Riley’s lives which seemed realistic. The romance was leaving because all their attention was on their children. Getting back the romance was easy for them and very steamy. Though after reading this short story I found myself annoyed because it was like a teaser to the series. I want Carly Phillips to finish the series. I believe there are only three more siblings to write about and I just want them to be written so I know what is going on. I also hope that there is some actual justice when it comes to their cheating father.
I am looking forward to reading more from the series. Please Carly Phillips finish these novels!
Connor Prescott wanted more when it came to relationships but he seemed to be unable to forget the one who had gotten away. He had been with her almost three years ago and only knew her first name. Then by chance he will get a call from her three years later and she will give him unexpected news.
Rock Solid is the fourth book to the series Book Boyfriend by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde. I liked this novel. Like the others it was fun, fast and steamy but I will say that out of all the books I would have to rank this one my least favorite. I suppose I just wasn’t pulled into the story as much but again it was well written and I was happy with the ending.
Connor for me was lovable like all the other guys, he was someone you wanted in your corner and he was sweet. The mystery woman, Katie, was heartbroken when she met Connor. She just wanted a one night stand. I did like that this was not a story of her holding on to a secret because she did not trust him. She was holding on to her secret because she honestly could not find Connor.
Overall this Book Boyfriend series was worth reading.
