Jennifer Ashley is back with the Mackenzies & McBrides series. A Rogue Meets a Scandalous Lady is the eleventh book to the series.
David Fleming is Hart Mackenzie’s right hand man. He was the one that got things done and did it in his own fashion. David was also always one for drinking but when he comes to his old tutors place plastered he will soon see a woman that will have him changing his ways. He wants to protect Sophie but also knows that he could never be with her.
Sophie, Lady Davenport was hiding at her Uncle’s place since her scandal was every where in London. She thought she would be alone with her Uncle but then David Fleming comes to their home. Sophie will be weary at first but as she spends time with David she will find that he hides the true man beneath the cynical words.
I love going back to this series. It has been one of my favorites. This book was really good. I enjoyed David getting his own story. At times I was annoyed with David in the past books because he was a threat between Eleanor and Hart, although that really would never happen. David was always and forever just a friend for Eleanor. I liked hearing more of David’s thoughts, he was thought to be very cynical man but he was much more and that made me like his character all the more. Now Sophie’s character was a vulnerable woman whose name was being dragged through the mud. I liked that she had backbone but she was also stuck and could not pull herself out of the scandal that was attached to her name. David and Sophie will help each other in their own ways and it is a sweet romance that builds between the two of them.
I had expected more of a retaliation from one character. A part of me wanted more with that conflict because it felt like the ending was rushed but the other part of me was happy to see how the author ended the story.
There is a novella that will be coming out which I know I will read. Can’t get enough of these Mackenzies.
Tristan Sinclair, Viscount St. Ashton lived in a world of debauchery and wealth but then it all goes away. The life that he loved just did not feel right. He will visit a notorious house party and expecting to enjoy a month of drinking but then he meets Valentine March.
Valentine March is a companion and someone who is unnoticeable but she will be noticed by a notorious rake, Tristan. He will soon learn that she is not the drab little spinster she appears to be. Valentine will be tempted by Tristan, she will know that he is not for her but with one scandal her life will get turned upside down.
The Viscount and the Vicar’s Daughter by Mimi Matthews is the first book that I have tried from the author. I found this book to be enjoyable and refreshing. There is nothing new to this story line to make it original but the fact that I have not been reading a ton of romances could be the reason. This book was lighthearted and intriguing with Tristan and Valentine. I was cheering for Tristan to get his act together and to be ready to be with Valentine. I wanted him to be the man that was hidden behind all the debauchery. Then there was Valentine who was trying to get answers about her past. I found her story interesting and enjoyed the mystery of her life.
Based on this book I will be back to read more from Mimi Matthews.
I am continuing the series, Roughneck Billionaires, and reading the third book Dirty Bastard by Jessica Clare, which was enjoyable.
Lexi is a struggling yoga instructor who doesn’t really like people and is very strange but likes it that way. When she meets Knox and his family she will be intrigued immediately by Knox. He alone was strange like her and she wanted to get to know him but was not sure she could let him in all the way into her life.
Knox is a billionaire along with his brothers. He is not the serious brother or the nice one. In a word he is cynical. He likes his pranks which is why he is instantly intrigued by Lexie. She is beyond sarcastic and he loves her strange behavior. She will be the first woman he actually wanted more, he just had to convince her of that.
In the second book you got to read little parts with Lexi and Knox but with their own book you really got to know the characters and they are both a piece of work. So Lexi is super sarcastic and that was shown in the second book but it is intense in the beginning of the book. At first it was a little much but I really came to love Lexi’s character and her sarcastic ways because she was more than that. Knox was a piece of work. He loved his brothers and he loved to torment them. He would steal and play pranks which was very juvenile but really worked out because it brought him closer to Lexi who was juvenile in her own ways.
The added twist with the stalker ex was interesting and it gave a little more danger in the mix.
I am waiting patiently for Gage’s story which I hope will be out soon!
Clay Price has everything he could ever want but what kept him up at nights was the girl who betrayed him seven years ago. He made a plan to get Natalie Weston back and finally into his bed.
Natalie Weston has stopped living her life seven years ago when the love of her life walked away from her. Now he is back and Natalie will be shocked by what he is proposing.
Dirty Scoundrel is the second book to Jessica Clare’s series Roughneck Billionaires. I wondered about this story after I had read the summary. I did not want to read about Clay tricking Natalie into something that would end up hurting both of them. Luckily that was not the case, it started out like that but it turned into more when you got to know Clay’s character. I really enjoyed this story. Clay, like his brother Boone, is crude but there really is a sensitive side to him which comes out when he is around Natalie. She is the only girl he has ever loved. Natalie’s character is a woman who has been working herself to the bone and she keeps giving more. I liked that Natalie did not fall at Clay’s feet when he came back into her life with his ridicules contract.
The father was frustrating. He was a big deal back in Hollywood but now with his dementia he would forget many things and then go back into the past. It wasn’t like he was using his daughter but he did manipulate when he was having a good day. The father got what he wanted in the end which was good for Natalie as he was taken care of in the end.
This was a great addition to the series.
Bran Berry has been after Sahara Silver since he first meet her but all she wanted was for him to join her bodyguards. Though Bran can tell she wants more, but business comes first. Then Sahara will be taken and it will be up to Bran and the other bodyguards to find Sahara.
Fast Burn is the fourth book to the series Body Armor by Lori Foster. I enjoyed going back to this series and this was a very good book. Although, there was one line that had me laughing. It was from the movie Taken. The one line that he is saying to his daughter in the second movie, “I am going to be taken”. That had me laughing out loud because it was too familiar.
I liked Bran but there were times when you wanted to punch him. He was a little controlling with the relationship but I could forgive him because he was a good guy. He wanted to do protect Sahara, he just had to admit that she was strong on her own and he does, it just takes some time. Sahara was a strong woman who knew how to kick butt, though she was a little out of her league with kidnappers. Although, she did not make it easier for those kidnappers.
There were some twists within the book that was interesting. I kind of wish there was a little more detail with the outcome but it was still good.
Summer Michelle’s dream is to become a singer and she is getting a big break. It is down to two singers who will be the opening act for a big pop star, but then threats start to happen. Summer will be told that she will be given a bodyguard and it is none other than her old bodyguard, the man that she had an affair with four years ago. She hopes that they can get a second chance but will have to get Ben’s trust again.
Ben Hollander had been fired from his last job because he had been caught having an affair with a contestant. Now four years later he will be guarding her once again but he will not let it get physical. He doesn’t want to be like his father, though Ben will have to fight hard to resist as Summer will pursue him.
Rock Me is the first book to the series Bodyguard Bad Boys by Carly Phillips. Carly Phillips is an author I can rely on to write a fun and quick novel that has elements of love/lust and some danger in them. This was a great first book to the series. I have a definite soft spot for bodyguard books.
I was apprehensive because I thought Summer was going to be a diva and was the one to turn in Ben but quickly found out that was wrong. Summer was a young woman who just wanted to be a singer. She fell for Ben but things got in their way. I liked that they got a second chance to try again. Ben was definitely guarded but when you find out about his past it was understandable. I thought Ben should have put up a little more of a fight to resist Summer but he didn’t.
The threat was interesting because I had guessed right away the person but then I wasn’t sure as Carly Phillips wasn’t giving away too many hints.
Will Mackenzie usually works alone but then Josette will come to him with a request to help her group find a trove of gold. He will team up with Josette to help find the gold that is lost somewhere in the highlands, which will help Highland women who lost a lot in the war. Will trusts Josette, they had worked together as man and wife and she was the woman he loved.
The Devilish Lord Will is the tenth book from the series Mackenzies & McBrides by Jennifer Ashley. I have followed this series from the beginning and have loved most of the books. Anything with Ian has always been fantastic to read. This book was good but by no means was it my favorite.
I think it was a good story but I found it a little boring at times. It didn’t drive me to read and want to know more. I am not always a big spy reader but it wasn’t even that. Maybe there wasn’t enough to really draw me into that story. Although, it was still good just took me longer to finish. I did enjoy the characters of Will and Josette. I liked that they had been a team beforehand which of course turned to lovers. I enjoyed their teamwork and I think Jennifer Ashley wrote them well. There was sweet interactions between them that showed Will truly loved Josette and her daughter.
Of course when the next book to the series comes out I will read it right away because I really can’t get enough of this series.
